CanadaClaiming moving expenses?
I think the realtor was hoping I'd go along with her and she could get the commission. If I could claim it, it looked promising, not having to do the paperwork myself is always a plus. In any case, misinformed or on purpose, she's crossed her own name off the list of people I'd choose to sell my house.

No, it's not job related, it's on a K1. I hadn't even considered it until the agent said something... something fishy here??

CanadaClaiming moving expenses?
I've been told by a real estate agent, that I can claim all my moving expenses, shipping, real estate fees and lawyers fees on my tax return this year. Is this true?

If so, and you've gone through it, can you give me any helpful hints on what is and is not included? I'm considering selling my house myself, but if I can claim the real estate fees, then... hmmm...

CanadaVaccines

I'm sorry if I sound irritated about this. Don't worry about it!

So just to get things straight before I go in and throw my arm out again, for a 25 year old woman:

Tdap - The booster shot must be TDAP and will be administered irregardless of the TD booster I got last year? Yes

MMR - I had my two rounds of MMR as a child. Do I need a booster for this or not? If you have a record of it, no, if you don't have a record of it, then only if your titre test shows indeterminate for any of them. Mumps is only 83% effective.

Varicella - Had chickenpox twice. If I got an MMR booster now, do I still need that MMR/Rotovirus/Varicella booster? I guess if it comes in a three-for-one package, I might as well get it. A verbal statement that you have had Chickenpox will be enough for them. Rotavirus will only be offered to infants, as will the combined MMR/Varicella shot, don't worry about any of this, other than your MMR, if you need it as per the guidelines above.

Influenza - When are 2011 flu shots coming in? My interview/medical will likely be in mid to late September. I understand these typically show up in October. Bingo, I always tell my patients to eat their turkey for Thanksgiving and then phone me. We typically get the shot the second week in October. There is also a nasal flu vaccine available, that you may be able to get earlier, it's called Flumist, and you can get it at a pharmacy, but they will have to order it in. We've had trouble with pharmacies not wanting to carry it, but Walmart seems to be okay.

Hopefully if I can get some straight foward information I can go in and get the last vaccines I'll need to get for a while.

CanadaVaccines

Are you sure you need a varicella vaccine? If you've had chicken pox as a child they will accept a verbal confirmation. But getting a titres done should cover you on that front too.

Since we're already in a thread about vaccines, I have a couple of questions. So the panel physicians recommend people have MMR and TDAP, specifically. I've got my MMR and TDAP from when I was a child, and recently got a TD booster (TD, not TDAP) is that going to cause problems because it's TD only and not TDAP? Do I have to go out and get vaccinated again to ensure it's the TDAP this time? Also do I need to get an MMR booster? My last MMR dose was in 2007.

If you got your last TDAP at 15, and you were due for Td, and got Td, but not TDAP, then yes, I'm afraid to say, you DO need the TDAP shot according to the CDC guidelines, which follow along NACI guidelines.

Health Canada will also be requiring this of adults this fall, new, along with a second booster for varicella (offered as a dual mmr/chickenpox, and a rotavirus vaccine (oral!!!).

Public Health has recently sent our office a memo stating that the Vaccine Schedule will be changing this fall, and adults who have not received a single adult dose of Adacel(DTAP), will now be required to have this administered. I've been giving out Adacel several times a day since we got that memo, and we fully expect to be inundated with requests this fall.

So, as to do you need that shot? I'd bet you do.

As to your vaccine record, make sure to check with the public health department where you went to school, they would have required a record when you were enrolled, and should be able to get a copy for you.

I went to my doctor, and asked for a titre for hep b, mmr, and varicella, the results take a few weeks to come in, but it will give you time to update any that show inconclusive on, which for a lot of adults, mumps will, and you will have time to go see your doctor for a booster before your medical.

CanadaCanadian Police Records
I picked up my police records check yesterday at the local Waterloo Regional Police Main Branch. I told the lady that I needed a Canada wide name search for my records check. She asked me why, and I told her for immigration. She even wrote that on the form, I paid my 30$ and a minute later she handed me back a copy of it, keeping the originl. It says it was searched in the Canadian National Repository of Criminal Records. If your fiance is worried it's not the right form, have her scan a copy of it to you. You can always put lines across the personal info and post it on here too, if you're still not sure.

CanadaCurrent wait for Montreal to send Pkt3?
I'm currently waiting on my petition from NVC to Montreal, and tracking it from DHL. How long does it currently take for Montreal to log it and send packet 3 after DHL delivers it. I know from the other thread that the mail room was backlogged about 4 weeks, but is it still taking that long?

And I can't send packet 3 till they log it in and send it out to me right? (just want to be home for Christmas...)

