Canadapolice certificate with fingerprints
When I had mine done the RCMP site said 4 months and since that would have put me past the expiration date on the NOA-2 I called the Consulate and they said they would give an extention as the RCMP told them 7 month and the Consulate told me I would get it around October I did in fact get the certificate I bleive March 3 days after talking with the consulate and 70 days after sending in the forms.

Don't ya just gotta love those bureaucrates, totally consistant right across the board. Here I thought every winner was sworn in before being interrogated and it doesn't happen, that sux, I thought it was a fool proof way of figuring out who won, but the bureaucratic proved me wrong again.

OK I blew it, those who posted they had to did and those who didn't say so didn't, ####### I'm starting to think like the folks at the consulate asuming and jumping to incorrect conclussions. Sorry folks back to the drawing board with this one.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat should I do? - paranoid anxiety
From what I read you did the medical and no further information has been requested, to me that means you passed. I did mine on June 7 and still I am not done because clarification and further documentation is required, did your dr. tell you that you could be denied, no, well mine did right there in her office and I'm not half as stressed as you seem to be. Don't give yourself a heart attack now that you're nearing the end of the trip.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioncan I drop package 3 off ?

First of all congratulation and secondly I have no clue whether you can or can't. If things there are as they are here at work, everything that is coming into the building has to be picked up by the addressee or it has to be brought to the mailroom for scanning by machine and visually. I don't think that the Consulate would allow you to their mailroom and I doubt they would allow the reception/security to receive packages.

Thats what I thought , but I thought give it a shot and ask maybe I get lucky and can save a few days , but oh well whats a few days when ya can live the rest of your live happy , once all is done and over with , and thank you for the best wish as I see on your timeline you deserve a congrats too , Lona

Don't give up yet you only heard from me so far, there may be a way that someone else tried that has yet to be posted. Wait to see what others have to say or give it a try all they can say is we can't take it here it has to be posted. I hope you get a solution that works, remember that Réjean had to pick his up there so just maybe you can drop yours off.

I am a K1 and I paid at the bank and it was not appreciated by the consulate even though they did accept it after a short discussion. I was told that the bank payments are not for the K type visa's and since you are a K1 bring the money with you and pay there, that is what they want.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDenial Because of Public Assistance
It would as I see it depends on the work history of the beneficiary and not exactly the fact that he is on public assistance. They may think he has fallen into a pattern of some kind where he works and then doesn't on a regular or semi-regular basis.

The following may be some of the things they have looked for in his BIO.

How old is the beneficiary?

How many positions has he held in his lifetime?

How long is the longest position he has held?

How long has he been on public assistance?

How often has he gone from job to public assistance?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionObtaining Police Certificates in Canada
One thing not yet mentioned is that if you DO NOT have a criminal record DON't do a finger print background check with the RCMP as that will take time. As Jeremy + Kristy said get a Canada wide check done either with your local police, or the RCMP as Nini & Bee, remember that fingerprints are for those with criminal convictions.
All the best to you, have a pleasant and quick trip.

I don't know how long it is good for either, I received mine in January and presented it at the consulate in August without any comments being made about the date, I don't know if they didn't look closely at the date or if it is good for a year. Perhaps when you apply you can ask that question.
As for been deported that should not be a problem at all in getting the certificate of good conduct. The certificate is to show that while in Germany you have or do not have a criminal conviction. If you have not been convicted with an offense your certificate should come back to you with the comment "Keine Eintragung" (No Entries).

That is the one you need, it shouldn't take very long to get it, mine took less than a week. Remember that it (the request) has to be brought to the German Embassy or Consulate in Italy to be validated, at least that is what I had to do here at a cost of 15 Euro.

Bring the list of vaccinations needed to your family doctor and let them decide which ones are needed as per your file, and once completed you should get a certificate (fact sheet) stating the shots you have received and the date they were received to bring to the medical examination. There is no harm in doing the ones you can't remember having had done or the ones there is no documentation for.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNew or used
Has anyone tried to figure out the best way to get a quick response from their consulate?

I don't know if anyone has posted this yet so my experience is that if I have a question and I send a new e-mail it can take up to five days to get a reply from the consulate, but if I use any of the old e-mails and hit the reply button I get a reply within 24 hours and usually in a matter of hours.

The thing is as everyone knows, you always look at replies first then the new e-mails. I found that people preferred to continue a conversation than start a new, one beside a new e-mail is up for grabs by anyone as it goes into a general pool and a replied e-mail is sent to a specific person and only that person. Mind you it is up to the receiver to reply right away or not but your chances are greater to get a quick reply using the reply rather than sending a new message.

