CanadaPacket 3
Hi,

You do not need to send off what's asked for in the checklist (birth certificate etc.) It's a little confusing because one of the forms (I forget which) also asks you to attach a bunch of stuff like your birth certificate to it. You do NOT include these things in packet 3- you submit them at the interview.

This is what you send in packet 3:

Signed Checklist
DS-160 x 1
DS-156K x 1
DS-230 x 1
DS-156 x 2

To this address, with your Montreal case number on everything:
ATTN: Immigrant Visa Unit
315 Place d'Youville Suite 500
Montreal Quebec
H2Y OA4

The Montreal requires the DS-160, NOT the DS-157. I will find the link that states this in a moment.

Althugh the DS-160 is done online I strongly recommend you print out an extra copy of it for your records.

Edit: http://montreal.usco...=immigrant_visa Scroll down to "processing of approved fiance petitions." It does not ask for DS-157, but it does ask for the DS-160. It lists everything that's required. Note that it does not ask for you to attach birth certificates, evidence, etc., just the forms. I did not submit the 157 and was approved.

Be wary of anyone giving advice who isn't K-1 at this point as the required documents are slightly different for spousal visas.

CanadaCreating U.S. Visa Service Account
For MTL: Montreal is fully booked until September 28th but supposedly they open up new dates twice a month. Currently the website says there are no available appointments. They should be opening up interviews for after September sometime soon, I hope. I already have my interview date but many MTLers are going nuts refreshing the CSC website, I'm sure.

I forget what information they ask for when you create your account, but it's possible to do so without booking an interview. However (I believe, not sure) that in order to look at the interview dates the website prompts you to pay the $350 fee. It is possible to skip this page without paying, however, I don't know if you have the option to pay online again after you skip that page. (Maybe someone else can offer their insight here?) You can always pay for it in person at the embassy but it slows things down, so paying online is preferable.

It's tempting to create an account now, but perhaps it's best to wait till Pkt4 is logged (keep calling DoS after you send Pkt3) before you look at available interview times or you'll just torture yourself.

CanadaVancouver
You book your interview online here: http://canada.usvisa-info.com. HOWEVER, you cannot book your interview until you receive a case number and packet 4 has been logged. You still have a little while to go!

You have a case number on your NOA2, right? You can start calling Department of State to inquire about the status of your paperwork. Once it's at the consulate you can start calling to ask about packet 3 and packet 4. I don't know if Vancouver is like Montreal, but IF it is you can send back the paperwork for packet 3 as soon as packet 3 has been mailed out. You don't have to physically receive it. Then, Vancouver will receive packet 3, review it, and if all is well they'll send you packet 4. When DoS tells you packet 4 has been logged and you're eligible to book an interview you can.

Whatever proof you do send in can/should be photocopies only. They don't want originals. Save the originals for the interview.

It's also useful to photocopy the entire petition before mailing it in, just to have for your records and to ensure that all your information is consistent. It's not necessary, but handy.

Good luck and welcome to VJ!

CanadaPublic Notary
If you live in Ontario, The Center for Education and Training (http://www.tcet.com/) has a commissioner of oath that certified my birth certificate translation for free. There's a few centers, but not all of them offer the same services- I went to the one in Mississauga. I'm not exactly sure if a commissioner of oath is the same thing, however.

You have to call and make an appointment with them if you go there.

Canadaeyeglasses for Medical
I wear glasses and they never even mentioned them at Dr. Seiden's. They didn't do an eye exam, and from reading recent experiences from other VJers on here they didn't check their eyes, either.

I know my experience isn't universal, but when I went a couple weeks ago they did the following:

Specialist did:
chest x ray

Nurses did:
height and weight
took a blood sample
blood pressure
pulse
breast exam
checked pelvis (not a pap- they literally just pulled back the sheet and looked for an instant, I think just to check that you're the sex you say you are, or something)

The doctor did:
abdominal exam
listened to lungs/heart
asked questions regarding medical history
vaccination sheet

And that was it! :)

CanadaNumber to call?

alright, logged in...and see that the next available interview is in 102 days?!?!?!

Is there a way to schedule something for the soonest possible date and then if an earlier date opens up, to be able to call and re-schedule for something earlier?

100 days is another 3 flippin months!

After you book an interview online you're able to re-schedule it any time on the website- no need to call anyone. It's easy to re-schedule, so as soon as a date opens up I recommend you grab it, even if it's in 102 days. Then once it's booked, keep checking the website every day and cross your fingers. It's not uncommon for earlier interview dates to spontaneously appear. By the way, Montreal is very slow- my interview date was 3 months from the day I booked it, and I haven't been lucky enough to grab something earlier. Unfortunately it's something we have to suffer through together :/

You can either pay on the CSC website (I did) or in person. If you pay for it on the website just make sure to keep the confirmation email and print it out. Although I am unsure, I believe that paying for it in person may slow it down (plus it has to be in american cash- I don't think they accept debit or credit). There IS a way to skip the payment on the website if you can't do it online, although I'm not exactly sure how.

