As of May 26, 2011, we've been NOA2ed! Looks like the interview is not necessary, but we'll see what the letter says.

Unless you are talking about some other interview that I don't know about, you will need to do one.

They mailed my packet 3 on May 5 - I still have not received a hard copy! I called 1-202-663-1225 (press 1; press 0). I called back and she confirmed it had been sent. I just called asking about packet 4 - has not been sent; she suggested emailing Montreal.

LISE, HELP!

How do I find out if they have sent me packet 3 yet? I called the number on the consulate website and got the longest message ever, which just confused me and gave me no information. :(

I seem to have booked my interview! On the consulate page it said make sure to sign up for DHS/etc so I did, and then near the end it said 'book your interview' so I just did it! August 31st at 8:31 am, haha. OH looking at the montreal recap from Lise, it seems I have booked my interview too early! oops. I was just following what it said on the consulate page! I hope this won't cause a problem.

I finished all the paperwork today and once I get the photos I will send it in. I'm still a little confused on how/when I book my medical, but I think I can figure it out (I think they need to receive my packet 3 first? yes? I am calling tonight anyway to make sure they have sent me packet 3 by now, though I'm sure they have)

PHEW this is tough!

I'm way behind, Blake and I went on our first vacation/hotel stay together by driving an hour and a half to Chattanooga, TN, it was great! I see that Sonoko has made it to the US! Fantastic!!

I haven't sent in my packet 3 yet (shame, I know!) but at the same time I am not in a super rush because I can't come to the states until the end of October anyway (I have a disability hearing, I applied a year ago and they still havent made my decision and won't until October! And then as soon as they do I'm like okay see ya I'm leaving, haha) so I am not stressing myself over it too much. I have almost all my forms done though.

@Mari yay, I'm glad you got to hear from Kadir and that all is well! Hopefully he will be back home very soon!

@nicola and ferincor I think getting a lawyer could go either way. On one hand, I don't know if I could trust someone else to do all this and I would probably be all over them all the time checking in and bugging them about it :P but on the other hand it certainly is hard/stressful to do all this on my own!

I'm about halfway through all my forms for packet 3, I have my case number and all that from NVC, so I just need to get through a bit more (and create all my sheets of additions, some of those spaces for your answers are SMALL! haha) and then it will be ready for when Montreal says they have sent me the packet. I'm getting very excited about the whole thing now!

Having a girls night with a friend tonight to unwind from all this stress!

Lise thank you for the link!! Have you gotten anything in the mail yet? (packet 3 stuff, whatever) or did you call NVC for your number and thats that? Also, have you thought about electronic filing for Montreal? With the way mail goes in Canada I'm thinking I might do it that way.

Last night Blake and I were outside talking and I realized that in SIX MONTHS from now I will be living in Atlanta with him, a married lady! (I have to stay in Canada until around mid-October because of other government stuff I'm going through) How unbelievable that this long-distance part of our journey is almost over! I am brimming with excitement and possibilities today.

Working on my packet 3 forms even though I haven't gotten any mail yet from my consulate.. I forgot how stressful it is to fill in the forms, I'm so worried I'll do something wrong! Even with the thread map I get confused as to what I need (though I think I got it covered by looking at my consulate website..just a few government forms for this first one, yes?) STRESS!! But also major excitement!

Congratulations to our new NOA2s, I am so thrilled that they are coming in so fast and furious these days! Everyone else I'm sure you are any day now!

fishernyalew - Don't cancel your petition yet. Maybe once you guys get approved she will be able to see the end of the waiting and will realize it was just her stress talking when she broke it off.

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there :) <3

We found 4 newborn kittens outside the house yesterday, things are HECTIC here trying to find homes for them. One has a home, two are being brought to a foster home tomorrow to get a little bigger before they go to the permanent home we found, and one is still chilling with us waiting for someone to come for it. They seem to always want to be on you or in your lap or they meow constantly, what a long day! haha :luv:

Just checked our case status today, and we got an RFE!

