CanadaCriminal Record Check VS. Police certificate
UGH... ok I'm still unclear about this, and want to make sure I got the right thing.
I just went to my local police headquarters today and asked them for a background check for immigration purposes. One girl knew what I meant by background check, but was confused about the immigration thing because I wanted her to clarify for me that I was getting the right thing, and I think it threw her off and made her second guess herself... lol Anyways, some other lady working there came to help me and seemed to know what she was doing.

The wiki says
"Note: If you obtain your police check from the RCMP please note that there is a difference between "Criminal Record Check" and "Canadian Police Certificate" the Canadian Police Certificate has been found to be accepted."

Mine just says 'Criminal Record Search' at the top.. blah blah blah my info. dada dada... "DOES NOT have a criminal record in the RCMP National Repository for Criminal Records in Canada"....

I would think that's sufficient for what they're looking for, but the 'Canadian Police Certificate' terminology makes me feel like I have the wrong thing now cause mine doesn't say that. It cost me $40 (and I'm dirt poor, trust me), so I'll be pissed. LOL
Thoughts?

Does anyone know if this is something I can get done ahead of time, or do I have to wait until closer to the packet 3 arrival... we don't even have an NOA2, and I don't expect it until at least late August/early Sept, but I kinda hate waiting around for this onslaught of stuff that I need to do, and want to knock off a few things early... lol

I don't blame you! The check is good for a year, so getting it now may be a smart idea. I did mine early too.

awesome!! Thanks smile.gif
I was too overzealous with my passport photos needed for medical and what not, and thought they'd be good for a few months, but then ended up just wasting money on an extra set that is now useless... d'oh. Trying to learn from that mistake wink.gif lol

Notice how some are trying to shift the actual topic from how do you feel when your first love tells you they are getting married to don't allow your ex to be your best friend. Let's get this topic back on course - it isn't about being best friends with an ex vs your husband so don't try to change the topic to something that it isn't. Start your own thread if you want to discuss that.

Sorry but I believe the topics are related (the OP stated she is still close with her ex). If my first love told me she was getting married I would be "that's great, I'm happy for you" but there would be zero mixed emotions. Again I don't know the OP's situation but in general there is definitely a possibility of "emotional" cheating (or worse) in these types of situations.

The bottom line is if your ex is getting married & that bothers you there IS a problem!

I think it's a bit out of line to accuse someone of emotional cheating simply because she is friends with her ex. Like you said, you DON'T know her situation, so please refrain from these accusations.

Settle down... I am generalizing about this type of situation... only the OP knows her true feelings in the matter.

Don't patronize. It's insulting. I think you've said enough.

CanadaWhat to feel when your first love tells you he/she is going to be married...
Well actually I haven't had a chance to see this thread until now, so don't generalize between what women feel, and what men feel. That has NOTHING to do with it, and IRRITATES me when people think that women have a certain opinion just because we're women. SERIOUSLY, let's bring it to the new millennium.... Also, opinion is NOT truth.

Back to topic... I think your opinions on how you'd feel about your first love getting married depends on the strength of your relationship at the time, on what terms your relationship ended, and whether you keep in touch now. For me, the man I consider my first love, is married and living in a different province. I won't tell how I found out, because that could start an entirely different thread as well... however, I did run into his mother at the grocery store many years after he and I dated, we chit-chatted, and she mentioned his then-fiance, and sounded unhappy with his choice.. laughing.gif He DEEPLY hurt me at the end of our relationship, so that made me puff our a little with a selfish twinge of ######-glee.

I can tell you how my most recent ex felt though when he found out I was even DATING my now-fiance (we don't really speak anymore unless we have to for some reason... he doesn't know I'm actually getting married)... he accused me of cheating on him (which I did NOT do...I didn't even meet my fiance until I had already broken up with my ex and made arrangements to move out)... thus ending the friendship that quite possibly could've happened after our break up. Oh well! Certainly not my loss, as I am now with the man that I am ridiculously excited and happy to be spending the rest of my life with smile.gif

I weighed an okay weight.
There is something about my body I dont understand though.

3 months ago I moved into town to get out of my parents' house.
I walk about 25 minutes twice a day 4 times a week.
Yes, I ate my share of junk food, but not THAT much.

In those 3 months, I gained 10 lbs.
How am I gaining weight with like 8x the exercise I ever did back at home?
I hardly even eat junk food anymore now...

Anyone have any idea?
I don't want to go to my doctor about it unless I have to... she's not very helpful.

Did you clothes get tighter too? If not, might just be muscle build up.

