CanadaQuestions about tuberculosis and medical records
Thanks for your replies.

I contacted my local health unit but they didn't have a record. So I just emailed the health unit in the city where I went to school. So we'll see what they say.

I also wonder just how long a doctor would keep medical records once you're moved.... huh.gif

CanadaQuestions about tuberculosis and medical records
I'm on VJ daily now, finding loads of helpful information. Yes, I'm addicted. yes.gif

I've been on the Seiden website looking at the immunization requirements etc....

I remember as a child being tested for tuberculosis, and I had a reaction which resulted in my having to take some pills for a period of time. Since I was young at the time, I don't recall how long I took the pills for, or whether I was even required to stay home from school. From what I remember, I was told I had only been in CONTACT with someone who had been infected with tb. Nothing ever happened after that...I didn't get sick or anything.

My first question is whether this positive test reaction that I had as a child should be of any concern to me at this point?

Regarding my immunization record, my second question is whether I can obtain that somehow from the Ministry of Health?

I am aware of the titre test to determine what I am immune to, and I will go that route if necessary.

I don't have a family doctor right now...I just use a walkin clinic when necessary...so I don't have access to any previous medical files.

So another question would be, how do I obtain ALL of my medical history files from childhood until now?

CanadaVisiting US prior to K1 Filing
I'm in the same boat as you, Piefre. I'll be going to the US for Christmas and probably staying for a month. At that time Tim and I will be organizing all our paperwork to file, and that's exactly what I'll tell them at the border...and I'll have stuff with me to prove it. I'll have a return ticket, and a letter from my employer stating an expected return to work date (My boss is great...so accomodating! biggrin.gif ) I also have NO mortgage or rent to pay, so like I said I'm in the same situation as you are. But I'm not fretting about it because VJ has prepared me! Other members are so great at calming others' fears. good.gif

CanadaChoosing and some questions...
Hi, new here. This website is full of amazing information.

My boyfriend is American (Florida) and I'm Canadian (Ontario). We've decided we're ready to take our relationship to the next level.

We've been researching like crazy and are still having a hard time deciding what to do. We've agreed on me moving to the US.

I'd just like some opinions, what worked best for you, etc.

We were looking at me going there soon and us getting married and then filing the I-130, but I've seen a lot of comments on marriage fraud and how we might get in trouble because I went over there with the intent of getting married...

So, I suppose the fiance visa is a better option?

I'm so confused sad.gif

Also, if I was to go visit now and we filed for the fiance visa... can we do that while I'm visiting and then I come back to Canada?

Am I allowed to re-enter the states during the process or am I stuck in Canada?

Can HE visit me in Canada during the process?

CanadaI got my drivers license today!!:)
I finally got my noa for adjustment of status so I headed down to get my Ohio pick up my temp packet and do the written first thing this morning after I dropped my son off at school at 8:20

I had all of my docs except for my marriage certificate so had to drive home and go back .. frustrating but no biggie .. not like I'm missing work or anything lol. Found out I didn't need a temp packet so I went and did the written and passed and then they told me that they could squeeze me in for my driving exam. I was so nervous but it went well .. then when I went back to the other office for them to give me my license and the computer system went down. Arrrggg ... so by 12:30 pm I was driving home with my newly acquired license. Had I known that I was going to take my driving test today I would have at least done my hair instead of the usual ponytail as of late smile.gif

It's so ridiculous, but today was such a mopey day for me (and not because my Thanksgiving dinner is tomorrow, hehe). A couple of my good friends came by and we went to visit the store where we all used to work at. Naturally the topic of "hey, what are you up to now?" came up and so I mentioned that I was leaving on Thursday to Philadelphia. I guess it just really hit me that I'm going to be leaving the city soon, and I've been pretty emotional since then. Over the weekend my mom and I spent time together, and she kept getting weepy at random moments.

I guess I'm just nervous about moving to a new place where the lifestyle is completely different... from being able to walk/bus everywhere to being completely reliant on the car in Bee's area, missing all the restaurants that I love in Vancouver, sugar to HFCS, etc. I'm just worried that I'm going to be incredibly unhappy for the first few months due to the fact that I'll be sitting at home with a thumb up my #######, bored out of my mind and isolated because I don't have a way of getting around, and entertaining myself with video games and horrible soap opera telly for twelve hours while Bee is at work.

/rant - Anyone else feel/felt like this, or other thoughts?

