CanadaMontreal Consulat
4-6 months????????? That's RIDICULOUS!!!! That means I can MAYBE count on an interview around next May....Thank goodness we are planning a lae July 2007 wedding! But then again, I'm learning to to not count on anything and promised myself not to send invitation until I have that hot little visa in my hands.

CanadaMontreal Consulat
FINALLY got the word from my fiance that he mailed off the I-129f docs on Friday to VSC!!! :) YEY, we'll finally be in the system.... so I'm just wondering, if we get NO1 by the end of the month, and then another 2-3 months for NO2, how long is it taking MONTREAL Consulat to schedule interviews these days? I did a timeline search on VJ and it says about 2 months, but I thought I read somewhere that they are super slow and taking more like 3-4mth...... to all you Montrealer applicants, how long is the wait for an interview?

Thanks

CanadaEI when your in the US
If I understand correctly, You need to file as soon as you get in the US, but only get paid about 3 months later when EAD is received? If this is the case, I'm definitely making a note of this. I plan on quitting at the very last minute before moving. Might as well work and make some money while I can!

THanks for your post Dom.

yeah, I asked her about that, but she told me that it would be immediately, but from what I have hear on this site, its not until you have your EAD. At least for most.

CanadaPost dated visa
So if I understand correctly, my NOA2 will expire March 7th? So I should get my visa before then, and if I need an extension, the COnsulat will give it to me? The earliest I could get my visa is Feb., cause I don't move to the US til July. Make sense?

The NOA2 is valid for 6 months. This means the Visa must be issued prior to that. However, the consulate can extend the validity if required. They are inclined to do so if they are backed up all to #######. However, what you are talking about is getting an extension now rather than later. Thats more tricky.

CanadaPost dated visa
Ah thanks for all your feedback....I guess I'll see when I get packet 3 and decided how long I should take to send it back. All I know is that I want to be in the US next July, and I thought it was going to take forever to get through each step!

Follow through with the process and go to the interview. When they approve the visa, let them know you would like to postpone the issue date and the reason why. They will let you know the process for sending in your passport for the visa to be issued at a later date.

CanadaPost dated visa
Got our NOA2 yesterday..... in less than 27 days of submission!!!

Of course I am ecstatic, but now I am worried that the process is going to go way faster than I thought and I'll get an interview much sooner than anticipated.

My fiance is being deployed in January and doesn't get back to the US until next July, at which time I plan on moving down there to get married. But at this rate, I may get an interview before xmas and the visa will only be valid for 6 months.....

Does anyone know if the Consulat will post date the visa for later seen the circumstance?

I guess I could always drag my heels after receiving packet 3, and take my sweet time in returning it.....is there a time frame I have to get this sent back?

CanadaAnother vehicle import question
Thanks very much for the info! I'll keep note of the number. The process sounds too easy, I was under the impression that I would have to jump through hoops to do this. I'm going to Virginia so I prob won't be tax exempt. :( On the bright side of things, VA doesn't make you re-take the driver's test, I can simply give them my ON license in exchange for a VA one.

Does anyone know if it will be a problem if someone else drives my car down for me? As long as I have the DOT doc I should be ok, right?

I have a 2005 Hyundai Tuscon that I was planning on selling next spring before moving to the US. However, if I don't sell it, I was going to get my cousin to drive it down for me a few weeks after I move.

The truck will be over 2 years old by then, does that mean I won't have to pay duty? Also, because it might be my cousin driving it through POE and not me, can I simply deal with all the registration and ownership stuff locally later when I get my truck. Oh ya, it will be paid off too cause I am aware you can 't bring a vehicle over with a car lien.

