I knew we could get this thread to rock! Interesting how many of us met online! Did you all fall in love before you met in person? We did, Stuart kept saying things like "that's why I love you" on the phone, and I asked him point blank: "do you?" and it all went right from there. It's great that we all spent so much time chatting online, I feel that you really get to know the real person when you don't have to worry about making a good impression, and when you finally meet, you already love them and the rest is just gravy! We may not have known our loved ones as long before deciding to marry, but I bet we know them a lot better than most people that take each other for granted, and can touch and hold each other when all we can do is talk! lol!

Our first meeting I flew to St Louis, and he picked me up and took me on a canoe trip for the week. If you want to get to know someone really well, really quickly, share a tent with them for a week, and no bathroom! It was loads of fun, and he loved me just as much sweaty and unshowered as he would dressed to the nines! We had nothing to do but paddle, and snuggle by the campfires. Definitely one of my most romantic times ever!

As to meeting family, I met one of his son's that first trip down, and offered my hand for a handshake and got pulled into a bear hug instead! Stuart has flown up and met my family too, parents, brother, sister's family, etc... They all love him. Also a huge relief is that my son loved him even more in person than on the phone, so much that he wants to call him dad straight away when we move there. Stuart also asked him for permission to marry me, of course I got his blesssing! Anyone else here have a kid in the mix?

we dont talk on the phone, cause damn romania doesnt really have a service that we can afford for international calls, so that will be missing from my interview packet.

Do you use Skype or Gmail to talk over the computer?

Okay, I KNOW it's no fun to be in a long distance relationship, and that there's no reason to romanticize it and make it out to be something that it's not. I also know that the little things that most people take for granted are exactly the kind of normalcy that we crave when we are apart, but there ARE things you can do when you're apart to make it more romantic, and fun.

Stuart and I send each other romantic love letters through the mail, on fancy papers even. (I perfume mine too!) It's so fun to run to the mailbox and see if we have mail! We download the same movie and start it at exactly the same time to watch it together. We wake each other up each morning, and say goodnight to each other every night on the phone, sometimes even falling asleep together. (I love to listen to him breathe!) We leave things for each other to find after we go. (I tried to leave a nightie for him once but he thought I missed it in packing and it ended up coming home with me, but I can't tell you how awesome it is to have something of each others to hold and smell them on it, so a sweater is perfect as you can put it on if it's his, or snuggle it if it's hers) When Stuart opens up his medicine cabinet, he sees my toothbrush, and can picture me there with him. When I open up my sock drawer, I see a pair of his socks and it makes me think of him. We talk a few hours a day (unlimited north america plan, or would be a 4000$ a month phone bill) and we play games against each other on the computer. (I kick his #### at skype Chinese Checkers!) He sings me love songs, and I sing goofy ones back to him :P We've bought the same groceries and ingredients, and used the same recipes and shared the same meals together, even decorating the table in the same way.

So get creative, and share on here the things you do to make it as romantic as possible while you are apart, I'm sure we all have some great ideas.

As to planning the wedding, yes, we make some preliminary plans... I already have my dress, shoes and necklace, and we have a few options that we are looking at. Our favourite is totally dependent on if we can buy a house we both fell in love with when I was there last, and that's IF it's still for sale when I sell mine here in order to come up with the downpayment for it. It overlooks the water and has a deck right on the river that we'd be crazy not to set up there, the views are amazing there. We'd hire a barbeque caterer to roast a pig and corn for us, and bring in musicians. If we can't get that house, then there's a place we went to for drinks that offers wedding and reception services, and it should be able to accommodate us even at short notice given the time of year we'll be looking, I have to sell my house and waiting for Montreal, I'm crazy to think that I'll get my visa before september, and have my house sold too, so maybe a Halloween wedding even? Who knows?

So share some stories, and wedding ideas on here, lets's make this a fun group, while you're at it, share how you met too... Stuart and I met playing an online game called Evony, it had a chat function... he was chatting to some people and I thought he was funny so I said hi to him, we started chatting more and it just went on from there. Cupid had a malfunction that day, one of his arrows veered WAAAAY off course!

