Hahaha, sounds like a good doctor! I would like to be told to eat more chocolate next time I go to the doctor.

Congratulations on your package being sent, eli!

I wonder if Tars has heard anything yet.

Jolies, I'm not sure what the deal is with the Nebraska and Texas service centers anymore. Before July 30, some people (depending where you lived) were still supposed to send them there, even though all they did with the petitions is send them to California to be processed. Ours would have gone to Nebraska had we filed then. I don't understand why those two centers would still exist now that they are not even doing that much, but I would also think that if it were closed down completely, the package would have been returned to your fiance. Applewow is right--sending it there probably added on some time, plus sometimes they are just plain pokey about getting around to opening the packages up and sending out the NOA1 notice.

One thing your fiancee can do to check its status is to check with her bank to see if the check has cleared. Once it does, there will be a number at the bottom of the endorsement on the back of the check. It will begin with three letters---ours was WAC, but there are two other three-letter combinations and I don't remember what they are since ours was at this point in October. That is your USCIS receipt number. You can use that to check the status of your case on line. Go here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis and click on "Yes, my petition is pending" (from the menu at the top right corner of the screen). I can't remember the exact prompts from there, but it is actually pretty self-explanatory and user friendly (I'm not the most technologically adept person in the world and I found the USCIS site very easy to navagate). It will take you to a screen where you can enter that receipt number and check the status of the petition on line.

Obviously, this does not work before they have entered you into the system, but they can generate the NOA1 and deposit the check long before you get your NOA1 in the mail. It took 10 days for mine to physically reach my house from California.

Unfortunately, the secret is to own a house in Alberta or Saskatchewan. Here it's through the floor also.

Not to sound wildly paranoid, but if you are at least 125% above poverty level, I'd really recommend NOT supplying any information or evidence of bank accounts and such. It's best to avoid putting out your account numbers if you don't absolutely have to. Plus it makes it easier if you don't bother with it. Just put N/A in those spaces.

Roselinda, I think VJ really only recommends having a photocopy of the entire I 129F package for each person so you each have a backup of it just in case. I don't see any reason to bring that to the interview, since they will already have it. What they MIGHT ask to see is originals of anything that was included in it---birth certificate, divorce decree, boarding passes, etc. Same goes for the I-134, so he should probably send you originals of the pay stubs (to show if asked and hold onto) and photocopies (to submit). Two notorized copies of the form and two employer letters on letterhead are also a good idea.

Congrats to Stuart and Ryan on being one step closer!!

Applewow, have a nice flight back and good luck with your interview!

We are also one step closer---my fiance sold his house only three days after he put it on the market. So assuming all goes well with the visa, we will begin our lives together in July!

Applewow, good luck! Lucians is right---you will do fine. good.gif

Halle, it varies by consulate. The bottom of the checklist he has to fax back to Vancouver asks for requested interview date. Whether they will really accomodate our request remains to be seen, although I've heard that they are pretty good about being willing to reschedule an interview if you need it.

Lucian's Girl, congratulations! (Hehe, it seems silly to say contgratulations for having a package delivered, but it means you are one step closer....)

Yes, good luck, Halle! Remember--you have 6 months to activate the visa, so you don't HAVE TO move any sooner than you had originally planned if it will be too stressful to arrange everything. Also--have you looked into take the kitties with you on the plane? Some airlines allow you to bring pets in carry on carriers if they fit under the seat.

My fiance got packet 3 in the mail on March 26, same as Meridien, and his medical appointment in Calgary is booked for April 10. He hasn't faxed back packet 3 yet, but we are going to request an interview date in the second half of May. We're trying to schedule a vacation on Vancouver Island and a visit to my parents (who live in a border town near Vancouver) around it, so we want to have more advance notice than we will get if we just ask for the soonest available date, plus that will give us a better chance of having nice weather in Raincouver!!
SonoranSongbirdFemaleCanada2008-03-28 12:04:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober and November filers-NOA2 to NVC
Heh--we have a friend who lived for two years on Grand Cayman Island (we became a couple while visiting her there) and she always complained about how slowly things moved down there. I haven't heard that phrase "island time" since she got back to Canada.