Yeah... they got tighter at my gut, haha.
I can't even button up my size 12 capris anymore, and my work pants zipper doesn't stay up anymore.
My fiance thinks I'm holding in water, since I only go on my birth control's placebos every 3 months. (It got rid of my period, and periods every 3 months only last like a day and a half, might have something to do with it)

A lot of the initial weight loss in the first week or so is water, so I've heard. Might I go slightly off topic, and
ask what type of BC you're on? I'm on the patch, which is one per week for 3 weeks, then one week off. I'd love to go without a period.. lol that really opens a can of worms though, so yeah.. just curious what you're on. laughing.gif

CanadaWhat is your and your SO's song'?
Great thread!!

We have a couple of songs that have meaning for us, but don't particularly have 'a song' yet....
I try to get my fiance to allow this to be 'our song', but he's not going for it tongue.gif LOL (his name is Dan)

Also, this one totally makes us LOL every time (again, his name being Dan makes it awesomer), and I posted it on his facebook wall on St. Patrick's Day. lol

Recently this one has seemed appropriate sad.gif

And finally... this is probably the closest thing we have to being 'our song'... though I've changed my mind recently. Still a beautiful song that I really love, but the lyrics don't feel like they have the oomph required to be 'our song'. They seem too desperate.

CanadaAnyone here watch "The Proposal" movie?....
I saw it... thought it was cute, but it made me angry because, as people have mentioned, all the false impressions people will get about the process. I HATE having to explain to people that it's NOT that easy, and what everyone else has done that's been 'easy', was actually illegal.
And the interview the next week!? I wanted to punch someone.

But other than that, it's cute. I recommend it as a cheap rental, not a theatre worthy one. Save some $

Asia: East and PacificQuestions for those from Japan and New Zealand
Hi everyone,

Hope you don't mind me crashing your regional threads. ;)

A friend of mine from back home in Canada is wanting to move to New Zealand to live and teach. She is starting the immigration process for that, and is understandably a bit overwhelmed, so I'm trying to help as much as possible. I'm sure I'll add more questions to this later... lol

For now though, I'm wondering if any of you know the best way for her to get a police check for Japan? She lived and worked there (teaching) for about 3 years. I did a quick search on VJ here and it seems like it's a big hassle and will take a few months?? eww... Is that true?

Also, if any of you actually immigrated to NZ as well and can point me to some good websites about that, or just have some general information, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you, and good luck in your own journeys! :)

QUOTE (Trepko @ Oct 27 2009, 10:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
i am going through the k1 visa process with My fiancee who is in Canada, I reside in the US. I live with my parents. The interview date is finally set after over a year on November 13. But it says she has to bring Evidence of Domicile to her interview. (again i am in US, she is in canada and she is the one intending to move here) I don't know at all what this means she needs to bring or we need to do, I tried reading topics and after several googles I'm still confused. Could someone please help me?

Did you have a look at the instructions that came with the Packet 3?
They are now scanned and linked into the Canada Wiki Page. Have a look at the bottom of page 2, and top of page 3

PG 2

PG 3

They give examples of what can be used for Evidence of Domicile.

Thank you all for giving me cold feet!! laughing.gif No seriously, I'm 100% certain I've made the right decision, but reading everyone's experiences has really made me realize its not all rainbows and sunshine. There is a difficult road ahead, and thank you for preparing me now! I've recently realized I'm going to go from a fast-paced, busy, demanding life to sitting on my butt watching TV all day while my fiance/soon to be husband is at work and I have nobody to talk too...

Anyways, this thread isn't about me! I haven't posted because I'm not sure there is any advice I can give you aside from what the others have said. But I will say that the K-1 route has been very good to us thus far. I have my visa interview in Montreal at the end of the month... this means that I'll have my visa in hand less than 7 months from the date I filled the original petition. I don't think that's very long to wait for legal entry into the United States and the peace of knowing the rest of the immigration process will be much less painful then if we tried to do it in a sneaky way.

LOL! Well I'm glad you're so far as the interview stage at least smile.gif Good luck!!! And this thread is about everyone! I figured other people could pick up some information from my whining and questions... laughing.gif

Reba - An hour and a 1/2 drive seems like a lot of gas money (it's about $15-20 round trip), a lot of miles (kms! lol) and wear and tear on my car, and just a LONG way to commute to a job. sad.gif Also, the lease on my car is up at the end of October, so, be there any delays, I have no way to commute after that anyways if I'm still around... lol I'm going to try to work out an arrangement with my manager to see if I can work from home if I go to my parents.