First, its just too strange that USCIS would call you. Pardon me if I'm being suscpicious, but you're getting this info from your fiance right? That is just too strange and I've never before heard of a that! Also its strange that your check didn't cashed, you didn't get NOA1 and this is the second time this happened. You're the beneficiary right? You should post in the main forum so that you might get more responses. Post with something like, 'Have you ever gotten a call from USCIS?' Good Luck!

We sent our original packet in January, and the forms we had used then were still valid then, but upon resending them, we never rechecked that they were still okay. They did phone and ask us to resend in a few things, with new dates as the old ones were no longer valid. This is how we know they have them. He spent ages on the phone today, most of it telling them that he was the petitioner, as they kept telling him that they would only talk to the petitioner, and even after telling them he was, they told him the petitioner needed to make the call, and were they there with him? Sounded like a fun time to hear him tell it! After all that, he was told that sometimes they don't cash the cheque, and if they were waiting for additional info, that would explain why, as they generally cash it after 30 days. (I know, I know, on here that timeline is WAY off) They told him that he needs to wait a minimum of 60 days before panicking. He's not so good at waiting, and plans on making nice with his local senator's office, as it seems we're gonna need one. As to them never phoning, I already went over that in another thread, and it seems sometimes they do. We have all the luck.

You filed march 22 right? You should have gotten a NOA1 already. Did they cash your check? Did you call and ask what's going on?

They've called us and talked to us about it so we know they have it, and no, apparently they haven't cashed the check yet (I thought they had, must have had a miscommunication with my honey on that one...) Stuart is phoning tomorrow, as I too think we should have one by now, but then I thought we would have had one from the first time we filed, but we still never have heard about that one either and that one was in January, they have no record of it to this date. Bad luck right?

We got ANOTHER phone call today, still from Dallas, asking me to provide another set of photos, a new intent to marry and another T-325A. Has anyone ever heard of having to redo and resend everything like this? I'm wondering if there's a problem. I'm hoping it's only the dates on them being too long ago, as we had sent originally in January, and resent again in March, maybe they want newer pictures? Stuart spent a few hours on the phone with them today over it, mostly on hold, but still... I just want everything to go smoothly, now I'm scrambling to redo the whole package and have Stuart send it out to them again....

Did he check the back of your cashed check, sometimes they stamp your case number there also.

They asked you for a tax return? With the I-129F application? He must have sent the I-134 affidavit of support with it, which isn't really needed with the I-129F, but you'll need that for your future interview. Why would Dallas call you? Something sounds strange, are you sure he filed the I-129F?

Yes, he sent the Affidavit of support as well as the I-129F form. Not sure why, as that's supposed to be sent to me to send along later, but yes, he filed the I-129F, and I couldn't tell you why they called, but they did, and asked for this year's return instead, which he's scrambling to get done and send in asap. It sounds weird, right?

Still no NOA1, or email about it, but we did get what I'll call an RFE, Stuart got a phone call from Dallas asking for this year's tax return, as last year's (which we had sent in January the first time) was too far out of date. We hadn't even thought of putting the new one in! I NEVER thought they'd PHONE us!!!

At least we know they have it, even though we don't have a number, or know where they're gonna send it to!!! YAY!!!

(Still no reply about the one we sent in January though... it's just MIA)

Dear USCIS, please let us be March filers. I know you decided in your wisdom to test our patience by making our original packet that was sent in January disappear. I think you will find that we were very patient, and waited and waited and waited, just like we were told to whenever we could get through on the line, which wasn't often. We're sorry, but we can only be patient for so long, and we're deciding to start over, and sent in another packet. So, please please please, send us an NOA1 so that we can have proof of your existence! Make us into true believers oh mighty USCIS!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresphoning USCIS and Congressman to inquire

Yep just carry your ID, alot of stores here in the states give you discounts too lowes, home depot, sunglasses hut, applebees to name a few, just have your MIL ID and ask if they give military discounts! it varys on the stores/places but hey saving a little helps a lot.

I agree it does save quite a bit of money. I'm normally the one mentioning it though. Some places have so many people in teh military that they ask or just give the discount.