It's too bad they don't send it via email like Applewow's consulate. I don't even know why Vancouver doesn't do that---the forms are not included in the package he got; they want us to fill them out on line in Adobe Acrobat anyway. He just got a letter, the checklist, a list of doctors, and instructions for the medical. There is only one form in the package---the OF-167---that is not available on line (I just have to sign it). That could easily be included as a pdf attachment in an email.

Oh well, at this point I can hardly complain. We're planning a vacation on Vancouver Island after our interview, and the later in spring it is, the more likely we will be to see the sun for at least a few days of our vacation, so we are really not in a huge hurry at this point.

Ryan, congratulations! And yes, trust me, she DOES want to know immediately!! Haha, I check my email and home answering machine for a message from my fiance letting me know he got packet 3.

Applewow, that sounds like it IS your packet 3. Probably one of those will give you instructions---maybe they want you to send one of the forms back (like the DS-230) or maybe they just want you to bring all of it to the interview. Since they gave you an interview date, I'd guess it's that, but check.

I wish Vancouver emailed us packet 3. We'd probably already have it by now.
SonoranSongbirdFemaleCanada2008-03-26 15:09:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober and November filers-NOA2 to NVC
It varies by consulate. Vancouver asks you to fax back to them the first part of DS-230 as well as the checklist they send. Everything else you bring with you to the interview. This is different from what Halle posted about London, except that they too want the part I of DS-230 asap. There should be instructions in packet 3 telling you exactly what needs to be sent to the consulate (and how--fax or mail) and what needs to be brought to the interview.

As for the best way to contact your consulate, check the embassy info or embassy reviews section or ask on the regional forum. You might be able to find scanned copies of the packet 3 checklists there--this is how I know what is going to be in our packet 3.

How does this whole NVC thing work? Do I need to call them? We got our NOA2 last Friday.

Congratulations on the NOA2!

You can call them at 603-334-0700. They will need your receipt number from USCIS and at least your fiance's name and birthdate (I think they may ask for both). It usually takes at least a week from California, but Vermont may be faster. It's easiest to get through after 10 pm Eastern Time. Most people have said they were polite, even if their petition wasn't there yet, but a few have been having some problems. Unfortunately, there is no way to check it online or using an automated phone system.

You can also just wait for the letter. They will send you a letter letting you know they have finished with your petition and sent it on to the consulate. That should give you both their case number and the address of the consulate. Once your petition gets to NVC, they are very quick with it. Anywhere from two days to a week from the timelines I've seen.

I think I'd try emailing the consulate either way, Lucian's Girl. Just in case NVC does not make the correction!

Meridien, my fiance scarily enough is able to remember every trip he took to the US. I can't remember where I put my car keys 5 minutes ago but he can remember which weekend he drove to Great Falls, Montana, in 1976. I grew up along the border. Even if I could remember every trip I ever took to Canada, I'd have to kill off a few old growth forests to print out a complete list of them.

Ugh, the second link I posted won't work. It will take you to the "track by number" screen instead for some bizarre reason. But go ahead and try the "track by reference" option. It should work.

Applewow, I tried DHL, and there is one that arrived at the DHL facility in Tashkent today.

http://track.dhl-usa...p?nav=TrackRslt

It is on page 2, if that link doesn't take you there directly.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober and November filers-NOA2 to NVC
Applewow, go to DHL's website, click on "track by reference" (if you put the cursor over "track", you will get a menu with "track by reference" as a choice). Then try putting in EXP 13 MAR 2008A. If you don't see a package that went from Portsmouth, NH, to Tashkent, try it again with dates before or after. This only tells you if they sent ANY petition to Tashkent around the time they should have sent yours, though; it does not tell you which package is yours. If there aren't that many that have been sent, you can kind of estimate though. Looking at the volume of packages shipped each day, I don't think they sit around very long at NVC waiting to be shipped.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober and November filers-NOA2 to NVC
There aren't really any instructions on the hard copy of the NOA2. All it tells you that isn't in the email version is that you will get a notice from NVC when they've finished. Well, it does tell you to call NVC if you don't get that letter within a month and give the number. They are also usually not rude, so I think you will have better luck the next time you call. The only information you need to give them is the beneficiary's name and birthdate and the receipt number you got from CSC (which IS on the email NOA2). You might need to give both names and birth dates, I can't remember.

