My husband is military and often has no time during the day to call (and wait for a tier 2 operator for that matter). My job is a little more flexible. Canada	The Vent Part Quatre	I went outside was picking tomatoes and was trying to figure out why the cherry tomatoes all have yellow dots on em, so I came in and googled it and it seems its a spotted wilt virus. So as I'm reading up weather they are safe to eat (since the kids eat them right out of the garden). My neck and face have been burning since I came inside. Well it seems that my tomato allergy is not to just eating tomatoes, cause now I am covered in hives all over my neck face and arms every part of me that brushed up on the plants. I took some benidryl and have a cold cloth helping to take the burning out of it. Oh geez.. definitely stay away from the tomatoes! I've luckily never had hives but my kids have and I know how miserable they are when they had them As I was walking from my car to the building I work in, I see a man and woman walking and talking together. They finish their coffee's from starbucks at about the same time and then they put them on the ground, in the parking structure, not more than 5 feet from a trash can. Usually, I don't say anything, but in this instance, I said "wow, thats effing lazy" under my breath. They heard me and took offense to my comment. Yes, I was rude, and I do regret saying it so loud and for using "effing". But I simply have no tolerance for people that lazy that they can't walk 3 feet out of their way to throw something in a bin. Canada	The Vent Part Quatre	How funny... I came on here to make a 'T.G.F.V.J.' post as well. First of all, to those of you going through such hard times *hugs*. I am so sorry, and send you strength. As for me, I have a vent related to people who just DON'T GET IT. I use Facebook as a venting ground as well, and today, amongst other ####### that's happened that most of you know 'most' about, I found out something else I have to get from Canada now. So naturally, I bitched about it on FB (in very generic terms as I usually do without detail on there... such as telling someone to never move to the U.S. because it's not worth it.. lol). Anyways... one of my friends made some comment about my negativity, and I about lost it. So instead I ignored her and responded to the people who DIDN'T complain about me complaining. lol SO... in short. Thanks VJ... for not being b!tches about us needing to b!tch. I had the same thing happen to me on facebook. Gotta love those supportive friends. Everyone needs to vent on occasion. The funny thing was this 'friend' of mine complaining about my negativity does the same thing. The other day she was complaining what a day she had and how cranky she was... I was tempted to comment "Gee...that doesn't sound real positive...don't you have anything positive to say?" As it was I had told her if my status updates bothered her that much then either set them to not show up in your feed or delete me. On another note...I woke up this morning and the a/c is not working. Canada	The IRS/CRA Income Tax Thread	This will be the first time I've ever done my own taxes. Can anyone point me in the direction of the easiest program to use for a beginner with a 'leaving Canada' file? My situation is basic, outside of the emigrating at the very end of December: basic income with deductions, savings account with minimal interest made, etc. Can anyone point me in the best direction to start? I know hubby uses Turbotax for his own taxes... but since we weren't married in 2009, he can't claim me, correct? I simply file for Canada and he files for the US? Quicktax is very simple to use. You can actually go to their website and do your Canadian taxes right online. Its cheap and easy. Your hubby can't claim you for 2009 since you were not yet married. Do I have to report and pay taxes on these amounts now that I'm in the US? My son (K2) received his NOA for removal of conditions (actually before me) but he hasn't received a separate biometrics appointment yet while I received mine a week and 1/2 ago for February 23rd. Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	bank statements / joint tax returns as evidence	Yep - we got 4 affidavits done, I just forgot to put them on the list :-) Can't do credit card really - my wife and I do have a joint one, but I've never used mine (I can't stand the things!) so don't have any statements with my name on as evidence (and they send individual statements, not joint ones anyway). I'll have to check our cards, though - maybe they share the same number so I can just photocopy both of them onto one page. That's not great, but it wouldn't hurt to include it. cheers Jules Our credit card is in my name ... I just photocopied the front of the cards together on one page. Back when they were selling the "CANUCK" t-shirts I really wanted one but they were sold out all over T.O.    I want this one so badly     My dad found a funny shirt for me that says something like, "I Love my Canadian Fashion" and it has a toque, etc on it.    I feel sad that whenever I wore my red, plaid flannel, my friends would always compliment my "Brantford tuxedo" (replace Brantford with any other "simple" country town/city) ... no one in the US would ever get it, lolol.   It's insane how much I love Canada and how much I miss it!! We're about a year out but we make lists for everything on google docs.  At this point?  It looks like in my suitcase I'll have two or three changes of clothes, a LOT of Canadian food, condiments and probably I'll hit some shops for some really Canadian keychains and stuff to give people while I'm there.  I don't anticipate returning to Canada for quite some time, though, as I have no family to send me things.  I think in a lot of ways that will make things harder.  