Geez Rob.... well at least he's being nice about the security deposit... but nothing like a nice send off of 'don't let the door hit you on the way out'. I hope it doesn't end up rushing you guys too much. He probably just wants someone in there asap that'll pay the higher amount of rent. Lame.

So, I just typed out a huge rant about a friend that's really been angering me the last couple of weeks.... but I'm not posting it. So, really I don't need to post this message at all. But I am anyways.

Here's to venting about friends that piss us off. Cause really, ####### IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE. And if there is a god, he's a dummy for making people such selfish dinks who hate each other so much and are incapable of seeing each other's point of view.

YEAH, I SAID IT.

Many of Yvonne's friends know me (that's how we met -- I knew them first), but she still seemed to be in a similar boat in the last few months before she moved - they would always ask us why she was moving here to NY instead of me moving to Toronto. Even now that she's moved, she thinks they're probably expecting that she'll keep coming to visit every 2-4 weeks like I used to when we were separated for immigration, which isn't going to happen.* It may only be a 3.5-hour drive, but still... no. Home is here now.

*Yvo's saying this as much as I am -- typed out, it almost looks like an edict on my part, which isn't the case. :P

I'm so very jealous of your 3.5 hr drive. I'd definitely make that drive once a month to visit friends/family if I could. Just sayin'. Especially if many of your friends are mutual there. My husband and I have many mutual friends back in Canada, and we'd love to be able to visit frequently, but I'll be shocked if we're able to go more often than even once a year (if that). Yes, home is in the U.S. now, but I can't blame her friends/family for expecting somewhat regular visits when you're so close!

OMG... that happens to me quite frequently. Especially in the last few months. Usually about job-hunting strategies and suggestions for my husband. His dad would suggest something I put out there a month ago and he never did anything about. SIGH.

But it's funny when it happens that a friend back home sends us links to random places that are hiring, without us asking her to... she's just one of those people that likes to help whether you want it or not... and we can say 'yep, he applied there, oh, applied there too, yep was supposed to interview there, but they bailed'. lol Seriously.

my worst nightmare is what you just described. Geezus... I just did the DING thing too... They don't fly to Santa Barbara? That sucks. connecting flights are horrible -- the stress is crazy. Dont' get ranty, I hear you...

We'll get ranty AFTER xmas when I write to say that I got stuck in buffalo, had my luggage stolen and had to sleep at the bus station due to a whiteout, had nothing to eat but a processed cheese sandwich on white bread and half a bag of fritos and a Tab.

We can rant together.

It is for this reason that my fiance and I never fly out of Canada anymore when we go visit each other. I live about 2 hours from the border, and it's STILL cheaper to fly out of Detroit, and take a 2.5 hour shuttle bus ride to the airport , than it is to just fly right out of London, ON. It's well worth the added travel time, even with the cost of the bus added.

Yep, I did this repeatedly back when I was flying on a regular basis. Robert Q airbus is nice for getting to Detroit. I just drive now since my fiancee is only about five hours away.

Good to see someone else in London.

smile.gif Yay London! If you ever need to bus it again, check out Aboutown too. They're pretty awesome. Robert Q's main competition, and their fares are 'slightly' better, and the schedule is a little better as well. Though it's really a flip of the coin between the two.

I wish it was that easy to get to Montreal, without it taking a whole day. I'm going to go insane on a bus/train/car ride that long. lol

I don't know... I started looking up previous timelines for Canadians at MTL too, but the thing is... has it ever been this bad? A year ago, hell, even six months ago, wasn't it a three month wait for an interview? (Even that seemed far too long.)

Realistically, if folks who filed in July/August won't be seeing interviews until January, I don't see March as being too far from the mark. And I don't like that in the least, but at this point, I guess I'd rather be pleasantly surprised by a sooner date.

I feel for any of you that had dates in mind... I'm quite glad we set the mindset of just getting married on our own and then sharing in the party when his sister and her fiance get married in April. Now, who knows, heh.

