Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 February Filers, 2013

Why would the DMV not issue you a DL based on the 2 year GC?  I find this strange.  The only reason I could think of is the expiration date, but why not issue you a DL that expires when the 2 year GC expires?

Congrats on the approval and hope you do get your DL,

Dave

I was applying for the first time with the extension letter and almost expired GC. It's a hit and miss at most DMVs. I even got a stamp but now no need for it!

Congrats

So the website updated for your case?

Yes! To think, I was only checking casually.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 February Filers, 2013

I applied on February 12, 2013 by CSC and I just got approved yesterday on June 25, 2013!

This is so cray-cray! I was thinking I've at least 4 or 5 more months to go! How come they approved me so fast?? I should receive my new card tomorrow!!! YAY!! Now the DMV should hopefully give me a license!

Philippinesfiancée engagement ring
I'm not sure about the Philippines, but when my fiancé came to Egypt with 3 rings, all for me, he didn't pay anything cause they're his, he was only asked why he has many rings and he just said I'm proposing to my girlfriend, there was no problem.

PhilippinesStranger things have been said...BUT
I'm sorry about what happened, it's a shame that until this day and age people still stereo-type others, people who do this are uneducated and arrogant. Just like there is a lot of discrimination against African Americans (not THAT much in the US anymore) there are discriminations against Asians and every group in the world.

Why do you care what THEY said? The only person you need to worry about is your fiancee, you don't have to defend yourself or prove anything. When things like this happen, just ignore it and save yourself the headache. Haters will be haters just because they wanna seem like they're better than others. Ignore them.

Best of luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSecond time around
I'm not an expert, but wouldn't it be a little strange to the immigration center for you to file for another visa for another woman from the same country after your divorce?

They might think it's a fraud marriage...

An advice from me, since your first marriage went bad, consider really taking things slow with Anna. You don't want another divorce I'm sure.

Good luck.

Middle East and North AfricaFamily B-2 Interview at Cairo Consulate
Hey Hun,

I think they just have to prove why they're visiting, show proof when will they go AND return (like plane tickets or so)
and show strong family ties ( college; your brother must get "Shehadet keed" from his university, jobs proof, house deeds, cars, any payments and reasons they have to go back to Egypt)
and off course they should give them like a balance sheet of their bank account to prove that they can afford to stay.

Maybe get a copy of your visa or something to prove they're just going to be there for your wedding.

Best of luck, hope it goes really well!!!

Middle East and North AfricaFamily B2 Visa Denied
That's so bad.. I'm terribly sorry...

One reason they could have been denied is your invitation letter; my cousin got denied for a visa before because he wrote in his application a friend's address that he'd be staying at; so they thought that maybe he would go there and stay over at his friend's place and never get back.

That's why I told Joe that I don't want him or his family writing my parents invitation letters and they will put a hotel address in the place they'll be staying at.

I'm really sorry, go ahead and get married though, before the visa expires, and you can have a family wedding anytime after that, you can get an advance parole or something and have a wedding in Egypt.

Maybe (but thats just my interpretation) it's good for 3 months in EGYPT, but good for one year in the US, just like the medical exam. It's only a guess though.

Middle East and North AfricaPolice Certificate Expiration
Hey All! Happy Wednesday!

I'm a K1 beneficiary from Egypt.
Today I went to get my police certificate, they told me I'll get the instant one (you get it after 3-4 days) and it costs more.

Anyway, the certificate said in English and in Arabic, "Expires in 3 months"

I heard they are usually good for one year, right? So Am I going to be in trouble if it expires before I travel to the US?

Thanks a bunch!

Middle East and North AfricaEgypt and Magicjacks
John paid to send via UPS, and you paid to receive it? that sounds really silly.

About the magic-jack, I know A LOT of people who have it and it's so easy to use and so simple (you plug one end in your USB and the other in the phone, just bring it with you, don't send it (hide it in your bag)

The software installs itself as soon as you plug it in (no CD needed or so)

Here's a picture:

I'm greenparot's fiancée :)

The posts here are really one of the worst jobs, the woman who talked to me (off-course after I went all the way down to that horrible neighborhood) was ultra nice and told me to sign up for it to be returned back to the US, otherwise they'd make me pay just bec I "opened" the package, and they won't give it to me anyway bec, Telecommunication will lose money if everyone called for free, and that woman told me :"I myself use magicjacks!"

Greenparot also sent me some gifts last Christmas, it was a small box, and they made me pay 100 LE ($20) just to receive it.

That's why I told my fiancé lets use DHL to send me my packets for the interview, or any other carrier that doesn't require it to pass by Egypt post.

My advice: Always bring ANYTHING with you when you travel to Egypt, don't use the mail unless you really must.

Yea, they have like a mini bank at window #4. Screen all the windows and try to know where all windows are while you wait so you can run right at it!

Relax, smile and be at ease at the interview, you got nothing to worry about.

Sounds great! Looks like you got everything ready, send him an originals (for ex. your original divorce decree if you've been divorced before)

About the fees, I paid about $140 at CIB bank, and on my interview date, right before my interview, I paid $219 (He can pay with dollars or pounds) and I paid LE 75 at the DHL branch they have.

