IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPetitioner to visit his wife (while the CR1 is pending)
He may be asked a few extra questions when he says he's going to visist his "WIFE" - but he should have no problems once he explains. My husband once got pulled into secondary questioning but once he could prove I WAS THE ONE MOVING they will let him in no problem.

We have the same wedding anniversary! Happy 1st anniversary to you and your hubby!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureshow long will take the petition I130
Ours took 7 months and 3 weeks from NOA1 to NOA2 - VSC is known to take longer than CSC but who is to say if either will actually meet their "target timelines" they have been saying that for a while...

Thanks Frali. My nerves are a mess right now but i am oddly calm. smile.gif
I guess cause i believe that after all we have been through we deserve this but it is all in God's hands now. biggrin.gif

Well best of luck to your husband on Feb 9th - you have both prepared and double checked everything - you'll be fine. You do deserve it after not being together for almost 2 years - and your daughter too! That's a long time!

CanadaPOE Windsor/Detroit, Ambassador Bridge
Border: Windsor/Detroit, Ambassador Bridge
Processing was very easy, pretty quick, polite.

We waited in our car in the queue for about 10 min, drove up when it was our turn. The guy in the booth talked to us for about another 10 min. He asked when we were married, what we had in the U-Haul (I told him I had a list and he said to keep it handy), whether I was bringing any pets over, which type of visa, etc etc and then gave us a yellow paper to take to the office. The officer actually joked with my husband about where he works and asked him some questions about the company he works for pertaining to the some stuff that was been in the media. They had a little giggle together. I had no idea what they were talking about. He then told us to drive over to the building (he had radioed his colleague to expect us) and we would be told where to park.

We drove over and where met by the next person. My husband was trying to park where the officer was yelling he wanted us to be. He was a bit rude. We were told to park and leave everything unlocked and to take only our ID, sealed envelope from interview/papers, wallets/purses and keys into the office. Once in we had to be signed in with our passports and they took our keys. We were then told to "take a few steps back" and wait for a counter to call us. I went to sit down and another officer yelled at me to listen to what I was told and stand there. Yikes.

Our name was called by a lady behind the desk. She was being trained by another officer who was very nice. As he went through and explained the step to her she asked us a few questions (which type of visa, which one of us was going where, etc.) and then asked for our passports and then the envelope. I had to verify the address I would be moving to and then we were told to sit down and they would call us back. After a while they called me to put my finger print in a little box (with ink) and sign my signature in another box. She told me these would be for my green card which I would get in the mail. I sat down again.

They called another time to ask my about the K-3 I had also applied for as they had papers for both in the mysterious sealed envelope. I told them it was the CR-1 I was activating because they were both approved at the same time. They laughed and said "Really???" Yea. They looked sorry.

They continued going through everything together and I listened from where I sat. He sounded like a good teacher. They were very courteous and polite when they called me back and told me all the info about renewing before the 2 yrs are up or I will get in a lot of trouble, about crossing back and forth, about being able to work with the stamp in my passport, about the green card coming to me in the mail... the regular info... then they said "Welcome to the United States of America". I giggled, thought it was funny.

We went back over to where we had signed in and got our keys and went outside. I thought they would still want my list and to have a quick peek inside the U-Haul but they didn't ask for anything and we got to leave! Super easy!! Nothing at all to be stressed about. Took 45 min in all and that was mainly because the lady was being taught the process.

Well I am proud to be Canadian. We don't fly any flags at our house, but I do have a Canada flag as the front license plate on my car.

CanadaHave to have surgery...UGH
I had to have a few bone scans and MRI's when I was still in Canada and they lost my file and a bunch of other stuff so when they found it again I was on a "call list" and I got slotted in at 4am or something which sped things up... I was far down the list but think of all the people that don't answer, don;t call back, can't get to the hospital at that hour, or just say "no thanks, I'll wait"... Get your name on their and keep your fingers crossed - you just never know!

CanadaTips for Montreal interview?
It's the biggest anti-climatic thing ever! You'll seriously laugh at yourself afterwards for having been nervous! Just have your interview letter, passport, the 2008 tax stuff from your spouse/spnsor, photos and don't forget your Xpress envelope!! If you get there first you could be out in as little as 1.5hrs or if they are having problems with the finger print scanners or their computers then it could be 4+ hrs! Seriously - I was there forever but only spoke to people at the counter/in the little "closet" room for 10 mins total!! I spent more time making friends with other people in the waiting room!

