CanadaPassports
Whew .. thanks for the info ... I was at my sisters for dinner tonight and she had told me that as of January 1,2007 I will need a passport to travel back and forth to the states (I am currently going every 1 - 2 weeks for the weekends)... It's nice to know that I have a little more time ... no wonder the lines at the passport office are so huge ... It was a minimum of a 2 hour wait at 10:30 in the morning this past Monday ... I've decided that I'm going to get there at 7:00 in the morning and be the first one in line and that way I won't miss much of work (unfortunately I'm all out of vacation and sick days for the year!!)

Yes, Air by 27 Jan 2007, sea and land by 2009.
Get your passport now if you can! I went to the office, showed them my BC, they scanned my pic, and I had it in my hands, xpress post, in 10 days.

CanadaPassports
I'm trying to decide whether the timeframe would be okay if I mail off the request for passports instead of waiting 2 hours at the passport office .. they say it takes 20 days from receipt to send out but I know darn well how anything government works in Canada!!! At what stage are passports required (I will also send my longforms with the paperwork instead of my BC cause I'm back and forth accross the boarder) ... I still have yet to get my NOA2. Any info would be appreciated .. thanks!

Vietnamflirting= harmless?
I might be fortunate, but I have NO interest in flirting with other men. My husband is who I want to be coy with, not some guy I know could never measure up. Personally, I would be really upset if I knew he was flirting with someone else, and I know he would be just as hurt if I did it. However, like mentioned earlier not all couples function like this. I didn't dedicate years of my life to him and become his wife so I could share him with other gals

VietnamWhat should the Asian women do for their lives and their families if they married to American citizen men?
Tough to write an arugmentative essay based on opinions. Impossible, actually. There's no room for anecdotal evidence. This would be better suited to an Op-Ed type of piece, unless you actually look at a broad spectrum of people who have been surveyed, the results peer-reviewed, etc.

K-3 Spousal Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHusband growning impatient with the process
The problem is you put your life "on hold." The majority of people on here seem to obsess over their paperwork when they could be doing something far more healthy. You and your husband need to find something else to do while waiting for approval, or else you'll turn into a basket case.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)K-1 visa denied
Why is that so unreasonable? I've seen people get denied because their mothers coincidentally had the same maiden names, but zero blood relation. See, I'd understand if he was still doing his military service and unable to travel, or literally could not afford the time away from home. I've done it for my husband when he asked for help, and he also did it for me. It also shows that both parties are taking care of each other financially.

It's great when people make sarcastic responses without anything to back up their snotty attitude

*Of course my suggestion could not be the only reason for a denial. Don't get mixed up. Something small and trite like that could be enough to push a demon adjudicator in the wrong direction if they have other underlying reasons.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)K-1 visa denied
Here's what's popped into my head:

You guys have been together a long time, and you went to see him pretty often (in contrast to many other VJ couples). You have a comfortable income (again, no idea why they'd want a co-sponsor). You presented good evidence of your relationship. But maybe they were alarmed that he never went to see you? The way I'd see it as a C.O. is "If she makes good money, why can't she fly him to the U.S. for a visit?", or send him money to arrange his travel plans. If you keep that in mind and compare it to couples who see each other once or twice say within a year, and it's always the same person traveling upon the time of application.... and they get approved without issue.

I'm half Armenian, so I understand that culture has nothing to do with this denial. It's definitely a weird one, and it's cruel to accuse OP or her fiance of any lying or carpet sweeping. Their case was unusual from the beginning. Hajoghut'yun.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Unique situation - please help!
Please don't use Canada as your stepping stone. That's very offensive to me, and I'm sure many other Canadians. Don't try to twist and wind through the system. Your plan is awkward and you will get caught in a "misrepresentation." Find another way, and play by the books.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresConfused As To What To Do From Here
I'll start this with a disclaimer that I'm not 100% on this info, but I'll provide the I-864 instructions for you to take a look at. Plenty of others can help you with this issue, but I can start you off.

I know that if you haven't filed in the last three years, you either do it, or you can provide a very convincing explanation. Provide as much proof of current income as possible on top of whatever option you go with. You can use any other assets you may have as well to beef up your Affidavit of Support.

And if you're asking if your co-sponsor can use their income for the entirety of the AOS, I don't think so, as the document is meant to bind the petitioner (and any co-sponsor) to the beneficiary, not just a co-sponsor and the beneficiary. Again, someone else can certainly clarify, negate or correct me. The whole point of the form is to show that you as a petitioner can financially support your applicant and that they will not become dependent on the state. Think about it that way, and come up with whatever you can, find a creative way to assemble it and go from there - see what you need, don't have, don't need or cannot use.

Here are the I-864 instructions: http://www.uscis.gov.../i-864instr.pdf

You could also post in the CR-1 forum - much more activity there.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresConfused As To What To Do From Here
K-3 is a redundant Visa being phased out, go with CR-1.

You would have to show your income via paperwork, and your co-sponsor would have to as well.

Good place to start is here: http://www.visajourn..._live_in_the_US

Here is the table which shows the income you would need, based on state and household size: http://www.uscis.gov...form/i-864p.pdf

You really don't need to hire a lawyer to do this, especially since they're really good at messing things up - there are volumes of stories of lawyers giving wrong/bad/retarded advice, sending away incomplete forms, etc. Many users here would recommend you put the time into your application so you know what's going on, and it's in your control. And of course you save the money.

Unfortunately, this process takes a long time, and there is no easier way (including paying someone to deal with it.) Mine started in July, and only now am I seeing the finish line. Make sure your relationship can withstand it as well. This forum is chock full of intelligent people who have dealt with everything imaginable, every form, every department... utilize this place, and save yourself the hassle, trust me.

Good luck.