CanadaFiance change of address and number

Your fiance will never again receive correspondence for your process.... it's all in your hands now. Even the AOS. That's your application, not his, and not both of yours.

You can just change it at the interview. :)

That's convenient- I'm guessing it's just because we (likely) won't be receiving any further paperwork until after the interview? Actually, my fiance won't be receiving anything until we do AOS, right? (in which case it'll really be "both" of us receiving it) I still wonder if I should get my fiance to call USCIS now just in case Montreal mixes up a lot stuff and we don't find out until after we wait eons to receive paperwork that was mailed to the wrong place. Nonetheless thanks for the information. :)

Hi everyone,

My american fiance recently changed his phone number and address (it wasn't a big move- he just moved into a bigger apartment in the same building he's been living in for awhile, but the apt. # is still different). I have an interview in Montreal booked already, so that's what we're waiting for right now. Does my fiance need to call anyone to inform them of his change of contact information?

Thanks in advance.

Fiance visas don't need the 864. The 864 is only for other visas. I know, it's confusing because it's on the checklist, but you don't need it. You will fill it out for adjustment of status after you enter the states, however.

CanadaPacket 3

Thanks for the great info, I'll get on that today. I kinda figured the Canada post strike might have something to do with the delay. You mentioned some people never receive Packet 3 or 4? What documents does one need to send to satisfy Packet 3 so that Packet 4 can be logged and an interview booked?

CanadaPacket 3
After you mail Pkt3 you can call DoS to ask if Pkt4 has been logged. As soon as it's been logged you can book an interview on the wesbite- don't wait for it to arrive in the mail.

It's not unusual for people not to receive Pkt3 or Pk4, or to receive them very late. I wonder if the Canada Post strike had anything to do with it?
pocherosFemaleCanada2011-07-06 10:26:00
CanadaNext Step - I-134
Also, somehow I misread your post and i thought you said you already received NOA2! Dur >_< Anyways, you can certainly check out Pkt3 forms, but wait awhile before you fill them out, and wait awhile before doing your police check since it can take a long time to get NOA1 and NOA2. Pkt3 forms will ask you about your visits to the US, so if you visit your fiance between now and the time you receive Pkt3 you will have to include that. A police check could potentially go over the 1 year time limit if you got it now, although it's unlikely.

You can start collecting pay stubs, etc. for the I-134, but for any letters of employment you should wait until you're close to the interview so they're more up to date.

Waiting for NOA1 and NOA2 is the hard part, but once it's over everything else goes quickly.

CanadaNext Step - I-134
Which embassy? If it's Montreal you can find the Pkt3 info here: http://montreal.usco...ument=visa_pkt3 There's also a link to the Vancouver consulate.

Right now, you can fill out the forms for Pkt3, but don't date them until Pkt 3 has been logged.* You can also start gathering supporting evidence for the I-134. Police checks have to be done within one year of your interview date, so you can look into that too. If there are any documents required for the interview that are not in English, you should get them translated an notarized.

That's everything i could think of. :)

*actually, I believe that when you print out the forms for Pkt3 it prints out the date you filled them out in the corner of the form. I don't remember exactly. Is this bad? Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. I didn't fill out Pkt3 until I received it in the mail, so...

Edit: Also, start looking at what's required for the medical exam- make sure you have your vaccination record, any necessary documentation from your doctor, etc.

Canadainsruance covered medical?

I found the thread I was thinking of: http://www.visajourn...ng-at-montreal/

Evidently later in P4 (I'm at work and don't have it on hand) it specifies for K1 it has to be US cash. I'd take the US cash just to be safe.

Oh man, you know what? I NEED NEW GLASSES!

Because, as originally thought, P4 actually states, specifically for K1s that they must be paid in US cash only. Somehow I skipped right over that part! :bonk:

I feel like I must be a menace to VJ, putting out all this incorrect information. Sorry guys >_<

P4 states "K (fiance) visas: $350 US, paid in cash only."

So yeah, no credit cards or CAD money.

Canadainsruance covered medical?

ahhhh got it, so confusing!

and the actual interview in montreal, they accept credit card in addition to US cash, correct?

It turns out I was wrong. I just looked at my packet 4 and it states that "fees may be paid in US Dollars or the Canadian dollar equivalent [so CAD is totally fine as long as it adds up to 350 US]. We accept cash and credit cards only."

So credit cards, US cash, and Canadian cash are totally fine.
pocherosFemaleCanada2011-07-06 18:59:00

I believe it's US cash only at the interview, actually... but I can't seem to find the link to verify. Hopefully someone else will weigh in.

Likewise, I know it's US cash only, but I can't find the link either. >_> Credit cards are definitely not accepted.

