CanadaK 1 Visa - Ottawa, Ontario

Thank you guys! Wow..this is...overwhelming!

I was looking at the checklist of all the records that are needed. I was born in Bangladesh and lived there till was 14. I have been living in Canada since. I am 26 now and visited Bangladesh only once for 2 weeks in the last 12 years. Am I going to need to get a police record from Bangladesh as well?

CanadaK 1 Visa - Ottawa, Ontario

Thank you so much everyone for your help.

We plan to file our petition on second week of April this year from Texas for K-1 visa. Do you think I can get my visa by November? We plan to get married in late November and be together for Christmas. I didn't realize how thorough and exhausting this would be until I started doing my research..

CanadaK 1 Visa - Ottawa, Ontario

Thank you so much for your reply!

The other question I have is when I'm contacted by the embassy do I submit my passport then? It's just I visit my fiance often and I plan to visit one more time prolly some time around September before the wedding in December, because my fiance would be moving. Do I not get to keep my passport while everything is being processed?

Also, What happens if my fiance and I get married in Canada and then he sponsors me from the States (R1?) Is that a better, safer way than K1?

CanadaK 1 Visa - Ottawa, Ontario

Hey guys!

Newbie here with lots of questions! smile.png

I'm a Canadian citizen residing in Ottawa, Ontario and will be for K1 visa soon. We got the giant spaceship looking US embassy here in Ottawa but I can't find any approved doctor for medical examination. Do I HAVE TO go to Toronto or Montreal for the medial exam even though the spaceship embassy is right here? What about the interview, can I at least have the interview here in Ottawa?

We plan to get married around the end of November 2014. Keeping all the process and everything in mind, when should my fiance file the petition in the United States. Does it take too long? I found out that I shouldn't go for my medical exam until asked by the embassy, but can I get my police record done prior? Their website says it takes about 6-8 weeks to get it.

Oh and I don't have any vaccination record handy as much as I know but I did get Polio and Tetanus and all that when I was a child, said my mother unsure.png

Thank you so much to everyone in advance, I truly appreciate any advice/suggestion you might have for me! I'm sure I'll have more questions as I start to prepare for this whole...madness wacko.png

CanadaK1 visa - After NOA2...

Hey guys! We just received NOA2!  :joy: (K1 visa - Going to Houston, Texas from Ottawa, Ontario)

I was getting very worried since it had been over 6 months since we received NOA1. I had a few things in mind that I wanted to ask you about and I'm so excited that I'm getting distracted so I'll try to keep it short and simple.

1) Do you think it would be too risky now to aim for a March wedding? Is it impossible to get it all done in the next 5 months?

2) We just got a new house (in Texas) and my fiance will be moving sometime in October. Would this address change be a problem?

3) I know the next step is to call the visa center after 2 weeks..but I'm a little confused about my next step from here. Do I have to contact the Montreal embassy regarding my NOA2 or do they contact me till it gets to that point.

4) The NOA2 letter says it expires by December 2014. What happens if I don't get contacted by the embassy by then?

Thank you so much you guys.

CanadaQuestion concerning Medical in Scarborough with Dr. Lee

Just got NOA2...not there yet. But I think I'll have to visit the same doctor for my medical. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get a proof of chicken pox? Sorry I'm just trying to learn since I'll have to go through the same thing soon (hopefully)

Welcome :content:

Oh oh..for the checklist... For the items that I don't need or don't have or doesn't apply to me..do I leave it blank or should I write N/A? Like where it says Adoption Decree, Court orders, military records etc.

Sorry for being such a pain..

Here's information about all the statuses: http://blogs.usembas...c-status-check/

K-1s are processed as NIVs though it will initially say it is an IV (you even check your case under IV applicant, so weird!). Don't fret, check back on Monday afternoon.

OHHH I was checking it under NIV! After your mentioned I checked under IV and it says "Ready"! Dear lord..it's like they're trying to confuse people on purpose -__-

Thank you so much! I can breathe again!

That's a generic message! I literally got that exact same message after I sent in documents for AP. Was it from OP 19?

Since they have the file you can send them Packet 3.

Send them packet 3 asap

Omg yes! It is from OP 19! :\

Okay I'll just send them packet 3 and request for packet 4 to be emailed. Thanks guys!

One more silly question (as if I ever run out of them).. checking the status of case.. You're supposed to do it with through this > https://ceac.state.g...ker/status.aspx  am I right? Mine says "No Status".. not "Ready" or "In Progress" :\

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMontreal Consulate says "Your file is under review"

Hi guys! I'm back with questions again in panic mode. Again..

I had sent an email to Montreal Consulate through their public query 2 days ago asking if they got my case and when would they send me the checklist for packet 3 as I was told my NVC that they had forwarded it.

