CanadaPOE Experience
As soon as we have my computer and things set up, I'll be back to post a review. Just wanted to let folks know that when I was in speaking with the border guards, they stamped my I-94 Employment Unauthorized. Is that normal?

CanadaI-130 approved

Cool...thanks Sprailenes. Not home, but a lot closer than North Bay.

CanadaDo any of you do this?
Closest cam I'll get to my hometown is going to be North Bay ON. Cochrane only has a population of 5,000 and have no street lights at all.

I'll have to keep checking the homepage for Cochrane to see if anyone is updating it (probably not) and reading the paper online to see what is happening. I do talk to my daughter daily and my sister every few days.

I have a lot of people on MSN that I can chat with too. I just have to remember the time difference of an hour between here and there.

CanadaSSN question
So it's best to get the SSN in my maiden name and not wait until we are married. Larry seems to think it would be easier to get it after we are married. Just prolongs us doing other things, like my licence, banking, etc., right?

CanadaChanging your name
For 46 years I've gone by my name - Gordon. I'm not sure, now, that I want to give that up. My family is very close and although most of my sisters took their hubby's name, I'm thinking that if I do, it will be hyphenated. Besides I believe there are already 2 other Mrs. Knight's out there - do I really want to be the 3rd?????

By keeping my maiden name, it would be easier on my daughter as she carries her dads name and all her documents have my maiden name on them.

Guess I should talk to Larry about it. I don't think he'll mind me keeping my name. If I do, then we can go a apply for my SSN and DL rather than waiting until after we are married.

So many things to consider and decide on. wacko.gif

USCIS Service CentersNOA2 to NVC
crying.gif .. this was not something I wanted to read. I suppose that could be why we haven't heard anything from NVC. I was so hoping that I would be with my fiance for New Years'.

This process is really a patience builder.

Hi everyone. As you can see from my profile, I'm new to VJ. My fiance lives in Chicago and we started our journey in April 2007. We received Notice that USCIS have approved our I-129F as of September 27, 2007. So now we wait for NVC to do their thing.

What I would like feedback on is this - is Montreal really slow at providing interview dates?

They are not AS slow for I-129F's because you don't have to go through the full NVC pre-screen, but they are SLOW....

The full NVC pre-screen .... what would that be ..

CanadaGetting ready for driving in the US
Hi Nini...I'm new to VJ. We are waiting for NVC to send our application to the consulate. Anyway, you will get your DL in the states without having to take the written test or the driving test again. Wow...I guess if I were to visit the LB here in Ontario, they should be able to tell me if I'll be that lucky when I move to IL.

CanadaOttawa Consulate?
Hi...I live in Northern Ontario and was hoping that I'd be able to have my interview in Ottawa too. As others have pointed out, its either Vancouver or Montreal. Vancouver seems to schedule interviews quicker than Montreal but I have no intention of flying to Vancouver. I'll just have to draw on my patience a little more and wait for Montreal.

Congrats....we received our NOA2 on Sept 27. So like you, we are now waiting for NVC. ClockWatch2.gif I believe we will be dealing with Montreal for our packages / interview. Hope the time passes quickly... smile.gif

Too much thinking going on in my head I guess. Why does the CSC insert dates of validity? I'm looking at other timelines and some have only a couple of months while others have 4 or 5 months till their interview. Our letter states that its valid from 27/09/07 until 26/01/08. Does that mean that I'm guaranteed to have my interview on or before my birthday next year....... unsure.gif

Canadaquestion about importing personal stuff
QUOTE (mopsie @ Oct 8 2007, 04:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi,

I have a question for my crossing the border in a few weeks. In the Guide to Customs Regulations, it says:

Books, Video Tapes, Computer Programs and Cassettes
Pirated copies of copyrighted articles (unlawfully made reproductions or articles produced without the copyright owner’s authorization, e.g., music CDs, toys, clothing with cartoon characters, etc.,) are prohibited from importation into the United States. Pirated copies will be seized and destroyed.

Now I have some classical music cassette tapes that I recorded off the radio. Should I not bring those? My mom also gave me some music cds that she had copied off of old vinyl records at least 30 years old. Would the copyright from 30 years ago still apply today? Are they going to be a problem? Anybody have any experience here?

Thanks

liz - you telling me i have to itemize everything i'm taking across the border..... crying.gif ...i better start now cause i'm going to have a u-hual of stuff.... laughing.gif
