Can they not just send a new certified record of your birth with an official statement saying why it's in that form? If they know it was lost then, then they know you're birth info obviously. I'd try calling again and make sure you speak with someone in charge... sounds a bit silly doesn't it?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 Stolen

It is slightly less ridiculous than carrying around your original NOA2. Pay the fee, get the document, you will need it. Keep it in a safe place. If you feel some need to carry it around...don't. Make a copy. NO ONE needs the original for anything in this process.

Why is it when people make irresponsible mistakes they think that what they must do to correct their error is "nonsense"?

I was recommended by others to carry around the original since I have no ties to Canada and needed strong evidence. Also, I was leaving from NY to go to my medical in Montreal and so wanted to bring it with me. My vaccination docs luckily weren't in my laptop case. I also just received my interview date with Montreal for next Friday.

Your comment is quite insulting as well saying that my choices are ridiculous. You don't know me and don't know why I was bringing the docs with me. It would be one thing if I left it somewhere while just going out and about but I was traveling TO the US and needed some papers in case I was pulled over for secondary questioning. If you have nothing of value to say, don't bother posting to someone's thread. It's a lot easier to just type nothing.

Thanks to all for the sympathies, its just a crappy situation. I tried everything I could while on the phone with USCIS but I think I will call again now that we have a confirmed interview date. Good luck to everyone else with the rest of your journey!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 Stolen
No the hotline is useless haha. We spoke with claims here so that is our only hope is that the Colonel sees our case fit for paying me back what was stolen. I've mailed off a request for expedite AND a request for the fees waived, so we'll see how that goes.

Really feeling like the government doesn't help out those of us who are trying to do right. We would of done this last year but my fiance left for Iraq, and I went w/ the Canadian Forces to do a civilian contract with Joint Task Force Afghanistan. Guess we're paying for not going with our original plan and heading to the desert instead huh?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 Stolen
I am about to loose it.

The NOA2 is needed for the interview, which I expect to be in about 2 months or so (I hope)... but I was going to bring it to the medical because I never received my notice from NVC. It takes CSC at least 3 MONTHS to file a I-824 (replacement I-797 aka NOA2). The fee IS $340, and if you want that waived you need to send a waiver request and in my case she said, an expedite request to Chicago. IF the waiver request is denied then you still need to go through CSC for a new copy. This is absolutely ridiculous. These items were stolen from a US Army base, I did not lose them or was negligent.

Every single person on this base (even up the chain of command) has been urging us to skip the Visa and just have me move here and we marry and file for AOS, it's how everyone else has done it and they all were approved no problem. But me being a good person and all wanted to do this the right and legal way and now I'm just getting effed over big time. Sad part is this is just the next piece of bad news in a string of bad news we've been getting over the last 4 days.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 Stolen
Hello,

My bag was stolen over the weekend while visiting in the US and the original NOA2 was in it. My fiance called USCIS and they explained we had to go to their site and fill out the I824 and mail it to them... however it says the fee is $340. That just seems ridiculous. Has anyone else needed a replacement copy and can add some advice? We already lost $2000 in property and important documents for my Visa and my medical is next week so I don't have time for this re-filling non-sense.

Thank you!

I had my NOA2 on July 1 as well and it was in the hands of NVC and sent to my consulate within 7 days. I'd call them.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQUESTION ABOUT NOA2
It all depends on where you sent it, like someone mentioned, right now VSC is faster, but a few months ago CSC was faster. It also depends on the couple. Some cases are easier to approve than others. All depends on how quickly your background can be checked, where you've lived etc... if either of you have been married before, applied for Visa's before... all those minor details can add up.

Being in the military does not make it faster. My fiance is in the military as well and ours got approved in the expected time frame... which was a little over 2 months at the time. In our case neither of us was previously married, both lived and grew up in one city our whole lives with clear background checks.

I would scheduale a medical sooner because if you do it on the 18th the results wont be ready till 12 on the 20th OR go into Montreal a bit early...Medisys can proly get them faster and then you would already be in Montreal...plus they are like $60 cheaper than Dr Seiden

sorry i shouldve said Congrats...kinda bummed that I dont have one yet....but you do deserve some good news after the week youve had....Congrats!

I left a msg for the woman at Dr. Seiden's that I'll need my results sooner. I will also call Medisys and see if I go on Wed, can I get my results the same day.

and no worries... I totally get the being bummed thing. It was a HORRID week and it's still haunting us but we're doing everything we can. Good luck on getting a date soon.

I think as long as you can get a co-sponsor you will be fine. People who know you would technically know the kind of money you make and that as a co-sponsor there isn't much risk for them involved.

I know any little snag is heart wrenching but I think you'll be ok. Just needs a little creative thinking. I wish you the best!

