CanadaI'm stressing a little ...
I'm starting to stress a little about the wait time for Montreal interviews ... I've been confident up until recently that my move date of June 30th would be plenty of time to get things accomplished ... now I'm not so sure. We want to make all of the arrangements for a wedding in Vegas July 8th ... does it look like I'm dreaming?

CanadaLatest line of crap from Montreal
I cannot believe or understand the way the government runs (both sides I might add!!!) Twice I called Montreal .. was put on hold for 20 minutes listening to that god aweful music and then mysteriously disconnected .. It's enough to drive a rational person totally insane.

I'm just really at the beginning of my sincere frustration with this process .. I'm feelin for ya!

CanadaNOA1 - How long before you receive anything?

check the processing timelines on the USCIS website for that service centre.

The problem is that this service centre does not show for I-129f as apparently they are being sent elsewhere?

Our I-129f was received in Nebraska on Thursday September 21, 2006 ... I'm curious how long before we receive anything in order to track our case?

I wnet through Texas rather than Nebraska, but like me, you will be transfered to CSC. See my timeline in teh signature line. Everyone is different, but my NOA1 came in the mail long before the check was cashed.

Sometimes it takes 3-4 weeks to receive the NOA1 so don't worry just yet.

thanks for the reply :D ... I know I'll have to be patient ...

CanadaFrigging Montreal!!!!
I had posted previously that I sent an email to Montreal asking if I would require a notarized letter of consent from my ex-husband even though my court order reads "There will be no restrictions on location of primary residence"

Montreal advised by email that I would require the letter (which will be difficult to obtain because my ex has lapsed on child support payments and is being rather difficult to get along with)

Today I finally got through to them on the phone (last week I was put on hold twice for 20 minutes and both times disconnected) and operator #5 (funny how they won't even give a name) told me that the court order will be enough and that they would just keep it on file. Her first response to me after I gave her my MTL # was my case was processed and in que for an interview date before I even told her why I was calling.

Talk about creating stress in an already stressful situation!!!!

Ending this in a sigh of relief ..... and on to waiting patiently for an interview

CanadaK-2 Visa Non-Custodial Parent's Notification / Consent

I just used my court order. I had no letter from the father and Montreal was okay with it.

If you don't mind sharing .. what did your court order read exactly ... did it specifically state anything regarding immigration?
lynamonFemaleCanada2007-03-06 16:31:00
CanadaK-2 Visa Non-Custodial Parent's Notification / Consent
That appears to be the case ... I was sure that I wouldn't need anything but my court order (it was drawn up with the knowledge that I would be moving to the States) and Montreal went threw that one out the window :crying:

Lynette, I tried to send you a pm but it looks like I missed hitting the send button

Are you saying that even with your court order stating there is no restriction on place of residence that you must provide a notarized letter with the father's consent at the visa interview?

CanadaK-2 Visa Non-Custodial Parent's Notification / Consent
I thought that I would share this with all of you who are dealing with the same issue ... I'm highly upset because when my divorce order was signed back in May my ex-husband had no problem with my taking my son to the states ... since then he has lapsed on his child support payment and FRO is after him. Now he is laughing at me because he knows that I need this letter ... unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!

Yes a notarized letter of consent from the father is necessary.

Thank you.

SECOND REQUEST

I sent the following email on February 15, 2007 and am awaiting a reply:

Dear Sir/Madam:

Regarding my son listed on the Fiance Visa Application whom I intend to bring with me to the United States .

My court order reads "The Applicant shall continue to have a final order of custody for the child and the Respondent shall be entitled to reasonable access on reasonable notice. There will be no restrictions on where the child's permanent residence is located."

Applicant being myself and Respondent being my sons father.

Is this sufficient or will I require a notarized letter from my sons father acknowledging consent to bringing him to the United States ?

Thanking you in advance,

Lynette

CanadaMedical Exam
Hi
I'm 35 and didn't have records of my immunizations. I disussed it with my Doctor about getting titres done and she told me that it would not be harmful to just get the shots again one way or the other, which are free of charge through the government. (titres may come out of your own pocket as I've seen some people here charged for them)

As for the medical required for immigration ... get a receipt and if you have a medical plan through work .. submit it to them ... some insurance companies are re-imbursing for these costs. (Sunlife did it for I think Jersey Girl)

I'm under the age for influenza shot but my son had to get twinrix jr for hep a and b which is a series of three shots (he received his first one, then a month later a second one and then 6 months later the third one which still yet has to occur) which was re-imbursed by my insurance company 80% (he's 8 yrs old).

