The problem with moving back in with the parents (and if you t hink trying ot move back in after 7 months, trying moving back after being on your own for 10 years hon.. lol), is that it's not a viable solution for all of us. For instance, my parents are an hour and a 1/2 drive away, in a small town with NO opportunities for someone like me. I'd have to quit my job, and what money savings would there be in that? lol I'd also potentially lose my E.I. eligibility, if I'm without work for too long before moving.. Anyways, I think I mentioned this before, but yeah, that just makes me that much more anxious about the procrastination of Montreal.

Spoom, you're in London? Me too! lol

Side note *hugs to Igg*

and... Those of you worrying about your lease renewals, have you checked with your landlords to see if they go month to month afterwards? Most places will do that, without having to sign on for an entire year. Maybe if you let them know what's happening they might let you stay the extra month or two if you need it?

I'm going to be without a place to stay in February. My roommates are having a baby and she's due on the 5th, so I'm out! LOL I really hope by then things will be in place to move, or i'll be moved and married by then.. cause damn. wacko.gif

Send back exactly what they request on the cover sheet that they send you (even if it feels like you're ending duplicates, or redundant forms.. better too much than too little!).

Yeah, that bothers me (as I've mentioned and previously ranted....lol)(. I don't't even care anymore if my interview wasn't until January/February... as long as I KNEW. Not knowing until a month ahead of time is ridiculous!! It makes it impossible to work around.

I'm slowly coming to terms with it, but still really really irritated. I just want to know when I'll see my fiancé again... sad.gif As I'm sure we all do...

It's definitely annoying not knowing... my boss and co-workers would literally ask me weekly "when is your interview, when are you moving" and they didn't believe it when I said "I don't know!" It's like they just don't get it.... no one does, unless you're in this situation!!

Which makes VJ all the more wonderful!!!

Mine are ok with it 'sorta', and are at least not demanding a date and realizing that I need to be flexible... but the problem is that we are severely understaffed, so they will specifically need to get a replacement for me (hence me not really being including with anything)... and there's also a girl there that's pregnant and will be taking her leave in January... lol Talk about timing. It's just frustrating. It's a smallish company, and I don't like being ignored. laughing.gif

re: the job thing... I also tried to be nice to people at work and let them know the situation. Mostly because I took a leave in August, and they asked if i was coming back and etc, and it led to me telling them that I will be moving there, and am waiting for paperwork, and don't know exactly when. As a result, I lost my full time status, and any input I have (which they didn't listen to much anyways) is completely null and void, since I am not going to be with the company long term, and I am left out of everything, and they are considering a replacement down the line already anyways. They're already planning my departure.
They all seem to think I'll be gone soon, but I have to explain to them that while I don't know when I'm leaving, I will still have advance notice for them, and I will at least be there until the end of December. There's only so much I can tell them without spending an hour trying to explain the immigration process, and just ending with 'LOOK, I DON'T F'ING KNOW WHEN I'M LEAVING... OK!?!??!?! I SHOULDN'T HAVE EVEN TOLD YOU AT ALL'.... lol

I've given up on Christmas with my fiancé... I was kind of ok with spending it with my parents anyways, since my brother moved this year and they had to sell their house, I didn't want them to be alone this Christmas.

Honestly, I'm starting to get to a point where I don't care when my interview is.. I just NEED to KNOW... I can't do ANYTHING. My fiance and I can't make ANY plans for him to come visit, cause we don't know how far apart things will be spaced.. we can't make any wedding plans, can't make any moving plans, can't make any plans for my parents to travel. I do NOT like my life in limbo. It really irritates me ALOT.

Also, I'm out of a place to stay in January.. I'll likely have to move to my parents house at the start of February and sleep on their couch if I don't have a visa by then. Good times.

I also thought it would be November, which would have been perfect. sad.gif I want to quit at the end of December, but also want to work as late as possible leading up to the move.

When I say immediately, I guess it just depends on when my interview is. If it doesn't end up being until January, then yes, I mean IMMEDIATELY. Like within a couple days. I still really want to try to get married January 10th (or 23rd as a backup). My fiance is going to come with me to the interview, and also wants to be here to help me move... he won't be able to get that much time off work if we don't coordinate them both to be within a few days of each other (again which would make November even better, cause he could make 2 separate smaller trips spaced apart... sigh!).
I'd like to a) avoid as much winter as possible, and B ) can't really quit until after Christmas because that's our busy season at work, plus covering all the holidays, and don't want to quit then and burn any bridges. lol

Anyways.... what I mean is, even if I find out when my interview is a month in advance, I'm not sure I want to give my notice right away, because what if I fail the interview and get rejected? Then, not only can I not move to the U.S., but I've lost my job. lol I'm also out of a place to live at the end of January, since my roommates are going to have a baby in February and need my room.... wacko.gif

A co-worker of mine asked me today if I had picked out a date for my last day (i.e. When I'm quitting). As if I have a choice!!

