The NBI clearance is all that is required. No need to receive clearance from each Province.

I believe this is correct.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLetters from Friends and Family.
What should they include? Just that they've been witness to the both of us in our daily activities, and can attest to our relationship being true & valid? That we're disgustingly lovey dovey, even in public? Do they need to be entire pages? Or just a sentence or two? Ahhhhh!!! Help? I'm sure I'm over thinking this. lol

Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNotifications?
Hello All!

If I am sending my forms to the Portland, Or office, does it then get sent to a Lockbox Facility? Or does it get processed from there? How will I get notifications of the status? Does it all come in the mail? I realize I get a case number and that will be how I can look it all up, but I'm assuming that everything is done via "Snail mail" vs. electronic? I know about the G-1145, but from what I'm gathering, it's only good for 3 Lock Box facilities, so should I even bother filling that out & sending that in?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresco-sponsor
Hey all!
My dad is going to be my co-sponsor and I'm wanting to find out what he'll need in addition to the I-134? Does he need to provide proof of citizenship? And if so, what would that be? Does it need to be a notarized copy of Birth Certificate? Or would a notarized photo copy of his Driver's License and Social Security card suffice?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMore Co-sponsor questions
1) on the I-134, is the co sponsor filling the affidavit out on my behalf (the petitioner) or my fiance's (the beneficiary)?

2) My co-sponsor has naturalization papers, does he need to order another certified copy of his naturalization papers, or would a notarized copy of said papers suffice, since he has to provide his certificate of Citizenship number?

3) If the co-sponsor is filling out the I-134 on *my* behalf, what would his relationship to sponsor be listed as? He is my step-father, so would he list the relationship as: Friend, family friend, future son in law?

Thanks in advance!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresanother co-sponser question
Does the co-sponsor have to provide tax returns for the past 3 years? I know that he makes enough money...more than enough. And he can prove it through pay stubs & bank statements...but are tax returns required (from the co-sponsor)?

Thanks!

Thanks all!!! I got our case # and it was sent to the Consulate on Sept. 28th. :)

How long before my fiance hears from the consulate? Should I be receiving a hard copy from the NVC of our case #? Do I send the I-134 and supporting documents for myself and my co-sponsor to the consulate or to my Fiance?

SOooo many quessssssstiooooooooooooons!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNVC?

As LeftCoastLady said, you will receive a letter from the NVC once the petition is ready to leave to the consulate. It seems like that sometimes takes a while. We got our NVC letter after more than three weeks after NOA2. I know of at least one recent German case where the NVC letter actually arrived AFTER the fiancée in Germany had received Packet 3. You can call them 1-2 weeks after NOA2 though and get your case number. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks. When I did call the USCIS earlier this week and I asked if I could get my case number he didn't have the slightest clue what I was talking about. That said, every answer he did have for me sounded like he was reading from a computer screen. And he kept putting me on hold.

So I could try calling back and finding out what my case number is? Cool. Thanks!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNVC?
Do we receive a notice when our K1 has been sent to/received at the NVC? It's been two weeks today, I spoke with a guy at USCIS who said it could take up to 60 days for it to be sent to the NVC...which blew me away. Has anyone else had it take that long?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe heck?!
Our petition was sent to the Consulate on Sept. 28th. If I'm correct, going off of the instructions on the DHL website, it was signed for on Oct. 1st. Shouldn't we have heard something by now? Is it possible this silence indicates we were sent into AP? :( I called NVC today to find out, was on hold for 20 mins, but had to go to a Dr's appointment, so I had to hang up.

It seems like 10 days is a lot, going off of timelines I've checked out. Am I being over sensitive? I'm a whiny cry baby. I know. I just miss him. Heart, mind, and soul. It's been 1 year, 1 week, and 2 days since I've been in his arms. When I am with him, I feel like I'm home.

Sorry. Off my tangent. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's been almost a month since the I-129F was approved. On the 12th I called DoS and was informed that it was sent from Frankfurt that day. My Fiance lives only 2.5 hrs/3 hrs from Frankfurt. He's still not heard anything. Is there anything more I can do?

Thanks,

If I wanted to make sure the petition I sent wasn't lost, how would I do that? An InfoPass?

You just filed the petition last month, You need to give them some time to process it. I would recommend reading other timelines so you know how long it will take. Relax and enjoy the ride... lol patience

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTS clearance

Hello everyone. I have a question. I am currently submitting a K1 Visa petition and I am wondering if I can expect problems because I currently hold a TS (Top Secret Clearance) for my Job. Does anyone have any experience or advice then can give me in a situation like this? My Fiance is Chinese. We intend on being completely honest about everything. Will we be denied because I hold a TS clearance? Is it possible I can loose my Job? Thanks again for the expert advice =)

As you know, a TS review could cause you to have questionable approval. You are required to update your security manager of any changes that could be of concern for national security. I would go to that person and ask them how it will impact you and your TS clearance. If I were the SM I would remove the TSC from you until a review could be completed.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust starting the K-1 process. Lawyer needed? Fees?