CanadaWhere to donate stuff?
I'm having a garage sale, putting my furniture up on kijiji and donating the rest to Goodwill or the Mennonites. The Mennonites take anything, including rags believe it or not, and they'll make blankets out of anything that's not reuseable. They ship it over to 3rd world countries and it's put to really good use. There's also a group that will take any furniture and use it to help people set up homes after leaving abusive ones, so I'll be looking them up too.

The only thing I won't do, is donate to the Diabetes Foundation or another one of the groups that pick it up and take it to Value Villiage. I found out that Value Villiage pays them by the pound, and they don't care what's in the bag. For example, you could give them a ten pound bag of gold, or a ten pound bag of rags, and they'll get the exact same amount from VV, so I now just donate money directly to these groups and donate my used goods elsewhere.

I'm driving, but thanks for the link. I just remembered the funeral home giving me a list of things not to do without proper documentation including burial, and transporting across borders was one of them. I suppose I could send them through the home, but was hoping to just take them with me.

CanadaTransporting human remains across the border
I have an urn with the ashes of my son in it, that I plan to bring with me. Will the death certificate and the cremation document be enough to allow me to bring it, or is there another form I need? I talked to the funeral home and they said they thought that would be enough, as they will generally ship a deceased with nothing more, but because I will be bringing it along with my household goods, they said it would be wise to find out, but I can't find anything on it at all.

CanadaPACKET 3

You also need the I-134 Affidavit of support, birth certificate, proof any prior marraiges were terminated, court and military records, 2 5cm x 5cm pictures, and fiance letter of intent. All in addition to what was just mentioned. Also bring proof on ongoing relationship to the interview as well as more proof you met.

:)

Nope, not needed for packet 3, except the photos as already listed by the OP, but will need the rest for the interview.

My passport runs out on July 14 too lol. I am going to entering Canada I think on August 17thish with my expired passport. I did call the consulate and was told I can enter at a land crossing with an expired passport no problem. My plan is to fly close, rent a car, cross and go to the nearest Passport office with my paperwork and my intinerary and request an urgent passport. This was the recommendation from the Consulate. I did also call Passport Canada and they said it would be fine BUT there are no guarantees I will be issued an urgent passport, but since I will have 5 days they didn't think it would be an issue. And I was planning on sending my paperwork to my gaurantor to sign and mail back to me (I.e., a current passport holder in Canada). SO good luck I am sure you won't have any problems, but if you do live near a Consulate you should definately call them and see what they say.

CanadaJust for fun...when is the next time you're going "home" to Canada?
No plans in the immediate future - my mom and aunt are coming for Easter. I used to able to get flights from TO to Richmond for under 300, but they have gone up too. And like Flames said, drag with the baggage fees. I got lucky and found a cheap ticket last Christmas from Norfolk to Calgary for $650, but of course had to pay an additional $120 for luggage, still was cheaper than I thought it was going to cost.

Hey Flames where are you moving to?

CanadaIs this photo acceptable for the medical exam?
My medical exam is coming up at the end of this month, so I went to get the passport style photos taken. This is what they came up with:

Posted Image

Excuse my disheveled appearance, I did it right after work

I had to pay before receiving my photos and wasn't given a preview. When I received them I asked them to be re done and the guy refused.

Guys, is this an acceptable photo? Isn't it kinda off center?

More details: When I assembled packet 3 I thought they required 2 photos to be mailed off with it, so I got 5 done somewhere and they did a great job. I actually glued the photos to my packet 3 (I know, you're not supposed to do this, but it got approved so yay? XD). This left me with 3 for the medical exam, BUT I accidentally marked one up and got it all dog eared and yucky.

So, I was left with only two "good" photos. Thought I'd be consistent and get the same 3 photos for the medical exam and 2 extra just in case they want more at the embassy, which I don't know is necessary seeing as I glued photos to PKT3 already. XD

Well, this is what I was thinking: I already have two good ones for the embassy, so are these 3 acceptable for the medical exam?

I plan on going back to complain to someone else about the photos because they were not worth my money IMO. If I can't get them re-done at the same place should I spend the extra money to get them done somewhere else? Could this cause problems with AOS if I re use the same medical exam in place of a biometrics appointment (since it won't be expired by the time I file for it?) Will this cause problems at the embassy (Montreal, by the way)?

I used xpresspost (and a few others here have as well) although you're "supposed" to use DHL. It didn't give me any problems. I think it's supposed to be faster but I have no idea. I think it cost me 10 bucks, not sure.

You don't send evidence of engagement with packet 3.

EDIT: Although, be aware of the canada post strike. DHL is a private courier, right? So in this case it's probably better to use them. At least, don't use canada post/xpresspost. Maybe fedex it if you want it to get there fast.

CanadaPacket 3 Question

Thanks so much to all who have responded! Feels great to not be alone in this ridiculously convoluted process...

