K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 Finally came - August filer

ann I dont know in the case of someone who doesnt leave in havana...i know my fiance leaves in the outside of havana and he got a telegram with instructions to pick up package..i was there and went with him to pick it up at the embassy...Beau & Digna you should not wait until packet 3 is receive there is no point to it believe me it will just delay the the appts and like i said a friend on mine made his last week and they are like scheduling for september already...Also when u get packet 3 in the main letter lets you know you know the interview date as well...so i believe is the other way around they wait for you to schedule things before sending the packet..

We did receive a message the next day after our interview was scheduled that our packet3 is now ready...coincidence??? I'm really still not sure because it was a repy to an email I'd sent 10 days earlier, and they also said their website is correct (the site say 2 months for an interview, but we are offered 8+ months???). I'd be curious to see someone willing to risk 6 months to find out if being "documentarily qualified", will get you an interview in 2 months as the website says.

Claudia,

Are you sure K-2 children in Cuba need to interview at the same time as the primary K-1 applicant (fiance)? Are you bringing children from Cuba too, or is that just your impression? I mean no disrespect, and I'm sure you know the long processessssssssssssssssssssssssssss can be confusing. I'd appreciate more advice on the K-2 visa process if you know more specific to Cuba. Our children are basically adults now at 17 and 19, and we are 38, and 40. I'm afraid of their "military duty" conflicting with our journey. One son was just very recently "called to duty", and I'm very concerned about this as far as US/CUBA processes go. I know it's a little complicated with the "call to duty", but regardless of that, I'd just like to know about your expierience with K-2 Visas if you have experience with them.

Thanks,
Beau

Thanks for the advice Claudia. Its VERY MUCH appreciated. We actually got our interview set up TODAY for October 24, 2011 (It's a relief, and painful at the same time as I’m sure you’re aware...8-1/2 MONTHS AFTER the US INTEREST SECTION RECEIVES THE APPROVED I-129F FOR AN INTERVIEW!!!). I knew this was coming, but it's just frustrating that they advertise "usually your interview is in about 2 months". I intended to post my experiences with a new post topic on the Cuba Portal tonight, but I read your reply on here first. I think I will still start a new post on the experience though, because we veered a bit from the original topic.

My experience getting a K-1 VISA interview in Cuba Specifically:
I expected the phone interview scheduling to be a very simple process after our I-129F was approved, but it wasn’t for me. When I called, I was connected with the same person (Mary), the first 5 times I called over a week. I was always honest to her questions, and never rude, but she is difficult to schedule an interview with. If you ever get connected with MARY...JUST HANG UP!!! I Finally got connected with some other guy, and it was a piece of cake. I was so happy to hear a different voice.

Claudia, I know everything you say is true about being able to schedule an interview before we receive our packet, but “Mary” just tries to derail all of this in whatever way she can it seems (maybe she’s jealous..Ja Ja). Today, the first question out of her mouth was “Has your fiancé received package 3?” ME: I’m not sure. (I hadn’t talked to her yet today). Next question by Mary: “What is your case number?” I gave it to her, and she said “I’m sorry, but you only have 4 minutes left on your PIN and that is not enough time to schedule an appointment. You can buy another 8 minute PIN for $11 on your credit card, and try to call back.” So basically you get 4 minutes time for $11 because she wouldn’t allow me to partially schedule an interview. I bought my 3rd PIN within minutes today, and I finally got connected with the guy there (I think there are just two scheduling there from what I’ve learned (MARY and the “guy”.) There was NO PROBLEM with the guy, and we got scheduled.

Did any of you prior, have difficulties scheduling with Mary, or did you all get the “guy”? Ja Ja. It’s funny to a point, but we basically lost a week of time in this difficult journey trying to get an interview only because of who answered the phone. I hated to keep trying to call over and over, but I think it’s necessary with discretion at times. We’ve got it worked out for us at this moment (we hope) but much more to come.

Congratulations on the interview date Ann and Aties. Ours hasn't gone quite as smoothly getting scheduled. We got our Cuban passport Tuesday as expected, and I immediately called to schedule the interview. The lady asked the basic questions you mentioned, then asked how many applicants there were. I said "one" (thinking, how many fiances do you think I have there?), then follow with, "oh, wait there are two children involved" She asked about their passport numbers, which we don't have yet. I said that they were follow-to join K-2 applicants, and would schedule an interview at a later date, and I'm just trying to schedule the K-1 interview. The lady asked if I had different case numbers for the children (which we obviously don't). Even somewhere on the VJ FAQ's it talks about scheduling interviews for children to follow at later dates, but I suppose that would be embassy specific. She said we would all need to interview at the same time. I don't believe this is correct, but I don't know where to question or complain. At $11 for 8 minutes of their time, I wouldn't want that to be the place. Anyway we're working on getting passports for the children now as well.