CanadaAnyone feel like they've made a huge mistake?

People dont realize how hard it is on the one moving. I know yall think Canada is all wonderful but let me tell you something. People in Canada can be just as mean as they are in they US! I came from a town of 1200 people and moved to a city with over 1.2million people. I like some Canadians. I like some Americans. But no one can say "all americans are this or all canadians are that" and it infuriates me in an immigration thread people are acting like they can

I totally agree with that. I find too often, in general (not speaking of the forum), people seem to stereotype citizenships. I blame it on their individual lack of intelligence. One of my fiance's unintelligent acquaintances thinks its funny that every time I am talking about something that is disagreeing with what someone else said, or anytime I make a joke he somehow feels the need to point out 'This is AMERICA' and try and make some lame joke. Luckily since he is so unintelligent it's not hard to have a come back. The guy is alright, but his jokes are horrible. I get it all the time when I am in the US, like I am sure most of you do. Everyone is very interested to know about Canada and welcome me with open arms. In general I find Americans very friendly, and at the same time I find many Canadians to be very unfriendly.

When my USC fiance comes to Canada he gets the same unintelligent jokes said to him. Because he's from the US they expect him to act or be a certain way, and he is not. So it works both ways regardless. It is not the countries fault, but specific people. Both countries have their pros and cons, and we're lucky enough they are so close together and have the freedom to move around.

On a similar note I'll tell you I have travelled the world and it's not a North American thing. It's every where, it's life and all we can do is chose how to deal with it. I chose to do so with a light heart.

CanadaAnyone feel like they've made a huge mistake?
I just wanted to tap into one of the comments above, about an American moving to Canada too... currently we are applying for me to live in the US. I have no concerns or doubts for many reasons. 1. I'll be living 2hrs from my home in the Great White North 2. I've already spent SO much time where my fiance lives and already have my own friends there and 3. I will only be in the US for 3-5 years... but I still understand what you all are saying. I've mentally prepared myself as much as I can, and I think that's the best we can all do. One thing I have noticed a lot of you say is that you do not tell your spouses all the details about how you feel... wether it be embarrassment of guilt for making them feel bad. I urge you to talk to your spouses about how you are feeling. If they don't know they can't help you make it better. Sure they can't pull a perfect job and all your best friends next door out of a hat but at least put it out there. They knew when they married you all that you were giving up a lot.

Now back to an American moving to Canada. Once my fiance is done with the military and schooling our plan is to come back to Ottawa. I have a family with a successful business here that I will be joining and we view the value of that. Economically, it also makes the most sense. The Nations Capital is never his has hard when the economy takes a dive. We've talked through and through about the struggles HE will have when he moves here. His friends from where he is now in Fort Drum will be gone so the only people he will know are the friends I already have. Luckily he loves them and they love him. His family will be a 8 hr drive away still... and the biggest problem is the city is bilingual and he is not. After his tour in Iraq he acknowledged the fact that he will have a harder time adjusting to life in Canada than in a completely foreign country. Our countries are SO similar, yet at the same time so different. Some people obviously get affect in different ways and for different reasons.

All I can say though after reading all your valuable words though is to please just speak with your partners about what you are feeling. You need to communicate these details. Out of respect for yourself, your partner and your relationship. No matter what they will always be by your side and I am sure will do anything possible to help lessen the burden.

xo

CanadaAnyone feel like they've made a huge mistake?
I agree with the others that you do need to talk to a professional... if you can't afford one and the people around all know you maybe there is a help line or something you could call, or create your own support group with people you meet that are going through similar things. I don't know what your dream is either but if you've exercised every possible option at reaching it and keep missing, look at what else there is. Find something to make your own. I don't have enough experience of knowledge on the subject itself, I am still in the beginning stages and where I will be moving is only 2hrs from my home in Canada, and I know the area and people very well.

I wish you the best and hope things only get better for you.

CanadaAP question
That's horrible! I would also suggest to just email them everyday (on top of having his senator call in). My fiance is military too and just returned from deployment and we got that to approve our expedite... however it goes with saying we did email them daily from his US Army Forces account. They always answered the same day. Don't wait, have you fiance email them from his account ASAP and explain the urgency in this situation.

Haha well I hope I have a more pleasant experience! I am a pretty frank and forward person so I am not worried about them trying to tell me what I want. I spoke with a lady on the phone and she was very nice and helpful... as for my bridesmaids they are not tall and we are leaning towards a knee length dress for them anyways. I am the tallest of the girls and I don't plan on wearring big heels. I wouldn't wear any at all but my fiance is 6'3" and so a small heel makes it easier to kiss him haha. We may get their dress elsewhere but just want to check it out. I might just buy my dress online but at this point I have no idea what I want so the goal is to try stuff on and find out what I want.

