I'm hoping I'll go home for Christmas or just after (at least for New Years!!)...pending my AP!!!! smile.gif

I'm in the same boat as Laura. I'm still waiting for AP approval but if not for Christmas, I've decided I'm going to surprise my daughter for her birthday mid-January.

CanadaRidiculous!!!!!!
I noticed that my name has been written inside our mailbox cause I kept my name. Now whether Larry or the postman did this, I'm not too sure. There was no problem when my SSN was delivered. Then again, all states are different.

Sorry about the mess up Laura.

CanadaCheap Notarization in Ontario?
You could try your municipal office. The clerk is usually a commissioner for taking oaths. They may charge a fee but it shouldn't be too much, at least it wasn't in our office - $5.00

CanadaA (Birthday) Trip to Canada…
First off - belated Happy Birthday.

Your journey yesterday sounded like it was a wonderful day trip. I'm really glad to read that you didn't experience any "major" issues at the crossings - just silly questions. I hope that your 10 yr GC arrives sooner than you expect.

I hope your pregnancy is enjoyable.

I'm looking forward to my trip to Ontario in 2 weeks. We'll be there for 10 days and I can hardly wait.

Oh the memories of baby teeth. Ontarkie - my girl had lost all hers by the time she was 10. The dentist told me she was like 2 - 3 years ahead of where she should be at her age. Then again, she is an only child and seems to have grown up a lot faster then other kids her age.

Spirit - enjoy your time in Vancouver. Rejuvenate your inner self so you can share all of that with us on Sept 2.

CanadaDaughter wants to return to Canada
Udella....my heart goes out to you. I know what you are going through.

When my visa was approved in February '08, I needed to get the ok from my ex to bring my daughter with me. Over the next few months, there were days that she wanted to come and days she didn't. At the end of it, she remained in Northern Ontario - a 17 hour drive - with my sister and her hubby. Since I left on June 29, I have called her daily. It's not the same and when she is sad and lonely, it tears at my heart. She is only 14. Her dad didn't want to let her move here with me and as I said, she wasn't really open to the idea either.

At this point, my AP has been approved and apparently was mailed on December 8. Today is the 18th and I still don't have those precious documents. I want to go and visit with her over the holidays, but as each day passes, I really sink a little lower thinking it may not come to happen.

It's going to be rough. I have my loving hubby but it's not the same as holding my baby girl. I knew it was going to be rough. There are many days when I miss her so much I spend the day in our room thinking of her and shedding tears.

((((( hugs ))))) as you go through the process of letting her return to Ontario and for the days to come.

CanadaNot Eligible for EI
QUOTE (BH45 @ Dec 19 2008, 11:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was approved for EI after arriving here.

I submitted my ROE and sent them a copy of the I-94. I think I may have also submitted a copy of a document from Social Security. The document is POMS Section RM 00203.500 - Employment Authorization for Nonimmigrants can be found under the Guide tab:

Working, Traveling and Becoming a Permanent Resident
Adjustment of Status Guide (K1 & K3 Visa Holders)
(Also explains concurrent filing for an EAD and Advanced Parole)
K1 Adjustment of Status Tips
Employment Authorization Document (I-765) Guide
How to get a Social Security Number Guide - you'll see the RM 00203.500 underlined in the Section about K-1 Visa holders #5
Guide to Lifting Conditions: I-751

You would be looking for Section C - Employemnt Authorization by Class of Admission. Under that section, K-1 Visa holders are eligible for EI for 90 days. If at the end of the 90 days you don't have your EAD, your claim is put on hold until you fax a copy of your EAD card in to them. The claim will re-start and continue until you find a job or your claim runs out.

Hope this helps.

You should also be able to get your SSN with those same documents from the Social Security website. That's how I got my SSN a month after arriving.

Sorry for the double entry....my brain is just starting to work.... blush.gif

CanadaWhat do we know about Employment Insurance
Trailmix:

When I arrived in the US, I was still on vacation from my place of employment. My last official date with them was the 4th of July and I filed for EI on July 7 online. I received a letter from EI requesting further information - copy of my I-94. We were married on August 2, 2008. I then waited until the early part of September before being approved. I was approved from the date of the I-94 in my passport for 90 days (June 29 until September 27). I was approved for 35 weeks of benefits.

