... The only thing I worry about is his birth certificate... they made him older than he actually is...

Gee, no birth cert problems in China (see the Beijing Olympics Chinese woman's gymnastic team controversey wacko.gif ) laughing.gif

We don't have a birth cert problem but our girl entered school after homeschooling with mom and they screwed up her school age. So she is two years ahead of my son who is the same age. We completely expect that she will be placed into her age group year in the US school, same grade as my son. (both will be "our's" soon) Just funny how this stuff gets mangled.

You're comment just made me laugh and calm down. Thank-you smile.gif I needed someone to say something like that. It's just so bizarre to me that you can just march into an office and say that you are however old you want to be.

My sister in law had the same sort of thing when she was a school aged girl. From what I recall of the story, she was small for her age, so her parents said she was 2 years younger than she really is. laughing.gif I think she has some of her ID in one year, and some in another!

Ken, I'm so happy for you guys!! I was just thinking about you yesterday, wondering if you'd had any progress.

attaya, that is SO FAST! I'm so jealous of these quick interviews... lol I'm still going to have to sit tight for a few months (as I've mentioned). Oh well. sad.gif

I feel kinda guilty blush.gif Wish everyone got quick interview dates.

Kind of starting to freak out about the interview. Trying to stay calm and pray that everything goes smoothly.

Don't feel guilty! You guys have gone a long time without being together. smile.gif I'm excited for you!! And don't freak out. Everything will be ok, if you both just stay calm and be honest. You don't have any issues that would work against you. Everyone says the interview is the easiest part!

aww... SS, I'm so sorry to hear about the RFE. sad.gif But yes, as mentioned, once you send back what they're asking for your approval should come very quickly afterwards.

Good luck! smile.gif

Seems we are stuck at CSC.. Day 113 and still counting. It has been touched three times, the 27 & 28th of July and now just recently 10 August.. But yet.. Still No NOA2.. those in this thread have been getting approved an average of 85 days... Just wondering what is happening.. This is really, really frustrating.. wacko.gif

Hang in there smile.gif The fact that they're working on your case, and it's not just still sitting in a pile has got to be a good thing!

I called the NVC today, to see if they had our case yet, but nothing so far. No surprise though.. it's only been a week... wacko.gif

Thanks guys re: the address. I've been trying to call the NVC, at the 603-334-0700 number listed on our NOA2, but it's no success. It's either busy, or goes to some guys cell phone!? haha #######.
Oh well, my fiance is at work right now, but I'll have him give it a whirl when he gets home.

wow... that's FAST Jauque.... And the day before your medical??? Will they just say your visa is approved pending medical?

We received our NOA2 hardcopy last Thursday. I was hoping my fiance would wait until I arrived so that we could open it together, but he didn't know what it was, or wasn't thinking or something, and just opened it. sigh. Oh well. lol To his credit, I arrived a day later than I was supposed to, due to THE MOST ridiculous flying experience I have ever had. 21 hour delay anyone? yeah... don't get me started. lol

Also, I'm having to call USCIS for the first time (eek), to change my address. I'm just wondering how quickly does an address change go into effect, and when they will start mailing ME (the beneficiary) information? I'm concerned I'm going to miss things in the mail. I just called them and listened to a lengthy prompt that said things about changing the address online, or changing it over the phone, but needing to send in a form?! UGH. I just wanted to change the address. How do I even do that? I can't find a spot on the uscis website to do so. I know a few of you have had address changes, so I was hoping to pick some brains on that.

Allie, it will come soon. Even if you did sign up for e-mails, you might not ever get one. My case had been touched a few times, and I still haven't received an e-mail, and my case still says received and pending. Sometime real soon, you'll open your mailbox or your e-mail, and you'll see something from USCIS, and it'll be the NOA2 and then you can jump up and down with joy instead of tantrums smile.gif Hang in there. Crossing my fingers for you.

yeah I didn't even get a touch until I checked after we got the email. I don't think I checked on the 2nd or the 3rd though, but even so, it says the last touch was the 4th now. lol So it's weird. Such an unreliable system!

Not telling Nigel about all these approvals, it would just make him more antsy ...........ahh well...thats the rant of the day..........hope everyone's day is going well!

