Good luck, Liz. good.gif

If you decide to take Flames' advice about the, err, reading material, you might want to bring some innocuous magazine to put in front of it.

CanadaDo most USC attend Consulate interviews with their fiances/spouses?

Mine came with me for support.. but he didn't have to of course. just didn't want me facing "the Americans" alone smile.gif good.gif

Hehehe.

Not required. I'm planning to go. My parents live just across the border from Vancouver, so I will get to visit with them too, and maybe go to Vancouver Island (something I've not yet done) with my fiance to celebrate. Quite a few of the USC partners have not gone because it was a choice between taking time off to go to the interview and taking time off to help their other half move.

I am a terrible shopper. I just make a terrible bride.

Yeah, me too. I'm glad I'm not the only one! To be honest, my dream wedding would be going through a drive-up wedding window in Vegas in a rented '57 chevy convertible, but once we started saying yes to people who wanted to be there, we sort of have to have a reception my dad can attend (he is not able to travel). So instead we are doing a tiny, brief, bare-bones ceremony in my living room as soon as my fiance gets here followed a few months later by a fairly simple reception in Bellingham, where my parents live.

At this point I am planning to wear my mother's wedding veil primarily for sentimental reasons. So I am kind of figuring out what to do for the dress. I don't necessarily even want a wedding gown, per se, but I want something that won't look stupid with the veil. I actually had a nice dress in mind that I own---it is pink with white lace accent---but, err, well, it no longer fits over my butt! I might get my friend's fiance's stepmom (who is a tailor) to make me a knockoff of a ridiculously expensive Martin McCrea wedding dress I like (it is this one, only as a tea-length dress, maybe in white or maybe not) or maybe get a bridesmaid or other semi-formal dress and put a ribbon around the edge of the veil to match the color of the dress. I change my mind on what I want about every 5 minutes.

As for photography, for the ceremony I am going to have my coworker (who will also be one of our witnesses) take pictures, and I am going to have another of my friends take pictures at the reception. My secretary's sister-in-law is an AMAZING photographer, so we may also have her just do a portrait of us, which is the only thing we would pay for. I'm the photographer in our family, too, and I don't want to be taking the pictures at my wedding but I can handle putting together a nice wedding album. My jaw dropped when I saw how expensive wedding photographers are.

Sprailenes, whatever you do, you will be a beautiful bride.

I don't think I would be very patient under the circumstances. Sheesh!

The problem you would most likely encounter getting treatment in the US is that insurance companies refuse to cover "preexisting conditions". But you do have up to six months to make the move, and if necessary your wedding plans can be postponed without too much difficulty, no matter how badly that would suck.

And it may well be nothing serious!

I really hope you find out it is nothing to worry about, and I really hope you find that out soon so you don't need to worry anymore!

As far as the interview--no idea. It probably isn't a bad idea to be prepared with whatever you get from your own doctor just in case. Maybe someone a lot further along in this process can say something about that.

Most importantly, though, I hope everything is okay! If it helps any, I know of two people who had spots show up on x-rays turn out to be nothing, just "echos".

if you cant smile try to put a real stupid song in your head that makes you smile

I'd probably think of a song that makes me laugh like an idiot. I just saw on another message board something about a British (I assume) radio show called "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" putting the lyrics of the song "Macho man" to the tune of the Marseillaise. And now I'm probably going to think about that if/when we go for our interview.

Anyway, it looks like I saw this thread a bit late to wish you luck, so I will just say congratulations instead.

that can be a problem... I lived about 20 minutes or so from the border and I could never recall all the day trips i made to the US laughing.gif

Same here. But he is from Edmonton, so maybe he would be able to do what Liz suggested. I think at the very least he might need to say it is not an exhaustive list, though. I think he went to Montana pretty regularly, even if it wasn't as much as those of us who really are from border towns.
SonoranSongbirdFemaleCanada2007-11-09 17:11:00
CanadaDS 230 (question 25)
Ta, thanks. That makes sense. He can probably give the dates of any in the past few years because he has the stamps in his passport, and he can at least give the year for two or three long road trips he made long ago.