Most of our groceries are bought at the commissary too, so lots of savings there.

Oh, and a lot of car dealerships will give a bit of a discount for military too which is awesome if you need a car.

My favourite is at Chili's restaurant. I missed Chili's while i was stuck in canada. hehe.

When I called them as as his GF they were NO help to me at all, when he called... it was 100% different story.. they were way more help to him they " knew " more about stuff and helped a lot better.. where as if I called it seemed they played dumb with me and didnt know anything.. it was frustrating! it says its for active duty AND their family!

It's probably similar to calling USCIS where who you get and how much they know is luck of the draw. I called as his fiancee and pretty much got the flowchart experience. He called once and got even less. hehe. Once I found visajourney I stopped calling.

What branch of the military is your SO?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresphoning USCIS and Congressman to inquire
It can't hurt to ask for an expedite, but it's very unlikely for it to happen without the service member being deployed very soon.

Have you called USCIS to see what stage your case is in right now? Maybe the NOA2 is on it's way. Hey you never know. When I was waiting for info, I called every week. let me find that number.

As for the congressperson, we contacted the congressman in my husbands current state of residence (i.e. the state where he is stationed). Not the voting area. They were very helpful. I think they may have sped up the visa process for us but I dont' think we'll ever have proof of it as Montreal is incredibly unpredictable.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresquestion #18 on I-130
I'm not sure if writing down a parents address is a great idea for you. It might work but I'm not very familiar with the proof of domicile required for the IR1CR1 process. Maybe someone more familiar with it or how it works at the embassy in the philippines can chime in.

I know that most people applying for that are required to show that there is a residence ready for the beneficiary before they arrive. That is why i thought there might be some wiggle room for the military, particularly when there is a deployment involved. I suppose if you will be staying at the parents house when you arrive that would work but you would need some evidence of that at the interview. It is also possible that by the time you ahve your interview your S/O will be home and able to establish an apartment or something for you.

Hopefully someone who's gone through the cr1 - ir1 process can help elaborate.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresquestion #18 on I-130

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresquestion #18 on I-130
This might be a good question for the military help line.

http://www.uscis.gov...000b92ca60aRCRD

I would say that it might be possible to use his unit address or ask him what address he would use to have mail sent (APO or FPO sounds familiar maybe?). Then, maybe explain in the cover letter that you plan to get an apartment or live in base housing when he returns from his deployment. I do not know this for sure though so try calling the help line. There might be some wiggle room in this area for the military.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresGetting Medical/Vaccination Records Before Medical Appointment
I don't think you need to bring anything to your family doctor. All you need from them is the records of your vaccinations. I had a little yellow card that I've had since i was born that all shots I've gotten have been recorded on. The doctor should be able to give you the records of any shots they have given you. If you do not have records of the shots required you might need to get them again or get a test done saying you have had them in the past.

Your family doctor will not be the doctor that does the medical paperwork that teh consulate requires. You have to go to a specific doctor and there is only one in toronto and two in montreal that you can go to. I would wait until you get the interview appointment at montreal before getting that done because it is valid for one year. Waiting means you probably won't have to get another full medical done when you adjust status, so it saves money.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCriminal record / Police certificate from Canada
I would email them and ask if it's possible to get the fingerprints done in canada. For some reason i'm thinking that might only be for residents of Canada. I'm hoping I'm wrong but for some reason it seems like a current canadian address is required.

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me. Only difference is that I was missing the police report from Japan. I had to go to the Japanese consulate and be fingerprinted (ink-not electronically). On the USCIS website it says that reports from japan can take 3 months but I got it in 1.5 months so that was good.

I guess I'm saying if it saves a significant amount of money, it might not take the full 4 months. I know how hard it is to wait for a document like that particularly when you know there is nothing to report on the report!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting for my interview (Dec 18th, Montreal)
I just had my interview on December 2 in Montreal, and the only thing you seem to be missing is the express post mailer they request you to bring. There are no other forms that need to be filled out or anything, but check this link for anything else you may need: http://travel.state....L-0003-0808.pdf

Along with your interview letter, you should have gotten a sheet that listed all the documents required and their status i.e. if they have an original of your marriage certificate or not. Double-check to make sure you sent in all the required items or if you have the originals, be sure to bring them. It is best to bring in copies of everything you sent in, just in case they lost anything, especially receipts of any payments. Also, you can bring evidence of your ongoing relationship i.e. flight itineraries, wedding photos, phone bills, etc., but they may not ask for them (they didn't for me).