Sorry Allie,
I seriously think you will get yours soon. Did you sign up for email notification? If we hadn't, we still wouldn't know we had our NOA2, because my fiance hasn't received the hard copy in the mail. I really think you'll get yours some time in August. Don't fret! Just look at what the next steps are and see if there's anything else that you can prepare in advance smile.gif

haha-I should have a BYOC- bring your own cutlery note on the invitations. If you don't bring your own, then you have to eat with your hands!

LOL!!!

I think it's a really neat idea to have some of both cultures there. Not sure how people would feel about eating with their hands though... but then again I was hoping to have a BBQ for mine. laughing.gif But might just end up with some Hors D'ouerves (?) instead. I dunno!

This morning I was awaiting the mail lady in the courtyard and when she came she asked me, why are you out here waiting every day? I said it was a visa thing with my fiancee. I was waiting for notices from the DHS. She looked over the mail and, nothing today as she handed me the mail. Right there on top it was! I held it up to her to see and said, Department of Homeland Security... WOO-HOO! I danced a little jig as she smiled broadly. She said that her family came here from Puerto Rico so she knew the joy I was feeling. She congratulated me on the NOA2 hard copy. After she left the yard she was halfway down the street and yelled back to me CONGRATULATIONS with an upheld fist and a big smile. Nice.

Well we're not traditional in the sense that we're not getting married in a church, we're hoping to not have the reception in a regular 'hall' type of place, the reception is 6 months later, we're not having a bridal party or flower girl or ring bearer, we're having a small guest list, and not asking for gifts, not doing a garter toss thing. There's nothing wrong with choosing to wear a white or ivory dress, and there are many things that can make a wedding traditional, or not.

As for progress... there is none for us. lol Well, I sent off for the long for birth certificate online last night... it will probably arrive while I'm gone, which would be fine. Still no touches or anything on our case, but I'm not expecting any for another 2-3 weeks, so I guess that's ok...

My long form birth certificate arrived by Purolator.
I think they require your signature for it.
Just in case, you better write and sign a letter saying your mother or someone else in your family can pick it up, since I don't know their policy on others picking up your packages.

I don't live with my parents, but I can ask if one of my roommates can. I just got the 15 business day service, not the 5. Do you think that makes a difference?

I got the regular shipment and mine came in a few days.
But from what I know, if you're not there to sign for it, or if no one else is, you have to go to your closest Purolator office and pick it up, and they'll only hold it for so long. I remember I had to go 30 minutes away to go pick mine up.
So I'm sure if one of your roommates will be there that day, they can probably sign for it. I've also heard that if you miss the house drop off, you can call them to get it re-dropped off when someone's home.

Yeah, I'm NEVER home when mail comes, because I work days Mon-Fri. The Purolator office in our city is way across on the other side (probably about 30 mins too). It's kind of annoying. lol I've had to go out there to pick stuff up before. Will it have to be ME that is at home to get it? I can understand that it would need to be ME that picks it up if it goes to the purolator office, but that is what I could write a letter for, right?

So I've just spent the last hour pouring over semi-weddingish dress photos and now I just feel really confused, I think I like them but I don't really know what I like anymore. Who knew theres was such a huge market for a dress that a girl will only buy one of in her entire life (well hopefully). I get so caught up in the timelines I forget that the point of all this is that theres a wedding on the other end, well hopefully a marriage too.

I've definatly decided to wear a dress however. My fiance is going to blame all of you for him not be allowed to go in blue jeans anymore laughing.gif

laughing.gif
That's funny!! I definitely think you should dress up a little bit though. Don't have to go all out, but something a little nicer than t-shirt/jeans. smile.gif It's a special day! Even if you are just going to the courthouse, or whatever. We were going to get married at the courthouse, which I was ok with, but my fiance decided we should go a little fancier, and we can have our officiant go anywhere around town that we want. You should look into doing that. Where exactly are you getting married? Sorry if you've already mentioned it and I forget. I have a lot of info flowing in my head right now.

Speaking of wedding dress prices, is under 600 too much for a designer name brand dress?
I don't even have an exact price for mine, but I Know it's under 600.
My mom just seems to be iffy, so I'm wondering if 600 really is too much.
As far as I know, that includes alterations, since you have to send away your size measurements and they make it for you.

I don't think it's too much, especially if it includes alterations, and is a brand name. My budget was originally $300-400, but I'm going to end up paying a bit more than that when all is said and done. smile.gif

soooo glad I didn't call my mom yet! lol

And good points Danu. smile.gif I think if I got the NOA2 while I was there, it'd be perfect timing.

