IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNeed help on lease info

My husband and I have never really lived together. We both traveled back and forth, when I'm in the US we would stay at his Moms apartment and when he visits in Jamaica he would stay at my home. I own a house but we never put his name on the deed since we plan on selling it once I'm approved to move to the US. We do have a car in both our names but we were wondering if it's possible to get a lease in both our names seeing I don't have a social security number?
We do have strong proof of a bonafide marriage and the relationship before the marriage, but we don't want to leave any stones unturned. We have been dating since 2008 and we have every receipt of gifts we bought each other. Pictures of every function we ever went to. Pictures with family and friends. Phone records, emails. Affidavits from both our Pastors plus we have a child who is 2yrs old but not relying on that alone. Fact is we love each other and don't care if I'm approved or not since he is willing to move to Jamaica with me.
Is it possible to get a lease in both names?
About to go to the airport now...
I'll be home for Christmas...lol

A Lease is a Binding Contract between a Owner/Leasor and Leasee. No SSN. You are not obligated to the Landlord in case of default, therefore most big companies will reject the application but accept your husbands/wife if approved. Its not a big deal. The one with the SSN is the Contract signer and just and your name as a tenant/occupant until later. You will be fine. As Darnell said. It depends how strick the Owner is. But if its a Lease with a Contract. That SSN is required.

But I was so prepared! honestly I didn't thought my late registered BC would be a problem! I know a member here who was also late registered got interviewed at USEM and never had a problem at all!! I guess its called luck! Yes they got my passport of course!! It is a 221g and you will be required to send your passport along with the 221g document asked! I have specific concern about the phased out school record. Thank you!

I really don't think this is a big deal. They just need some answers. They took your Passport. It's not a Denial. Remember, the Petitioner is the one that needs to address questions that are SERIOUS. They are just looking at you right now as the Benificiary. BEST I SEE

No, there are no children. Right now, she is unemployed while looking for a teaching position. In the marriage certification, her profession is teacher. I don't think that matters. I don't know if it is ok to put housewife.

Either way, don't matter. Its your Income that counts. Either way you could still write Housewife/unemployed.
Good luck to you. I hope other replies come to you for any clarifications.

Ok thanks. Another thing I forget to mention is that she is currently in Nigeria. I am petitioning to bring her over to United States.

Let me clarify, The first line should be unemployed with the date, then the second line should be her last job as a teacher.

I changed my mind. Yes the above is correct but, you could write instead of Unemployed . YOU COULD WRITE: HOUSEWIFE. Since your married. Are there children OP? Just a question.

Then if she's the beneficiary, they really don't care about her Income. Just where she's been 5 years. They only care about your income. As the USC to Support her in the US. Just fill it out truthfuly, if she was working, give the dates, if she was unemployed give the dates.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresUNDER 221g???WHY???

HELLO THERE

i just got home from my interview but the last window told me that we need to have a co-sponsor but my husband's income is enough to make the 125% poverty guideline..i really dont understand why are they asking for a co-sponsor..my husband is Disabled Veteran/Studen and he is getting money from the V.A($1,380) and the GI Bill($1,077) so per month he is getting $2,349 and he got liquid assets too as of right now its $19,132.11..is there anyway that they will look for it again??do we really need to have a co-sponsor??

I think the problem is: A GI Bill is used for educational puposes and is not counted as Income but to be used for School or Training. A GI Bill is not countable from what I've seen as a Source of Income.
The good news is your married and qualify for a Co-Sponsor. The Assets are not enough.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresExpidite

Looks good to me and a reason for Medical Expedite. But, one thing I question. What doctor! A Phycologists does'nt do blood tests. There is another doctor correct and that is where the letter is coming from. ? A MEDICAL DOCTOR.? A phyco doctor is classified as a Mental Health Doctor.
I would submit it. Go for it.

I would like a simple recipe for Ba stilla. Chicken preferably.