As for the interview, don't worry about being there late or early, the time they give you is not set in stone. Be sure to have your interview letter and passport in hand when you arrive, and avoid bringing anything else so you can get through security faster! Once through, they'll tell you to go to the 19th floor and see the cashier at window 14. The cashier will ask for your interview letter to pull up your file, and then they'll give you a number just like at the DMV or passport office. From then, you play the waiting game for the first screening. It only took about an hour for us until we were called, and the lady barely asked any questions. Most of the answers were in our paperwork, she just collected the medical report (not the x-ray, unless you've had TB), passport and mailer, verified our info, scanned my fingerprints and then told us to wait again.

We waited another 1/2 hour or so, and this time were called by name. We then saw a gentleman who made us raise our right hands and swear all our paperwork was true, and then he asked how we met, when we were married, etc. He was very nice about everything, told us he erased what he could from my file in terms of previous denials with border crossing, and then he asked if mailing our passport was fine. My husband quickly asked if there was any way possible to get it sooner since he had to go back to work and would love if I could go to the US with him, and the gentleman offered to have it ready for 3:00p.m. the same day! He just gave us a slip, and when we came back, we skipped the entrance line, went up and got our package right away!

I can't see many issues arising being that you made it this far! Bring all your info just in case they ask, and bring Canadian change for the snack machines as it is a long wait! Good luck with everything, I'm sure it will go well!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIf denied entry at POE, what happens to the CR-1?
Hi All!

Sorry it took so long, but being a hopeless romantic I had to try to cross the border again - and I was SUCCESSFUL! I went to the BUF POE and when the officer asked the purpose of my visit, I said I wanted to see my husband for our 1 year anniversary (yes the paperwork is still pending after all this time!). I was sure to tell him before he scanned my passport that I had issues crossing before. He checked the system, thanked me for giving him the heads up, but still had to send me for 2ndary questioning.

I came fully equipped with anything that tied me to Canada (my residence) including, our most recent application receipt form, a letter of employment stating I was granted a 3 week vacation period, bank statements, phone bills, and a return flight ticket. I went through 1-hour of questioning and my luggage and purse were even rummaged through to determine if I was intending to stay illegally. They even went through every piece of scrap paper in my wallet! The officer was somewhat reluctant, and so, decided to run all my evidence by his supervisor. Within 10 minutes they granted me entry and didn't even place restrictions on my stay! They did say they knew when I was coming back, and trusted I would obey the law, but that was the extent of it!

I would suggest to anyone attempting what I did to be confident and honest - you do have a right to see your loved one! However, be sure to be extremely respectful of any officer, never talk back, only answer the question at hand, come fully prepared and remember that they believe crossing over is a privilege even though you may think it's a right! I may have just been lucky, but it is worth a try...GOOD LUCK!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIf denied entry at POE, what happens to the CR-1?
I'm a Canadian citizen and I married a US citizen. In July'07, after our honeymoon, we were denied entry into the US because we had stated we were married, and they felt I did not have strong enough ties to Canada. We gave up for awhile, and in April '08, I made my second attempt to visit the country I'm supposed to immigrate to. Again, I was denied entry for the same reasons, and on top of that, they made me sign a Withdrawal of Application. The officer told me not to attempt to cross at any POE until our visa was approved or our CR-1 would be denied...It's BS!

We're both born and raised in our respective countries, neither of us has a criminal record, and our employment has always been steady - other than the fact that I took a break to figure out my next steps...I can't understand how the system can be so cruel! I'm tempted to try again, but am extremely fearful of the consequences. I am working, can get a letter if needed, have phone bills, credit card bills, etc. I'm just not sure if I will be pushing any buttons. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting USA during immigration process
Hey!

