Hey guys,

I just want to be sure. When the interview letter asks for a birth certificate, they mean yours, as the beneficiary. We don't need to bring the original of the petitioner, right? I can get it if I really needed it, but can you guys just assure me?

Thanks!!

You need to bring the long form birth certificate of the Canadian citizen applying for the visa.

I also received my P4 today. smile.gif the $400 thing gave me a heart attack almost, but yeah, I think it's for DCF. After that, it says: "For K visa applicants, the machine-readable visa (MRV) fee of $131.00 US or the Canadian dollar equivalent must be paid in cash on the day of your interview."

As far as a 'safe' time... I personally wouldn't book any moving plans for less than 10 business days after the interview, but that's me, and apparently I'm a pessimist. lol

Got my P4 today. I laughed at the statment in the letter that goes, "Please plan to spend the whole day at the consulate."

I laughed at this too... lol I'm SO very glad that books and magazines aren't on the list of prohibited items, though I think while I'm waiting I'll need a barf bag more than anything... tongue.gif

I got the new P3 as well, and contrary to popular belief it does NOT require you to send everything in. I know that's a different topic, but had to mention that. I know it's confusing.

Anyways, this list is great... thank you SO much. I will show it to my fiancé smile.gif

I was just wondering, for CR 1 visa, everything was asked to be submitted through mail. I.e. Birth certs, marriage certs, Affidavit of Support, fees, criminal check etc. Wasn't that the case for K1 visas? Or do you have to take all that at the interview?

some copies of those things were mailed, but most everything else needs to be taken to the interview. which is why we're all freaking out!

And I want P4. It better come this week.. like, Monday!

Yeah, we've picked our hotel, but are still hesitating on booking until we receive that letter. We decided to wait one more day and see if it happens to arrive tomorrow. Either way, we're booking the hotel tomorrow.

We've also decided to drive 8-9 hrs, instead of take the train... and to only stay one night instead of two. wacko.gif Almost $2000 worth of unexpected expenses this month (and that's NOT including any immigration-related stuff) has made us need to save money wherever possible.

Good job, Ashen!

Wow I feel bad. I only waited 43 days compared to some people who waited 100+ sad.gif

You are lucky, babe : ) It's all good, as I'm lookin from over here. I'm thinking wow! Think of all those people not on VJ... they scheduled a LOT of interviews for November.

The stat ashen put in the spreadsheet I think is more helpful than "Days from NOA2 to Interview" ... because in cases like mine where there is a 2 month gap between receiving P3 and sending it back, I'm skewing the numbers higher. 102 days is more accurate for me than 162+.

PS if you need a calculator for the date: http://www.timeandda...e/duration.html

Danu added that part re: the P3 smile.gif You're right... I think it's a more accurate reflection on MONTREAL's part... you never know what causes even the slightest delay on someone sending back their P3, and it messes up some perceptions on the length of time it takes for things to process.

Thanks for the calculator!

We're leaving the same day as the interview.
We're leaving for Montreal the day before.

Who knows when we'll get there though, haha.

So me and the hun will arrive on Thursday and I think we're staying til either Sat or Sun... Might as well make some kind of trip for this event because its already expensive as it is tongue.gif

I wanted to stay an extra day, but my fiance doesn't want to seem to spend the money.
I mean, if they're over booking, who knows when we'll actually get out of there.

Not to mention we have to go an hour further than Toronto. Maybe I can ask my parents to help us pay for the hotel or the train.
Trains are too expensive and I hate buses.

I hear ya... , our trip via train would be about 9 hours... bus is about 10-12 depending... there's NO way I can spend that long on a bus and not want to punch things. LOL Our justification for spending an extra night is a) not worrying about how long the interview takes (we don't have to 'rush' back to the hotel to check out on time), and cool.gif we're spending so much just GETTING there, what's another $100 to 'enjoy' it. lol Of course we don't really want to spend a lot, but no sense rushing everything, since it'll be already stressful as is...