I would try again in a few days (it isn't going to be there this soon from California--it will take closer to a week) and just say you wanted to see if they'd received your petition. You can ask them for their case number and when they got it too. Most of them are pretty polite. I think only one other person said they seemed a little tiffed that he called before it was there.

Good luck and congrats on the NOA2!

Okay, I am pretty sure ours is at the consulate now. I got the letter from NVC today. It was dated Monday and said they would send it to Vancouver "sometime in the next week." I just did the DHL tracking thing, and there was one that went the 11th and got there the 13th and another that went the 12th and got there today. I'm pretty sure one of them was ours. Looking at the volume of packages shipped (over 50 each day!) I don't think they sit there waiting to be shipped for very long, plus the postmark on my letter was March 11, so it probably was that one.

They had no problem with talking to me, even though I'm the beneficiary.

Now I can start checking my mailbox everyday for Packet 3...

Wow, that's fast. I wonder if mine went that fast too. I haven't been able to call since the 6th because you can only get through pretty late at night, and I'm usually on the phone with my fiance until I'm ready to drop. They send the USC a letter telling you they've sent it to the consulate, but I live in the middle of the cornfields, so I bet anything my petition will reach Vancouver before that letter reaches me! Oh well--that petition getting to Vancouver is what counts anyway!

I don't know exactly when my petition got to NVC. We got our NOA2 on February 27 and I called them on March 6, which is 8 days later. The processing times section of VJ gave the average time for petitions to get from USCIS to NVC as 10 days the last time I looked.

Hi, Applewow. Yeah, I think you just use the number NVC gave you to track it now. If you need to email NVC for any reason, they want you to put the number they gave you in the subject line of the email. I have no idea whether you can use that number to check on your petition using their automated phone system.

The thing is your petition will go through NVC so quickly that it is kind of silly that they assign you a new number. I could be wrong, but I think the consulate will then assign you yet another number. Plus to track it to the consulate, you use a tracking number from DHL.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Maybe someone else can give you a better answer.

Okay, I called last night and NVC has it. I think my brain malfunctioned while I was on the phone with them, so I did not think to ask when they got it or if it had been sent to the consulate yet (I also almost gave my fiance's birthdate as February 2007).

For those who have not tried calling yet, what is a bit frustrating about their phone system is that it won't just leave you on hold if no operator is available; instead, it routes you back to the automated system immediately, which would be well and good if you could enter your USCIS receipt number and get the information you want, but you can't. It also has a message telling you to try back after 6 pm EST, but when I tried calling it WAS after 6 pm EST. I called back at about 11:30 their time and got through immediately.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober and November filers-NOA2 to NVC
Applewow, it is taking on average about two weeks to get to NVC from CSC. It may be faster for petitions from VSC since they are faster about everything else and Vermont is right next to New Hampshire (where the NVC is located). Our NOA2 was issued just over a week ago.

Natasha, that was incredibly rude of them! I don't know why they would do that. Honestly, I assumed the reason you could not call the USCIS number from outside of the US was just that they are too cheap to pay for the calls on the toll free line! If it's any consulation, I don't think USCIS call center people tend to be very helpful or polite when people do manage to talk to them.

I don't know the answer to your question (although NVC has just a regular New Hampshire phone number, so you should at least be able to place the call), but I've heard that they are generally much more polite and helpful than the USCIS people. You might want to ask on the August/September thread or one of the other older threads where there are people who have been through this stage already.
SonoranSongbirdFemaleCanada2008-03-06 11:34:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober and November filers-NOA2 to NVC
No progress to report yet for me, but here is a link to the portion of NVC's website that tells you how to track your case:

http://travel.state..../info_3177.html

Someone posted the link in Igor's August and September thread. You need to have your receipt number from USCIS and your or your fiance's name and birthdate. Once it gets there, I think they assign it a different number, and you can use that to track it, but obviously you won't have it the first time you call.

I have not yet tried calling them, since it's probably not there yet and I am trying very hard not to be obsessive about it. The phone number for the NVC is on that link. It is also on the hard copy of your NOA2.