I hope this info is helpful :)

Canadaland POE w/ drivers license and b.cert
I cross at Peace Bridge every week to two weeks and have been completely honest about where I'm going and why. I have been pulled over once and they asked me a bunch of questions and they told me what I would require to carry with me every time to show proof of ties (letter from employer, lease agreement, utility bills, and my K1 paperwork).

Since then I just give them my passport and the questions are down to a very minimum and I've not since had a problem (even though I cart my paperwork with me everytime).

CanadaI drove my USC's Truck Home
This weekend I travelled down to Cleveland on Thursday and planned on coming home on Saturday evening. It snowed there and snowed alot and when I tried to head home back to Canada in my Honda Civic the whiteouts were too bad so I stayed until Sunday afternoon. There was so much snow in downtown Cleveland that I was clearing snow off to the level of the hood of my car ...

With a few attempts to get my car out to the road we parked it and agreed that I would take Ed's 2005 GMC Sierra home because I had to work today.

When I got to the boarder the duty guard at the gate told me that it was not allowed to bring a US citizens vehicle across the boarder and told me to go inside to talk to the guards there (my heart sank as it's a 3 1/2 hour drive back to Cleveland .. it was 9:00 at night and I had my 8 year old son with me!!!).

The guard inside was very nice when I told him my situation .. he had heard that the game had been cancelled in Cleveland due to the snow. He told me that he would issue me an I-99 which would allow me to have the truck in Canada until next Saturday .. what a relief!!!

Just thought that I would share :)

CanadaAttention Canadian folks...question about Moving and crossing the border

Hi, I moved from Toronto to Rhode Island on a K-1 visa and we came through Buffalo NY. It was in September 2004 so 1) my memory is a bit foggy (though that might also be because we left at 5:30 am!) and 2) my info might be out of date, but here's our story in case it helps. :)

I rented a U-Haul in TO. When I packed my boxes, I numbered everything and kept a notebook with the numbers and contents of each box. The cat came with me, so I asked the vet for a copy of his records and switched him to a food manufactured in the US. The latter may have been overkill but I wanted to make sure a change in diet wouldn't be a problem.

My husband (fiance at the time) flew up when he had some time off and drove down with me as, having relied on public transit in Toronto, I was really uncomfortable with driving a truck. When we got to the border, we showed my visa to the border guard and he waved us over to a side building. Unfortunately, this is where the foggy memory gets in the way...I remember showing them the visa and the notebook listing the truck's contents, and that the process was quite fast with very little hassle, even when I mentioned the cat. They may have asked about plants (I didn't have any). I did ask about EADs but they said they no longer issued them at the border. They stamped my passport with the date of entry and sent us back to the truck to drive to the gate, where they let us through.

I think I phoned the Buffalo crossing before the move to check what they would require...you might want to try this. The phone numbers are listed at http://www.cbp.gov/x...rts/ny/0901.xml.

Good luck! I hope this helps.

Hi all,

Does anyone have a good link to the US Border site? We're getting close enough that we'd like to start getting prepared for 'The Big Move' . Thus far, i've looked at movers sites and many allude to using a particular form (name or #?) and having them handle everything. However, consider the cost involved with having someone move me, we're considering renting a truck and handling it ourselves.

I'd like to know if anyone has moved recently from Canada or is about to and can tell me about their experience.

Thanks :)

I called the Peace Bridge last week and the duty guard told me that they do stamp your passport with the temporary work authorization stamp

That's crappy ... Montreal is frustrating the heck out of me :( ... I hope that they aren't telling you one thing and doing another (which apparently has been happening quite frequently) and that they re-schedule you sooner than later ...

CanadaFun With Phone Calls -- Some POE EA stamp info

I had called the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie and they told me that they give the stamp ... that was about three weeks ago .. :)

I crossed at Peace Bridge at Fort Erie on Feb 5. And they were INSISTANT that they did NOT give the stamp, and that NO ONE at ANY POE gives the stamp. I was then told that I could just go an get a job because no one really cares anyway. Nice...

Anyway...I wouldn't trust Peace Bridge officials as far as I could throw them.

oh dear