This makes me wonder if they started 'over' booking... like this is likely going to take a bit longer than usual. lol

I'd LOVE to meet up with some people on the 20th... but I'll have to pass on the timmies.. I will seriously get sick. No joke. I'm not going to be in any condition to eat that day until this thing is over. LOL

We're also traveling up on the 19th, and staying overnight on the 20th too, coming back on the 21st. Figure that I've never been to Montreal before, and let's face it, will probably never go again, so might be nice to take the afternoon to enjoy the city smile.gif

Heck, I can skip Timmies now. My choice hotel has a coffeemaker in the room. dancin5hr.gif

That was my thought too... I'll never ever have a reason to be in Montreal, and after my bundle of nerves have calmed from the interview, I want to enjoy it. Yes, it's an extra $100 for another night, but I want to enjoy it. So 19th-21st sounded good to me.

Once I have the letter in hand, it looks like I'll be booking at Hotel Dauphin... Reviews look awesome, and the rates look good.

How trustworthy are these third-party sites, though? I've never used any of them.. and bidding sounds too complicated, but places like expedia/hotels.ca don't use bidding. Is it just that they buy bulk rates and resell them?

We actually use expedia for most of our bookings in the past... We've never had a problem. What sort of price do you think you'd get on the bidding sites?

We were thinking of staying at the Hotel Dauphin too. It gets better reviews than La Tour, BUT it's of course more expensive. I think the reason my fiancé wants to book there though is because my name is Daphne, and Dauphin kinda looks like Daphne laughing.gif (not gonna lie... I noticed too, but I'm not basing my decision on it. LOL)

CanadaUS to Canada calling . . . Cell Phone Providers?
I'd second the Vonage recommendations. I've had a Voange phone for over 4 years, and it's great. Unlimited US/Canada calling for $40. Is great.

As for cell phones though, I don't know. I just got the Net 10 prepaid as well (so I could have a cell that worked in the US), but haven't had it long enough to know one way or another. I would suggest looking into the text messaging plan as well though. Maybe check out Virgin Mobile. I have their cell in Canada, and it's great!

CanadaIn preparation For Interview K-1 MTL
Personally I think it's always a good idea to reprint and have copies 'just in case'. However, I wasn't asked for anything that I had already sent to them with the P3. As mentioned, you shouldn't be asked for another copy of your immunization records since they should be included with your medical. However, it is something you'll want to obtain a copy of anyways. There are any number of reasons why it might be handy. I'm not sure if yours is different than mine, but it sounds like it is. Mine's just a little yellow booklet, which basically fits on one page when I unfold it. That doesn't make sense, but either way. lol You could try taking it to a local immunization clinic, ask them to update their records to match yours (if they're not already the same), and they should be able to print something for you. That's what I did for mine when I got my most recent shots done.
ashenflowersFemaleCanada2009-11-25 23:11:00
CanadaLetter of intent to marry?
Question on this.
Should the letter of intent that is brought to the interview be re-addressed to the visa unit of the consulate, rather than the CSC or VSC? It would make sense... but just confirming.

The one on page 8 looks exactly the same as the one on page 12, except that a couple numbers are different and it has a huge 'CANCELLED WITHOUT PREJUDICE' stamp on it. The one on page 12 is fine. I'mmmmm kinda worried. Will they hassle this at POE? I have NO clue why there's an extra one on there. Does anyone else have anything like this?! You have a valid Visa and the packet . . . this should be enough for the border.

Why don't you email Montreal about this.

Paul Mayer (sp?) told me he put a note on the "CCD" screen for Sean to visit without activating the Visa. The border guards have access to this screen in their computer system. Maybe they can put a note on your "CCD" screen about the goof?

Yeah, that might be a good idea. I think I'll email them tomorrow. Thanks!

Erm, what on earth?

Are there any details on the first one that are incorrect, perhaps, that they had to reissue it correctly?

Do they have the same issue dates? If so, I can't imagine the POE can choose to ignore the second one.

Not that I can see. The only differences I noticed are the red numbers beside the petition info, and if you look at the expiration date... to the right of that are 4 little black numbers. Those are different. And the number/code written along the bottom is different by one number at the end. But that's it. Everything else, dates, names, etc, is exactly the same on both. sad.gif I wonder if I should call them? When I opened the envelope it was opened to the page with the normal one (the one WITHOUT the canceled stamp on it), so I didn't even notice it at first. I don't get it!!!

Well, with an unadulterated, correct visa, I can't see there being an issue.

However, if it were me, I'd call anyhow, just to see what's what.

Who would I even call in this case? It would still be up to the discretion of the POE officer I bet anyways.... omg this sucks a lot... ####### I'm pissed. THEY clearly made a mistake, since there IS the unadulterated, correct visa issued on page 12.