Yes it has, at this time last year exactly. There were a few people on here who sent back P3 in September who got their interviews in January. I sent back my P3 in mid-November and didn't find out about my interview until almost the end of February. This is not uncommon or different.

I think going through the process, we underestimate the time things take. Some people get through really fast, others a bit longer.

I would've thought from beginning-mid Sept to the end of Jan would be a reasonable allowance for the length of time. It's sad that 4 months is a 'common' wait for an interview. I don't know if I'm getting more worried due to finding things out about MTL's wait times on VJ or not... like it all seems bad news... but I know I've seriously had to stop looking at info on other consulates. lol

The thing I'm personally concerned about is having to delay and scramble... I've mentioned it before, but it's not even the dates of the wedding I care about anymore... it's the fact that I don't have a place to live at the end of January. I can make due for a couple of weeks at my parents house in Feb if need be, but i'd have to quit my job since they live an hour and a 1/2 away... so any longer than that, and it's going to become a really bad mess. sad.gif
Not to mention, I'm really REALLY ready to move... blah I hate it here.

I really think this is so ridiculous. I wish there were laws in place that made this unacceptable.

The way I try to think of it, now that I've had my little freak out and actually gave it some thought... lol.. is that we filed out original petition in mid-April. It's VERY unlikely that it will take a whole year for this process to complete itself. i've been looking on the VJ timelines for Canadians and it seems anyone who has had a time line over 300 or so days has had some sort of reason or delay for it.

Im' still hoping for a February interview at the latest. I know that would be a possible long shot, but I've GOT to have hope for something. I've come up with another possible wedding date of March 21st, 2010. SURELY I can get that one... lol I've already given up on January 10th, and February 10th, and Jan. 23, and Feb 20th. Something here has GOT to work out wacko.gif

Sent off my first (of many) email to Montreal today.

Yay for automated responses. However, this one I had to ponder at:

QUOTE
Q1: I have sent multiple inquiries, but have not gotten a response. Why?

A: Our hard-working Immigrant Visa Unit receives hundreds of inquiries every month. However, experience has shown some applicants call on the phone, send an e-mail and send a fax, all asking the same question or a variation of that question. Regrettably, we do not have a separate unit dedicated specifically to the hundreds of emails and faxes we receive every month; the staff who answer your inquiries are also responsible for processing the thousands of Immigrant Visa applications we receive every year. Thus, in order to serve applicants faster, we simply cannot continue to respond to inquiries requesting confirmation of receipt of documents or faxes. In addition, we hope that this list of FAQs will further ease this burden. We will truly attempt to answer every legitimate question not covered by these FAQs, and do so as quickly as possible.

I completely understand now. It must take a lot of energy for their five employees to answer my measly email and process my visa application while afk-healbotting in ToGC.

Damn. Who else prays for a server fail on maintenance day? innocent.gif

(I missed the nerdspeak from earlier... had to contribute.)

so emailing them to see if they have my documents and I'm on a waiting list is futile? I'm confused now. I'm pretty sure I have a right to make sure they got my freaken stuff and I'm on a 24957209541371 month waiting list. F'ing Montreal. ranting33va.gif

I uh, THINK the landlord knows I'm living here but isn't saying anything. We didn't outright say "Someone else is living here"
My boss is the one on the lease. She has no want to ever live here again.
Maybe I can get her to assign the lease to me...

Then in effect, you can continue on with the arrangement as is, and don't need to even mention anything to the landlord since they don't seem too concerned about you being there. Under normal circumstances, the lease would automatically transfer to a month to month agreement anyways unless your boss (i.e. the leaseholder) goes in and signs a new lease. You will not be kicked out. If your boss contacts the landlord and tells them they want to remain on as month to month then you're fine. you just have to give appropriate notice to your boss (which you will of course.. lol), so they can forward appropriate notice to the landlord when plans are made to move out.