It work more often than not for me hopefully it will for you to, try it.

Happy trail to you

Ron

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionThe Montreal slowdown !!!
QUOTE (Spoom @ Oct 19 2009, 03:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Not really.

Once you hit four months, I'd recommend involving a senator or congressperson. Beyond that though, not really. Montreal has deliberately limited contact methods so that we can't even directly talk to them except through email, and more often than not, the email address will fail to respond to your message personally.

If you e-mail Montreal always use the reply button on any e-mail they answered as it give you direct contact to the last person who contacted you, otherwise you end up in the generic mail batch and may never get an answer.

US Citizenship General DiscussionGood Moral Character Question
I do believe that every person born in a hospital would have to say yes to that question. I think the question was just for checking your medical background. Don't sweat over being in the hospital if it was a mental or prison hospital I would worry a bit but nothing more than that. I'm sure the doctor wouldn't waste any time reporting what you went through as it was more of a discomfort than a disease.

If you send the letter be sure that someone at the other end signs for it and request a receipt which will tell you who signed and when.
You will get a reply and most likely it will be what you already know.

I sent a package to the former Director of USCIS in Sept. 2007 and got a reply in Oct. dated Sept. 2008, so they do reply in their own good time not ours.

Do what you feel is right, it may or may not help the process but if it makes yoy feel good go for it.

Don't know too much about the military and passports it has been a very long time since I've been there. I had spent a few years in the forces in Europe and the only place I remember needing a passport was to go to Austria. Here in the Public Service the blue one is exchanged for the green and returned when the green one is.

The only reason I was asking is that Sharon asks which would be better and easier for us, her coming here or my going there. My reply is my going there because of everything we have there, we have been setting up the house in thte way we like. I gave my daughter everything I have here minus photos and my clothing.

I did go and lok at the CIC site and saw that spouses are allowed in the country during the immigration process which the States would not. We will stick with the system we are in right now an hopefully I will land in the home State of Toto and Dorothy and not too far from thier hometown of Liberal.

Thank you everyone for the information you have provided it will be very useful if ever a denial is recieved. We are just looking at options since have past our prime and want settle comfortably together.

Question

I and my Fiancé have a K-1 petition at the California Service Center and even though we still have many months before anything arrives in Montreal I have the following question:

I have spent approximately 3 years in the Canadian Armed Forces in Germany during the late 1960’s and early 1970,s, is it necessary to get a Police Certificate from that country since I resided on the Forces base during my stay there.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration

Reply

Thank you for your inquiry.

I’ve checked fairly thoroughly through our regulations, and as far as I can see, U.S. immigration law would require the German police clearance in your case. Thankfully, they are available and reliable, and you seem to have enough time to obtain one. I’ll paste our guidance on obtaining this certificate below.

POLICE RECORD

(Fuehrungszeugnis) Available.

Each person over the age of fourteen may obtain an individual penal record. The application has to be filed with the registration office (Meldebehoerde) having jurisdiction over the applicant’s residence. Former residents of Germany, no longer registered in Germany, can apply for an individual record through the German Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence, or directly with the Bundeszentralregister in Bonn. The application form is available at the German Embassy/Consulate, or directly from the Bundeszentralregister, Auslandsabteilung, Heinemannstrasse 6, 53175 Bonn. Telephone: 01888-58443. Fee: 13 EURO. Processing time - minimum of three to four weeks.

CanadaFree International Calls
I use "Wintel" here in Ottawa, it works well for me since I pay only .25 per call with no time limit to the States and in Canada and pay an average of $19.00 for a average of 2500 to 3000 minutes per month. Sharon pays a flat rate of less than $5.00 per month for all her long distance calls.

CanadaWeather-

It was a funny post. However, we have usually mild winters here and no one seems to mind when it gets cold except for me. No one can believe I'm actually from Canada. Even in the summer I'll wear sweaters to work. I'm sorry anything under 70 degrees and I'll be feezing. Then again, I also hike in the desert in the summers with my jeans and black shirt in temps above 100 and I'm fine (my friends and wife really do believe I'm not from this planet ha ha)...

I dress up in summer and down in winter. It all has to do with work conditions, in the summer you or at least I freeze because of the air conditioning and in winter with the heat turned up it gets to be too much. So if ever you’re in Ottawa and I'm still here wave to the nut in short sleeves having a smoke in temperature that freezes exposed skin in less than three minutes.