Until my fiancée is done grad school, I probably won't see Canadian soil again and, while I have friends I will certainly keep in touch with, I think it'll be hard in a lot of ways. I think what I'm going to miss the most is autumn.  It doesn't seem to be the same in Austin and I certainly can't take autumn with me.  I'll probably end up with a framed picture of fall somewhere.   There's something about seasons that I miss so badly. My heart ached when I was in Hawaii (on vacation in Toronto now!) and I knew that all the leaves were changing colour, and that particular bite of cold air is in the wind signalling winter slowly rolling in. I'm immersing myself in it now. Perfect sweater weather, we always called it. I miss seasons! People think I'm crazy, but it's a very special time of year I'm bringing real Canadian maple syrup back for a couple people at home who have never had it! The real stuff is super expensive in HI, so all they know is table syrup. Getting ready to blow some minds.    I miss old forests, I miss our landscape, I miss being up in the country, I miss getting dock-drunk, haha! I don't know where you grew up, but the whole "going up to the cottage" phenomenon is huge in Ontario... getting away from the city and escaping for a few days to commune with the country and beer. I miss that in HI. I hope it's a thing somewhere else in the U.S... they don't know what they're missing.    If you're unfamiliar with the website Reddit, they offer "sub forums" for every topic you can imagine. I've started hoarding all the Canadiana I can to bring to the U.S. How do you commemorate your homeland?	- I bought some beautiful wall calendars showing Canadian landscapes (they still put me more in awe than Hawaii's beaches and jungles, believe it or not) I couldn't find any big coffee table photography books, so that will have to suffice... for now.  - My aunt bought me a tin of biscuits from the Bay with Canadian wildlife on the lid. A lifetime keepsake for me! - My mom bought me a stuffed moose toy :3 - Boxers with Maple leaves all over them! - I have one keychain for all my Canadian keys that has a moose, raccoon, etc in a little canoe... my Hawaiian keychain has a hula dancer (yawn) - Canadiana mugs for the litres of tea I consume - My biggest commemoration is in the works. A tattoo of the North Star, Polaris! My cousin designed it for me last night. I hope it will always remind me that I can always go back north, to my true north, strong and free!   How do you keep a little bit of Canada with you wherever you go? Canada	Another OHIP question - Will I be able to get it back if I ever move back?	So I officially POE'd June 2012. This is the date that I basically gave up my OHIP coverage. I have a CR-1 marriage visa. I'll be filing for ROC in a couple of months. I plan on renewing my Canadian passport as needed, as well as after swearing the oath, and then carrying two passports.    I never notified OHIP that I was leaving the province (let alone the country), but it's my understanding that a lot of us don't... and as I understand it, as long as we don't try and use OHIP after we've abandoned residency, it's all good. I am covered by my husband's insurance in Canada, so I'm not concerned about that.    But what if my marriage becomes a train wreck and ends in divorce? I would want to move back to Ontario regardless of whether I was naturalized or still a green card holder/permanent resident as my husband would be the only thing keeping me attached to the U.S.   (I am very happy in my marriage, so I'm not having future premonitions or anything, I just want to know what I would need to expect.)   Now, I know that Canada wouldn't see me as a non-Canadian citizen once I swear the oath in the U.S., but would I still have to apply for the return of my rights as a provincial resident (or anything like that) first and then OHIP?   Does my status in the U.S. (whether PR or naturalized) determine how I would get OHIP back if I needed to?   I'm looking at the "Registration for Ontario Health Insurance Coverage", and it asks about citizenship in section B: New or returning residents of Ontario. Would I say American or Canadian? (assuming this is after swearing the oath, getting an American passport, etc.) Form with instructions in PDF: http://www.forms.ssb...ile/0265-82.pdf   In section C: Citizenship or Immigration Status, would I check "Other" and write, say, "Dual: Canadian/American" ?   How do I find out if I am no longer covered by OHIP? If I ended up re-applying and they told me "You are already covered" or, "You're in ###### now because you never told us you left the country in the first place" ... I would be lost. And confused. And worried.   I really never looked into this stuff and the government websites are absolutely horrendous to navigate, and they don't really cater to the questions of ex-pats. Canada	Medical Review of Dr Lyndon Mascarenhas (Toronto)	I really liked Dr. Seiden's office. Canada	Immunizations REQUIRED for Medical/Immigrating?	Yeah, he'll need to get them done. Like someone else said, the flu shot is seasonal so depending on the time of year his medical is, he may not need it. Chicken pox is verbal, which they note on his paperwork.   I took my vaccination record (my mom had saved some paperwork from when I was a kid, and I called Ontario Health to get whatever they had on my record) to my GP along with the Visa requirements list and asked her to double check for me that I had everything since I'm a layman. Canada	IN A RUSH - does anyone know California requirements for bringing a cat from Canada??	Yay! A vet never checked out our cats, I've never heard of them doing that.   The treats we had bought from PetsMart doped up our cats so well that we didn't have any issues pulling them out when their carriers had to be x-rayed. They were definitely anxious, but they were clinging to us like scared children rather than mortified cats, haha.
