My visa was approved yesterday! Montreal is a great place to visit and easy to get around.
I will write a bit of a review later.

Lise (and anyone else really) I'm worried I don't have the right printout for my confirmation of doing the DS 160 form online. Is there any way you can show me or describe to me what you guys have? Mine is just one page with my photo and a barcode and stuff on it.. hmmm..

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR APPROVAL GIRL!!! <3

HI Christine,
Bring your packet 4 letter (it doesn't have your interview date) and your confirmation on booking your interview. I am also bringing a confirmation of the fee payment. The reviews seem to be that the interview in of itself is painless in comparison to the rest of what we did....I will soon find out on Aug 23rd!The other thing is if I had not called DOS to see if packet 3 had been sent I would still be waiting......never did receive packet 3 in the mail!
Lise

Excellent, thanks Lise! I did not get Packet 3 either, but I did get packet 4 and I have all the rest of that. I look forward to hearing about your interview, I have been so lucky throughout this process to have someone so incredibly helpful and encouraging doing every step a little bit before me! :P haha. I'm not too nervous, just worrying about forgetting things! I've got everything well organized though, so I'm trying not to be worrying needlessly. Best of luck on your interview, I will be thinking of you!

Getting things ready for my interview coming up (so soon!) and it says I need to bring my letter confirming the date and time of my interview... so far I haven't gotten any letter with the date on it, though I booked by email months ago! The mail is so slow here and the Montreal consulate is even slower, so I guess it could be that..

Otherwise I think everything is in order, I'm just very nervous that I'm going to forget something!

Mari that is fantastic news!!!

Blake is here with me right now, we are having a blast and have a super busy schedule. My birthday is this month so he got me a fancy new touch screen android cell phone to use when I come home to Atlanta :) He always found us a place to live and will be moving when he gets home.

My interview is coming up fast and I'm nervous! I keep having dreams that something has gone wrong or I made a mistake and they make me re-book a new appointment! D: I'm sure everything will be fine, I'm just a worrier.

HUGE congratulations to Ola and Nea!!!

M&J My interview is on the 31st too! 8:31am, what a silly time.

I'm not getting my medical mailed to me because of the cost (50 bucks? Its a two hour drive if I wanted to pick it up, so we're just going to get it the day before my interview). Is this too risky? If I called the clinic would they be able to tell me over the phone if anything is wrong? I know I don't have any illnesses that they test for, and everything seemed to go fine when I was there..

Blake has found us a house that we like to rent, so we are waiting to hear back to see if we get it. It's exciting but it's also making me nervous about money, even though my parents told me they would help me until I can get on my feet down there (I am still in school afterall, they did the same for my stepsister) I'm a worrier, I just can't help it! This is so the wrong situation for a worrier to be in :P

Time seems to be flying by all of a sudden.

two big suit cases and a couple little ones. FI sacrificed a lot of clothes but in this hot weather he could afford to. What all are you looking to bring?

Clothes, a few household things... The one issue is that my mom gave me a hope chest (that my grandpa made for her when she was getting married, it used to be their old tv/radio combo! haha) which is relatively heavy already. We ended up deciding that Blake will fly up here and we'll use my parents' minivan to ROAD TRIP my stuff down to Atlanta. Then when my parents come down to see us get married at the courthouse they'll drive it back up. VERY exciting! It makes the most sense and is the most economical, shipping things is CRAZY expensive imo.

Congratulations everyone on all the exciting stuff happening!

Blake will be coming to Canada to visit from the 8th to the 18th (unfortunately he won't be here for my interview on Aug.31, but he has to start school before that back home) and we'll be making sure everything is all together and organized for my interview. I'm nervous about it!

I'm hoping for a mid-October move, just depending on how other things going on here work out around that time. With his visit coming up and 'taking up' most of August, I feel like its very soon that I'll be moving! We've been looking online at houses/apartments together, and he already found me a perfect cell phone plan, what a guy :)

My medical went well. A lot of going back and forth from the waiting room to other rooms and back again for more waiting. I didn't like the doctor who I saw first much (though he wasn't very good in English so maybe he just didn't come off well) but everyone else was nice and I lived through the needle for bloodwork all on my own and didn't cry or anything :)

Then we went to the mall and I got the dress that I'll wear for our courthouse ceremony. I don't want to make a big deal about it since its not our 'real' wedding and I don't want to change the feel of our big day, but a girl can't say no to another pretty white dress! heehee

They put up a stink about your photos? I didn't even include mine, because they were listed on the checklist and I read somewhere that they just ask for them again. That's too bad. I'm sure it will all get sorted out and in plenty of time for your interview. It looks like we just miss each other at our interviews by a day.