P.S. In warmer weather I smoke king size and in winter's colder temps I go back to the regular smokes

I can't understand what would be holding you up in Montreal, you have been through everything else they threw at you. Have either one of you e-mailed Montreal to get answers, did you get anything from Montreal saying they had you file.

We on the other hand find that it is going very well for us. I received an e-mail from Montreal this morning Jan. 4th it was a reply that I sent on Dec. 29th for a change of address/when I could do it . The following is their answer: File noted and correspondence will be sent to you shortly. my file was recieved there on Dec 28, today Sharon received a letter in Kansas from Montreal stating that within the week package 3 will be sent to me her letter is dated Dec. 29th.

I have no idea what it is that we have done to be blessed so far, we will take everything given to us if it gets us together sooner.

CanadaPearson or JFK as a POE?

Not sure, but don't you need a boarding pass to get into the international terminal from any of the domestic terminals as you would when you first get to the airport? I seem to recall something like that and maybe that's why it can't easily be done.

Guess you could always ask upon arrival. But couldn't they just go get an INFOPASS and get the EAD at the local office? Shouldn't take that long to setup an appointment if all else fails...

My idea was flying from Ottawa to JFK then on to Wichita and then drive home rather than ottawa to Atlanta.

That way I believe I would be going through the International Terminal and it would be a second point of entry POE

Well, I’m not sure either, just putting out an idea.

I was thinking of just getting to the terminal and then seek assistance from that point and perhaps there would be a kind heart there that would act as an escort to the proper area and once there ask for the stamp. I know it wouldn’t be easy and negotiating skills would definitely come into play through out that process.

Asking doesn’t hurt unless you the cost to you is more than you need or want. I’m not sure if an INFOPASS would be available at the airport but if I were to stay in New York area it would be something to look into, but I doubt it would be fruitful meaning I don’t think they would issue the stamp.

Misa, the very day NVC told me they sent our file to the consulate I sent an e-mail with a reason to the consulate requesting an address change just an e-mail not a form and on the same day I recieved a reply from them Sharon recieved a letter saying the packet would be sent shortly that was the same day that the packet was sent.
I don't think they really care were it is sent to as long as it gets to you. As for who made the mistake I tend to think both in the way did, the consulate by switching the 0 for a O and the post office for returning it as undeliverable because the mechanical reader could differntiate between a 0 and an O and it wasn't checked manually.
The office address was the mosst logical ince more time is spent there than at home.

As for Canada Post sucking, all I get from them are bills and anything in a brown envelopes, Still didn't get the 2005 Christmas presents and not one Chistmas card this year which makes me believe they have a B list and I am on it. I think the moral of the story is Don't Piss Off a Postal Worker especiall one that works at the main sorting plant in Calgary.

All the best in you journey

CanadaPacket 3 returned to consulate
On January 4th my awaited packet 3 was sent to my office  then a few days later sent again  because it was returned. I called the Consulate today and luckily it only took 18 minutes to get through :joy: and asked if there was any information on my file, the answer was "you don't have it, we sent it twice". :o Now the question is who  messed up the Consulate or Canada Post :goofy: the address quoted was the one I sent them except the 0 was replaced by a O  as in A1B 0C2 to A1B OC2. The good thing is I didn't wait longer to call since Sharon did receive a letter on the same day they mailed the packet stating it would be sent within the week and on the same day I got an e-mail stating it would be sent out shortly. I can see the mistake at the consulate happening but having Canada Post return to sender is a bit too much.

I'm starting to think I've been B listed at canada post :secret: by an ex girlfriend :girlwerewolf2xn: who just happens to work as a mail sorter, Jesus maybe that is why only the bills get through now that I think of it.

CanadaI just paid a guy $225 to play with my nuts

C.'s medical was today. Yesterday he received his tetanus vaccination.

In Edmonton the doctor's office was nearly empty. It is, however, in a building that is tricky to find if you "can never find a thing in downtown Edmonton anyway", as the office is in a converted house rather than a typical office building.

They were very friendly, and the whole physical, including a cursory eye exam, took about 20 minutes. He had to drive to a couple different places to get the X-rays and the blood work.

They drew four vials of blood, one for hepatitis, one for HIV, one for MMR, and one for varicella.

He'll have the results & the X-ray Tuesday.

The title was C.'s overall opinion of the interview.

I'm paying $250.00  so for that price the Dr. is going to be a woman  :P