Meanwhile I worked on DS-160 and submitted it Thursday. And I worked on packet 3 materials and was planning on submitting it this weekend as everyone suggested there's no need to wait for them to send me a checklist as its already available online.

This morning I got a reply from consulate about my query. It says  "Your file is under review and we are doing our best to process it as fast as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding."... Should I be worried? Is it normal for cases to be under review after it's sent from NVC? I'm freaking out inside just a little bit... At this point should I wait to hear from them or go ahead and submit packet 3.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPacket 4 + Medical questions

Haha you got it right about aneurysm.. I'm probably the worst person when it comes to hyperactive anxiety! I feel bad for my friends :D

I just couldn't believe about Packet 4! It's just I'm not used to getting good things happen to me so fast.. I'm one of those terrible people who miss their flight even after arriving 3 hours earlier... true story

Okay so I won't need Hep A or B. Just a second round of MMR and flu shot. I didn't know about the Titre test! I'll ask my doctor about it. Should I book my interview first and then book the medical 2-3 weeks prior the interview date?

I can't believe how much I have bugged you in the last couple of days.. If you ever visit Houston after I make it *fingers crossed* the drinks are on me! Very grateful. Thank you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPacket 4 + Medical questions

Hey guys! I just sent Packet 3 on Saturday night and today I got Packet 4 emailed to me! :\ Not even ONE business day! I'm not sure if I should celebrate or be worried... Is it common? Does it mean they're gonna be hard on me during the next step?

I also have some questions regarding the medicals.

1) It says I should gather my medical history and previous chest x-rays? Exactly what should I look for. I finally found a family doctor here in Ottawa, ON last year and before that I used to go to walk in clinics if I needed to see a doctor. And I didn't get a chest x-ray done in years.

2) It asks for a list of vaccinations that I should get done and have a record. But the thing is I don't have my immunization records from when I was little. My parents lost it. However I did take Polio and other shots when I was little (I was born and raised in Bangladesh till I was 13). I got TDAP and MMR shots this year and got an immunization record started to prepare for the medicals. My question is What shots are must for me in this case. PS. I had chicken pox when I was little. Should I get Polio shot again?

3) I'm gonna go to Montreal to get my medicals done and I believe I have to get it done at. Do I call them to book appointment? At this is point, do I have a deadline to book for my medical?

4) Is it better to book medical exam and interview the same week or can I just get my medical done and book my interview in 2 weeks or so. Does the medicals expire after a certain time?

5) And lastly, I'm thinking of visiting my fiance. Is it going to be a problem? I'll have my NOA1, NOA2, NVC confirmation, DS-160 confirmation and Packet 4 email with me. Is there any chance they'd not let me in because Im in the process of getting a K1 visa? Would they have it in their system that I have applied for K1 visa?

I'm still freaking out over getting Packet 4 emailed in less than 1 business day..

Please and thank you for your time and help.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice Record vs Criminal Record

Hi guys,

We are in the process of our K1 application (moving from Ottawa, ON to Houston, TX) and I had a question about the police record check. I'm sort of confused if I need a Police record check or a criminal record check. Does it have anything to do with finger prints? I'm hearing two different things, one is that I can go to my local police station in Ottawa and get it done through this form > http://www.ottawapol...Check_e,pdf.pdf

and the other thing I'm hearing is I need to get it done following this http://www.rcmp-grc....g-empr2-eng.htm

I'm sort of freaking out coz it says Criminal record check takes about 6-8 weeks! How long would it take to get police record done in Ottawa? I can't find it anywhere on their website all I saw was about background checks. Please help, would truly appreciate it. (Don't have any records of any kind that I'm aware of, except I was charged with "careless" driving when I was a teenager and I have been told it's not in my record anymore. I'm 24 now) Thanks so much guys.

Hey guys! We just got our NVC confirmation for our K1 application. It asks us to visit ceac.state.gov and fill out a

All you need to email for Packet 3 is the DS-160 barcode page, a color scan of your biographic info in your passport, and a scanned copy of the checklist on the second page (with applicable checked items), the 3 files my fiance submitted came to about 2mb all together. You bring the bank statements as a part of the I-134, which you bring to the interview.

Oh my god.. Thank you! Wow..well don't we make the smartest, instruction following couple..we have been scanning stuff all day and neither of us noticed its actually just 3 things they're asking for..wow. Thanks a bunch for explaining it. If you don't mind, chances are I'll be bothering you again for advice since my fiance and I both are so dull :\

.

Don't wait for Montreal to contact you because they'll take their sweet time! As soon as it says "Ready" submit your DS-160 if you haven't yet (remember to save the confirmation page with the bar code!), and just email them Packet 3. Here are the instructions if you don't have them: http://photos.state....ket3-K1-MTL.pdf. When you send this, let them know you want to receive Packet 4 as an email instead of a hard copy.