Yaaaaaaaaay! I'm just happy they actually looked at it. I wonder what it's for as my fiance and I took care to make sure we got everything and we provided a ton of solid evidence of having met in the last two years. I think it probably has to do with either my citizenship or my employment history. Though both of those items seem trivial to send an RFE out for. We'll see, I guess.

I love your great attitude about this Piefre! Once you find out what its for, you can send them whatever you need and then BOOM noa2!

Last night I was getting a bit emotional about thinking about leaving my family, my mom in particular. We're so close and she is my best friend and I still live with her so its going to be a big change to be so far away. Also the rest of my family, like my darling grandpa and my twin sister. Its just going to be such a huge change! I know I'm doing the right thing for me though and I'm so happy that I will finally get to be with Blake permanently. Is anyone else having worries like this?

Congratulations Gwen and Wouter!!!

My plans for getting my stuff down to Atlanta are:

1. I am really hoping my dad can convince my grandma to give me her car as a wedding present from her and my dad. She is way too old to drive it and doesn't need the money for selling it. I have enough money in my account to either buy a used car, or pay for insurance for a car for awhile, but not both. That way, Blake can fly up and then we can road trip down to Atlanta together with the car packed with as much as possible.

2. My mom and step-dad are looking into driving down for the wedding, especially since they have a van and I need to move a giant, very heavy, hope chest that my grandpa made for my mom when she moved out.

3. My dad and step-mom are also driving down, so I will get them to take some of my stuff.

4. The rest will be given to my family and I'll pay for them to take an extra suitcase when they fly.

I don't really have a ton of stuff to bring with me other than clothes and mementos/sentimental stuff, and the hope chest, so hopefully we can avoid shipping too much.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionConsulates in Canada
Hey all, I've been doing a bit of reading up on this, and I know my fiance has to submit the paperwork in Vermont, but are Vancouver and Montreal the only 2 consulates where they do the interviews? I thought there was a consulate in Calgary, Albeta (which is still a day's drive from Fort McMurray). I'd rather go there than to Vancouver. Is that possible?
Sorry if I'm missing something, I'm a newbie and this whole thing is kind of overwhelming. I just want to be with the man I love.

US Citizenship General Discussiona few ?s about becoming a US Citizen

Hi friends

It's been a long time since I've posted here and I've gotten myself into a silly situation.

I came in to the US from Canada on a K-1 Visa, in Dec 2008. Married Feb '09. I got my 2 yr green card with no prob, but when it came time to get my permanent resident card  we were asked to submit more documentation and then we had to go for an interview. The day after the interview, early March of 2012, I got a letter saying I was approved. Months passed and I never received my green card. I went in to USCIS around this time last year as I was traveling to Canada for my dad's wedding. I filled out the form to request a replacement of my card that I never got. (we did not move in that time so I don't know why I didn't get it). In the meantime she stamped my passport which is good for a year (until Feb 2014) for me to travel.  I got a letter back from USCIS saying that my green card hadn't been returned to them so I must have lost it and needed to fill out the form saying it was lost or stolen, pay the $450. I didn't have that kind of money so I just forgot about it until now.

Now I am planning on going to Jamaica in March for a family wedding. Is that enough time to get citizenship? OR should I suck it up, pay the $450 and ask for a replacement green card, get another stamp in the meantime saying I can travel?

Thanks in advance for any advice in this matter.

CanadaPolice Letter = Criminal Record Check?
Ok, so I'm just beginning my journey, and I was wondering, about the police letter from all places lived since age 16. Its basically a criminal record check right? I just go to the RCMP, tell them I need a criminal record check and that's it?

But here's my other catch. I lived in NYC on a J-1 visa for a couple years (before I even knew my fiance, I met him while I was there). How do I get a criminal record check for the US? Can my fiance go ask for me? Or do I have to make a trip down there? and if I do, who do I ask? NY state police?

thanks in advance for your help.