As for the blood work, don't fret and stress. It's easy peazy and will be done before you know it!

Well they didn't say they were WRONG, just that I had to send more in along with the other forms they were asking for. I just got them done at the drugstore again (Canadian one this time though) and sent those in, so I hope its not the size! This is why I'm frustrated, if I don't know what exactly I did wrong/didn't do/whatever, how can I fix it this time?

I sent in everything they asked for today and its guaranteed to get there monday, though it could always get there tomorrow since it doesn't have that far to go. I should have just brought it myself since I'm going to the city for my medical anyway! hahah.

thanks for the reassurance about the blood work, I'll be thinking of Blake and my new home in Atlanta the whole time!

So I got a letter from the consulate asking me for four things, all of which I included in my original packet 3 (including the photos, and you guys remember me going on about the size of the photos!). I tried to call Montreal but of course they don't speak with you on the phone, and when I emailed them it said they would get back to me within TWO WEEKS. I'm very frustrated because I don't know what happened that either these things are missing from my package now (and I KNOW we put them in, I checked that thing a dozen times) or that they want doubles.

It's making me very upset because I worked so hard on that packet 3 (and everything else) and now I have to redo things with no explanation whatsoever. I am already stressed out that I have to go to Montreal for my medical on friday, which means bloodwork (I'm very needle-phobic), so this is not helping. What if this stuff doesn't get sorted in time for my interview August 31st and I have to book a new one, which wouldn't be for AGES? I am clearly freaking out here guys :(

Wow, so much excitement and good news!! I'm so thrilled for everyone, its great to get all these positive updates all the time these days.

I'm going for my medical next friday, I just need to go get some passport photos taken to bring with me.

I've been spending as much time as possible with my mama lately, making the most of it! *sniffle* haha.

Also in fitness challenge news, I did Week 2 Day 2 of Couch to 5K today and it went alright! Its still pretty tough so I think I'll do Week 2 twice just to make sure I'm ready for the next step, but I'm very pleased that I've been doing it so regularly (and eating pretty well to boot, despite the temptation to eat as much poutine as I can while I have the chance! hahah)

keep the good news coming, Decemberites!

Yes, it feels real good to be organized and ready for the interview! :) And we might find we missed something every time we look at our organized folders or binders.
You're one up on me buying stationery at the dollar store. I bought three folders (1/2" thick) with 24 plastic sleeves each at Office Depot :) I wanted something thin enough to slight under the glass window at the interview booth.

I sent one folder stuffed with documents and photos to my fiancee, and she felt it's better with 2 folders, so I created another set of two presentation folders and added more stuff :D I'll hand carry those to her a few days before her interview :)

Soon, I'll make travel arrangements and tell my boss I'll be gone for two weeks in July :D Traveling to China is a lot harder and more expensive then going to Canada :) It's not merely across the border to the neighbor country, it's the other side of the world with 11 to 14 hours time difference and all :D BUT, it's exciting and worth it :)

That sounds very exciting, I'd love to take a big trip like that! (although I'm sure the novelty would wear off doing it more regularly :P)

I went to the dollar store today and got one of those file folder dividers, and two binders full of clear plastic sleeves so I can protect and organize all my documents for the interview and medical. It feels SO good to have things so organized!

Looking through them I realized we dated Blake's letter of intent to marry wrong so he'll have to send me a new signed copy (if the mail ever gets up and running again here!)

Christine, where do you live? My city police's website had a number of forms listed and I selected the Basic Criminal Records Search and the form has two checks that are done. One states "DOES NOT have a criminal record in the RCMP National Repository for Criminal Records in Canada" and the other says the same thing but for the city I live in. If you haven't gotten an answer yet, and you're from a bigger city try that first. If not (and you're in Ontario) used this link for the OPP site http://www.opp.ca/ec...ndex.php?id=499 . The last one listed is criminal record checks and it tells you what you need and how to go about getting a background check (and you don't need one for vulnerable population..those take a lot longer and cost more). If you need more info, message me.