I have about 50 threads from VJ bookmarked in addition to a bunch of other gov't websites. It's hard to sort through

Which consulate? I believe Vancouver prefers certain documents to be faxed. I used xpresspost for Montreal- Pkt3 got there in two days. Although, I'm not sure if that's the fastest way right now since I believe xpresspost is Canada Post, and Canada Post is probably backlogged from the strike right now.

So if you want to pay for it maybe use FedEx?

CanadaBackground checks!
I went to the 22 Division in Brampton and had mine done on the spot, it took like 5 seconds, was $50 for the first copy and $5 for additional copies. She will need addresses that she's resided at for the last 5 years, and will need to know how long she lived at each one.

They searched the CPIC, which is all you need as long as you don't have a criminal record.

BTW where I went it happened to not be busy that day. The secretary said that usually I would've had to wait until the next day to actually receive it.

If there is no criminal record they do NOT want fingerprints. They take your fingerprints at the interview. Read over the instructions of packets 3& 4 carefully; they specify what's necessary for the police check. It states that searching the CPIC is sufficient.

Going by that page it looks like he will need those vaccines. Maybe you could call Dr. Seiden's and ask if they know what the procedure would be (or try e-mailing them, they give prompt e-mail replies.) I guess since you're a nurse you'd know if OHIP won't cover the vaccines yet. Well, you haven't got NOA2 yet (according to your timeline) so your medical will probably not be in August- OHIP won't cover them as soon as your son turns 12 even if you try to get them from somewhere other than school? :/

CanadaForm DS-160

Hi JeannieL,
Thanks for replying.

No didn?t call DOS and I?m not sure if Montreal has sent packet 3, but my fiancée has received the MTL case number from the NVC in May. The problem was that we didn?t know that we could get the forms from the consulate?s website and send them without receiving the packet 3.

You?re right, the mail strike might held up, but after waited more than 2 months without packet 3, I started searching for more information and I found out that I could complete the forms and send them to Montreal instead of waiting the packet 3.

Do I still need to find out if packet 3 was sent or since I have the MTL case number we?re allowed to submit the forms without receiving the hard copy?

Another problem we're facing is that, the petition expires on august 24th, 2011.

You need to find out if Pkt3 was sent (it probably was) by calling Department of State. You press 1 and then 0, I think (or it's 0 and then 1, one of the two, lol). You do NOT need to receive the hard copy of Pkt3 to mail the forms back- all you need to know is that Pkt3 was logged for you.

Same goes for Pkt4. You do NOT need to receive the hard copy of Pkt4 in order to book an interview- about a week after mailing Pkt3 to Montreal, start calling DoS and asking if Pkt4 has been logged. If they say yes ask the operator if you're able to book an interview. If they say that Pkt4 is logged but they say you should wait before booking an interview, wait about 20 minutes and then call DoS again until someone tells you you're eligible to book an interview. The day that Pkt4 was mailed to me, I called DoS 3 times and booked my interview on the website on the same day. I received Pkt4 hardcopy about one week later. HUGE time saver!

It's common for Montrealers to not receive Pkt3 or Pkt4 hardcopies. Who knows why?

Also, regarding the expiry date of your petition, it's automatically extended as soon as you book an interview. For example, my petition "expires" on August 11th but my interview date is on August 22nd and it's not a problem.

Thanks for the great review! My medical is on Monday and getting nervous, but your post really put my mind at ease.

You mentioned you had to show the packet 4 letter from the Consulate... i never received any letter in the mail. Packet 3 and 4 was emailed to me, would that be sufficient for the medical exam?

thanks!

Glad it helped :)

As to your question: I'm not sure. You didn't get either as a hardcopy? I would suggest calling and e-mailing them to ask although I don't know if they're closed on the weekends. I have nothing to base this off of but everyone there seemed very helpful so I would think that a print out of the e-mail would be sufficient as long as it contains identifying information. It is from the consulate after all. It's also common for Montrealers to not receive Pkt3 or Pkt4 so perhaps someone who has experienced this situation will chime in.

Make sure to also bring three passport style photos, your passport, and your vaccination record. Oh, and the fee, of course (cash/money order/certified cheque only).

Hi Inky, yes I think we have to bring everything,,I was hoping for a CD, but nope, go the honkn' huge one, it looks like after reading quite a few of the Montreal interview reviews, they never asked any one for the x-rays, just the sealed envelepe..What I am nervous about is if they ask for the I-864 (evidence of Support) I was told that is for another visa, not the K-1. I pray they don't ask for this, because my fiance didn't fill it out, only the 1-134 (Affidavit of Support) plus his 2010 income tax, letter from employer,etc...

Coconut already answered this, but no, they don't want the 864. The 864 is for the adjustment of status. You fill it out after you enter the states. No worries. :)
