CanadaAny of you planning to immigrate back to Canada someday?
Seeing as I'm not a US resident yet, we haven't even talked about moving back to Canada. We may discuss living here in the spring and maybe the fall. I know we won't live here in the winter as it gets to temps sometimes of -40 to -50....brrrrrrrrr

CanadaAP
Information that I can tuck away for future reference.

I haven't had my interview as yet. My daughter graduates from grade 8 in June and I want to be here for that special occasion. As well, we have set a date for a church blessing for our marriage.

Can anyone give me an idea of what the timeline is like for receiving AP?

CanadaCanadians and U.S. SOs of Canadians
I voted yes. After working for 27 years, I'm looking forward to a break. The longest time I've had off was 5 months when I had Kelsie. I think that after I've been off for a while, I'll be looking to do something. May not necessarily be for pay, but just for the sake of doing something.

Time will tell.

CanadaFavourite Christmas Movie
Mine would have to be Beauty and the Beast - An Enchanted Christmas with How the Grinch Stole Christmas coming a close 2nd. I also like watching The Bells of St Mary's; White Christmas; Santa Claus 1 & 2. As for a dislike, not many Christmas movies that I don't like - I've never watched It's a Wonderful Life...maybe that's a good thing.

Nudie photos might be toooo frightening.

perogies-don't make me sad. perogies are little bundles of happiness. potato, cheese, and dough-what could be better.

my money's on IR5 being escorted out of a Montreal pub right about now

continuing with the spelling tradition:
P-E-R-O-G-I-E-S -- and yes, they are bundles of joy. DOES ANYONE HAVE HOMEMADE PEROGIE RECIPE = WILL EXCHANGE FOR NUDIE PICS OF IR5

As for IR5 being escorted out of a MTL dive not pub sister, let's face it, it would be the worst possible drink hole yes.gif I am with you on the bet.

Check out recipe topic...I just posted a recipe for perogies.

Wow...sounds like an interesting day. "How did you meet?" Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. Some people have no sense. To approve one and not the other....*smacks my forehead*....maybe he should have had a V8 before work.

I hope things move along much smoother from here on.

CanadaThe K1 Interview in Montreal
It seems as though you had a painless interview. Except for the nerves, which I'm sure everyone experiences, all went well. You had your fiance with you - that in itself would be a relief.

Congrats on your approval. God speed you to your destination safely.

CanadaConsulate contact fax number please...
Usually your petition is sent to NVC before it goes to the US Consulate in Montreal. Did you receive a file number that begins with MTL? If not you need to contact the NVC in New Hampshire (603-334-0700) to obtain your file number.
After you have your case number, you can email MTL with the case number to find out about your packet 3.

CanadaTaking children across the border
QUOTE (KarenCee @ Dec 29 2007, 09:39 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
QUOTE (Melyssa @ Dec 29 2007, 07:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Does anyone know what the rules are for taking children across the Canadian/American border (of course with permission from the parents) that aren't your own, or with just one parent?

I'm curious about that for the following:

* My American husband and I taking some of my Canadian siblings who are younger than 18 across the border to visit us (when I'm allowed to travel) without parents or possibly with just one parent

I would assume you need a notarised letter saying the parent of the siblings knows the travel plans and has given permission.

* My American husband and I taking some of our young friends (not related to either of us) across the border to Canada so they can meet some of my siblings who are their age

I would think the advice above would be appropriate in this case too.

* One of my parents taking some of my siblings across the border without the other to visit us

As long as the other parent knows the plans, and there is no custody issue involved, I can't see that it would pose a problem.

* A good friend who is divorced taking her children across the border to visit us (does she need notarized permission from her ex-husband?)

She WILL need notarised permission from the ex husband. I know this for fact as I have done this twice. It has to be notarised.

Thanks. I am looking up the info but we greatly appreciate any help!

Hope this helps some. I'm sure someone will come along and offer other advice about the first three scenarios. The fourth one though, I am sure on because I've already done this twice. I provided the ex with a complete itinerary of the flights, times of arrival and departure, airports, phone numbers where we were going to be staying, cell phone number, day we were leaving and day we would be returning, etc.

Did you have shared custody? I have sole custody and have taken my daughter across a few times without my ex's permission.

CanadaRequesting specific interview date?
Too bad Montreal isn't as accommodating as Vancouver.

I'm going to try with MTL as my daughter is staying here to graduate grade 8 and I want to be here for it. I've also set a date for the church blessing of our wedding for the end of June. I know that it takes roughly 90 days to get AP, so I need to be in Chicago by March 15..... unsure.gif

Hope all works out with your request for a date.

CanadaWorking prior to EAD/AOS
My understanding is that once you have the I94 that gives you the right to work for 90 days until it expires. I could be wrong, but I 'm sure someone will come along and give you a definite answer.

Check under the EI thread. There may be something there that will answer your question.

CanadaMTL Interview
Well, my daughter and I will be going to the interview on Feb 1/08. I have booked our room at Tour Centreville for the 31st of Jan. We will be flying in order to get home in time for her other commitment.

My letter states that our interview is at 9:30 a.m. If we go to the consulate at 7 a.m., we should get through prior to that, right?????? I'd like to have an idea so I could book our flights. I'm hoping to be able to catch the 11 a.m. flight home.

Am I dreaming in technicolor or is this a possibility?