They also ask for every address he has had since the age of 16. He may actually be able to answer that one easily, but I would sure have a hard time with it. I'm actually curious enough to try to list every address I've had since I was 16 now.....
SonoranSongbirdFemaleCanada2007-11-09 16:43:00
CanadaDS 230 (question 25)
I seriously doubt my fiance can possibly remember every visit he has ever made to the US, which I'm assuming is pretty common for Canadians (I could never begin to list every visit I made to Canada--granted, I grew up in a border town and he did not, but I know he has been here probably hundreds of times). Do they really expect him to be able to list every visit he has ever made to the US in 50 years?

Yes, it is going to be a loooooooong time before we need to fill this out, but I am looking ahead at what we will need because there just isn't anything else I can do at the moment. I got tired of looking at wedding planning stuff.
SonoranSongbirdFemaleCanada2007-11-09 16:16:00
Canadatime it's taking at the NVC
Last time I looked at the processing times (I've stopped because it is just too depressing), the total time from NOA2 to NVC receives to NVC sends to consulate to consulate receives was around 38 days. I don't know if it has sped up since then. I hope so!

Happy weddings to PFCsBaby, Jeremy and Kristy, Liz and Ol, Amanda and Doug, and anyone else getting married this week and happy US Thanksgiving to anyone gorging themselves next Thursday. I will be meeting my fiance at SeaTac and then taking him to meet my crazy family in Bellingham. This song by Garrison Keillor pretty much sums up the usual holiday experience at the Sonoran Family Estate --- http://prairiehome.p...6_1123JOHNB.htm ---- and it is going to rain the entire week we are there. Hmm, well, I guess he may as well see what he is getting himself into up front. Safe travels to whoever else will be travelling.

CanadaOff topic - Wedding officiant is a jerk - must vent
Ugh, we are going to have to find an officiant where my parents live and the ALL say the same thing on their websites (more or less "Your big day is important to me and I will incorporate your wishes into your vows" and so on). I'm stressing about this a bit. Have no idea how to even go about it.

How many guests is too many to bring along to just get married at the county court house?

I had a dream last night that I got a denial on my AOS because on half of the paper work I put the name: "Smith" and the other half I put his actual last name. My husband kept asking me: "Where did you get the name Smith?"

It was either that or Barbara Eden. laughing.gif

laughing.gif

I've had dreams about this too! In the one I can remember, I was comparing engagement rings with my friend's daughter (she is engaged too) and we started talking about wedding dates and I told her I had to wait for the "freaking expletive deleted immigration process" to be over. My friend was really upset that I'd said "freaking" in front of her younger daughter. The younger daughter is 17 and that really would be out of character for my friend to do. She told me I was not welcome in their house because of it!

For the first few nights of our honeymoon, we are probably going to stay at this B&B in Blaine that we just went to and loved; it is literally right ON the Canadian border, so I'm sure one or both of us will have the one about him accidentally crossing the border and not being able to come back before he gets his AP.

Hahaha, I forgot aboutTHAT Tiffany! I think I repressed the memory because it was so traumatic! Ah well, see, remembering is the first step to recovering. This is better than a 12-step program.

I remember the first time I met my fiance. Only I did not expect him to be the man I would spend the rest of my life with at the time. In fact, I did not expect to see him again even! He was just a really charming and funny "real life" friend of one of my internet friends. It took us another three and a half years to fall in love!

CanadaEngagement Ring
A receipt for your engagement ring can be used as proof of an on-going relationship, but it is not necessary. It is not even necessary to have an engagement ring at all. From what I have seen in posts from people who were denied or required to supply additional evidence at the consulate stage, I think that what they are really looking for in terms of "proof of ongoing relationship" is proof that you communicate with each other on a day-to-day basis between visits (not necessarily every day, but regularly) and that you know each other. As Laura said, the ring doesn't really prove anything because anyone intending to get married for whatever reason can get a ring (heck, I've even heard of women who have bought themselves rings to avoid being hit on by random men while travelling solo!). But they do list it as possible evidence of on-going relationship.

Jomo's Girl, that has to be one of the sweetest things I've ever read---"our spot." Awww!