My EI file was put on hold until I could submit a copy of my EAD. My EAD was approved on November 26, and my EI benefits started again on November 30.

So the initial EI benefits were for 12 weeks, including the 2 week waiting period. When the claim was re-activated in November, I inquired as to the length of time I would be able to collect benefits. I was told that I would be eligible for an additional 24 weeks of benefits.

Hope this helps. I'm a K-1 Visa.

OK....I gave in and opened my Secret Santa gift. I was feeling kinda down cause I hadn't heard anything bout my AP.

The music box is beautiful and note cards are wonderful. As I was putting them on my computer desk, I noticed I had an email. I opened it and found that my AP documents were mailed today.

So between my secrect Santa gifts and that email, I've been smile.gif and crying.gif for the better part of the day. When I spoke to my daughter earlier and sang "I'll be home for Christmas....", she was like really, honest, for sure...and I said as long as those documents arrive in the mail before the 23rd when we plan on leaving, yes Kelsie - I'll be there. I heard my sister in the background say.."Now I have to go buy 2 more gifts." laughing.gif

When I read you had gotten your AP approved I was so thrilled...I literally yelled at Nick "KELLY GOT HER AP! KELLY GOT HER AP!"
I bet it feels so good knowing you'll be able to go home for Christmas and see your baby girl.
Congratulations hon star_smile.gif

Laura - do not give up hope. I had resigned myself to driving 17 hours to see Kelsie in January, by myself. I was in the process of preparing her for the possibility of us not being there toooo. Then - that wonderful email from CRIS arrived. Yours can't be too long in arriving cause you are a day ahead of me.

Thanks everyone for the "congrats". You can be sure I'll be holding that little (really taller than me, though) girl of mine for a very long time. Thanks VJ - Canada for keeping me somewhat sane while I waited.

((((( hugs )))))

We leave 2 weeks from today at roughly 4 p.m. to start the drive.

I don't have any real collections but I do like angels. My daugther gave me a snowman angel, angels nested in cotton fluff, and I have an angel windchime.

Favorite treats would have to be Dove's Chocolate (milk or carmel).

Favorite color - I have 3 of them. Red, royal blue and purple.

Traditional Christmas colors for me tooo. One year, my daughter and I did our tree all in gold.

I enjoying browsing in the stationery places of stores. I like to create things on the computer using nice paper for printing. I once made a wedding invitation for a family member who got married without sending any. So I made them 9 or 10 to give to the immediate family as keepsakes.

CanadaA Little Good News
Hey Everyone

Hope all is well with everyone. I had a wonderful visit with my daugther over the Christmas holidays. It did us both good to see each other. I'm hoping to get back up to see her again in April / May. As of right now, she will be coming here for the summer with a friend, which is ok by me. I'll have my girl for awhile.

That is good news but I have more. smile.gif I posted my resume on Careerbuilder.com and received a call and an email last Thursday from Accountemps. I completed the required information for them and received a 2nd call on Monday to set up an interview. I had my interview with them today. I just received a call and will be starting a job on Monday, working 28 hours a week to start. kicking.gif

I'm in shock! I haven't worked in 9 months and within a week I've been hired and put on a job already. Crazy!!!!

So for anyone looking for work - I suggest you post your resume on Careerbuilder.com and see what comes of it. You may be surprised like me.

I think I wished for a job for my birthday - it worked!!!! laughing.gif

CanadaEmployment Discrimination in the US
I had set my resume up on Careerbuilder prior to moving here.

Now that I have my EAD, I've since updated my resume to reflect my residence in Palatine. I've applied on a few jobs from the site, but have also received 2 calls from employers looking at my resume. The one place was looking for a "sales" type person and I know that I'm not cut out for that type of job. The other place was an Accountemp agency. I've replied to them and am just waiting for a call back to set up an interview.

My references are mainly Canadian but I do have a few people that I've met that are willing to give me character references. Who knows - time will tell.
