My friend was actually talking about an American moving to Canada and only needing a marriage license. She wanted to know why it was so hard to move to the U.S. if it is so easy for a U.S. citizen to go to Canada. I don't believe it is that easy though, it can't be. I live in a border town, and there are so many couples around here that cross back and forth, I am thinking maybe this person was talking more about dual citizenship or working in Canada or something. I don't believe you can just get married to a Canadian citizen and immediately immigrate to Canada without having to do some sort of application or paperwork.


It is far from that easy. Living on a border town just makes it easier. My niece did that and although he still had to file all the regular paperwork he was able to get a 'temporary resident" permit so he could stay with her but he still had to cross the border everyday for work. Until he gets his equivalent of a 'green card' he can't work in Canada. My fiance also lived in Canada on a work permit for a few years and we were looking at him getting his permanent residency here and it was going to cost us the same if not more then me going to the US and it was going to take longer. I don't know where people get the idea that Canada just throws open its borders and says "Come on IN!" lol

I have my heart set on a beach wedding this time. I managed to find a beautiful dress from Dillards...and an all-inclusive wedding site that will allow me to reschedule my wedding date if necessary. I will have my beach ceremony in Florida (God willing). I'm not sure what type of wedding ceremonies you want to have with your SO...but maybe you could look into a destination wedding of sorts here in the States.

Please keep your head up and know that this too shall pass. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

One of the bad things about life, is that no matter how awful you think things are for you, there are always others who have it worse. It saddens me to hear of people waiting years, and all the beurocratic nonsense that goes on sometimes. It also terrifies me because although sometimes you can identify the reason someone gets held up, no matter how ridiculous the reason like the fact they have Muslim name, often there is no reason at all. It could happen to any one of us. Most of the time it seems the Government is all about rules and codes and procedures, but this VISA stuff seems so random and based on chance. It's the luck of the draw who's desk your file ends up on and what they do with it.

There has to be a better way.




Oh I WISH all I had to do was show a marriage certificate! LMAO Being Canadian doesn't mean I get to get through this process any faster then anyone else. All it means that I can easily cross the border to go visit. Easily...but not cheaply.

So tired of the questions, I know many of you must get the same ones. I know there isn't anything I can do about it. I think I need to be banned from this website, because every time I check Igor's list and see all the approvals on petitions that were filed after mine, or I see people get approved in just weeks, I want to scream, throw things, and cry. Yes, I know it has only been 110 days. Yes, I know other people often wait longer. We have a very straightforward petition as far as I know. I can't think of any reason for a denial, but every day with no website update, no touch, no RFE, just nothing...is an eternity. I don't know how so many of us do this and remain sane. All that BS about petitions being approved in the order they are recieved makes me want to throw up. It just makes no sense...

How do I not get angry with him for not filing sooner? He wanted to stay and work and save money....but he lost his job anyway, and if we had applied when we originally discussed, he would probably be here by now. I have to be one of the most impatient people in the world, I don' think I hate anything more than waiting. I know there are people that hate it as much as I do...how do you do it?



I hear all the same questions and it makes me crazy as well! We lived here in Canada together for years and then he had to move back to the US. We have been waiting for YEARS for my divorce to become final so we could be married and now that it is........we CAN'T! We have both been married before so we just want a very simple wedding on the beach so I could probably plan the whole thing in less then a week but still...... How is any of my family going to be able to get the time off to come? My oldest brother (god bless him) already called me and said "Well don't worry about it sis...just let me know when. I left a weeks' holidays open at work and I can leave without too much notice". Unfortunately he'll probably be the only one that would be able to make it. Then there is the kids....they ask me constantly when we'll be moving....their teachers ask me....UGH.

Yes I totally feel your pain as does everyone else on this forum.

All we can do is pray it goes quickly.

i-129f sent on 2009-02-14 and NOA1 received 2009-02-18? That's only 4 days! How could that be possible? It take 4 days for the i-129f to get to the process center. I sent in my i-129f on 2009-04-20 and received my NOA1 2009-05-09. That's 19 days!

Are things much slower now? Or am I missing something?

Never doubt the VJ timeline, this is the best it can get.... if you used a check you can look behind it and get the receipt number, then you can use that number on USCIS.org to check the progress.

It doesn't matter what country you look at....you're gonna find SOMEONE who had to wait an unreasonable amount of time. I'm from Canada and I've seen people wait over a year......I don't think the USCIS cares.

Hard to say anything when you won't fill in your timeline. I see alot of people that have been waiting for over a year....they in my eyes have every right to vent. If you've been waiting 2 months...then you seriously need to chill. Why won't you fill in your timeline? That does annoy me because you are relying on that data for your vent about how long you've waited but you won't share that and help the data improve and give us a clue as to how you are feeling. At this point though I'm assuming you haven't been really waiting long at all.

She is wrong. You can wear them as long as there is no reflective glare on the lenses. Any glare that makes your eyes hard to see will be refused.

You really need to think this through. Once he is here it is YOUR responsibility to support him. You are signing documents saying that you will. Being a mother of 3 myself...you're having doubts now is not good. Unfortunately I have seen a few stories here about people using Americans just to get in the country. If you suspect that is what he is doing then I suggest you contact USCIS and cancel your petition for the K1 visa. Also if your not even sure if you love him or your friend then that is a sure sign that this relationship is not meant to be.

Congrats to you too! As for the USCIS...blah....they aren't even entering new app's in the system anymore. Mine and a bunch others from the same time don't even show online. Yet some do....hmmmm. Someone called and they gave some story about updating the system and we probably will never see anything online.

As everyone else, I was getting frustrated not hearing anything after 4 months and sitting in the same received and pending status, so I decided to write my local congressman. I did not get a response back, but then the next week I got an email about my NOA2. I am not sure if he contacted someone who was able to pull some strings or if it was just a coincidence. Regardless, it helped me vent my frustrations to someone while I waited.


I think you just got lucky. I doubt they had anything to do with it as you hadn't even hit the 5 month mark yet. It jsut happens that April filers seem to be getting approved now in you got in the right pile on the right person's desk. Congrats smile.gif

Richard, it's the social security that you have to do before the I94 expires but I was wondering when that's filled up, does the beneficiary have to state a return date? because i think the I-94 is filled the beneficiary when he/she arrives into the U.S no?

I believe the I-94 automatically gets a 90 day number... because we have that amount of time to marry or return. And yes it is the beneficiary's date.

When you enter the country as a foreigner, the immigration gives you a little slip of paper referred to as an I-94 form. It has the date on which you MUST leave the country. You carry it around in your passport and hand it back in when you leave. It is entered in the computer somewhere and is tracked.

I won't go so far as to say the 90 days is a trial period, but we do plan on waiting to the 60-75 day point to marry. Just in case there are some deal breaking habits either of us have. I don't believe we will, because we have been talking about these things, but yo never know. Oksana is being completely removed from her culture and while I will have to adjust to living with her it will be by far more difficult for her. Thats why we decided to use most of the 90 days. ur s right...I have not spent more than 25 days living with my SO..but again it has been on "vacation" is not the same as living for good with him...i know its difficult..but I hope love its stronger than that



I am confident that our love is strong enough. We are just trying to be realistic and unfortunatley the only way for people in our situations to find out is just to do it. Although I am not worried, because lets just be honest I am PERFECT.
