I know I wasn't pinpointed in the language discussion, but wanted to jump in... lol Both myself and my SO speak English, and only English (I wish I was bilingual, but that's another story which I will refrain from telling as I might inadvertently blame my parents for that lack of cultural upbringing).

Anyhoooo... my sister-in-law is from Cambodia though, and English is definitely her 2nd, or possibly 3rd language. My brother does not speak any Khmer, so he can't communicate with her family except through her. She does well with English, but has a very thick accent, and sometimes issues with grammar, mostly just with pluralization. Occasionally we have a hard time understanding what she is trying to say, but if everyone is patient, we all get on the same page eventually... She's improved a lot though in the years since they've been married and in Canada (moving back to Cambodia though this summer). They plan to raise their kids in Cambodia apparently, and I think will raise them speaking both languages (since my brother only speaks English, and they'd be in an area where bilingualism is much more supported).

Which makes me think... for those of you in a bilingual relationship, will you be raising any possible children bilingually, or just speaking English? Just curious.

Allie... I haven't bought any wedding stuff yet... This will sound backwards, but we actually just got 'officially' engaged about 2 weeks ago. I know that's entirely backwards... hahaha but yeah. We didn't want to announce an engagement unless the 2 of us could be together to do it, and I didn't want to start wedding planning without it being official, so we waited until he was here visiting. It's funny, cause even though we knew we were getting married, and had already started the K1 process, having him ask me, and announcing it, and wearing his ring on my finger has made it feel COMPLETELY different. NOW I AM engaged!!! So now I started crazy wedding planning.. though we're trying to keep ours low key (LOL, let's see if that actually happens).
Anyways... LOL we can race, but I have a feeling whoever comes in 2nd is going to cry... lol! Yours might be faster via that embassy? Who knows. Funny we're exactly a day apart in our NOA1 though!

attaya... is it a good diversion. We spent last night on the phone/msn messenger collaborating on the creation of our wedding website... hehe

I was merely answering the question, as it was asked... i.e. how do I get my mind off it. Anyways... truce amongst all. lol

I just realized it is exactly 400 days until our planned 'family/friends' wedding ceremony in Canada (not the legal US one)... knowing that I FOR SURE have GOT to have my visa by THEN is encouraging... laughing.gif

Well I do feel lucky that I don't have to wait until whoeverknowswhen I get the visa before I am able to see my fiance again... however... we still go months between visits, and it's a HUGE expense to see each other. Despite being in neighbouring countries, we are still 2500 miles (roughly 4000 kms) apart. It's very difficult and requires a lot of sacrifice for us to see each other. We don't have a lot of money, and have jobs and other responsibilities that we also need to attend to for the time being... so it's not like we can just hop skip and jump on down the road when ever we feel like it, despite how it may appear in my timeline. I don't ever take these visits for granted, or forget how lucky I am to be able to see him at all... but please don't hold it against me.

Nill asked specifically "What do you guys do to keep your minds off of all this stuff?"... so I was just answering the question. I was not pointing fingers at anyone or criticizing specifics.. I was just explaining what I need to do. Of course my mind is NEVER off my fiance... EVER. And NOTHING in my life is more important to me than him. Will I check my status daily closer to when I expect to get my NOA2 (i.e. 2+ months from now)... of course.. but right now... NOTHING is going to be done... so it's just going to be more and more heartbreaking for me to see NO progress. I actually feel a twinge of pain every time I even DO try to check it... I know myself... and I know that if I dwell on the time apart, and the lack of progress, and so many other people in pain.. it will just lead to a very dark place for me. So please don't criticize ME for feeling that I don't wish to dwell on the negative aspects of this process. It's hard enough already. For ALL of us who are going through this.

How do I keep my mind off it? By going on with my life. By planning what I'm going to do in the mean time, and what I'm going to do after I move. By realizing that I have NO CONTROL over how long of a wait I am going to have, and am at the mercy of a series of complete strangers who couldn't care less about me as an individual. I DON'T check my status every day, I DON'T come on VJ every day and remind myself of how horrible this situation is. I go on with my life, I hang out with my friends around me, I go to work, I talk daily with my fiance, I plan my wedding. There are enough things in my personal life that I need to do and take care of without constantly worrying and stressing daily over something that I CAN'T do...

