CanadaWedding idea
It doesn't seem weird, but keep in mind we here are all going through the visa process, so our sense of a 'normal' wedding is blown out the window. laughing.gif 'normal' people will think it's weird, but who cares.

My fiance also has dual citizenship, and originally lived up here, so all our mutual friends live in Canada, with his family scattered around. We're taking the route of doing a renewal of voes some time later (either 6 months later, or a year later, we're not sure), so that our friends/family can join us there. Not for religious reasons, just to be able to share and celebrate, and do the declaring love thing. smile.gif

I like your idea of doing it in Canada first... I wish I could do it that way (I can't, for a million reasons, but it'd be nice... I say go for it)

On the note of remembrance... Yesterday was the 70th anniversary of the day Canada declared war on Germany in WWII...

CanadaWhere were you when the towers fell?
I was in my 2nd year of college, and on my way to school and heard it on the radio. At school we gathered in the lounge and watched TVs for a while in disbelief, and looked up stuff on the internet during class. I remember saying 'omg there's going to be a war, there's no way something like this happens and they don't go to war!'. I wish I'd been wrong. I went home and my roommates had the TV on, and we continued to watch news all evening, trying to figure out what happened.
My brother was living overseas at the point (which he is again now actually), and I remember thinking that not having all of my family members within easy contact range was very frightening.

I didn't know my fiance at the time... Apparently his father lost some colleagues that day... sad.gif And he was supposed to fly out somewhere in that area that day but was delayed.

CanadaHaving a tough time...
I don't think I can add much of anything to what has been said, only to say that I do know what you're going through right now, but sort of in a different sense. My brother, my only sibling, moved back to Cambodia 2 weeks ago with his family... which included my sister in law, my 2 and a 1/2 year old nephew, and 3 month old niece. My fiance doesn't have any siblings, so not only are my only siblings gone, but these kids are my only niece and nephew, and probably WILL be my only niece and nephew ever. I won't be able to see them for regular visits, due to the distance, and cost of traveling there, and the internet there isn't that great, and neither is the mail system. So, I really don't know how I will be able to contact them regularly, and fear that the kids won't even know who I am if I ever do get to visit. I didn't even have a chance to develop a bond with my niece, but my adorable nephew is amazing, and I can't believe I won't get to see him grow up now... It's extremely heartbreaking... I know that with my own plans to move that I wouldn't have been able to see them much anyways, but from Canada to California is a lot different than from Canada (or California) to Cambodia! Say that five times fast...

So, I can only reiterate the encouragement to do whatever you can to make visits as often as possible, and stay in contact. Little care packages, or photo albums (or CDs and DVDs of photo slide shows and videos in the mail!), and the webcam thing will do wonders between visits. smile.gif Good luck, and I hope you know when you do have children that no matter where you live, or where your family is, they will always be available to love and support you and your husband and children.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Ontarkie, I appreciate the tidbit regarding Hepatitis B shot for my daughter. I called the HealthLink number here and they referred me to a travel clinic for the shot -- so I guess we'll go there! I know I'll have to pay out of pocket, but I don't mind, yay for AHC paying for just about everything else smile.gif

So just to clarify -- one shot of Gardisil is okay to pass the medical, but I will need to complete the whole set for AOS -- right? I would assume that if my daughter is midway through her Hep B shots that would be okay, too -- just as long as we complete the process before AOS (again, I'm a bit worried about getting everything completed in time).

Regarding Gardisil, does anyone know if you can still file a waiver after having the first shot? Just in case I have an adverse reaction.

Thanks again everyone! biggrin.gif

in the same position as you... what im doing is refusing gardasil on my medical next week that way when i get the interview they will ask me to go get it witch i will probably do... i am looking for a detox by apparently taking some zinc tablets everyday before and for the remaining time ill need it to be clean..
taking the fact i will take it after interview i will move after and do the aos... the panel physician will have to check that i don't require the second dose because it will be too soon and presto... (btw,,,zinc is to remove aluminum from body so im sure it will help at least fight that nasty ######)
and the one ill get next week..