I loooove the idea of getting the hem altered to make it perfect for your beach wedding!

Mine is long, with a chapel train. Here it is! It's not super ball-gown-ish, considering we're going fairly small, but I love it!

I love your dress! I like how soft and flowy it looks. I'm going to David's Bridal with my bridesmaids on Saturday. I hope I find something.

My SO is in Georgia, I'm in Halifax. He can't come for the interview as he's saving vacation days to move me down. HOPEFULLY i'll get a late-week interview as I'm hoping to schedule the medical and interview the same week to avoid the cost of going to Montreal twice. Is there a valid reason why you can only do your medical in Toronto or Montreal??

US Immigration approved clinics is all... they chose, we follow :)

I think there is a small explanation in packet 3, at least in mine there was.

I know he doesn't have to be there for the interview, but we meant so that I can have my Visa in hand and move while he was still on leave (I am moving the day I get my passport back). So that way he is there and we can get a place, move, marry... you know, all that silly stuffs.

... to add. He doesn't 'get' vacation days. The Army doesn't work like that. He can request leave but not after he just had block leave, and not if they have training. Word is there will be lots of training for a while as soon as leave is over. They don't care if you are getting married or having a baby, if your mother is dying. They will only work with you to a certain extent.

AHHHH I know the feeling, good old wedding date on the run trick. I probably won't get an interview in a while but I'd like to follow along... cause when you guys are done, I'm up! Sent our P3 on July 28 and have spoken with the consulate via email since regarding our file... if any of you have seen me around the forum you'll know we requested an expedite since my fiance is in the military and has a limited window of free time till he has to come and go on an undetermined schedule... haha long story. Anyways, Montreal is aware of our case and gave us the good old 'we will give you an interview as soon as possible' line. The have not responded to our last email, so I doubt we'll gain much out of it.

I can't wait for the next K1er to get an interview date. It's been since June that someone's been issued a date.

Ya I think they were just trying to make a little extra dough. I'm annoyed because it means a road trip when I'd rather just go locally but in the end it'll save me a lot of trouble and I can get it done a LOT sooner.

$35? NICE! They (CS in Syracuse, good ones) said that regardless they book everyone two appointments and assume they have not had a TB test done. This was *just* in case they are not satisfied with the documents then there is no hold backs. If everything is good 2nd appointment is cancelled. Total fee for both appointments is $160. She then explained if I do have everything good to go then they just look over it and sign for it like you mentioned. I didn't ask if I still need to pay the $160 in that case...

Sounds like everything is making sense now.

Thanks so much everyone!

CanadaCivil Surgeon for Med Docs
Ya it seemed really odd... I called around and am going to go just over an hour out of town to meet with a different civil surgeon. There was only one in this area. After speaking with the one in Syracuse I told her what the one in Watertown said and she confirmed what I thought. I DO have everything I need and more she said and will be fine... and on top of that my appointment is in less than two weeks which is much better.

I think I may call back and tell them that they are wrong or perhaps make a complaint through the civil surgeon locator on USCIS advising they are misinforming potential clients. It's too bad because I really wasn't in the mood for another road trip haha.

CanadaCivil Surgeon for Med Docs
Hey guys!

So the wedding went great (will post pics soon) and we are currently working on the AOS stage. Both my fiance and I have been sick for the past couple days so I am now on it. My main issue it having my medical docs certified by a civil surgeon (I-693). When I called the local civil surgeon everything she told me was different than what VJ and USCIS website says. She says they cannot go over tests/records taken by Dr. Seidens (or however you spell it) but I need to bring them in anyways. The Dr in MTL gave me a CD to give to the civil surgeon when I come to this stage but now I am told they do not accept CD roms and I need to print out everything that is on the cd. She was also mentioning some immunizations I have never heard of. IE she told me the seasonal flu vaccine was one of them. I told her this is not a mandatory vaccine and I do not believe in taking it because I have been in clear health for over 8 years. Prior to that when I took the vaccine I always ran into numerous health issues and have never had problems since I stopped taking it. She then said we can get around it. She also said I need the 'pneumonia' vaccine, which I have never heard being mandatory and do not feel I need to get. I have had over 30 vaccines for various things because of my work but these are the only two she mentioned to me that I don't have, and they seem incorrect. She also stated I needed a TB test (had that done last month so am fine) and have the chest xray. Blood test to check for syphilis which I believe was done in MTL but she said I need to get it done again... I don't know but is it just me or is this chick misinformed? I thought if we had the medical done we do not need to have everything done again, just show proof it was done.

Can anyone offer any insight? They also don't have any appointments available for almost 2 months which is way too long so I need to travel a few hours and try elsewhere.