I'll say it again, just because Nill got a quick response doesn't mean everyone else in the April group will. Expedited cases take priority over every case.
Don't be concerned if you don't get a response for a few more months still, keep an eye on August. good.gif

Yes, exactly... much congratulations to them, but theirs was a special, expedited case, and won't reflect at all on what we can expect for regular cases. I doubt any of us will be hearing much for a little while.

That would be great.... if it put us all around July-August for processing the NOA2... I might be able to move early-November! Is that too wishful thinking? lol
It's all random anyways... there will still be some of us that will have to wait a full 6+ months, which is too bad sad.gif Just hope it's not me.. LOL *knock on wood*

Did you get a mail tracking receipt to know when they actually received it? I'm going to guess they got it around the 27-28th depending on what sort of mail you used (priority mail or regular, etc). You should (guessing) receive something maybe Friday, or by mid-week next week. But don't be discouraged if you don't! You never can tell with these guys unsure.gif

NOA1 Received today with a date of April 22nd. Should I put todays date in as NOA1 or the actual date on my NOA1 for the purpose of my timeline?

I think I would put the actual NOA1 date of April 22nd. Not 100% sure though

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone here is hating the waiting. We all have our unique circumstances. We didn't file until over 2 months after we originally wanted to as well, which doesn't seem like a long time, but ultimately will result in a biiiig snowballing hassle for me (the 'foreigner') come September.

Anyways... hang in there... it'll all be worth it in the end. smile.gif

To be honest I'm getting a little bit fed up with the ultra slow progress the CSC is having. It's been 3 weeks since sending them the form and they havnt even begun to look at it where as the Vermont centre is opening them within a few days of getting it. This whole process as a WHOLE is supposed to take 6 months and its nearly been a month where they havnt even opened it. It feels like time wasted and it's starting to get on my nerves. Would phoneing them do any good whats so ever or would that be a lost cause? Even just to enquire about it might make me feel a bit better.

What do you mean as a whole? From sending I 129F to getting the visa? My understanding is the NOA2 is processed in 6 months if we're lucky, then the packets, and the medical and interview and everything on top of that leading to more like 8-9 months... This thread here: http://www.visajourn...howtopic=195211 lends a bit of insight as to why it's taking so long right now though for the CSC to get moving on stuff.

Keep in mind, that as discouraging as it can be to see 'no' progress.. there's seriously nothing you can do about it. You might as well try to relax, and use your energy towards other things, like planning your next visit, or your wedding, or future life together in the US. smile.gif Or even getting ready for the next stage in the K1 process.

We're not planning anything big until all the paperwork is completed. I'm hoping the CSC has it's act together for me to be able to move in January, so we can have a small civil ceremony, just the two of us, perhaps on either 1/9/10, or 1/10/10 (the dates of Jan 9th and 10th/2010 look cool tongue.gif lol)... Then, either the summer of 2010, or summer of 2011, we'll return for a family celebration/reception with our friends and family in Canada. My parents are planning of moving out of Canada too though, to Cambodia, some time in 2010 or 2011.... and my brother and his family (wife and 2 kids) are also moving to Cambodia THIS year... so it depends on all their plans.. I don't want to have a big celebration with family and friends if my own family can't even be there sad.gif So yeah, mine's a weird scenario in that sense. lol

They have yet to cash my check yet... Maybe they will open it and approve it in the same day... hahaha. C'mon CSC be kind to us April filers.

The NOA1's seem to be coming pretty quick. You should have a check cashed by the end of the week or early next, then the NOA will be on it's way to you. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFillable G-325a for purposes of I-129F; Multiple questions
I have a question (or three) about addresses too.

Do they accept Rural Route Addresses
For example, my parents address (one of the places I lived in the last 5 years) is technically written like:
R. R. #0
Town, Province,
Canada

Would they accept that, or would they require the house number and road? It's out in the country, which makes them have a weird address with 5 digits in the house number, and a concession # for the road, and a township, and UGH.. yeah.. that weird stuff making it like 4-5 lines long. I'm not sure which address to put. The RR # is the mailing address, the rest is a 'physical address'... so I guess it'd be similar to a P.O. Box vs. physical address of the house.

Also, I know the main point is not to leave gaps in the time line, but there was a time where I couched surfed for a month and a 1/2, and stayed with a friend when i initially moved into a new town. Should I include that, or should I just extend one of my other addresses to fill in the time? Do they care and scrutinize that much? And do I need to include lease agreements to prove that I was at any of these addresses?

