How many days from you had your fingerprint appointment till you got in line?

when I checked my status online, they said on the 28th they placed me inline for an interview schedule, hope it goes by so quick, I needed a passport as my old passport is totally expired :blush:

I went ahead to Portland Oregon for my walk in finger print if they can allow me but no luck, the officer said I have to reschedule the appointment, I was so pissed :bonk:

because I work on my appointment day, I remember few years ago I did walk in for my green card and they allowed me

My fiancee thought it might be quicker and easier to go to the Brunei Embassy in Philippines rather than mail a request to Brunei because she knew she would be moving from Taiwan back to Philippines within a month. When she went to the embassy in Philippines, they gave her a different list of requirements. These requirements include new things like an application, passport type photo, and photo copy of request from US embassy. The requirements they gave her are attached.

The first two new requirements sound easy, but how do I get a request letter from the US embassy? I hope we don't have to wait for NOA2 on my fiancee's K1-Visa process. I'm afraid things will be delayed if we do that. Could it be that the Brunei Embassy in Philippines has different requirements than simply mailing directly to Brunei as shown on travel.state.gov?

Only spend $600 on a Certificate of Citizenship if you use $100 bills for toilet paper. Otherwise I'd suggest to get a US passport instead as she'll need one anyway and forget the Certificate which has no other purpose as . . . guess that . . . getting the first US passport.

Well, I just received a call today from the passport office. They will not issue our daughter a US passport because it has not been 2 years since we were married (married on June 25, 2011), and it has not been 2 years since the adoption.

We plan on traveling back to the Philippines on the 14th of June. The passport office says they will send my daughter's green card back to us so that she can travel, and that after we return, and after our 2 year anniversary, we can send the green card back to them, along with a marriage certificate.

So this brings up a few new questions:

1. Will we have problems with my daughter's plane tickets using her new last name, while her Philippines passport and her greencard have her old last name?

2. Do I need to bring a marriage certificate and adoption papers with us in case there are problems?

3. Do I need to bring any other documentation?

4. Should I call the airlines and ask them about what is required or if they can change her last name on the tickets?

5. Why are they telling us about this 2 year requirement when I haven't seen anything stating it as a requirement? Have others had this issue too? Is there somewhere that states this requirement.

Have friends that adopted a baby from a foreign country, besides everything else, had to go to immigration.

In contrast, if a pregnant woman terrorist came here illegally with intentions of doing damage to this country, and gave birth to her child here. That child would be a US citizen without any USCIS involvement.

It's not your will to become a US citizen that counts, it is something none of us have control over. It's where we were born that is the only thing that counts.

Thanks. As mentioned above, our attorney told us to file for her certificate of citizenship after we receive her new birth certificate. I suppose we will have to file the N-600 in order to do so.

My wife and her daughter came here last year in May with a K1/K2 visa. We got married in June 2011 and then they both received their 2 year green cards in December of 2011. We just completed the adoption for my wife's daughter today. She is now a US citizen with my last name. We will receive her new birth certificate in about one month. After we receive it, we were told by the attorney to have her name changed with social security and to apply for a certificate of citizenship. Since we will be traveling to the Philippines in June of 2013, we were told to also apply for a new US passport.

Is there anything else we need to do? What about removal of conditions? When we apply for removal of conditions for my wife next year, do we need to do anything for our daughter?

My husband and I use Skype to communicate. We also use his cell but its a pay as you go so no record of calls. How does one print off anything from skype?? I can't do a screen print of communication and can't get how to print off any messages sent. Any help would be appreciated. On another topic, I have not read anywhere that anyone has ever had to show the book of proof of relationship at the interview. Should I still have one put together??? Wasn't that already proven when I sent the package in the original I130???? We have just paid our IV bill so now waiting on instructions of what to do next. I used Skype logs as well and ran into the same problem. What I did is open my fiancee's window, scroll to the top and show previous conversations. At certain places in the log, I hit Alt-PrtSc (Alt key and PrintScreen key at the same time) to copy a picture of the window to the clipboard. I then pasted the picture into a word document using right-click paste. I did this for several places in our chat lot with various dates and snippits of our conversations, maybe making and printing 6 to 8 pages. I hope this helps.

No 'primary evidence' that has my name on it, that I could remember until now. I have plenty of secondary evidence. I just realized I have roaming charges on my cell phone bill that puts me in Ottawa! I never used my cell to talk to her, I always used a skype phone line, so I didn't even think about it.