I'll tell you .. I went through the same thing and I currently am sitting around bored out of my mind but there is always VJ ... and facebook of course. To tell you the truth for the first long while once I got here the time just flew .. we got married, went on our honeymoon for a week and then working on the house and unpacking and getting things organized not to mention you will be together and quite truthfully I didn't start getting bored until nearing the end of September. Theres so much to see when you move somewhere new that it eats up so much of your time. Currently I drop my son off at school in the mornings ... come home and drink like a pot of coffee while I read the new VJ posts and check out my facebook. Then I get showered and work on something around the house until I have to pick up my son again at 3 and by that time my husband is awake for me to follow around like a puppy dog cause I'm bored lol (he's on nights so he sleeps during the day). In all honesty though I'm not nearly as stressed out as I was before I left .. now I just search for things to worry about smile.gif.

CanadaWhen To Get Married?
QUOTE (PfcsBaby @ Oct 10 2007, 10:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thats a whole other thing that I wanted to get into, but figured that it could wait. I never did get my drivers license. I said for years that I would, but never did. I always had public transportation to use and no car, so I just put it off for all these years. Well now that I'm moving to Georgia, I need a drivers license. Where my fiancee lives, you need a car to get around. The closest gas station is about a 30 minute walk away and I just can't do that all the time. Am I going to have to wait until my AOS is approved before I can even get my license? I tried looking on the DMV website several times and all it says it something about needing proof of immigration, or something along those lines. I'm guessing that means my AOS huh?

I'm not sure about your state but here in Ohio you have to prove that you have filed for adjustment of status which is the NOA that you receive once filed.
lynamonFemaleCanada2007-10-10 09:34:00
CanadaWhen To Get Married?
As long as you get married within 90 days your fine ... you can still get your SSN within two weeks of arrival. You may want to keep in mind though that you most likely will not be able to get a drivers license until you receive a receipt notice stating that you filed for adjustment of status (although you will be able to drive on a Canadian drivers license for I believe 6 months ... you would have to check with your state and that may become a problem with being insured ... my insurance company only covered me 60 days from point of entry which was State Farm Insurance) .. and you will not be able to apply for AP and EAD until you file for adjustment of status .. if you file before AOS for EAD it will expire along with your I94 (90 days from point of entry).

As I came across with my son .. the most urgency for me was Advance Parole.

CanadaLocal Police Certificate or RCMP?

Hi,

I'm very confused about which one to get. On one hand I read that RCMP is better because it's a Canada Wide search (and it avoids the 3 municipal checks I would need)but requires fingerprinting first, then application for a criminal check. When I called the 613-998-6362 number and they say there is a 150 day wait time on Criminal Checks (and I KNOW I don't even have a criminal record),

On the other hand, I look @ Toronto's Police Services and they use the same database as the RCMP and they DON'T require fingerprints, of course they also don't state how long it will take for the criminal check.

So which service do I use that will take the least amount of time? I'm 3 months away from my wedding date!

Thank you,

Hi .. just noticed that your timeline reads that you got your NOA2 for your I129f on 05/17/07 and that you have wedding plans for October?? and going through Montreal??? .. I'm really sorry to point this out but you may want to check out the timelines for interviews in Montreal ... I received my NOA2 December 13, 2006 and my interview is coming up July 18th .. have you received and sent back to them package 3 yet?

Set up an account at www.customhouse.ca ... you will be able to send funds via EFT from your American account and into a Canadian one and the exchange rate is reasonable ... and there are no fees (other than the exchange rate of course). It takes a bit to set it up but after that it's a breeze

CanadaTransferring Canadian funds to an American account
I also left my Canadian account open. EI deposits funds directly into it and once my mastercard is payed off I will transfer the funds into my American account via custom house (not to mention my child support is also deposited into it) .. cashing a Canadian cheque into an American account costs a whole lot more than changing Canadian money into American in Canada. The banks here definitely do gouge.

Just in case anyone is wondering .. I qualified for the maximum amount for EI which is 423 per week less the 106 tax deduction for 36 weeks. I believe that the rules are 55% of your earnings or 423 per week whichever is the lessor of the two.

And also for those single Moms with US fiances ... Child tax credit and GST stop at point of entry smile.gif

CanadaHealth Insurance
I'm having a heck of a time figuring everything out down here .. we are eligible to change the plan at my husbands work ... right now for a family it's costing us about $140 from his pay biweekly for PPO Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Thank God he has medical insurance through work .. 2006 was a $180,000 year for brain surgery and all of the testing, MRI's and such that go along with it ... and this year for radiation, I'm sure his insurance plan has had to fork out at least a few 10's of thousands.

He wants to change his plan because the worst is behind him but I have to do the research to make sure that we don't put him into a bad situation with the in network and out of network crappola.

He's guaranteed to need an MRI every year and if I'm not mistaken I believe that it costs about $3000.

In Canada we had absolutely no clue what the costs were for medical expenses so this is a whole new jaw dropping experience for me.