In Dec 05 I brought over my 2001 sunfire when I moved to the US. It was easy to do. You can call vintage vehicle Services at 1800-467-6853 give them 80$ on visa and your vin # of the car and they will fax you a report that it meets the DOT and saftey standards. They will then send you a copy in the mail. You need this copy when you cross the border. At the border they will ask you the value of the car. Tell them Low$ as this is the price that the state will claim taxes on. If you go to Georgia like me there is no tax!!! didnt pay anything but 20$ for my plates! Anyway you need to show the tag and title office a copy of the letter from the VVS in order to get your new plates and title. By the way you may need to redo your drivers test. I had to0 in Georgia, the written and the drivers exam. Good Luck

CanadaCustomHouse.com
I just signed up last week and went through the phone interview. It was easy, basic security checks. For reference, I just put my bank's name and they were fine with that.

I'm just waiting to get the go-ahead so I can start transferring $$$ now! Hopefully it works as good as flames has been saying! :D

Call them!! I just completed a trade this morning!!

CanadaCustom House --Good to know
Hey Scott,
Funny that I was just reading your post. Last night I finally managed to get my account with customhouse all set up and initiated my first transfer of funds into a US account. Custom house did mention to me that sometimes my CDN bank may take some sort of fee for the transaction.....I guess this was the case for you! Can you tell me which bank you are with? I'm with PC Financial and wondering if I'm going to get dinged with the transaction fee I thought I was going to be saving by going with customhouse.

By the way, I'm super impressed with customhouse customer service so far.... now lets see if my funds get to my US acct without a hitch!

Oh ya, and thanks again for suggesting this company, if all works well I'll be using them lots!

Tanya

Little bit of a suprise this morning. Log into my Cdn bank account and see an amount less than what I expected!!! Last Friday I started a trade with Custom house for a decent amount of $$ (cashed in RRSP's) SO when one does that, they sometimes contact your bank and verify the funds are in the account. Problem there is that sometimes your bank will charge YOU a fee for that service. In my case a $16.50 fee!! Not a big deal, but on completion of my transferer I was only leaving in $5.00, thus that $16.50 really screws me!! lol Hopefully my parents canget to the bank first thing this morning and deposit another $20 before Customhouse transfers the $$. Not sure what wil happen otherwise, I'm sure they will be fees to be paid!! On the bright side my bank is returning the $16.50 fee, but it takes 2-5 business days!! So keep that in mind if your transferring large amounts of $$$. I transferred over a few thousand $$ before with no problems. When in doubt, maybe best to conact customhouse. Scott

CanadaWhat to Expect in Coming Months
Hi Jessica,

I know everyone's timelines are different and each case has a life of it's own, but MOZPLAY and I sent our I129 at the same time and our petition was approved (NOA2) in less than 1 month. We are now simply waiting on Package 3 and it's waiting for the interview that seems to take 2-4 months. Hopefully this gives you a better idea of what to expect in terms of time frame. Bear in mind we also didn't get any RFE's.

You are lucky, filing via Vermont is a great bonus!!!

Good luck!

Hey guys, Happy Thanksgiving... I'm getting ready to head out to the airport this afternoon to be with my fiance in Virginia (with a very thick folder showing ties to Canada!!!). I'm not counting on having a turkey  unless Sean brings me to Denny's for a turkey sandwiche... lol
Regardless, I am willing to sacrifice a Thanksgiving holiday with my family to be with my hunny :P Have a great weekend everyone and talk to you all when I get back!

CanadaTitre for Medical
Hey gang

I just got back from my family physician's office (here in Ottawa) and told her I needed a titre for the required vaccinations. I had to pay $25!!!!!! #######??? Has anyone else had to pay to get this done? I mean, really, I would think that in Ontario we pay enough taxes for healthcare that they don't have to nickel and dime for such things.

She also gave me a vaccination record that I had my tetanus shot a few years ago. Is this all I need? Gosh, it's fee after fee.... I can't believe my medical is going to cost $285.... and they specified it had to be cash. How much of that do you think goes in their pocket!?

Do I sound frustrated yet? lol Anyway, medical is scheduled for Nov 15th...they said I don't need the interview letter since I don't have it yet, I just need to bring a copy of the checklist that has the file# on it.

Come on Montreal, start sending out Packet 4 to those of us waiting!!!