CanadaRCMP check from 2 provinces?
QUOTE (Kathryn41 @ Apr 23 2008, 12:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
No, the immigration examination is not covered by OHIP so it doesn't make a difference if you have Ontario Health coverage or not - you have to pay for the exam yourself. I don't know if your Alberta health plan will cover it either - I believe it isn't covered by any provincial health plan. What you can do, though, is if you need any of the vaccinations you can get them done before your immigration medical and they should be covered by your provincial health plan. As well, you should be eligible for OHIP by now - there is only a 90 day/3 month waiting period to qualify (unless they changed it recently).

Well that actually makes sense and saves me from needing the OHIP ASAP. (although I figure I should get it anyway)

Do you know how much it cost for the medical? And Where I would get copies of my vaccines if I don't have the little card they are all written on? (I know its somewhere, likely already in NY in my stuff....) but not accessible to me at the moment.

thank you so much star_smile.gif

you can't get your medical done through your regular doctor

it has to be done at approved clinics.
you get the list in your packet 3

and it's not free

------------------------------------------------------------------
yes, there's a fee for the rcmp check

i'm sure someone will post how much it is shortly

i know, i read the packet, there are 2 docs here i can go to , but I still dont have ontario health care, which I thinkI would need dont you think? or would my alberta health care be fine (ive been in ontario since november, no need to see a doc since)
i'm certainly not expecting any of this to be free. its an expensive process!

QUOTE (Len_and_Bren @ Apr 23 2008, 11:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ditto. You can either go to the RCMP detachment or to your local police station (and ask for a Canada wide name check using the CPIC database). Quick tip: if you go to the suburbs, things are usually quicker. I got mine in St. Albert right outside Edmonton in record time smile.gif

thanks, I'm in Ottawa and rely on city bus for transportation, but its going to be a while anyway, since I assume I still need Ontario health care to get the medical examination, which means I have to get it in gear to actually apply for that too.

did it cost anything for the RCMP Check?

Hey guys. I just got my packet three in the mail and I was wondering
I lived in a few different cities in Alberta, as well as now here in Ottawa
If I go to an RCMP here in Ontario, can they do the check for all the cities in Alberta I lived in or do I physically need to go to Alberta to be able to get those done?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Canadai-131 form (Advance Parole)
QUOTE (Carlawarla @ Aug 12 2008, 11:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If there isn't room on the form, I'd just attach a one paragraph explanation that you'd want to be able to travel on AP back to Canada before obtaining your GC to visit family and friends. Don't put down any specific dates or anything.

Why no explanation of dates? what if you need a specific date? I'm not there yet, but I will need to file it for my high school reunion next summer. Or is it a re-usable document? and do you have to file for both after you are already married, or can you do it as soon as you enter the US?

CanadaEverything was fine and then he went back for a visit...
It sounds like a combination of things really.

Obviously as you have said, your mom misses you and your son and she probably feels a little lost and alone without you guys around.

Plus, when your son was on holiday, as you said, living the good life, doing all the fun things he did at home and playing with friends there, and having no routine, that makes it seem like more fun to him that the normal chores and what have you at home. (happened to me as a kid to when i would spend a couple weeks with my grandparents who lived just a few hours away).

If you sat down with your kid and asked him what he seriously thought life would be like if you moved back, and if he still thinks it would be all sunshine and daisies, you need to remind him he would have homework and chores there just as well.

Maybe remind him of the new friends he has made at his school in the US and also the things you can do in the US that there aren't in Canada (like a restaurant or a candy or something that they dont have back home). ( only suggest this since he brought up Timmy's... I think thats one thing we all miss!!! dunno where i'm gonna get my ice-cap fixes!)

I am sure that once school starts up again and he is back into the routine with those friends that he will start to come around.

I think he is old enough for you to explain to him that you made the choice to move because you felt it was the best choice for the family as a whole. And that you still think it is best to stay where you are. Ask him how he thinks you would feel (and act) if you both moved away from your hubby? maybe he would understand that that would make you sad and then you wouldn't be as good of a mommy to him since you were missing your husband a lot. (just a suggestion)

best of luck tho.
