CanadaWhat's For Dinner?
Letting the casserole finish up while waiting for hubby to get home from work.

Simple dish of chicken, cube and fried, chicken stove top stuffing, can of mushroom soup and shredded cheese. Put cubed, fried chicken in bottom of casserole dish, cover with mushroom soup, layer of shredded cheese, cover this with stove top stuffing and add another layer of cheese. Put in oven for 20 - 30 minutes and voila!

I'm too tired to cook tonight. So I'll phone him as he gets off work and tell him to bring something home. It will be the first time I've asked him to do that since I've been here ( June 30th).

Holy moly Jill you don't waste any time sistah!

Oh no I don't!! hehe I would have actually sent it sooner but was waiting on a letter from Glen's employer for the I-864 and his parents to give us his 2005/2006 W2's.... So got it all photocopied yesterday and off it goes!! Hoping for AP approval so I can make it home for Easter star_smile.gif

JillA...you should see your AP and EAD in about 70 days. I received approvals for my EAD in 60 days and my AP in 72 days. Laura and I were lucky as the Sept AOS filers had a wonderful person keeping a chart of everyone who filed, when they filed, the dates for everything. You should take a peek at the AOS - Sept Filers. I think I even saw a thread started for Dec Filers too.

Way to go on getting it out quick!!!!

CanadaBeen exactly a year since I saw my family
I'm in a different boat than you Della....my daughter still lives in Canada. Believe me I have some terrible days but we have set up Skype and we usually talk every day using it. I can see her and talk with her, as well as my sister and her hubby and anyone else that is there. The only drawback is I can't touch her. She was just here at the beginning of August for a 2 week visit and then we drove her home. Crossing the border and telling the border guard that "I'm going home to visit family" sure lifts my spirits. We won't be making a trip to see her until Christmas now and she won't be able to come here cause of school. I suppose if I really need a family fix, I could drive the 8 - 10 hours to southern Ontario to see family there, but it's my daugther I really want to see when I know we are going to Ontario.

So I don't know if you talk online with your family, but using Skype is a great way to feel a little closer to home.

CanadaWelcome To Tim Horton's, May I take Your Order?
Depending on the time of day - morning was XL hot chocolate double cream with a toasted raisin bagle with strawberry cream cheese; afternoon or evening would be bottled peach juice with a chocolate chip muffin.

I used to drink coffee but quit 3 yrs ago during my depression and never started again. I never drank Timmie's coffee but my 15 yr old daughter does sometimes.

CanadaHaving a tough time...
((((( Laura )))))

I was on my way back from taking my daughter home when you posted this. From a mother's perspective, being apart from family and, for me, my daughter is a real pain. There isn't a day that passes that I don't wonder if I made the right decision. As you said, it's tough talking to your spouse about it without making them feel bad too. Most days I just muddle through and come to the realization that things would not be as they are if it wasn't part of God's plan for my life, Kelsie's life and Larry's life. Daily talks with her and using skype to chat help. I know I'll miss important dates in her life and that saddens me - like January when she'll turn 16. Hopefully by then I'll be working and can maybe fly up and surprise her seeing as we'll have just returned home from our Christmas holiday.

When the time is right, you and Nick will know. Everything has it's time and season and has been planned out for ages. Just know that you are never alone in being "alone".

CanadaMy Cat
When I crossed in June, all I had was a travel certificate from the vet stating that Salem's shots were up to date. The BP didn't even question any of it.

I didn't sedate Salem. He roams the vehicle while we travel and is only in his cage when we stop.

The paint in this house where we are living drives me barmy.

It's flat or almost flat and if you touch it, it marks (and a black mark no less!!).

It's like living in a china shop and every time I see a little mark I see me with a paint brush in my hand (she left paint here 'in case there are some little touch ups you need to do'). Guess she was already familiar with this paint.

I hear you Trailmix. I've only been in the apt for 10 months, but these past few weeks I've decided to make some changes. I find we have more room now but the paint in all the rooms except kitchen and bath is flat. No washing it to clean it up - 3 men have lived here for 5 years on their own. wacko.gif

I'm going to go to the office and ask if there would be a problem with re-painting (the living room, at least) with semi-gloss. Besides, they have stains on the ceiling from when the roof leaked that have never been dealth with. I have my fingers crossed that the management corp will let me paint the living room.

Hello Everyone

I know I haven't been around for quite some time. I just wanted to take a few moments to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas. May the reason for the season be with you all and your families.

Happy New Year too, as I will still be in Canada.

We were 2 days drive or roughly 1000 miles apart. I never once flew to see him as I prefer driving. He flew once to see me in February. With driving, I luck out as I have many family members living about 1/2 way between Chicago and Cochrane. I was able to get some family visits in the same trip to see hubby. We still make the 2 day drive 3 or 4 times a year to see my daughter.

CanadaPOE FINALLY
Congrats and welcome to the USA!

Ontarkie's partially right about my crossing there. My biggest issue was the fact that the Border Guard literally stamped my passport with a big red stamp that said "Ineligible for Employment", even though with a K-1 Visa you are allowed to work for a period of, I think, 90 days. Now that I look back, it wasn't a big deal as I'm still not working and may not ever return to the workforce again. :)

Hey there - glad to hear from you! I am understandably jealous of your being able to live like newlyweds! Although i'm sure you must miss your daughter more somedays then others. Somedays I wish I could be missing mine...she's still underfoot, although thankfully 18½ now.

I do miss her all the time and she's 16 1/2. We still talk everyday, when that option is available, and always have things to discuss.

We arrived at the border around 8 pm on Sunday. When speaking to the first guard, I told her I was there to activate my K-1 Visa. She asked if I had any pets to which I replied yes and that I had his passport too. She then asked about household plants which I did not bring and then directed me to go inside.

The next guard I spoke with asked me if I had time cause this was not just a 5 minute process. I replied I had lots of time. He had an elderly guard assist him with the process. The elderly guard had a checklist that clearly indicated that the I-94 was to be stamped "Employment Unauthorized". I questioned this but he just kept replying that it was on his checklist. mad.gif . I'm wondering how old that checklist is. It seems like everyone else has been granted that 90 work ok. Obviously I picked the wrong POE.

All in all it only took about 20 - 30 minutes. A second guard came along and he was very nice. He told me that I could still travel back and forth to Canada until we got married. That is the date that starts the 90-day waiting period. So as of right now, it's looking like it will be the new year before I'll be able to go back to see my daughter. So I have to pray she will want to come here to see us.

We have been to the courthouse to set the date for our "official" wedding which will be August 2. So in the meantime, I have to rely on my fiance to get us through these next 6 months. It will be tight especially if I can't collect EI. We will survive.

Looks like POE's have different lists obviously. Sorry to read that they wouldn't allow your fiance in with you. Sault Ste Marie had no problems with mine coming in while I was being processed. I guess that and the fact we were only there for maybe 30 minutes was a blessing.