I tried to schedule again two days later, after I thought about it, and did more research. This time I said there was one applicant as my initial instinct told me, so okay there are no problems this time UNTIL...the same lady by the way (Mary) asked if we have received packet 3 yet. I am of course not going to lie, and said we hadn't. She said we would need to receive that before we can schedule the appointment, which is exactly what I had read, but it doesn't seem to apply to most of us on here who schedule immediately after getting the case number. She went on to say that since we haven't received packet 3, we aren't entered into their system to schedule us. WHAT????????? This is obviously not the case. Does anyone have further suggestions of what we can do to get our interview scheduled?

Thanks, and congrats again Ann and Aties.

Here's the link to the US Interest Section in Havana where, I got the information that we should at least wait for the Packet 3 instructions before scheduling the appointment:

http://havana.usint....rocedures2.html

It says:

"Only applicants who have been notified by the Interests Section that their case is ready for processing and who are documentarily qualified may request an appointment."

and goes on to say:

"An applicant for an immigrant visa is eligible to schedule an appointment with a consular officer only if the U.S. Interests Section has informed the applicant that his/her case is ready for processing and the applicant is documentarily qualified. An applicant is documentarily qualified when he/she has obtained all required civil documents, including marriage and divorce records, birth certificate, police certificate, and a valid passport, and completed a medical exam at a designated facility in Cuba. An instruction sheet provided by the Interests Section to immigrant visa applicants contains a complete list of civil documents and other documentation that must be obtained prior to scheduling an appointment. Making an appointment before an applicant is documentarily qualified could cause significant delays in processing the applicant's case."

Significant delays??? More than 8 months for an interview??? Are you kidding me??? I'm not sure what to think with this conflicting interview appointment information, but I'd sure hate to have all the time pass to be fully "documentarly qualified", and find the interview dates are then 10 months out!

We haven't been able to schedule our interview as of yet, because we are lacking the passport, but I was under the impression that we could obtain a passport rather quickly (which appears to be the case, even with a couple unforseen problems), and could do it while waiting for the Packet 3. We filled out the passport application while I was there in December/January, and submitted for it shortly after our NOA2 news. We are supposed to pick it up tomorrow, so I'm holding my breath and fingers are crossed. I'll update you on the interview date if we do indeed pick up the passport tomorrow.

Thanks for the help Claudi and Ann/Aties.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 Finally came - August filer

Filed August 9th, NOA1 August 13th - called USCIS January 11th to ask about it since we were past the five month processing period - talked to nice enough tier one guy who kept repeating himself, but I stayed polite. He told me he would write a service report on it and not to call back for 30 days. The next day got an email from USCIS saying it was being adjudicated and we "should" hear within 45 days. Went on the website today (which I check compulsively at least twice a day) and it would not load - it would time out and not load for me. So I gave up, but then checked one more time to see our case status changed to approved today! Now I have to wait til I get my case # from NVC to call Havana and make an interview date - here's hoping it won't be in 2012. Yahhh for progress - good luck to all the other August filers!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Finally for you two...that was a long wait! I'm not sure what it is, but some Cuba petitions seem to get approved very fast, and others take the full 5 month course. We got our NOA2 January 11, but with an NOA1 of November 15! We still haven't scheduled the interview in Havana yet, because I understand that we must at least receive Packet 3 before scheduling it, and the beneficiary needs to have a passport number for us to be able to schedule with the automated system. We should get the passport next Tuesday, right about the time Packet 3 should arrive. NVC just sent our info off to Havana on Monday January 24. We know our NVC case number, so if you think it's possible to schedule the interview now without the Packet 3, and passport in hand, I'd appreciate the advice. I truly hope for a speedy rest of the process for you moving forward, as it doesn't seem fair how long you two had to wait...I'm scared to hear how far away our interview date will be. I understand it's a long wait in Havana. Take care, and keep in touch...we might just be there for the interview at about the same time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportshow much money you spend on your wedding just curios
We haven't had ours yet but we are planning on under $1,000. We are nontraditional so we aren't having a bridal party (just unnecessary stress, if you ask me), flower girls, anything like that. No crazy off the wall decorations. Outdoor weddings decorate themselves, in my opinion. No dinner at the reception which is the thing people spend so much on. Doesn't suit us at all! I haven't gotten my dress yet but I think that spending over 200 for a one time dress is pointless. It's about the marriage, not about having an outrageous wedding. We're still planning it though but I really think we can do everything for well under 1000. I'm sure we won't even come close to that! Don't start off a new life, and marriage, with money problems or in debt if you can avoid it.

QUOTE (STEPHnRIA @ Mar 24 2008, 06:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi! I hope anyone who's marriage is annulled will make a reply. I just want to ask if you submitted a CENOMAR. I called up NSO and ask for CENOMAR and they said the my marriage will still be indicated with no annotation that it was annulled. They said that what I need to do is submit the Marriage Certificate of the previous marriage together with the annulment decree. Are they right?