Thanks, I am in a small city so I had to go to the OPP detachment.. they gave me a short white form but I'm not sure exactly which one it was.. I get it back on tuesday and it costs me 25 dollars so I will double check when I get it (I tried to call montreal but of course they are on vacation until wednesday!), thank you for that link!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresa time question
Hi, I know this is probably asked a lot, so sorry for the repetitive nature of the question. I really couldn't understand those processing time charts

I'm a Canadian, wanting to marry my American fiance and move there to be with him. Our wedding is scheduled for next september, but the wait of being here in Canada is killing me so we're considering doing the legal marriage this december in order to cut some time off our wait. I'd really rather get legally married on my september wedding day though, so I'm trying to weigh if its worth it.

so the question is, from your initial filing, how long did you have to wait until you could enter the united states to stay?

thanks so much, I'm really torn about this issue so any advice could help.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfew questions about G-325A and proof
Okay, so being the 'foreign fiance' I am filling out the G-325a for our first package to send in, and I just wanted to double check that I have things right.

Where it says 'file number: A____' I have put 'none', like on the sample form. Is this right?
And the same for the social security number, just 'none'?
And what about my 'Alien Registration Number' at the bottom, 'none' again?

Finally for the proof of having met/ongoing relationship, I include photocopies of things like boarding passes, etc, I don't need the real ones - correct?

Thank you so much, I really need to make sure our application is error free due to time constraints and all.

I'm currently on the wait for a K1 visa in Canada and have been waiting for 4 months with ZERO movement but I really think you'd be done before September. That's 10 months away. Just make sure you get it in very soon and you didn't overlook anything that may cause a Request for Further Evidence, which would delay you a bit. You can always post a thread listing what you're sending to USCIS and members here will look it over for you and suggest any additions or changes you may have overlooked.

Thank you! I think we'll be able to put our application in the mail by monday, so here's fingers crossed!

So originally we thought the cr1 visa would be the best for us, but now I am reading that our best bet would be to file a k1 application. I live in Canada and want to immigrate to the US to be with my fiance. We have a deposit down for our wedding september 9th, 2011, in Atlanta. If we were to start filing for a k1 ASAP do you think we would receive it in time for our wedding?

thanks so much

My dad was born Harold Carl Gregg, but he has gone by Gregg his whole life. I wasn't thinking, and just wrote 'Gregg' as his first name on my form. Is this a big deal?

I already sent the form to my fiance in the US, he has it now. If I need to fix it, can he like white it out and fix it or will we need to print out a whole new form with it fixed on it?

thank you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer vs. Self file K1
I'm in Canada and my fiance is the US and we filed on our own, just being sure to research and double check anything. We filed two months ago and have not heard anything from them about mistakes or RFEs so I think we did alright. I definitely think you can do it on your own.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarriage before K1 visa approval!

I do not think people are trying to purposely plan a wedding before they get their k1, over the past 6 months the process time has change quite alot, and when organising a wedding with lots of people and lots of people from different countries it needs to be done early and timed well. I do not believe people are deliberately trying to "break rules" and I do not believe these issues were an issue when they were filling out forms, I for one did not predict the processing timers to increase by another 2 or so months, which has caused us to delay our wedding 2 months, which still looks like it will be close with a wedding date of 29/10/11 and a NOA1 of 20/12/2010. I think if anything people are trying to work out how they can both celebrate "a day" with friends & family as well as abide by the k1 rules.

I completely agree. We planned our wedding for 11-11-11, with an NOA1 date of December 2nd 2010. We thought just over 11 months would be enough for what we were being told everywhere was an approximately 9 month process. We certainly didn't expect times to slow down to such an extreme degree, so yes, the 'non-legal wedding before K1' thing did cross our minds (we aren't religious so it wouldn't even be a religious ceremony). That doesn't mean we're looking for loopholes or trying to cheat the system - we're just trying to make the best of what has gone wrong through no fault of our own. I think that is the case with many people right now.

AmyKathleen, I don't know about you, but after all that we've gone through being long distance and then the ####### USCIS puts us through for our visa, I am NOT waiting one second longer than I have to to be with my fiance! We're doing this because we want to be together, so that seems kind of counterproductive. To each their own, I suppose.