Also, in I have not lived anywhere for longer than one year in the last 9 years. Will this be a problem (other than having to remember/dig up 6 different addresses to put on the form.. LOL)? The last place I lived for more than one year was my parents house, which was from when I was 7 yrs old until I was 19. lol Otherwise, there are places that I have lived for ONE YEAR, but not MORE than one year. sad.gif Can I use those if it's exactly a year? i.e. Sept 2007-Sept 2008 ?

Thanks in advance smile.gif

I am concerned about what documents to submit along with my I-129F Fiance Visa application. I have not come across any of the "guides" that are mentioned in various links/threads and in the instructions for completing an I-129F it simply says to include evidence that I have met my fiance. In addition to the G-325A Bio forms for both of us I was planning on submitting
the I-129F form itself
copies of both of our passports (my understanding is that either passport or birth cert is required)
and whatever proof I can come up with that we have been together (photos, plane ticket receipts, I guess chat records from Gmail)

In reading through all of the documents that other members have submitted I am starting to feel like I don't have nearly enough. Can anyone give me some advice on 1) If I am missing crucial documents and 2)what those documents are. I am especially concerned about these police and medical records, as I have no idea what those are or how one obtains them!

Thank you so much in advance. I apologize for my naivety with all of this!

We do have quite sufficient hard evidence on our own, including hotel receipts, boarding passes, as well as photos and emails/phone records, etc. so the letter would really just be 'extra'... as an update, I think at this point, I've decided to save it for the interview, and perhaps just include one letter from someone on his side (he's the USC) who met me when i was in the US visiting him.

Hi all,
We're getting ready to file the I-129F package, and want to include statements from a third party (i.e. his parents and one of my roommates) confirming that my fiancee and I have met in the last two years. I know this is not really 'necessary', but we want to add it to be safe. I'm just not entirely clear on what wording we should use, or what information needs to be included, and how elaborate to make it.

What do you think of this?

Dear Sir or Madam:

I, [roommate], do hereby confirm that [petitioner] is in a relationship with [beneficiary]. I know [beneficiary] personally, as we are currently residing in the same house, and met [petitioner] in October of 2008 when he came to Canada to visit her. I confirm my knowledge that they are in a serious, ongoing relationship with each other.

Sincerely,

what you wrote is valid, and if it fits in the box then you don't need a seperate sheet of paper. you can write a Evolution of relationship letter and include a timeline of how you meet online until you actually met in person.

that's a good idea, would we both need to sign and date it?

No one responded to this. The declaration of how we met, and the letter of INTENT are different... I wrote a separate letter of intent, dated and signed it, and mailed it to my fiance to include with the I 129F when he send it in.... Would I also need to sign the declaration of how we met since it doesn't fit in the box on the form and will be a separate paper, or would it be sufficient if only he signed it???

I (the beneficiary) never signed the declaration of how we met or the letter of intent, only the USC petitioner. We had no problems with that good.gif

Ok thanks smile.gif That's good to hear. lol

what you wrote is valid, and if it fits in the box then you don't need a seperate sheet of paper. you can write a Evolution of relationship letter and include a timeline of how you meet online until you actually met in person.

that's a good idea, would we both need to sign and date it?

As long as he put the right PO box, city and zip on there I can't imagine it being a problem! It will get to the right place.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust sent I 129F - Address issue?
Hey all,
My USC fiance just sent off the I 129F petition today. He took some photos of the package for me to see as he was preparing it, because we weren't able to do it together in person. I just noticed that he addressed it to 'California Service Center' without including the USCIS in the address. WHY?? I have no clue... but is that going to be an issue?? USPS already picked up the package, and it was sent priority mail, so it should get there tomorrow morning, but still, I'm concerned.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof of Engagement?
I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. I would be in the same boat. I don't have an engagement ring (at least not yet, we JUST filed the I129F, so I don't know if my fiance plans to give me one on our next visit)... and we are not making wedding plans, because we're keeping it very very low-key (also just the two of us, probably just a civil ceremony). Thanks also for the advice everyone. lol

It's best for each of you to write your own brief letter, date it,and sign it.

Here's how I wrote it. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Dear Sir or Madam:

We, (Petitioner's name) and (Beneficiary's name), do hereby state that we are legally able and willing to marry each other, and we intend to do so within 90 days of (Beneficiary)'s arrival into the US using the K-1 visa. (Little summary on the relationship)

Yours truly,

I personally don't see the purpose to putting it on only one letter instead of two... but if you are going to do it that way, I would make the small adjustments that I bolded in the quote above there. Just a suggestion good.gif