Hoping for your replies. Thank you.

I tried submitting my Cenomar during my interview but they didn't look at it they just got my Annotated MC from NSO East Avenue, yep your marriage still appears on your Cenomar so its of no use

Don't worry.. You are not alone on that. Here in he states. It is not about quality, but quanity. They will give you your check even before you take the first bite of your main entree. I just tell them to go away and leave me alone or they don't get tip, but even worse I won't pay for the food for the interruptions.

It is one thing coming by to fill up the drinks. It is another thing trying to kick us out the door and expect a good tip from it.

Philippines13 a resident visa

Hi,I married to a Filipino.I curious to the reqiurmetns for the 13a Resident visa.I just want to know what is all the papers and fee's needed. My wife want's to back home very much and she sad here. So, I plan to stay here until she feeling better (maybe 1 year and few months). We just want to do this without all the visa extentions and trips to the consulate/embassy.You can clearly see that in my profile that I am young, but I have a good paying job here.I won't be staying forever or anything.I just want to do what is best for my wife.

PLEASE DON'T POST IF YOU GONNA SAY LEAVE HER OR ANYTHING NEGATIVE.

I respect your decision to let her go back home without a lot of hard feelings if she is not happy here. I also understand your need to stay here for you job. I think I may do the same if my fiancee isn't happy when she comes here. I hope things work out for you both in the end. Good luck.

If it makes you feel better, I had the exact same plan. I've already bought her phone and now I'm reading this thread to find out what to do.

PhilippinesMailing a cell phone to the Phil

just get her a sim card, send the sim card -
she can bring her handphone with her, pop in a new sim card at the POE whilst she's waiting in line for the immigration check.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezies.

This is actually the best way to handle 'this'.

Sounds like this is what I should do then. Thanks. How do you get a sim card here in the states? I've never bought one before. I just use verizon. Will it automatically work when she puts it in her phone so that she can call me at 503-xxx-xxxx, nothing else needed?

-James
James and CynthiaMalePhilippines2011-04-01 23:04:00
PhilippinesMailing a cell phone to the Phil

Send her a preapaid phone. ATT / MetroPCS / Boost.

I pay $40 per month for my MetroPCS prepaid phone, It gives me unlimited calls, text, and internet, and plus I get free unlimited text to Philippines.....

So I can sent a prepaid phone but not a normal phone? That doesn't make sense. I simply want to send her a new phone I received so that she can call me from the airport when she gets here. She won't be using it there. This is much easier than having her use a pay phone, buying and sending a prepaid phone, or finding a sim card to send her.

So is it a customs law or not? Should I put on the customs form that there is a phone inside? I need to mail it on Monday. There is no time for slow mail if it is to get there before her appointment on the 15th. I'm sending her documents at the same time.

There's quite a number of apartelles or serviced apartments in Makati or Pasay that will suit your needs and budget. They have daily/weekly/monthly rates. Try Googling "apartelle," "hostel," "serviced apartments" in those locations.

Condo rentals will typically require at least one month deposit and 1 to 2 months advance and the cheaper business hotels would still probably cost you more than P10K for a month's stay.

Philippinesscheduling interview help pls

Also when i try to schedule online it ask for a CEAC number and also a case type number. I cant tell which is the CEAC number cuz my fiancee gave me a 12 digit number and also a 8 digit nuber both of which i entered and it wont accept.

pls. help

I tried to schedule online but didn't see anything about CEAC number. Instead I got an error saying our case type number is invalid.

Did you go to the K-Visa Appointment Scheduling link or the Schedule an Appointment link? On the phone did they ask you to select non-immigrant visa or immigrant visa option? Which one did you choose? Even though K-1 is a non-immigrant visa, I think you may need to choose immigrant visa option. I could be wrong though.

What is a CEAC number? My fiancee gave me a 12 digit number from her BPI receipt when she paid her visa fees. She also gave me a 2-letter and 7-digit number from her passport. What is your 8 digit number from?

Isn't this online stuff supposed to be easier? It sure doesn't seem that way.

PhilippinesDaily food cost and tranportation in manila

For worried spouses i was wondering what kind of daily budget to plan a day for my wife for first food cost and possible transportation cost, while she is conducting her medical, and embassy interviews in manila.Posted Image Forgot about the CFO class too! Is there a safe place she can use a phone to call for a ride or taxi at St Lukes since they dont allow phones, also is she allowed to wait there or at a close restaurant to meet with a possible ride after she is finished.Posted Image

I believe it is only the US Embassy that does not allow phones. I don't think St. Lukes cares if you have one. My fiancee had hers at St. Lukes. I called her while she was there. She didn't say anything to me about having to sneak it in and she didn't seem worried when I called her there. Where did you hear you can't have phones at St. Lukes?