So is the assignment something I have to have in the form of a piece of paper, or is it just a verbal thing that the landlord doesn't need to know about?
I just want to do this right, more or less.
Sorry that I've totally hijacked this topic, someone can separate it if they want to though.

It could be either or. If you have both discussed the situation, then yes it's a verbal agreement. However, I'd say the landlord does have every right to know who's living where, but I don't think you'd be held liable. It will be the lease holder since they signed the agreement. The thing I'd be concerned about would be the landlord asking you to sign on for another year on your own lease, if you want to transfer it to your name. It would probably be a good idea to talk to your boss, and have them tell the landlord the exact situation. That YOU are living there, but your boss is ok with the lease being in their name (if they still are). Then ask about just having it go month to month. The landlord would probably be ok with the situation as long as they knew the truth.

QUOTE (SapphireDreams @ Oct 16 2009, 07:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well it depends on what the lease holders tell you. If they allow you to stay, then yes. Otherwise, I expect the landlord would want you to sign a new lease for a year or something. I'd talk with whoever you're subletting from.

Really depends how how backlogged they are... worst case 4 months, best case 3 months, although some people have been scheduled within 6-8 weeks, but that's not really happening at the moment. With Montreal its always best to plan for the worst case scenario to be on the safe side.

Thank you Sapphire!

To be safe, i'd put your 'worst' case at 4.5 - 5 months. It'd probably be better to be earlier rather than later than your expectations

Think they'd notice if I had brick "flowers"?

it WOULD make it extra funny though... maybe you could throw a bunch of garters? laughing.gif

Varba is a mysterious phantom that shows up randomly then fades away ph34r.gif

I have the grandest idea of them all. It beats e-mails and phone calls, hands down. How about we all show up to Montreal and protest outside! We can make creative and catchy yet embarrassing signs that draw attention. Then, at the end of the day, they'll be so annoyed they'll work late and grand you all interviews just to make us go away.

I've already had mine, but I'm into helping! That and I just want an excuse to go back to Montreal..

With all the CR1's getting interviews next week, I'm hoping us July folks will get our interview dates next week smile.gif

That reminds me... are there any 'August' people? lol I see a lot of us sent P3s in July, and September, but don't remember anyone specifically in August

Let me know what they say. I did not send photos with my Packet either... just that one that was required to upload for the DS 160. I expected that it would be fine to bring them at the interview.

When places, like Walmart, take passport photos, they're required to date stamp them. Many places, i.e. the passport office, DO require them to be taken within a certain length of time, so photos can be rejected if there is no date. The medical office requires photos taken within 30 days, for example. You never know when you might get someone strict enough to care about the date. I don't know if, at this point, Walmart will redo them for you since it's been a while. It's definitely worth a shot though, because with the stamp it will also have the store info so they can tell you got them done there. I used to work at the Walmart Portrait Studio, where passport photos are taken, so I know. tongue.gif lol

So I just realized my NOA2 expires on the 7th. I know its no need to panic but I emailed them to request the extension just incase (I know that they usually extend the NOA2's automatically but hell, I dont trust them)

I think it's absolutely horrific that Montreal can't even get interviews booked before the damn NOA2 expires. That's f'ing RIDICULOUS.

Still no packet 3...I don't know whether to be mad or sad crying.gif

Try patient! It's good exercise for the waiting time between sending your packet back and getting and interview.

If it doesn't come in a couple weeks then I would be worried.

Agreed... it's only been a couple of days. Give it until next week AT LEAST before you get worried. At this point a day or two isn't going to make a difference

The problem with moving back in with the parents (and if you t hink trying ot move back in after 7 months, trying moving back after being on your own for 10 years hon.. lol), is that it's not a viable solution for all of us. For instance, my parents are an hour and a 1/2 drive away, in a small town with NO opportunities for someone like me. I'd have to quit my job, and what money savings would there be in that? lol I'd also potentially lose my E.I. eligibility, if I'm without work for too long before moving.. Anyways, I think I mentioned this before, but yeah, that just makes me that much more anxious about the procrastination of Montreal.