I just pm'd you my recipe. It's always a hit! OH - and just for the record - I've been to 2 Moroccan restaurants and had their b'stilla. It was a sore disappointment. Mine is far better!
I'll post it here too, just in case anyone else is wondering. I've posted it before, but here it is again:

B'STILLA
Filling -
2T veg oil (I use olive)
1 onion finely chopped
3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
1/4 C minced fresh flat leaf parsley
2 T minced fresh cilantro (I use a bit more)
1/4 t ground turmeric
8 threads saffron, crushed
1 C water
1 t ground ginger
1 1/4 t ground cinnamon
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1 t salt
1/2 t pepper
2/3 C powdered sugar

Almond mixture -
1/2 C whole blanched almonds (I used split almonds)
1/2 C powdered sugar
1 t ground cinnamon

12 sheets phyllo dough, thawed
1 C (2 sticks) butter, melted (I completely skip this and used spray butter stuff)
ground cinnamon & powdered sugar for garnish

Filling: In a large saucepan over med heat, heat the oil. Saute' onion until golden (6-8 min). Add chicken, parsley, cilantro, turmeric, saffron, water, ginger, & cinnamon. Cover & cook until the chicken is tender (20-25 min). Transfer chicken to a bowl or plate and set aside to cool. Let the sauce continue to simmer in the pan and add the beaten eggs, salt, pepper, & sugar. Stir constantly until the eggs are scrambled. Shred the chicken & add it to the egg mixture. Set aside.

Almond mixture: In a blender or food processor, coarsely grind the almonds and mix w/ sugar & cinnamon. Set aside.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Remove 12 sheets of phyllo from the pkg and re wrap the remaining phyllo in its original wrap. Refrigerate for future use.
Stack the 12 sheets on a work surface and cover w/ a damp towel. Spray a little butter on a pizza pan or baking sheet. Layer 3 sheets of phyllo, lightly spraying each layer w/ butter. Sprinkle the 3rd sheet evenly w/ 1/2 of the almond mixture. Layer & butter 3 more sheets. Spread the chicken mixture evenly over the top, leaving a 1 1/2" border of phyllo. Fold over the edges to partially cover the chicken mixture. Layer & butter 3 more sheets over the chicken, sprinkling the remaining almond mixture evenly over the top. Layer & butter the last 3 sheets of phyllo over the almond mixture. Tuck the edges of the last 6 sheets under the b'stilla as you would a bed sheet (@ this point, I take another baking sheet and place it on top, then flip it over & seal the last 6 sheets of phyllo from bottom to top) - does that make sense?

Bake the b'stilla until golden brown (20-25 min). Place the powdered sugar in a fine-meshed sieve. Tap the sides of the sieve to cover the surface of the b'stilla lightly & evenly w/ sugar. Using thumb & forefinger, sprinkle ground cinnamon over the top (most people make patterns, I just lightly dust it). Serve immediately, before pastry becomes soggy.
**It took me a long time to finally make this b/c I thought it would be a really daunting task. It's not - it's a lot of steps, but it's really easy and didn't take as long as I thought.

Note: These can be prepared in advance and frozen uncooked in aluminum foil. It will keep up to 2 months in the freezer. No need to thaw before baking, but bake for 10 min extra if frozen.
**This makes about a 10" pie and easily serves 4 average plates.
Recipe from "Cooking at the Kasbah" by Kitty Morse (w/ some personal notes adapted in parentheses).

Middle East and North AfricaTransfering Money between America and Egypt
You could not pay me enough money to live in Egypt right now! My husband won't even go there with our daughter because he's afraid for her safety with the current atmosphere there. Four years ago I would have gone in a heartbeat, but now, no way. We all know the torment of being away from the one we love but please consider your safety.

That being said, we use Western Union. There are fees but honestly it's not that bad. Unless you are transferring thousands of dollars or something. That was the easiest, most reliable way we came up with when my husband would send me money when he lived there, and it's how we send money to his family now.