CarolAnn, it is hard, it's more than just keeping receipts. There is just so much to learn about this process, and I never realized how much was involved until I sat down and did it. Add in all the excitement from proposing to her and such, sometimes it was hard to think clearly reading all this stuff..lol, not to mention being someone who doesn't like to read the directions! This site has been great, especially just reading the forums daily to learn the process (though after the fact).

It is sooo much more than receipts and I as well never realized there was so much involved. I am just the opposite tho, I am a perfectionist when it comes to reading directions! But, I didn't have any of the primary evidence that was on the list I was reading so I went with secondary. Then I find out I could have sent bank statements. I did have a receipt from up there for a vet. We were getting his dog ready to come down here and I just paid for it with my debit card and he gave me the Canadian currency. (They didn't have change) However, I chose not to send the receipt because after I pulled it out of my file, I realized they had put Mr. & Mrs. as the owner of the dog. Figured that would be a huge red flag that I didn't need just because the receptionist assumed we were married. I have plenty of evidence of ongoing relationship, just that sticky little part of proving I was there face to face within last 2 years. I am thinking my bank statement is a lot better for this since it is only owned by me. Receipts don't show the purchaser unless it has your credit card or debit information on it.

I was born in Cuba. Yes, your wife needs both a Cuban and US Passport to enter and exit Cuba. I got my Cuban Passport last year thru an agency here and cost me $430 valid for 6 years and every two years you have to do "prorroga" for the Passport to maintain valid. It is cheaper to get it done in Cuba.

Thanks for the confirmation. It's pretty much what I thought...but the laws can change rapidly, and I haven't been following recently. We were in the midst of immigration when Cuba changed the "carta blanca / exit permit" (Dec/2012?). We've already visited Cuba once since our marriage, but it wasn't comfortable going through immigration on either end...actually most uncomfortable reentering the US. We've done a "prorroga" on her passport as well (via mail to DC), but we need another one soon (how quick is TWO YEARS!...#######). My math was wrong in the original post, but I know it's $1000+ for a 6-year Cuban Passport. You're Cuban born...Are you petitioning for your fiancé as a US citizen or resident?...just curious. The Cuban Interests Section recently had the last bank it did business with choose to stop working with them (due to the embargo) since I suppose it took too much meticulous bookkeeping for the bank. The U.S. government had to somehow encourage a bank to work with the Cuban Interests Section, but for months at a time earlier this year the Cuban Interests Section had no way of engaging in financial transactions. It's bizarre.

I wasn't aware of that. I sort of just took a break from immigration for about a year and a half or two. Yes, immigration things always caught my eye in the news, but I only heard of the Cuban Interests Section in DC being "unavailable" by a couple friends we've made here on visajourney.com. Yeah...trust me that I've had experience with both sources many times already. Thank you for providing the perfect links for my question though. I should've/could've looked more thoroughly before asking. I've been a bit lax for our "waiting period" to Lift Conditions of Residency, but getting focused again.

I'm going by memory, but I think a 6 year Cuban passport costs about $300+, and needs to be updated every 2 years (within the 6 years), for about $200+/2yrs., which is more than US$1000 for 6 years. Not to mention, the Cuban Interest Section in DC just closes down occasionally for extended periods without notice...so no one can update/renew a Cuban passport in the US.

Cuba requires those who have ever held Cuban citizenship to enter Cuba on a Cuban passport, if I'm not mistaken. My Cuban-American family that left Cuba very young complain about the expensive passport fees and overall bureaucracy of it all. Since your wife's American passport will list Cuba as her country of birth, I think it's a bad idea to have her go back on anything but a Cuban passport, even though she would never use it for any other purpose.

Cuban passports are the most expensive in the World to maintain...the last I read a couple years ago at least. Thanks for the info. Very stupid of me, but I actually didn't think about passport listing place of birth...I was just thinking she has a new last name on a US passport. My Cuban wife and I are currently lifting conditions on her US residency. She entered the US on a K-1 visa. My question is more of a forethought?Once she has US citizenship/passport, is it still necessary for her to maintain Cuban citizenship/passport to be able to enter/exit Cuba for family visits?

My understanding under current Cuban law is that there is no dual citizenship, and once a Cuban you are always a Cuban. However, as a born US citizen myself, I have no problem coming to, or going from Cuba with my US passport?I?m just afraid my wife might have problems visiting Cuba with only a US passport since she was born in Cuba. I hope that makes sense. Any help is appreciated.

notary fees at US consulate

Has anybody had documents notarized at a US consulate??? we have seen on the chennai consulate website fees for 30$ US for the first notarized signiture and 20$ for the second. is this really possible to be so much or is this a misprint on the website?