keep in mind if u go to the interview without the gardasil, then go get it after the interview, it may take awhile for Mtl to send you out ur Visa in the ur Cdn passport after you mail them your proof that you got the shot. Might as well just get the shot and be done with it, less hassle

humm no it take less than a week... search for it on VJ some people did that and it took for one just a week to get it cause she went quick after to get it
and if you had read me you would know that if i do it its to not be forced to take the rest... and there will probably be like more than 2 months if i take it this week... so no lol... and its my health i know i don't want it but i cant go around so its my best option and i cant wait to be with my fiance i won't fill a waiver since it add up months,,

I don't' even think you can get the medical results back until you get all your vaccinations. So you would have to go to the interview without the medical results and therefore get an automatic denial until you get the medical results, which would require you to go back to the panel physician with the shot complete so that they can finalize the medical so you can send it to Montreal. So basically, you're creating a huge hassle for everyone (yourself, the medical people and the consulate). I know it's your health but seriously, you're going to have to get it... you're not going to get special treatment.... so you might as well just get the 1st shot and be done with it!

i think you are wrong, i do my medical next week and interview will be 3 month after ... i live in near Montreal so i can go get the result faster than the post... and also I DID SAID i want to take the 1st shot but ill take it only after the medical because you never know maybe that damn change in the immigration law about that dumb vaccine will change...
what im doing is legal even though its hassle i dare anyone to come and stop me! lol... i think we pay enough by having all those problem because they can't even figure how to send papers with good information...

also i need maybe only 1 vaccine so far cause i need a booster shot... so what ?
a waiver would delay for over 4 months when if i take the shots after the interview even if it will make me have a temporary denial i don't care cause it will allow me to not take the rest...

People with a head on their shoulder know what is best for them... and to me its not getting vaccinated for something i don't need...
not at 22 getting married and stable...

What does getting married and stable have to do with the Gardasil vaccine? I thought it was related to preventing cervical/vaginal cancer...

it does prevent you from getting VPH and vph can cause cervical cancer but not all VPH cause it.. it can also cause warts.. but people sexually active with different partner will get it.. if both you and your fiance are tested negative there is no other way to get the VPH if you are loyal to each other...
get information on the net...
im against this vaccine.. i see it as a way to make money on the back of innocent people that never ask questions

Gardasil is just a Vaccine for An STD and do not in any case prevent from getting a Cancer but more prevent in getting one of a deadly VPH strain that cause cancer... the vaccine just protect against 4 strain.. get my point... i got my pap test i dont have vph... and he doesn't either... so this is just useless and more aluminum and bad stuff in my body... i don't go to fast food restaurants on the same beliefs...

Well I don't need Gardasil because I am older than the age limit, so I haven't bothered, and probably won't bother looking up further info on my own as it isn't relevant to me. However I do get your point that you both tested negative so why get the vaccine, but that's not really the purpose of vaccines... i mean, I don't wait until I have the flu before I get the flu vaccine, right? Vaccines are preventative measures, not treatments. Yes, you're right that it doesn't make sense to get a vaccine for something that you truly believe you will never get, and don't want to get the vaccine, but unfortunately it's required for the immigration purposes. I don't think avoiding one vaccine could possibly be worth this hassle. I mean gosh, if everyone avoided things with really bad side effects then birth control would not be as popular as it is (have you read the side effects on those?? lol)

If you want to get technical, we filed our petition before we became engaged (since we wanted to wait to get 'officially' engaged during a visit rather than over the phone or something, but didn't want to wait on filing.) They don't care. lol

Since there never has been anything routinely called a "long form" birth certificate until the last US election, I presume you are talking about getting a certified copy of the birth registration as opposed to a birth certificate, which is the official certification that the registration is filed. I don't believe there is any part of this process that requires the certified copy of birth registration and not all jurisdictions will issue them. Luckily, you don't need it and a birth certificate, also known as a certificate of birth or certificate of live birth (since hospitals register stillbirths as well), is the standard for proving birth, age, citizenship, getting a passport, etc.

Unless your citizenship is challenged by a group of lunatic racists, you won't need to pay extra for the registration and a certified birth certificate is all you need to submit in this process.

