Hey, Slim, are you saying your employers forbid wedding bands? I've got serious issues with that.

About two years ago they came out with a "no jewelry" policy. Nothing. No wedding bands, no earrings, not even a Mr. T style feather was allowed. I work in a factory with machinery and lots of moving parts so there was at least a valid reason for them to issue the new order; Safety First.

However, about a week into it, so many people were b!tching about not being able to wear their wedding rings that they amended the policy and allowed wedding bands to be worn. They've loosened up quite a bit on enforcement of the policy (some of the girls are even sporting engagement rings without wedding bands) but it is now "officially" allowed to wear one.

I choose to not wear mine at work because I happen to like all my fingers, including my ring finger and I know sooner or later if I wore my ring, it'd be melted to the side of a plastic bag along with what's left of my finger. It's a pretty simple titanium band so it probably wouldn't get cut or break but my finger is pretty maleable so that'd probably be what separated from my body. The ring would just be sitting there mocking me.

My wife works in a sandwich shop so she's always getting messy hands and chooses not to wear hers on that account. Plus, hers has a pearl and some small diamonds on it (not really a traditional band but that's the one she wanted... special ring for a special girl!) so she doesn't want it to get messed up either.

We wear them when we get "dressed up" or go out together somewhere. Daily though, neither one of us really wears one. We almost didn't even buy them as it wasn't a big issue for either of us but my parents "donated" the money for them a few days, actually, I think it was the day before, the wedding. Since then, the longest I've worn mine was while we were on vacation. I have a nice "worn" spot of dry, cracked skin on my ring finger now. It's ugly, but it's not enough to make me chance getting caught in some gears.

(I have a buddy at work who has a "work" wedding ring and a "home" wedding ring. He left his work ring at the wash basin one day and thought he lost it. He wasn't very worried about it and we were all like, "Yo man, your wife's gonna kick your @$$ when she finds out you lost your wedding band." He said, "Naw man. That's just my work ring. My home ring is safe and sound. That one was just a $20 Wal-Mart special that I wear around here at work so I don't mess up my other one." He still has all his fingers..... and never got his @$$ kicked.)

My wife only wears her ring(s) when we go out too. She likes to keep them nice, and it isn't a great idea for her to wear them at her work either. My wedding ring was a 35$ band I really didn't care about. I wore it most of the time, but wedding rings were not a big deal to us... I thought...

Then I lost my ring. She was not happy blink.gif All of a sudden it was a big deal... bah!

Anyway, she bought me a much nicer one for our wedding anniversary. I still do not wear it everywhere, but if I lose it... I might lose something else if you know what I mean.

The ring wasn't (and still isn't) a big deal to my wife either. Yes, she was very happy to recieve it, but even in America she doesn't wear it around all the time. Its part culture, and part her personality, I think.

The ring really wasn't that expensive (especially by the standards of many of the men in this forum), and the diamond wasn't very big, but it still would stick out walking down the street in her city in Russia.

My fiancee has a big Saphire engagement ring and wears it everyday in Omsk (large Siberian city) without fear. Granted, it is not a diamond ring, but according to her, Russian women are fond of jewelry and wear expensive jewelry all the time in Moscow and other large russian cities without fear. My personal experience is that Russian big city streets tend to be safer than American big city streets vis-a-vis crime. Indeed, I suspect that it is more likely that she would get mugged for her ring in the USA rather than Russia....... not that either event is statistically likely to happen.

Perhaps I didn't say that right. Jewelry is quite common, obviously. Engagement rings are not. Obvious or otherwise, I never said she would get mugged.

Hey all.
I started my search for convenient places to stay in Moscow for Tanya and Alina. I figure three days for time for them to get the medical on the weekend and the interview on Monday (May 12).

I have left two emails and even talked to Olyesa, "My Girl Friday", that was recommended here. But she has not responded to my inquiries. Guess she doesn't want my business. Anyone have some alternatives?

Chuckles, could you elaborate a little bit on what you submitted, what her mother's "ties" were, and what the interview was like? My mom is about to have an interview, and your post could help us much!

Sorry for the late reply.

Her ties were a home and apartment she owns, her family, and her job. They seemed most interested in her job.

They asked her if her daughters middle name was alexandaya or something, which it isn't. I guess they were trying to catch something (???). They asked how long she wanted to stay in America, she said that she had to get back to work on September 1st. They noticed the invitation was for September 10, she said no, she needs to be back by the 1st. She mentioned how important her job was to her... laid it on a little think. Some other questions, like how do we communicate (in Russian), where she would stay in America (she was specific about our town and house). At some point she mentioned her husband, I forget where and what the question was.

Anyway, follow these guides and have your in-law impress the consule that they really must come back to Russia for something. Do not overstate your need or intentions to be in America. If you/she does that, it will be fine I am sure.

The lady before here was in a similar situation, but she didn't emphisize during her interview she had stuff to come home to do, and when asked why she is going to America she answered "to help my daughter take care of her baby" and apparently they ended the interview right there and told her she could not get a visa.

Moral of the story, do some brief coaching and make your in-law understand excatly what the consul want to know and hear, as we did.

Anyway she got the visa and everything worked out.

Yah, they are jerks.

The implication is her daughter needs her to take care of the baby, and she would be inclined to stay and help. I would have advised her to not say anything about helping, and just about visiting, emphisizing why she would need to come back soon to Russia (job, husband, children, cat, anything).

Olga's mom is coming for a visit in summer. I browsed around a little but do not see a very good guide or hints for getting the visa. I guess I have a few questions.

Do I send a packet with documents that prove I can support her while she is here to Moscow? Do I need proof of citizenship/marriage/permanent residency from me or my wife to send? Am I supposed to send a seperate invitation letter to the embassy? I see some conflicting information about this.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is that really any different than our interviewer at the AOS hearing saying, "Gosh, you guys are so young. Do you know what you're getting into?"

Slightly different; I'd have been mildly offended on hearing that but not enough to make a big deal of it. The difference is that the consulate interviewer was actively trying to dissuade her from marrying, and actively trying to persuade her to abandon her visa. Your AOS interviewer was just being nosy.

Dunno...to me, it's nobody's effing business to stick their nose into my relationship as long as we're both consenting adults.

Well I guess I'll chime in on a serious note. It is his business to probe into the relationship, in fact, it is his job. It can easily be argued that he was trying to shake her and have her admit she only wanted a green card somehow.

I can't say I like it, but step back a long ways, then look at the big picture.

Hello, did any of you submit a K1 application for your fiance who was divorced?

In the main K-1 forum it states that someone got an RFE for having to prove the person on the divorce decree was the same as the person on the application. The were the petitioner, but still, did any of you send more evidence your Russian fiance was the person on the divorce decree? A birth certificate or a passport copy?

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusPolice Check for K-3 visa process

Why you choice K-3 ?

I’m not sure what you are asking me geniuscastellan. I am pursuing the K-3 because it is arguably faster than other routes. If I am mistaken in this belief I would certainly like to know about it.

If you check the official data available from the USCIS website, and you check the data entered for K1 and K3 visas by VJ subscribers in thier immigration timelines (link above), you will see on average the K3 visa takes longer to obtain. It is not a significant difference, but as far as speed, the K1 is faster. I believe you will have an easier time with the AOS, however. I do not know about the AOS, just what I have heard.

Good luck with the process at any rate!