I don't think that AP and "final review" are the same thing at all. When we were told that Ahmed was under final review, the person emailing said "the case is still pending consular officer's final review. His visa should be ready shortly." It ended up being issued the next day. I think that more than likely, the final review depends on the person's case, but is more of a personalized review than the AP tends to be.

Middle East and North AfricaWhat was it like to see him for the first time?
I also did the primping before arrival thing... I had a 2-3 hour layover in Amsterdam, which has WONDERFUL facilities, by the way... anyway, I changed into some regular clothes (I usually travel in comfy pajama type clothes on long flights) and cleaned up, brushed my teeth, all that. What is funny is that I remember that part way more than I remember actually seeing my husband for the first time! I think I was so tired and excited that it just didn't register. According to Ahmed, though, he met me inside the gate, because since he worked at the airport, he was able to talk some people into letting him inside. In later flights I had to face that huge mass of people and it is totally overwhelming! I remember his smile when he first saw me, and how he hurried over to help me with my bags. I think I hugged him, and we held hands while we waited for our taxi, and all the way home to our apartment in Giza. I still remember so clearly the butterflies in my stomach, and that I was shaking, which I'd never experienced before in my life. I just kept looking at him and we were all sappy and grinning at each other like a couple of idiots. I had one moment of "what did I get myself into?!" when we drove through a kind of sketchy area of town, and the area that are apartment was in was completely unlike anything that I had seen here in the US, so that was something to take in. And then there were the five flights of stairs, and ALL of his family waiting in the apartment once I hauled my fat #### up there, haha. We had a wedding ceremony with a... dang, I forget the name of it right now, but someone who officiates marriages. We had one of those that night, with all of his family present, we ate some food, and then we both passed out for about 12 hours. I was exhausted from traveling, he was exhausted from preparing the apartment for me. We ended up getting formally married about two weeks later, when we finally managed to drag ourselves out of the apartment and down to the Ministry of Justice. :)

Middle East and North AfricaReturning Petitions to the United States via 221g

Honestly, the best way for you to get this type of information is to create a new post, or even a poll here in the MENA forum. Hopefully enough members who fall into this category will respond giving you the information you need.

Yeah...i've tried asking this in many differnet places...no luck besides ppl telling me there is no chance of CSC reviewing the case, but it won't be expired when it arrives, so they SHOULD review it.

Middle East and North AfricaReturning Petitions to the United States via 221g

VERY interesting article indeed. I would like to know where they get their information though. I don't see a cited source, specifically for this statement:

"When the State Department return the affirmed K1 visa petition, DHS/USCIS will not review such returned petition, nor will they provide the visa applicant with the opportunity to rebut consular officer's findings. The applicant will not have an opportunity to appeal and in light of the P6C1 marker, may face a permanent bar to admissibility for misrepresentation."

Reason being, there is a known difference in service centers, and how they handle returned K1s. Example: Vermont has traditionally extended the original approval date, reviewed returned K1s and provided the petitioner the opportunity to rebut consular findings. California for some time was allowing the original approval date to expire, not reviewing returned K1s, and sending a letter to the petitioner stating they may file again, recently CSC has been reviewing returned K1s, giving the petitioner the opportunity to rebut consular findings.
If there has been a change in the law or even guidelines stating USCIS (regardless of service center) will not review returned K1s leaving the P6C1 marker on the beneficiary immigration record causing a possible permanent bar to admissibility for misrepresentation, I haven't seen it.

Regardless, I hope this lawsuit forces change in the way returns are handled by both the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State as this is where the largest issue lies. I don't however have faith that it will change the way consulates challenged with a high fraud rate are handling visa applications, not just K1s, K3s and CR1/IR1s. Many consulates are using visa refusal as a way to weed out fraudulent petitions/applications 'without' real evidence of such. Only time will tell, this is definitely something to watch.