Well how about that... laughing.gif

Attempt at an explanation : Fail.

sigh... that still gives me no clue as to whether or not I'll get an interview before the Christmas break or after.... I can't believe it's going to be SO CLOSE... I kept bothering my fiance telling him that every second counts... like, it took him an extra week to sent off the I 129F because he didn't get stuff done when he said he would (typical.. LOL), and then it took me an extra week to send off the Packet 3, because I was out of town for 4 days after it arrived, and then it was the holiday weekend so that delayed it more... this stuff adds up!!!! BALSRGHYSADU It's making me go insane. If they schedule me an interview for the week of January 11th, I'm going to seriously freak out...

money and distance are two big deciding factors when it comes to how often you can see each other... the longest we went without seeing each other was 6 months... it was hard for the hubby (BF at the time) to get time off plus the expense of flying and I was banned for a year so I couldn't go and see him either...

Yeah... it's hard to be able to see each other some times, depending on the situation... I took a month off in August to spend time with my fiance, but it was really, REALLY DIFFICULT to accomplish that. Was it worth it? Of course. Will I do it again? No. It's just not feasible, so I won't be seeing my fiance again until my interview day, when he'll be coming up to join me, and then hopefully help me move right away. It's too far, too expensive, and requires too much time to get from here to there to be able to have another visit. We always try to make it a week at the least, because it's not worth the expense and time for only a day or two. and there are lots in our situation.

This may be a silly question, but it's driving me crazy and I can't find info about it.

In the one section of the DS-160 it asks how long you intend to stay in the US.
There's no option that's "permanently".

Do I just have to guess in years?

That part just totally throws me off.

I know, I didn't like that either. I can't remember what I put... 20, or something. I tried to put 10+, but it wouldn't let me, so I'd assume you can't write words in there. Just something to show that it will be a long time though.

did that...thats where the 227 and 322 days came from.

They were too lazy to read your post laughing.gif

I'd say the CR1 number is pretty accurate at around 11 months.

laughing.gif Yeah sorry, I just skimmed it because I was at work, and everyone can see my computer basically if they just turn their heads. Covert VJ Operation = fail.

(side note... I completely agree with this: "way longer than you ever thought possible")

CanadaCr vs K1 timelines
QUOTE (neiks @ Sep 24 2009, 12:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Can anyone quickly tell me on avg how long a CR is taking as opposed to a fiance visa? And how much longer is does it take to get an EAD on K1 visa?

Timelines say:
K1 - 227 days
Cr - 322 days

Is this avg for Canada filers?

Have someone asking me about it and wasn't sure what the timelines are like anymore.

CanadaHey Canucks! Share your Recipe here
QUOTE (Kathryn41 @ Sep 14 2009, 07:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just received this recipe and it looked so good that I had to share it. The idea is really novel too:-).

If you want cake but don't want to make a whole one here is the best recipe.
One mug is enough for 2 people or 3 if you are not a big chocolate fan. Or you
can have it all to yourself.

Chocolate Cake in a mug

If you prefer to use measuring cups 2 tbsp = 1/8 cup, 3 tbsp = 1/5 cup, 4 tbsp = 1/4 cup. But let me say, clean up is way too quick if you just use the tablespoon - all you have to clean up when you're done is just one tablespoon and a coffee mug! This is so easy anyone can do it.

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.
Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world ?
Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

haha! I had this forwarded to me a few months ago by my cousin. I forwarded it to my fiance, and we made it "together"... i.e. at the same time via webcam. lol It was fun.

QUOTE (cjblack @ Sep 27 2009, 10:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We're sending it tomorrow from the US.. I want to overnight it or something similar.. guess I better figure out how I can do that to a PO box!

I had no problems sending it to a p.o. box. I can't find my receipt to tell you exactly how I sent it, but I know I sent it to the PO box. Just check with the post office. They'll let you know your options.

Hey there,

How did you guys send your packet three back to the consulate? I know that there is an issue with sending a courier as the address is a P.O box. I'd love to hear how you guys did it! (I'm assuming Xpresspost would work fine as there's a tracking number.)

I did expresspost, from what I recall. I paid for the speed of service that would get it there next day by 5pm, and it arrived before 8am anyways. good.gif

QUOTE (dutchmatt @ Sep 27 2009, 04:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
All you need to send is the following:

Checklist
DS-156
DS-156K
DS-160 (confirmation receipt)
DS-230

The reason the 156K mentions supporting evidence is because in the past that form was filled out at the interview, so you you have the stuff with you. It seems that the form is out date and dosen't reflect the new procedure. I sent in only the forms I listed above and everything is cool.

I concur. I did the same.