That's what this forum is for :) I would've gone bonkers if I hadn't found visa journey! Be sure to read the pinned topics at the top of the forums and check out everyone's experiences with the process. This place has done an awful lot to educate me. I don't want to knock your lawyer, especially as we're unaware of any complications regarding your case, but many people have found this place to be more helpful than paying someone else to assist you. It's not lawyers are incompetent, it's just because that things change so frequently with each individual consulate that it may be difficult for them to stay on top of it all. Here, everyone's experiences are conglomerated into one huge mass for your perusal :)

Don't be shy to ask any further questions :)

CanadaPacket 3 Question
It's not uncommon for people to not receive packet 3. Sucks that your lawyer wasn't very helpful. By the way, now that you have a case number, you can call DoS after you mail packet 3 and ask about packet 4. It will save you time  Since packet 4 is "logged" before it's mailed you can book an interview as soon as someone from DoS tells you it's been mailed out and you're eligible to try for a date. If the person from DoS tells you packet 4 is logged but you're not eligible to book an interview, wait a little while and call them back (like 20 minutes) until you get a person you gives you permission to book an interview.

Travel health care only. You have no options until you are married and have a green card.

I know this is somewhat OT (and I intend to start my own thread soon for questions for the post-interview process), but are you not eligible for your spouse's insurance (if they have any) once you immigrate and get married? That is, I'm coming to the States on a K1 visa and getting married ASAP. My fiancee has insurance at his work that covers family members- but do I have to be a permanent resident/complete AOS/have a greencard to get health insurance, or can I get it as soon as I have the marriage certificate? Or is this up to the individual insurance company?

Sorry for derailing the thread :D

I think I had this lady the first time I called DoS to ask about Pkt4. She didn't give her name or anything, just told me I was not able to book an appointment even though Pkt4 had been logged. I hung up on her though and waited about 20 minutes before calling back and getting a different person.

CanadaTrouble With Toronto Medical
I think regardless of what's "bad" medicine, it can be agreed upon that these are professionals who should act and communicate with their peers and patients respectfully. Going into a tirade is inexcusable- getting mad does nothing to resolve the issue faster or more effectively. A patient trusts their doctor because their doctor went to school for a decade in order to help people, so it's not the patients fault if they're given bad advice- heck, in this case, the patient actually tried to do the responsible thing and locate their vaccination records but again was met with unprofessional conduct. Guilting a patient because of what another doctor told them to do is illogical, irrational, and frankly reeks of a lack of basic human decency. Likewise, getting upset at another doctor is completely unprofessional conduct. All the doctors in Canada make up a part of the health care system and should do their best to work together and with other health care providers even when they have disagreements.

Yelling at someone over the phone and pushing a patient to cry is disgusting behaviour even if Dr. Seiden was wrong. I mean, parents teach their kids not to yell and scream- we're adults aren't we?

Ehh, I know this isn't my argument, it just bothers me slightly because what ralyse has relayed to us thus far hasn't indicated that she was trying to do anything other than what she's supposed to do. That is, she tried to be prepared to the best of her abilities but due to circumstances beyond her control was met with some difficulties and then blamed for them. Ridiculous.

TL;DR A professional should not communicate his "feelings"- whether right or wrong- when trying to resolve an issue. A professional only cares about "righting" the wrong, and the best way to do so is calmly, respectfully, and efficiently. It's not by yelling. When someone yells at you do you listen? Yelling won't make and adult do anything differently- if anything, it'll make them more stubborn and resistant.

Actually, this link has the same information but is easier to read: http://montreal.usco...ument=visa_pkt3 I should also not that in my Pkt3 I included 2 photos and a photocopy of the biographic information page of my passport, but others have omitted them and had their Pkt3's approved, so I am unsure of that. CanadaPacket 3
Hi,

You do not need to send off what's asked for in the checklist (birth certificate etc.) It's a little confusing because one of the forms (I forget which) also asks you to attach a bunch of stuff like your birth certificate to it. You do NOT include these things in packet 3- you submit them at the interview.

This is what you send in packet 3:

Signed Checklist
DS-160 x 1
DS-156K x 1
DS-230 x 1
DS-156 x 2

To this address, with your Montreal case number on everything:
ATTN: Immigrant Visa Unit
315 Place d'Youville Suite 500
Montreal Quebec
H2Y OA4

The Montreal requires the DS-160, NOT the DS-157. I will find the link that states this in a moment.

Althugh the DS-160 is done online I strongly recommend you print out an extra copy of it for your records.

Edit: http://montreal.usco...=immigrant_visa Scroll down to "processing of approved fiance petitions." It does not ask for DS-157, but it does ask for the DS-160. It lists everything that's required. Note that it does not ask for you to attach birth certificates, evidence, etc., just the forms. I did not submit the 157 and was approved.

Be wary of anyone giving advice who isn't K-1 at this point as the required documents are slightly different for spousal visas.