I'm thinking of becoming a k1 lawyer, exclusively handling straight forward i-129f petitions/AOS. They make a bunch load of money on sending the papers you filled out and documents/evidence you collected for them.
With lawyer, the petition(i-129f, the first stage only) and lawyer fees will cost you.. 3740 dollars or something similar.
Without the lawyer, the petition(i-129f, the first stage only) will cost you.. 340 dollars (plus shipping it through mail). PLus you'll get the notifications directly from USCIS.

When your case is straight forward, save that lawyer fee, put it into an account and use it for the later fees you're going to run into. Medical, a neat honeymoon, AOS, an extra car after arriving in the US, or anything unforseen.

However, if you're more comfortable with having a lawyer, then go for it. From my own personal aspect, I'd be freaking out if somebody else was in control of my immigration journey. If anybody makes a mistake, I'd rather I'd be me not checking a box instead of an attourney.

I never used an Attorney for my petition. I just read a lot and used VJ for help. All the forms are available and easy to fill out. Attention to details is the key to no RFE's, so pay attention to every block on every form.

I would advise just doing it all yourself and forego the attorney and paralegal.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNVC receipt question
We recently received our NOA2. I was wondering, how will we know when the NVC received and then sent our paperwork to the consulate in Manila? Will NVC send me an email, for example Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmbassy receipt of petition from NVC
Hi all. I received the NOA2 and the NVC said the petition was forwarded to the Manila embassy on 8/24/12. I called the embassy to see if they received it. They told me they do not have that information and that the beneficiary would have to wait for the notice to arrive. My question is, how do people obtain the dates they are posting on their timelines for the embassy receipt?

Thanks much

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGot our MNL Case Number!!!

Is there a website or phone number?

The Issuance of the MNL# is all you need to proceed with a Medical, Interview. It is out of the US Hands now until later. You are free to go about your Petition and don't need anything extra for now.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan speed up application to keep family together?

No. You can choose to leave the child with your fiance, or bring her with you and leave her with family, or bring her with you and hire a nanny.

If I was the mother, I would dis-agree with this line of action. The child would be in the US and therefore in Custody of the Petitioner. The petitioner can at any point decide not to follow through.
If I was the Immigrant mom. I would not like this course of action.
Just Me.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan speed up application to keep family together?

But what if my daughter would be seperated from me, the mother? Does that make a difference? Because I need to go to the states for work purposes and I can't take my daughter with me if my fiance isn't with us, as in our case he is the caretaker who stays home with the child. Does that change anything?

No. I'm afraid Not.
What you would be requesting is an Expidite and would not qualify.
Your in it for the Long Run and its hard when you have immediate family.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F package good to go?

I was other the impression that you only needed to copy your entire passport if you are using it as proof of citizenship. (Like, if you don't have a birth certificate for some reason.) I'll copy the rest of it though, just to be sure. Thanks for the advice! :)

A birth Cert is a requirement for a Passport.

They prefer Color Paper Prints and not the real pictures. Date, and tell a small story about the picture: Where you were, who's in the picture. Etc.

Double Check these: G-325-A's are signed in INK.
Passport's in Color/Cover to Cover/EVEN BLANK PAGES.. (And Covers)
Letter of Intent signed in INK
BirthCerts in Best Picture/Preferably Color (Best Copy)
Send 2 Passport Style Photos and not 1. Thats a guess! ( I sent 2 of each of us) attached to the 325.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConfused about K-1

This is from the VJWiki page, about K-1 visas.

U.S. citizens who will be getting married to a foreign national in the United States may petition for a fiancé(e) classification (K-1) for their fiancé(e). You and your fiancé(e) must be free to marry. This means that both of you are unmarried, or that any previous marriages have ended through divorce, annulment or death. You must also have met with your fiancé(e) in person within the last two years prior beginning the K-1 Visa petition process (filing the I-129F). This requirement can be waived only if meeting the non US Citizen's fiancé(e) in person would violate long-established customs, or if it would create extreme hardship on the US Citizen.

Do some searching on this site and you will find many of the answers for you questions.

Though a good thought. It really does not apply to the OP's question. However, it is a true post by the Member. The Petioner should be aware of this "I would Think". The OP is just starting the Journey and that as we know "SUCKS"!
I would like Dan to read this and see if he feels he can Qualify/Surpass these basic requirements.