Allie, that's a great deal on a dress! Mine, as simple as it is, is still $425.. I couldn't convince her to give me a sales price, so that's the regular price, which I guess is still pretty good. I'm hoping I won't need many alterations... Would like to keep that to under $100, then I'd be happy.

well.....in the spirit of gently changing the subject-I keep having the weirdest cravings!!!! I NEVER ate fast food before, but since March, I've eaten soooo much of it. Right now, all I can think about is curly fries and a bacon cheeseburger---oh-did I also mention that I was a vegetarian before I went to Senegal? Watching "Friends" and eating junk food sounds like a great plan for my evening-not going to be able to keep indulging this way when my little runaholic fiance gets here and expects me to go running with him everyday tongue.gif and I HATE running. Ugh.

Thanks Danu, and all re: the dress.

SS, I LOVE that dress that Jenelyn picked out! So cute, and beautiful! I like the short ones. smile.gif

I wish there was a David's Bridal near me, but I don't think so. If there is, it's in Toronto, which is a 2 hour drive away. Not too bad, but far enough. I don't buy many things online, and have come to realize that I reeeeally need to try stuff on before I decide if I like it. laughing.gif I'm jealous of the David's Bridal deals! My dress is still pretty cheap, but a slight bit over my budget. Are you guys getting any alterations done, and if so, how much do you expect it will cost?

Back to NOA2.... for the support financial documents that are needed for the next steps... how long has it taken for you guys to get them in? My fiance hasn't got his yet, and I'm a bit concerned.

As for Vegas weddings, we looked into it a bit when we were first weighing our options, and came across some really funny ones that let you have themes and what not. Can't remember what they were now though sad.gif If I find them, I will post them.

And SS, don't worry, there's still a good chunk of us (myself included) still waiting for NOA2. Hang in there!

Allie, definitely do a dance anyways if you want! Who says you can't! smile.gif But you're right.. it's one less thing to worry about! laughing.gif

Attaya, all I can say is go for the dress in the style that YOU want. I almost got suckered (lol.. kinda) into getting this dress, which I didn't like as much. I DID love the beading design, but didn't like the style of the straps, and didn't like the straight/square neckline, didn't like the train, it was too heavy, too 'gowny' and traditional... etc. So I was actually super upset with myself for having let myself be sold on that one, just because my friend loved it, and the sales lady (pfft), also liked it. It's not a BAD dress, but it's just not me, and didn't suit our wedding's style. (clearly it's too tight around the mid-section.. lol but that would have been altered.. but it doesn't matter cause I'm not wearing this one!)

INSTEAD.... we went back shopping again and here's the dress I'm ACTUALLY going to wear. I liked it a lot better than that other one. There were actually other dresses that I liked more, but they were either out of my range, or on the sales rack and not my size sad.gif So that was disappointing, but I'm happy with my choice now!

I'm holding it in front of me, so it hangs a little better to give you an idea (was too small, so a little bunchy at the hips. lol). It will obviously have a better shape to it along the sides, and won't hang so boxy, once it's laced up and fitted and all that, but you can kinda see the basic idea. It's chiffon, has the cute lacey back, and beading on the back as well, and some sequins on the front of that part that kinda droops along the angle there. No train, very light and comfy, and comes with a little sash/shawl/scarf thing. smile.gif I don't like the beading design as much, but I can deal. lol I'm picky, but my size and budget don't fit picky... hahah On the plus side, I have a gold locket that my aunt gave me that I was hoping to wear, and I think it will go with this dress a little better. I'll get a better picture once my actual dress in my size comes in and what not. smile.gif These ones I had to sneak quickly in the dressing room... hahah
Both dresses are ivory. Not sure if the lighting has it.

Anyway.. for the guys, a monster truck wedding cake: laughing.gif

So anyhoo.... in semi-related news. I went dress-shopping again today (sorry Neil, I'll spare you and won't post pics), and I found MY DRESS. I had thought about getting a different one, but completely changed my mind. There were a couple others that I liked more, but either didn't fit (and were on the sales rack, so I wouldn't have been able to order it in my size, which made me sad), or were over my small budget. So, it was a slight compromise, but I actually really like it. It's going to be appropriate for our scenario and atmosphere of the wedding. smile.gif It's very pretty, and I look great in it.. HAHA.. true.

I will post pics (sorry Neil) when it comes in (hopefully December). Should I be concerned that they didn't take my measurements before placing the order? She just 'assumed' what my size would be...