CanadaWhich date do you celebrate?
We did not tell anyone about our legal courthouse wedding which was on Valentine's Day - it was just to get the ball rolling on our immigration stuff (not to downgrade the importance of marriage) and although it ment something to us we didn't tell anyone we were married after that. We did get dressed up and go on a special date/dinner afterwards up the CN tower, but it was just for us.

All our friends and family were invited to and know about the formal wedding which we had 8 months afterwards and so that is the date we celebrate and make a fuss over. It was the day we said vows we wrote and got emotional and to me that day will be our wedding day. The only time we have to remember the other date is when it's on forms and stuff.

We do celebrate both - just one we celebrate openly with everyone and the other is more our own private celebration. If I was getting a date engraved I would get the formal date when we exchanged our "real" rings and said vows. But then again, why not get both???

CanadaHow long after the interview did you wait before you got your visa??
For those that took a long time getting their visas, maybe they could share their experience with us. Was it a SUCCESSFUL interview and there was just some screw up with the visa or was something further requested at the interview? (Therefore not counted in our poll as a straight-forward SUCCESSFUL interview)

CanadaBridezilla Update...(I think I'm OK posting this here...)
I am not one for giving advice - as Amanada said I'd usually let people learn for themselves - but the BIL should at least be encouraged to postpone the wedding. He needs tiem to decide if this is what he really wants. No one should get married if even there is a HINT of uncertainty!! Even the marriages that start with both people being 100% are not always successful. IMO, the last thing anyone should do is start one with doubts!! If he delays the wedding they can try to work on things and see if he's really sure this is what he wants.

(Hopefully, if he's lucky she will follow through with her crazy threats of "everything being over" if he calls off or delays the wedding and then all his answers will be decided for him and will be better in the long run!!!)

I did the same as the others typing a nice MS Word doc and numbered boxes. As most people said - they did not want to see the list. They just told us to unlock the U-Haul trailer while we went in at the POE to process my visa. To be honest I don't even think anyone looked in it!!

CanadaHas Anyone Applied for Cdn. Passports for Children born in USA
You will need photo ID to apply for the Canadian Citizenship card, so if you don't already have US passports you will have to get them first. Use that to get the Citizenship Card

With that you can apply for the Canadian Passport using the application for Canadians living in the USA.

I think Canada might be speeding up. According to our Senator's office there was a backlog in MTL due to "lack of staff"... hopefully the # of days wait until interview will go back down... the l yes.gif ast couple that got them seem to be! And Canada def is not ONLY scheduling the first 2 weeks anymore. They have been giving out interview dates any old time they feel like it (and as OBX mentioned even the day after being told to "call back next month")

I hope the wait time will come down, we haven't seen any sign of it yet here, except for one interview and that has happened before.

The scheduling continuing until later in the month - that has always happened.

But it used to be lower, then it went up to 100+ days, then back to 90's, then 80's... and the more recent ones are 70's... that's a good sign right??? That's 30 days!!!

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview
Yesterday I recieved a letter from MTL for my K-3 interview on April 15th. My CR-1 interview is May 20th, and since I am visiting my husband right now I will not be taking the April 15th interview slot or trying to see if they will switch that interview to the CR-1 (which was the only reason we followed the K-3).

It may indicate there are still some time slots in April (maybe just for K-3 and K-1's???) and that they are still assigning them. Inside my envelope I also recieved someone else's letter for a K-1 interview also for April 15th. My mom (who opened the mail) is mailing that person's letter to the address on their notice right away. Imagine??? That would be horrible never even recieving the interview!

Hey, I am writing a quick note. We had our interview today. Everything went well, but they said that we were insufficient with our sponsorship stuff. I had a joint sponsor and they are requiring a I864A, so I am hoping that is for my mom because I don`t have anyone that lives with me. I am asking my mom to fill it out because she was on my father`s taxes. It is weird they say he doesn`t have enough income because he alone without my mom makes more than 25% above poverty level... so anyways... we have to send it in and then they will send it to us via mail and they said to expect 4 weeks for us to get it. *sigh* another hurdle and I am not sure I understand it completely. My husband doesn`t have internet at his house, so... I probably will not be able to view the responses to this until I get back from Canada. Good luck to everyone who has their interview.

Is it just a I-864A they want? Can you not have your mom download it to save time? You might be able to assist if there are any internet cafes near your husband's place. If not, I doubt it will take that long in the mail - they always say that but it shoudl end up being les stiem than that anyhow! Good luck with that and I am sorry to hear they are making you do extra - at least you are closer to an end to all this!! Please let us know how it goes!