(F)~Kiyah~(F)

I'm very glad to hear this....do you have any names or anything of recent ppl from CSC that have had their K1s reviewed? Would love to talk with some of them....get a rough idea of a timeline for how CSC handles the cases. Thanks for the hlp Kiyah.

Monica :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWAITING FOR NOA 2
If you really want, about 4 months after the NOA1 date start to get all the papers you will need for your interview, including the documents needed for support and evidence of a relationship. I would not get it together too quickly as they go "stale" and a police clearance needs to be within 6 months (I think...).

By working in advance your husband can then mail things to you cheaply, without worrying that it will take 3 weeks to get documents and photos to you.

As for the violence in the area, it is probably not as bad as S. Central LA, or just about any major city in the USA. Philippines and the USA actually have very similar murder rates. 5.0 / 100,000 in the USA, and 5.4 / 100,000 in Phils. But compare Russia and Mexico at 15, South Africa at 34 and Jamaica at 62.

Because it is you, and close you feel the impact more. But in the big picture the USA is not all that much safer, and depending on where you move to, might be more dangerous. Be safe wherever you are.

Best of luck.

Middle East and North Africathe other wife and my interview

Under US immigration law, you can only sponsor your first spouse in a polygamous marriage. That would be the wife that you are in the process of divorcing in Egypt right now.

Your second (I presume) wife therefore cannot be sponsored by you until your divorce is final. When the US embassy learns that you are still married to your first wife, your second wife's immigrant visa application will be denied.

You may have already committed material misrepresentation by submitting papers which stated you were single prior to your latest marriage when in actual fact you were not.

I will give that a Vote.  To many lies even in a simple post.  This is why so many wait for approvals.

Middle East and North AfricaHow to deal with leaving
It's super hard... if I had a dollar for every tear I shed in a cab, airport waiting room, shuttle bus, etc. when I was leaving Egypt I'd be a rich woman. But honestly, even with all of those tears, it was nothing compared to the heart-wrenching goodbye that my husband had with his family (sisters, nieces, brothers) when he was finally leaving with me. Because they all knew that he wouldn't be seeing them again for at least a few years (it's been three years now, and not sure yet when we will be able to go back to visit definitively. They were crying, then I was crying, then my daughter was crying because I was crying, and I felt like such a heel for taking him away from his family which obviously loved him so much. I think sometimes we forget that as much as it pains us to live away from our husbands/wives during the immigration process, it is also painful for them to move away from their families.

Actually, this is a subject we've been discussing a lot lately, because we found out there is another MenaWeed on the way, inshaAllah smile.gif We have been debating it a lot, because Ahmed really wants a name that goes both ways in English and Arabic without being translated. So far we've come up with:

Girls:
Layla, Maryam, Maia, Arwa, Nourai, and a few others I can't recall right now...

Boys:
Aiman, Amir, Adham (He really likes this one, me not so much), Amar (he doesn't like this, because he says it's not Arabic... Umm, hello, the Imam on Little Mosque on the Prairie! tongue.gif) I don't know how we got stuck on so many A names. smile.gif

kicking.gif Congrats!!! rose.gif

Take your time .... you will "just know" when you find that perfect name. I had several in mind and when the twins were born...we just "knew" that the names were perfect. Nour's eyes were bright and wide open she was my light! and Zain well his yelling crying squishy face was so beautiful (handsome) when he was comfy, calm and close to my chest...so the meaning of their names fit them.

agreed! I tried to explain to A that even if we chose a name now, that once we meet the little guy/girl, it could seem like the completely wrong name. He had no idea what I was talking about and told me a name is a name tongue.gif Having had a child before, though, I know that a name is definitely NOT just a name... I can't imagine my daughter being anything but Abigail, and I knew that when I saw her for the first time smile.gif But he is the type that wants to get everything settled and set it stone, which I don't blame him for. But I reserve the right to change names up until the last minute tongue.gif The name that I REALLY wanted was Sofia, even though it's become super popular, but he says it would be a weird name in Egypt.