I really think that if you tried to appeal by saying "I didn't know I needed to disclose my past charges, etc" it will just make you look worse. Follow other's advice and wait that three years.

I'm in Ontario, Canada. When the time comes, will my interview be in Montreal or Ottawa? At one time I thought I was sure it was Ottawa, but now I'm thinking it's Montreal? Or is that just where the medical will be done? Sorry, I'm a bit confused. (Probably not the only one in here today who's feeling that way.)

Hi Erin, and welcome to VJ! Haven't seen you posting before, but please check out the Canada forum where we're there to help you with the process, and anything unique about going through the Canadian Consulate, moving, physician's appointments, photo's...you name it! Here's the link.

Hi, and thanks for all of your replies.

For the medical, Montreal is closer for me, but of course I'd go anywhere I had to go, now wouldn't I? wink.gif

Tim and I are just at the starting point, where we're gathering up stuff to photocopy etc. to send with the K-1 application. I've been all over this website including the Canada forum and Wiki pages, doing alot of reading over the past month and trying to become as informed as possible. Thankyou anyway for the links. I'm looking forward to getting to know some fellow Canadians going through the same process. smile.gif While reading some of the embassy reviews recently, I realized that alot of VJers have actually met while having interviews the same day. That's so cool!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFiance at Embassy interview
I know I'm way ahead of myself, as we arene't even ready to send in the I-129 yet. But I've been reading alot of the embassy reviews, and it's my understanding that fiances are allowed at the interviews. Do they need to bring i.d.? Anything else they should bring? (besides their gorgeous faces? lol) Are they always allowed in the interview rooms, or are some asked to stay behind in a waiting room for any particular reason? Just wondering, because moral support from the better half would be great at that point in the process.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionShould I fret about a missing divorce certificate?
I've been divorced twice. I've got the divorce certificate from the second marriage, but have applied for a copy of the first one. Believe it or not, I put the incorrect date of marriage on the application (some things are best forgotten wink.gif )...so they returned the application asking if I wanted to do a 5 year search. I agreed, and put the dates to search on the application and sent the required fee. That was about a month ago and I still haven't received anything.

Now here's my reasoning....Why would I even NEED a copy of my first divorce certificate, if in fact I would have had to produce it in order to get the marriage license to get married the second time? (Yes, I did....and no, I have no idea where it is now, which is why I'm applying for a copy.) I know I'm just off on a bit of a rant right now...but really???

I know this is a hypothetical question, but IF for some reason I don't have the first divorce certificate by the time we're ready to file, would I be able to produce it at a future date without slowing down the process too much? Is there some notation I can make on the F-129? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Again...I know I'm just stressing a bit over this. tongue.gif

Sorry, I posted this same question a few minutes ago in the Canada forum, but I kinda need an answer as soon as possible. I'm at a friend's house using her computer right now so I don't have much time...

This is frustrating! I don't have a photo right now, but will bring it to Montreal with me. I've been reading alot on VJ that you can just try to upload any pic from your computer, then when it fails you can click on "continue without photo." Well when I click on that it just sends me back to the first page. I can't see any way to get past this stage. I know that others here have managed to get past the photo stage without successfully uploading a photo. How do you do that?? Suggestions? :help:

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS 156K asks for I 134
So does that mean I messed up myself by not sending in the documents with the DS-156K?? For some reason I was under the assumption that they were to be brought to the interview...maybe because of things I've read on vj?...or maybe I got things confused. Now that I look at the instructions for the DS-156K I'm questioning whether I've screwed up badly. I submitted all the forms to Montreal last week. What's going to happen now? Will this slow things down because they'll request those documents before proceeding, or will they just ask for them at the interview?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpackage 3
I have just completed packet 3 and sent off the required forms to Montreal. Here is what they asked for:

Form DS-230 - Part 1 - one copy

Form DS-160 - one copy

Form DS-156K one copy

Form DS-156 - two copies

Confirmation receipt regarding Form DS-160 - one copy

and checklist (they'll enclose one) indicating you have obtained the required documents.

All of the above forms are available online. The letter from Montreal will provide the links to those forms, or you can find all but the DS-160 on Visajourney here:

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnyone experiencing delays from Montreal?

My apologies in advance if this is in the wrong forum...it's my first post :)

Getting frustrated and annoyed with Montreal Consulate.

We received the NOA from UCIS on February 4, 2011, the file was sent to Montreal on February 14, 2011 and I am STILL waiting for the packet 3. Is this normal?

It's been almost 3 months and still nothing! We emailed requesting for a status update and received a response a month later to just say that the case is still being processed. Is the packet 3 mailed to me? or do I just complete forms that are available online?

Anyone else experiencing delays from the US consulate in Montreal? Our original application was submitted beginning of August 2010.

What a frustrating process...

Any help/answers would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I feel for you!! I wish I had an answer for you but no one seems to really know what's going on there. From what I'm reading it seems everyone is experiencing a lot of frustration with the lack of communication from Montreal. I know they aren't booking interviews right now either. I'm not an expert by any means but I would think that if you haven't been contacted or received the P3 by now I would suggest the petitioner contact his Congressman for help. Not being able to call the Consulate or even get a timely response to an email question is adding a ton of unnecessary stress.. it's unacceptable in my opinion. They must be experiencing some kind of staff shortage or something but wow, send a generic notice out or something!!!
Good luck! I hope you hear something soon! Hang in there and try not to let the stress get to you. :-)

HI there!

So twice in the last 12 hours my husband and I have received e-mails from USCIS stating that our case has been transferred to a local office for further processing. I presume that this is to deal with the neverending backlog, but why send the same e-mail to us twice?

You just have to keep trying the number. I often get a busy signal. Try 30 seconds later and get through. I find the busy signal only happens during peak hours. If you call first thing after they open, or towards the end of their day it works like a charm.