Hello Every Lovely Person Here,

Thankgodddd for this thread, for this forum.
I have only recently braved diving in, and only after reading such informative, loving and kind posts.
What great stories! Thank you.

What a difference from the only other forum I play in.
They are brutal. Sharks. Those of us who survive the newbie status and beyond (way beyond), have grown thick skin. Not something I think is a good thing. I am digressing though.

Hopefully you are still interested in reading another story.
Sit back, relax, and take a deep breathe.
Let it fill your belly.
Release it sloooooowwwwlllyyyyy....
mmmmm...

Please do take this in the spirit in which it is meant: friendship, love and compassion. rose.gif rose.gif rose.gif

I sometimes call myself a pagan anarchist.
Not because I identify with being an atheist or anything extreme really...I am simply allergic to paperwork and authority.
So, you can imagine how much fun I've been having since the romance of wanting to live with the man I love turned into an inhumane, disrespectful, unreasonable wait times that seem to be growing like a weed on acid, never-ending nightmare of forms, hoops, fees, border-barriers, et al.
Do I sound bitter? unsure.gif
As an adult child, and living in the moment, each month feels like an eternity.
I am used to feel like a free person.
I had lived as a kind of nomad in my city for a decade and travelled for almost 3 years in and out the U.S. on sailing adventures....sometimes for a weekend, sometimes for a month or two.

I believe I can do/be what is right for me, without causing harm to others, and bringing much Love & Light to every-one I meet. I do not believe in nationalism nor patriotism. How could anyone say one's country is better than another? And who but yourself can have authority over you? I believe separation brings up (propagates) fears, hence fighting and killing. I truly believe love and compassion can heal all.

Ah, but my idealistic feelings and ways of being do not work in this game of sign here, go there, wait, wait, wait, now go!
How does one stay in integrity and go though this?

And that great confession of how challenging it is to be good to your lover when living apart and all you have is the phone...it just sucks. We only ever get frustrated when we are apart. Of course we are together for such short bursts, who would waste such precious time?

Does anyone else here think that a 90 day time period to get married once you enter the U.S. is ludicrous? With a divorce rate of over 50%, you'd think that immigration would insist people live together for a year before tying the knot. I believe in spending 4 seasons with someone to get to know them better....living together. Oh but we are not allowed such reasonable and logical requests. Hmmmm... make do make do....

Forgive my inability to say anything good at the moment. I have been crying for 3 days and do not feel well.
This process and its inability to make any sense to me, has taken its toll.
/rant

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Changing tacks:
My precious fiancé and I met debating on a sailing forum.
He ended up inadvertently giving me a new login name. I loved what he called me so much, and his tenacity and courage to argue with me, as I am quite adamant (no kidding, huh?), I ended up asking him to marry me in that same thread. I was kidding of course, as I never thought I'd get re-married. Then the group started planning a virtual wedding. And that hijack was so much fun, we PMed and then emailed. A lot!
After a week or so of this, I caught myself completely off guard when I picked up my cellphone and dialed his number. Once it rang, I couldn't hang up! He'd see the number. We talked late into the night.
I already knew. I could feel it. You know? heart.gif
After trying to dissuade him that a long distance relationship and one between two first-borns would never work, he bought an airplane ticket to come and meet me...for NINE days! The moment I saw him at the airport, any doubt left and I hid. I knew I really did love him, and AAAHHH, now what was I gonna do?! I was terrified. He found me hiding behind a post, and much to the delight of on-lookers (Seattle airport), he came right up to me and kissed me. I backed away just laughing and laughing and he did it again. After the 3rd time, he pulled a red rose from under his jacket, handed it to me, and I grabbed his wrist and pulling him towards the seats. "We have to sit." I was feeling weak, shocked!
We sat, and I had my hand on his knee and I was staring into his beautiful oceanic blue eyes, and he broke the silence, "I'm real." Well, I almost passed out. Ha! This is something I have never experienced. I knew I was in all the way. After a decade of fierce independence, he is the one I want to be with. That night, I drove us back to Vancouver, we wrapped ourselves around each other in the V-berth of the boat (I lived on at that time) and it felt perfect. Safe. Sweet. Loving. After teasing him, being playful, and him calling me a brat, I said, "Oh but you love the brat" in a joking kind of way. And he got all serious, "As a matter of fact..." I looked at him, the smile wiped off my face, "I do the love the brat. And, well, I wasn't planning on saying it this quickly: I love you." (it went something like that) That was last November.
I am now in Montreal and he is in Chicago.
Waiting.
Good night all.
Writing this was (again) great therapy.
Thank you for reading it.
