CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

My RFE is in for further review because the CO is blind.

They're requesting two things:

1) According to the CO, my country of domicile wasn't listed. Being a VJ member, I made two copies of my package on the day I sent it to NVC. My country of domicile is indeed listed.

2) On my co-sponsor's I864, they're claiming that the household should be 3, that my co-sponsor is married. Well, no, she was widowed in February.

No worries, Mal. You just have to go back and forth with them until they understand what's going on. I had to resend my DS-230 because I printed up the PDF and I couldn't type "Present" at my present residence, so I left it blank -- they didn't like that.

My legal team even got into a verbal yelling match with one of the NVC operators because we followed the I-864A information according to NVC instructions to the letter -- only to have them say our household information was wrong. So, they literally told us to send the form in, SCRIBBLE OUT a few portions of it, and then once we write information over that, they'll accept it (which they did). They also requested information from us that people previously didn't have to present until the interview (they said they were able to take pretty much everything in now).

It can be a pain going back and forth with the NVC, but at least when the case is complete they have all the information they need. I haven't seen my poor long form birth certificate for months; I think he's definitely overstayed! haha

lol looking at that list I don't know what to think. I called up like I said any they said no interview on their system but call back in a week, but I'm hearing that they're saying October scheduling is complete. Congrats Steve on your interview; I'm hoping I'm going to be very soon. What I'm not understanding is how someone who had their case completed two months after mine has an interview in early October (congrats on such luck though!), and someone who was finished just over a week before me has an interview, but the Dawg here is still waiting for his bone!

I hope I haven't fallen through the cracks... I'll know something's up if I don't get one in November if I don't get an October date.

Question for Steve -- did you get email confirmation or did you just call up? I don't know where to look first for my interview date.

Hey Dawghouse, I thought that I may have fallen through the cracks, too, but I think we're in the same boat (and they can't misplace TWO, right?). I did e-mail the NVC on Thursday, saying it's been a long time since they completed my case and I still don't have an interview, but they haven't answered yet. I'll post it here if they do. I think that Sierra did online submissions for Montreal (they only recently started that), so perhaps that is why the interview was scheduled earlier. Just a guess, but I agree that it doesn't make sense that they haven't scheduled all of June, yet started on August. Hopefully, we'll be scheduled soon!

I hope so! Your case history and mine are actually VERY similar. My case was delayed because they didn't quite understand the AOS situation, and had to resend a couple forms with the amended information they told us to fill out because of the conflicting information on the NVC Web site (basically right information, wrong way to put it on). We paid everything online right when they told us to, so it actually was going fairly quickly. It's really only the waiting for the interview that's been as long as waiting for USCIS accepting the petition.

I called up, and the guy (overjoyed at his job heh) said that his system said I wasn't scheduled but to call back in a week because it may change.

Just a tip for everyone: give nvc your email address. It'll give you notice of what's going on a few days in advance.

Other than that, enjoy montreal when you go. I was gonna go to concordia a few years ago myself. Take the metro to place des armes if you want to do some shopping. Ste catherine street has everything you'd want. I think they closed the move theater that was downtown, but I haven't been to montreal for a few years.

Most hotels are blocks frm the consulate. Cheap skates like me have the travelodge a few blocks away with a st hubert restaurant down the street.

I for one appreciate our NVC overlords and hope to wait even longer be... Phew they're gone!

Waiting sucks, but we all have to. I'm going nuts with the wait, but I thank god that I'm not waiting in a dangerous third world country for the gift of american-style freedom and the gift of being with my wife and kid.

I fell in love with two ladies when I went to visit my now wife the first time -- my wife and lady liberty.

Just a little bit longer boys and girls, then we ca start our lives again with our families in the u.s.

Trailmix, the NOA2 was December 4th, 2008. BUT, we waited about 3 months before sending stuff off to the NVC; partly because our lawyer said we had to wait for the forms to be sent to us (they didn't - as soon as we paid the fees we could download the forms - one wonders what we're paying her for . . .). And partly because I wanted my 2008 tax return in there. So it's not a realistic timeline. We originally filed the I130 in May 2008.

Wow these lawyers are bad.

But anyway, let's assume that they scheduled your interview for October 4th - that would be 122 days between completion at NVC and your interview. If you look at the timeline table you won't see anyone here that has waited that long.

In fact, that type of wait time hasn't been seen here since January of 2008.

If I were you I would call the NVC and ask to speak to a supervisor - as in put me through to one now please. The wait time is not normal and I would be concerned that you are being overlooked for some reason.

The wait certainly sucks. I've been waiting since June 19th for my interview. I called the NVC today and they said they're done scheduling for September. We filed the I-130 and everything in mid-June 2008, so I'm getting pissed off with the whole process! Not to mention that the whole case was delayed because the NVC said the AOS was all filled out wrong -- regardless of the fact we filled it and had our lawyer check it according to their own instructions. According to what they told my legal representation, they're changing the way they're getting the cases together for the consulates where everything gets submitted via NVC as opposed to the beneficiary bringing everything to the interview. So for everyone who actually calls up and gets told they have no interview, you never know -- they may just send you an email a week later telling you to haul it to the consulate!

All this is giving me sleepless nights and affecting my general mood in a big way. I just want it to be done with so I can be with my wife and newborn.

Hey there all; I'm new on this site, but I'm definitely no stranger to USCIS/NVC! I met my wife (the USC) over the Internet about two or so years ago. One thing led to another and I married her after being engaged for about six or so months and going back and forth. We filed at the start of June 2008, and it went to the VSC and then the CSC finished it off. I have a NEXUS card, so I was going back and forth on visits until January. Our daughter was born in May, but I haven't risked going back because I don't want to complicate this further by a denied entry! We talk on video on Skype every day, so it's all good.

I don't know if it would be useful to add me to that little spreadsheet, but here's my info as I can remember it. I can't remember the exact dates for some things, but this is the best I can manage without having the stuff in front of me:

NOA1 - June 27, 2008

NOA2 - February 2009

Case at NVC - May 2009

Done at NVC - June 19, 2009

Interview - TBD

POE - Buffalo - TBD

For those who have had the relief of being done this phase, I have a question. We went through a lawyer to do our case, and it's all set and done. I'm assuming that if the case is complete at NVC and they've approved it at USCIS beforehand, all the interview is is a formality to actually see me and gauge if I'm legit or not as well as have me supply any extra documentation they need. Is this roughly accurate?

I'm pretty familiar with Montreal, plus I have a buddy of mine who lives an hour and a half from the city just outside of Cornwall, so that's a bonus to visit my buddy the day before the interview!

I can't wait until all this waiting is over. Hopefully tomorrow I find out if I've gotten an interview scheduled for September!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion regarding POE

While there is always a possibility, the chances are slim.

There was a Canadian who was denied entry with their immigrant visa because the consulate mistakenly issued them a visa when it shouldn't have. But again this instance is certianly not the norm.

I'm sure you will be fine, espeically since you were honest and disclosed everything at the intervew

Good luck.

I'm going to be crossing over next week, and then I had to go and read this! lol

What exactly was the situation with that guy?