But that brings up a point... I plan to move IMMEDIATELY after getting my visa. I was hoping to have some time between the interview and the move date, but now I don't think I will, given that it's taking SO F'ING LONG for Montreal to book interviews. I want to move in January ideally, so there's not much choice... anyways... Now I'm concerned about when to actually quit. Cause it's not like I can say I'm going to quit, have them find a replacement, and then be like 'oops, I failed, I need my job back'. lol I also don't want to be like 'ok yes, I'm officially quitting now, because I got my visa'... wacko.gif

Hey everyone!

So I filled out and submitted another DS 160 form and printed out the confirmation. What confuses me still is that on the side bar, they explained "nationality" as the place where you were born. I originally put Taiwan, but when I asked Montreal they said it should have been Canadian? Anyway, I filled it out with Canadian. The other little issue was the receipt number. When I asked Montreal, they said it should be the USCIS receipt number. Yet, I have seen some people on VJ put the NVC number. Again, one form has the USCIS number, and the other has the NVC number. Should I just bring both confirmations and the e-mails from Montreal to back them up? Thanks!

Tina

In the instructions for the Packet 3, they request the case number as listed on that letter... which is the number that, for us, begins with MTL**********

I'm just looking at DS-230, and I have a couple of questions:

1. Are they treating the fiance as the spouse?

2. Address of spouse would be the same as the one I intend to live, right?

3. What if we don't know the date of marriage?

4. Not sure what to put for 31(a) and 31(cool.gif

Thanks so much!

Tina

no, he's not your spouse yet, so put 'N/A', especially since you'll be marking your martial status as single. That whole section of Qs 14-18 does not apply.

31 is if you have children or other family members that are coming with you. If there are none, put N/A.

Thanks, and did you list all of the previous visits to the US? How far does that have to go back?

At least, that's how I've interpreted it and that's how I filled it out.

Also, in terms of educational institutions, I went to school in Canada starting from Junior high, so do I have to list that, too? These questions are so ambiguous as to how far to go back unsure.gif

I wondered the same thing. I just put high school and college, since they ask for diploma/degree and course of study (I made one up for high school based on what classes I liked best... LOL)

Take a look at this topic, it has a scan of the letter from Montreal listing the paperwork needing done:

http://www.visajourn...h...=217594&hl=

Thanks Rhiann, I take it we can fill out these forms ahead of time?

Yes, you can fill them out ahead of time. And you can get your police clearance without any visa paperwork (people get police clearances all the time for a variety of reasons... they'll ask you why you're getting it, but you won't need to prove it).

Great, thanks! What about the one that I fill out online? Do I fill that one and send electronically before the interview date?

yep! That's the DS160. you do that one and print off the confirmation page, and application if you can (it will give you the opportunity to print after you submit it). Send it back with your packet 3 stuff.
Be aware that it asks for a passport type photo to upload with the 'form'. I didn't know that until I did it, but I luckily had a scanned copy of the one I sent with the I-129F. If you don't have one on your computer you might want to play around with a webcam to get one, or get a passport photo (you'll need them anyway) and scan one.

You can get your police check without the letter, if you want to go ahead and do that now. It's also good for a year (so I've heard).

I wouldn't entirely set your heart on Nov/Dec... it'll still be probably 3 weeks by the time Montreal gets your stuff and sends you packet 3, then you'll have to wait to hear from them about the interview which has been taking a long time lately. I'd expect somewhere more like Dec-Feb. Always better to figure you'll get it later than sooner... cause sooner doesn't seem to be happening. sad.gif

Side note.. every time I see someone update, I keep hoping it's an update to say they've got an interview... nope. sad.gif

If the K-3 is non-immigrant as well than he would do the 156k instead of part 2.

Ashen - the reason they have us do both is they are trying to get rid of the DS230 and just use the DS160..we are guinea pigs lol.

OK, he filled out the DS 160 online for Montreal and I think that takes the place of the old 156k.

Eventually...but I think he still needs to bring a copy with him for now.