As far as I am aware, Canadian credit doesn't give you anything in the US!! I looked into this a while back and basically you have to start from scratch. Getting on your fiance's credit card is a good way to start, or open a joint account. :P

Mine is YELLOW- lol

GOt it at the COmmissionaire's office and it just says "Canadian Police Certificate" for EMployment, Visa applicants..... and although I ordered it in Ottawa, it came from Charlottetown, PEI. ?

Obviously there is no "standard", just depends on where you get it.

CanadaVisiting
We see each other once a month and the last 4 times, I flew down to see him. The Immigration officers never once gave me a hard time. Asked lots of questions about where I worked who I was visiting and where I was going. Most of the time they were more interested in what my fiance did for a living, last time when I told them he was an Officer in the Navy stationed in Norfolk and getting ready to deploy in January for 6 months he said something like "Good luck with that and God Bless". Weird.... The Ottawa border patrol are always really nice to me and even joke around which I find a relief! Oh and one of the guys asked me if I was bringing him any gifts and I was like......"ugh, no but now I feel bad cause you asked me that question, I better go to the duty free and get him something." LOL

I always travel with a thick folder with TONS of papers showing ties to Canada (my mortgage papers, letter from employer, paycheck stub, insurance docs, N0A2..... but never had to show anything).

I was able to schedule the interview without the letter. But I do need to bring the letter that came in Packet # which has the file # on it. I think it's just cause they need the reference to to the file.

Mind you, my apt is Nov 15 and if I go there and they say, "sorry, we need to letter" I am sooooo going to flip out!!!

CanadaJust had the medical this morning
Well, I just got back from my medical and all I can say is that those were 2 hrs in my life that I will never get back! Sigh.. :P

There were a million papers to fill out, then went to get blood tests done, (HIV &VDRL) then chest x-ray then back to the office to see the Dr for my apt. Had to strip and slip into one of those lovely paper gowns. She checked, vision, eyes, ears, throat, breast exam, reflexes, made sure I was female (no internal exam), took height and weight. I couldn't find my record of the first series of tetanus so she gave it to me for an extra cost of $10. And that was it! It went well, apart from the fact that I am an impatient person and hate waiting around....

I was there for exactly 2 hrs and it cost me $295 plus $13 parking. UGH. Just the price we have to pay to be with our loved ones!

Good luck to you all going for your medical apt. :P

I'm hoping Trailer park Boys the movie comes to the DC area!!!

CanadaPassport photos "too old"???
For I129f application, definitely must be within 30 days. However, when you get closer to interview date and you need like 4 or 5 identical pics for medical, interview etc.... then it doesn't have to be within 30 days, as long as they are all identical.

I had my medical without packet 4. However, I did need packet 3 and the case #. They wouldn't release the results until the official packet 4 arrives, i just have to fax it over and can go pick up the "envelop". I think every physician works differently.

Anybody else out there a petitioner in the military? I'm just wondering if supplying a LES doc is sufficient for the affidavit of support (proof of income). Or does he still have to get an employer letter and/or letter from the bank? We had the Affidavit notarized on the weekend no problemo, free of charge by the legal admin officer on the ship

Thank you!

CanadaCan't find my NO2!!!
He's not back from deployment until next July. For some reason I thought I needed it at the interview cause it expires on Jan 7/01 and the would extend it for me there. I'm guessing my interview will be late Jan or early Feb at this point. Hopefully I don't need the original and a copy will be sufficient, cause honestly if my fiance has the original, it's probably lost by now!!!

Well you dont have your interview yet right ? When will he return from deployment? Theres nothing that says it's required to have the NOA2 for the interview....so try and breathe easy. It'll all work out fine Im sure.

Arrrgh, just what I need, usually I am so organized I cant believe this, and asking my fiance to look for it at home is pretty much hopeless cause he is on deployment right now!!!Also, I remember that it expires in Jan or Feb so the Consulat will need to extend it. Help anyone???