Anyways, I figure I will get my NOA2 within the next 3-4 weeks, realistically speaking... I'm getting nervous when I realize that I will be going away for a month in just FOUR DAYS!!!! I have so much to do.. ack!

As for the first dance, I don't know what we will do. We want to do something kind of fun and different. Have batted around some ideas, but not entirely sure yet.

Oh, also, I'm a little sad today... I'm at my parents house right now, because they had a gathering of family for a goodbye BBQ for my brother and sister in law, and their 2 children (my niece and nephew obviously). They are moving to Cambodia this month. Today was the last time I'll see them for.... I have no idea how long... a year, minimum. My niece is only 3 months old, and my nephew is 2 and a 1/2. They will be completely different the next time I see them, and my niece won't know who I am, and my nephew, well... i'm just hoping he remembers. I'm really sad about that.... cray5ol.gif My brother is my only sibling, and my fiance doesn't have any siblings, so that's a big percentage of my immediate family that's away now! sad.gif

awwww.... attaya... that's so sweet/cute/nice.. lol I think that's a good idea for the dress, and wonderful things you are doing to get ready to make Lamine feel at home. I'm really going to miss the snow when I move, but apparently if we drive for a hour or two we can get to some snow, so that's better than nothing I guess.. but it just won't be the same! I love snow angels!

awww... I wish I could go on VJ at work without guilt.. lol but I can't sad.gif I miss so much.

You guys should just make yourselves be stupid busy and not have any time to think about the visa process! it's working for me! LOL! I'm moving tomorrow, then a week later going on a month long leave. I'm excited, but nervous. And I'm nervous for my Kitty. lol She's staying with a friend of a friend, who has 2 other cats, and she's not a fan of other cats I don't think. eek! My options were so limited! LOL
sigh.... oh well..
my computer is also breaking, and that makes me really sad sad.gif I might end up getting one when I'm in California, but am annoyed at potentially how much I will have to pay when I go back through customs on my return. Ah well.

Anyways, here's hoping the NVC gets their act together and ships off everyone's stuff to the next stage asap!!!! No fun doing all this waiting only to be faced with MORE waiting!!

so we are both going from ontario to california??? AWESOME!!! Where are you going to be ending up? My Fiance is in Santa Ana.

lol biggrin.gif We are indeed! Yay us!

I'm going to Santa Barbara. smile.gif I'm not really a 'beach' kinda girl, but I think I could get used to it! laughing.gif

I'm a May filer, but I live in Ontario and my fiance lives in California tongue.gif

He lives about 30min southeast of LA. He's more inland so not too close to the water, but the water is still close enough.

You have to either be homeless or a Millionaire to live close to the water in California. I'd rather be a Millionaire, though. innocent.gif

lol it's true... wacko.gif It's the only reason I'm not in California right now, waiting out the visa process entirely... we can't afford it! LOL

Once things calm down and we get some freedom under our belt, in terms of not dealing with the stress of the system, we should really consider a VJ meeting in SoCal!! Seriously!

Anyways...
Shewack, I've started getting the forms together. Going to apply online some time this week or next for my long form birth certificate, and I have my police certificate. I wish I could go ahead and get my medical done already, but can't without NOA2. Anxiously awaiting that.. lol Welcome to the Aprilas fun!

As for usagroom, he changed his username, but I'm not sure why he wouldn't still be on Igor's? That wouldn't depend on the username would it? I dunno. I always get the lists messed up. laughing.gif

wow.. I go out of town for the weekend and a lot has happened! I won't comment on all that has happened, but most of all, OMG ATTAYA!!!! I'm SO happy that you got your NOA2!!! How exciting is THAT?!?! YAY!!! Now on to the fun part that zooms fast (from what I've heard). smile.gif I hope that makes you feel a little better and your co-workers will now comment on 'wow! you look fantastic again!'... hehe

I hope the rest of us get ours soon! Although, I'll admit, I'm worried about getting mine too soon and being stuck in California without the ability to make any progress on our end laughing.gif But I guess the next part is still just waiting for it to get forwarded here and there, so that's not so bad. The main thing I have to remember to do is for my fiance to get his support info, and I have to get the long version of my birth certificate and what not (I've already got the police certificate). I've started on my end, but he hasn't really on his. lol typical. Oh well. Yay for everybody's NOA2!