You can take a look at the post on my page, but to give you the brief synopsis, my husband and I are near the end of our IR/CR-1 visa process, and there have been times when I have and have not been allowed entry into the US. Your best bet is to be completely honest, show all documentation showing your ties to your country of residence i.e. employment letter, proof of any investments, bank statements, return ticket, etc. It is ultimately up to the officer, and you may go through a lot of questioning, but if you are only visiting and really are intending to come back, it should be fine....GOOD LUCK!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI have a question for fellow K1'ers

I got a picture in my mind of you sitting in prison and chating on the computer  . I just kept going till a few posts later someone said "penpal"

Hahaha, I did the exact same thing!

Stuart and I met on a game called Evony that had a chat feature. I was host of an alliance and he was in an enemy alliance that I was doing some diplomacy with but we weren't really talking a lot. One night a friend of mine was being chewed out on the global chat and he jumped to her defence. I thanked him, and we chatted for a while. We kept talking every day, and exchanged Facebook and phone numbers. Our first phone bill was two thousand dollars. (yeah, he still shoots himself over that one, and now has a plan) I went to California for a week with a girlfriend, and didn't talk to him for a week, and really, really missed him. He kept saying things like "that's why I love you," and "love you babe" on the phone, very nonchalant, and I asked him, point blank, "do you?"

Silence. Complete and utter silence and just when I thought I had ruined it, he said, "yes, I do, I really do." We made plans to meet in person later that same month, and it was everything I could have ever hoped for and dreamed of.

I always said that all the good guys were either gay or taken, little did I realise that some of them just live impossibly far away!

So I was just being curious about calling the NVC hotline. I even asked Dee last night to have me on the other line whenever he calls the nvc. He promised we'll do that tomorrow. Agent: Yes i have your MNL case # Ma'am. Are you ready?
Me: oh..! Oh im so sorry! Wait a sec let me get a pen! ...okay I'm ready! (I really didn't get a pen, I just typed the MNL20117290## she gave me on my iPod note. Lol)

I called Dee right after I gt off the phone w/the nvc agent told him what my nosey behind did. He was laughing so hard at me. Don't know how was I able to tell him the whole story with all that stut-stuttering because I was still shaking and nervous! Too nervous that I forgot to ask if our packet 3 (?) has been sent to Manila already or whatever! I still have a lot of questions but my baby promised me he will call the nvc tomorrow and verify, of course WITH MY NOSEY BEHIND via 3 way. Lol

OMG that was so funny! Great on getting your case number though! They're getting a little faster sending it out too, you need to start calling around 15 days out if you haven't gotten it by then, but with VSC, it's really quick, so then I'd call after a week!

Hey guys I have a question. I'm sure its been asked before and I apologize before asking. Is it normal to get an approval or rfe without seeing any "touch" on USCIS website. I'm asking because my noa1 date is may 9. After seeing that VSC working on some May files I checked my status and it has not been touched since May 12. I hired a lawyer. This was of course before I found VJ. He did not ask me to submit any proof of meeting in 2 years. After reading many post about getting rfe because of no evidence, I believe I will also get RFE. Just wondering if there is a time limit on when they send RFE after NOA1. Thank u so much in advance for any information I get.

You will probably get an RFE for more evidence of having met. I'd prepare it now, and pay special attention to those peices of evidence that can put the two of you in the same place at the same time. That's receipts for hotel rooms, plane ticket stubs, stamps in passports, photos with dates on them. Any other supporting documents like pictures of you two with each other and your families, dated or not would also be appropriate.

As to the touch, it was a lot more common in the past to get a touch and then wait, then get another or an NOA2. Now, it seems that those that get touched go straight to the RFE, and those with no RFE get sent and NOA2 straight away, so the touch IS the approval. I'd vote for no touch in this case. So, is it normal not to get a touch? Yes, very normal.

Trying to understand the data I am seeing here on VJ. The trends for CSC show now processing June 4th.
The Igor list of CSC shows less than 60% of the May filers are approved.
That puts them around completion of processing as May 18th filers.
Does that mean it takes an average of 17 days from start to finish for an approval? Or does it mean that the stats are incorrect?