Let me know if you have more questions! :)

Good luck.

Middle East and North AfricaTiming of interview
I sent them packet 3 about 10 days after they sent it to me ( I worked on it pretty hard, but you guys can take your time, a friend of mine sent it a month later) and 3-4 days later, they sent me packet 4, saying my interview is in a week. It moved super quick for me, but normally it's slow. It might be slower now that we are in the summer and they're pretty booked with people who want to visit the US. September is only 2 weeks away, so don't worry, just working on packet 3 takes a while.

Good luck!

P.S: In packet 3, they state that if you can't be at the interview on the date they specified, you should tell them that ( call or e-mail ) and they will reschedule it for you)

I think i can relate already to your husband. I think i am going to be like that as well and i do have the same opinion about things. The only thing i am going to miss is my family. My poor mom is going to cry her eyes out for months every time she sees my empty room. :crying:

Ahmed, my mom already started to cry even before I travel, just thinking about it, makes her ball her eyes out. Egyptian mothers (L)

Who told you we don't gossip? :D That's pretty much all we do during lunch at the office.

When me and my now, fiancé were still Bf and Gf people would stare at us, it was a taboo to be with a foreigner and act in love, a lot would assume many bad things about us, and my fiancé said he can't wait to put a ring on my finger so no one can misjudge us, and how no one in America would stare at point at you.

There's common, girl gossip everywhere though, it's fun! :P

Middle East and North AfricaAdjusting to America
I like a lot of things about Americans, how they can be nice and let you pass before them at a supermarket, how they don't gossip about everyone, how they are friendly and nice to strangers, no country is perfect really, every country has its good and its bad, it could be hard when you're still not used to it at first, but once you get used to it, it becomes very normal... it doesn't shock me when I see crowded streets here in Egypt!
J&N*FemaleEgypt2010-08-19 12:14:00
Middle East and North AfricaAdjusting to America
I think men are having a harder time than female beneficiaries, being an Egyptian or Arabic woman I could think of why they're having a hard time adjusting, Arabic men like being "in control" and want to be quite the macho man  When I used to go on dates, most of my dates would consider it very rude if I want to pay for my dinner for example.

We grew up in societies where men are always the leaders, bread winners, and very independent, expecting their wives to depend on them and be led, respecting their men. Also, there are lots of misconceptions about American women, all the freedom and liberty an American woman has. We just have many ideas about how free Americans are, and that worries us. My mom kept asking my fiancé if he has another girlfriend, besides me! She even asked his dad when my in laws visited us. He was like, I can hardly keep up with one!! and my mother in law kept asking "do you have a gf i don't know of??"

Hey meghan!

Sorry your family is pressuring you, but I can definitely see why they're freaking out, it's all the *hiding* you do.

This is a little different from the post, but if you're gonna fast, you might as well do it right, come out from the closet, tell everyone, why do you deny it, if you're convinced and proud of it, right? and you said you wore the veil and took it off? you either wear it and be proud of it, or you don't at all. It is not right to keep wearing it, and taking it off when you want to. I'm sorry but that's the truth.

Best wishes to you!

Middle East and North Africamoving to florida
First of all, Welcome back from your trip, hope you had lots of fun!

I'm about to move to Melbourne, Florida, about 45 mins away from Orlando, my fiancé loves it, it is very hot and humid and rains a lot though, more humid than Alexandria, Egypt.

And I know that the job hunt there is really hard, it took my fiancé month and month to find a job when he was moving down from Alabama, he had to settle for a lower paying job in Florida, but the cost of living and housing prices went down so that's a good thing.

However, everyone who has been in FL loved it and is charmed by the place.

Do what the other members said, look for jobs online and start applying, you might want to write in your application that you live in Florida otherwise they could filter your application (happened with my fiancé)

I'll ask him to send you and explain to you as he recently moved to FL 4 months ago.

Best of luck!

I'm REALLY happy for you Aya!!
It's smart of you to begin collecting everything you need and getting all set up for the wedding so you can begin on your AOS asap,

Sucks that you lost those documents... hopefully they will be found, or else you can get new extracts/translations. I'm sure it won't be too hard

Don't worry, isA it'll be fine and it'll all workout!

I'll be crossing my fingers for you!

Buy a wedding dress already!

BTW, I read here somewhere that you can translate your own Birth Certificate, look into that!

Umm.. there's no expiry date to file for the AOS, as long as you marry within the 90 days, you're good. You really messed up between the two! He shouldn't have left the US without an advance parole or Green Card. I don't know what could you do to bring him back... I just wanted to clarify that he did NOT have to leave whatsoever. There are people here who adjusted a YEAR later!

I'd make an appointment and go to the embassy and check this thing out, I know it sucks but what other options you have? Better than being at the border and get denied. I'm sorry you're going through this, but what happened has happened and you can't go back in time, just try to find out how to salvage the situation... I hope it'll be resolved and I don't think you need to re-do the whole thing. I know when some people mistakenly rip their brown envelope they take it to the embassy and they fix it for them.