Thank you kindly. Really appreciate all the help. Just submitted DS-160. I'm working on packet 3 now and my fiance got his bank statements and everything ready. We're scanning them to email. But there's a limit of 25MB attachment limit for most emails.. Do you have any suggestion for me regarding this? Just his yearly bank statement alone is 11 MB and if we change the resolution to make it smaller it becomes a little blurry. I'm guessing I won't be able to send them Packet 3 in two separate emails with the attachment? I don't know what to do...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUnable to contact Montreal US Consulate

Thank you so much for your help everyone! I have used their public form to contact them. Hopefully they won't take too long to answer back.

I have a question about something else though. Many of you have mentioned checking the status of case on CEAC to see if it says "ready". Sorry for acting like an airhead, but does that step come AFTER submitting DS-160? (I did read through the forum and the procedure process but perhaps I'm still missing something)

I haven't submitted 160 yet, it's filled out I'm just gonna get my pictures taken and submit it tomorrow. In the meantime, other than submitting the 160 and collecting the packet 3 requirement, is there anything else that I should be doing? Or at this point I just wait to hear from the Montreal Embassy.

Another question I have is we just got our house this week so we have a new address. I'm putting the address of our new house on DS-160..that should be okay right? I'm sorry...anxiety makes me incredibly confused.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUnable to contact Montreal US Consulate

Hey Guys!

I need help with contacting the Montreal US embassy.

I called 514-398-9695 and try to get around it for an hour but seems like it's just an automated phone number. Then I tried the emergency number (514) 981-5059 and after an hour a lady picked up and said this is for after hour emergency only and "I have no information on visa or passport or anything like that. Look in internet" and hung up...

I received my NVC confirmation on September 18th so I wanted to talk to the embassy if they received my file and about my DS-160 application. How do they run an embassy without answering phone calls! Does anyone know if there's any way to contact them. How do I confirm that they have my file and will be sending me the checklist soon. Thanks you.

USCIS Service CentersAdvice on overstay: i-601 or i-601a?

the 601a is to be filed if you are here in the united states, and the 601 waiver is to be filed after your interview if you are outside of the united states.

The above is correct; you will need to file an I-601 waiver since you're outside the US, and would need to show it would be a hardship to your mother if you weren't admitted to the US.

You should consult with an attorney as to how best this waiver should be prepared.

Thanks for your suggestion guys!

USCIS Service CentersAdvice on overstay: i-601 or i-601a?

Hey guys I was brought in on a visitor visa to USA when I was 11 year olds and remained there. However since I was illegal I decided to move when I was 20 to Canada so that I could go to college and study (I was approved for a Canadian student visa and have been in school up till to this point).

In 2006 my mother married remarried (while I was still under 21) to a full USA citizen and filed for me. Since then she has obtained full citizenship herself.

This December the form came through and I was told to bring a ds-230 (a and b) to the visa office. Everything seemed to be going fine until they got to the part where I have a bar for remaining in the states longer than a year (10 year bar).

I assume it started in 2009 (when I cross over to Canada) and remains in effect till 2019.

They suggested filing a i-601 but browsing here I found about i-601a.

From looking over the forms it seems i-601a deals with just the overstay part, where as i-601 deals with multitude of over possible reasons for being rejected.

Should I attempt to file a i-601a instead of i-601?

Thank you for any advice.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Some questions about i-601.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Some questions about i-601.

Hello folks, I was hoping that you could help me out with some questions in the form.

I was born in Russia and lived there till I was 11 years old.

I immigrated to the states as a child (was 11) and stayed there till I was 20 (unknowingly that I was illegal till age 16). At 21 I moved to Canada on a student visa and have recently had an appointment at the consulate about getting my ds230 in (was filed from the year 2006).

My mother is a full citizen and was remarried to an American citizen (who applied for me before I turned 21 and left the country).

As it turns out at the interview I had a bar till 2019 (since 2009 when I entered Canada I assume), and my only recourse is filing a I-601.

1) In the I-601 is the "Department of State consular case number" the number I had the appointment starting with MTL and numbers?

2) In terms of fault the only thing I have is the 10 year bar which is option 27. Do I need to check option 29 if I haven't attempted to cross over the border, but only went to the consulate?

3) The writing for extreme circumstances as to why I need to be present in the states is as follows:

Due to my time away my step father had suffered a stroke and became paralyzed on one side of his body as well as aphasia, heart valve issue and mental function decrease.

My mother is seeking to go back to school but she would need to have someone else watch him around the clock (which she herself does), and does not want to put him in a nursing home. He does not qualify for nursing assistance as had too high of an income.

What kind of things would the doctor need to write to prove to whoever is reading the filing about his condition and the need for care around a clock?

What would my mother have to send in with the 601 about her going back to school? Her letters of application from the school or something more?

Thank you for your help once again.