There is more than one officer working on the Visas, and some may be faster than others at getting through their piles, some may have more visas that need AP or RFE, and some may be lucky to get through really quick, they also do not complete them in the order they come in. Some visas need to be sent to another desk, so if you see a touch but no NOA2 it's gone to someone else's desk, maybe for RFE, maybe not, but to say that means they have processed till May 18 seems an illogical leap. A to the accuracy of the stats, they are only a snapshot of what people actually put in their timelines, if someone doensn't update their timeline, and there are a lot that don't, then they will skew the results. VJ is only a very small percentage (3%?) of people filing for K1, a lot of people file without even hearing about this site. As to if you will be processed close to the date that was suggested for you.... The March filers seemed to be within a day or two, most before they were told it would be by the stats, myself included.

Wanted to let you all know that my case went to NVC on Jul8, and out to the embassy on Jul9, so now I'm stalking DHL to see if or when it arrives at the embassy. Packet 3 going out as soon as they get it!

Oh okay... I thought children under 14 are not required to have chest x-ray cause I know that's not good and kind of harmful to children right? My kids just had an x-ray in January because they had a bad cough and their pedia required them to have a chest x-ray. They're clear though. But the x-ray tech at the hospital told me chest x-ray for kids should be be done only once a year or it can harm them.. I am not sure about about this but I'm a mother and my kids health comes first..

But that's Saint Lukes! They should know what they're doing. But if something goes wrong, I might hurt them if I can't sue them.

Your children will be subjected to more radiation on ONE plane ride than they will on a lifetime of xrays, even if they get them several times a year. They will also cover your children's reproductive organs with a lead apron, as the radiation doesn't hurt your children, it just potentially hurts your grandchildren. As it is, the risk is extremely low, but because it's a medical procedure, it comes with a million warnings against it. Honestly, if something like Tylenol was new on the market today, it would NEVER make it off the shelf, as it's too risky, and we use it everyday with no concern about it. They're just super super strict because they don't want to be sued. Don't worry about it... Don't even worry about the plane ride for that matter, the radiation from that is very small too!

Hey guys... im a MAY filer and I received my NOA2 on Aug 8, 2011. Now waiting for it to get to NVC.

Congrats!

It will come soon Kat, don't worry... :)

I really don't understand why can't both service centers process petitions the same way though.. :bonk: Not that I'm complaining, I'm glad we got approved faster than we thought... But why? Both service centers are located in ONE country, right? What's the difference, really? Does Vermont caters more applicants than California?

Vermont does get many more applications than California, not sure why, I think it's to do with the population split? California gets more work visas apparently... As it sits, they DO process the work visas before they process the family ones, and also, I think Vermont is still catching up from a shortage of workers, they took a lot of people off to work on other desks when Libya started having issues, and I still think they're short staffed. In any case, they seem to be speeding things up, so you may not have as long a wait ahead of you!

LOL

For the longest time I've had these words on my signature: ????????? ???????

They mean "I love you as much as the sky." Ice used to post this on my facebook wall.

It's cute, right?

But apparently it's the motto for Thai Airways.

So now I changed it to just "I love you"

Also, apparently I'm a senior member now. When did that happen?

I think it's really cute, and regardless of if it's an airway motto, you should leave it, it's so much better than just I love you! It's super personal to both of you!

I had grá mo chroí engraved in Stuart's ring. It's Gaelic for "love of my heart" I want m`fhíorghrá amháin engraved in mine because he posted it on my wall! It means "My one true love"

You could get that engraved in your ring, or even as a tattoo, it would be really cool!

Yea Thea I know where Branson Missouri is! whats the Major Airport to Branson????

Branson airport, Springfield Airport, or St. Louis Airport, which would be a few hours drive.

Branson's gorgeous, and tons of shows and attractions. Silver Dollar City is a huge amusement park, there's camping for RVers, and interesting things to do around every corner. One of my favourite things when I was there was a dueling piano bar at Branson Landing. I had the most fun there, and if you do decide to party there with me, you'll have the time of your life!

I'll be in Branson Missouri, it's got loads of attractions around, and will have an in at a local resort and could probably help with a discount on hotel rates if people were interested?
