CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview
QUOTE (lgg @ Nov 4 2009, 02:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well, not to be a debbie downer or anything...
But since this is the third or fourth month in a row now, I'm pretty sure that I can predict that they are done scheduling the CR1s already.

They've done this for 4 months now. Schedule between 4 and 6 (on this site) at the beginning of the month ( or at very end of the preceding) they tell the rest of us who call "oh wait until the second or third week and we'll be scheduling them then". They never end up scheduling any more. Because then they turn and start scheduling K1 interviews. Last month was awesome for the K1s, they got cleared right out which is freaking great. Doesn't look like they're doing that for the CR1s. There are still end of June, beginning of July cr1s waiting.

#######... this is so fvcking shitty. I know, tell me to wait blah, blah, blah but this is the fourth month that they've enacted like this. They're done. I bet you a dollar there won't be any more CR1s from this site scheduled. They tell us to call back mid month as they're preparing to schedule for the NEXT month even, you know? I've seen this happen for four months now. It's ridiculous.

I really don't want to be right but it's starting to be a real drag getting all excited and not just for me but what about Americana2009? And IHEARTNVC? GREENHAUS? They all finished in June/Mid July. IF they don't get one, we won't get one as we finished mid August.

These people at the Montreal consulate svck balls.
This is just my theory -- I would love to see it disproved.

And I wanna know, is there a reason that they're leaving all the CR1s to sit? WHy don't they clear us all out too? Is it because we can work right away? What? There has to be a reason that on this site alone they can schedule 22 K1 interviews compared to liek what 6 CR1s? C'mon...

Anway. it's just a real friggin downer to read back and see this pattern and know, pretty much, that we're done for another month.

Being a K1 I haven't really kept track of how they've been scheduling interviews till just lately but I do hope your wrong....I sure didn't like seeing the K1's wait from June/July and I hope that they do the same for you guys as they did for them. It sure isn't fair how this whole process works from start to finish. Its all just ####### and all you hear is BS all the way through..."Some cases take longer"... "Additional processing"..."Call back next week...we don't schedule till then". Worse part is there is nothing we can do and complaining only seems to work in a handful of cases. I really wish you the best of luck and hope this ends for you soon.

so it's impossible to get through to DOS since the earthquake in Haiti. "all circuits are busy please try again later". i doubt emailing montreal will make much of a diff..been a month and a half since my last email with still no reply.

Really? Well thats sucky news. Hopefully they get that fixed in the next couple weeks before we all go nuts (even more so) wondering if we have interview dates.

I wouldn't wait until the last minute myself. They reason they don't want you to get it too early is because if its been more then 1 year since the medical and you go to apply for AOS you will have to do it again. So if you got your medical and then your interview was in 5 months, didn't move until 5 months after that and then got married 2 months later...there's your year and you're outa luck. You'd have to pay to have another medical all over again in the US.

Another reason why some have their medicals right before their interviews is because of the travel expenses. If you live out east then people usually plan on a weeks stay in Montreal to do both the medical and interview rather then have to travel there twice. If you live close to TO, Montreal or Vancouver then there isn't much reason to wait. Also Vancouver seems to do things differently where they can have their medicals in the morning and interview in the afternoon. That isn't an option in Montreal.

Three months to receive packet 4 (interview letter) that will tell use we have, what a couple of weeks to a month to an interview?

The letter you receive in Packet 3 will tell you that an interview will be scheduled in approximately 4-6 months after they receive your packet 3 back. People have been waiting about 4 months. If you call DOS you'll probably find out when your interview is before you get the packet 4 letter in the mail. People get anywhere between 2-5 weeks notice that they have an interview date.

My sister and I were talking yesterday about how I should just have my religious ceremony even if I don't have the "paperwork" for the wedding. Then get married legally by the justice of the peace when the visa does come through. I had to laugh at her logic. Um, I don't want to get our adjustment of status messed up because of our "wedding pictures" being before any legal wedding.

I just saw another Montreal interview waiter that got his Packet 3 in 16 days from the consulate receiving their petition from the NVC. Yeah! I am more hopeful that if the wait is closer to 4 months, then my fiance' will get his interview sometime in June before our hopeful date of July 11, 2010. I am going to call NVC tomorrow to see if my petition has been sent to Montreal. They said they had it yesterday, but it was finished being processed/entered into their computers.

The packet 3 isn't a long wait....its the packet 4 (interview letter). The packet 3 is sent out quickly and then you have to send that back in and wait for it to be logged and then you get put on the wait for an interview list. When they did a bunch of them in October some did get lucky and didn't have to wait long because they scheduled so many at once. Some had sent their packet 3 back in late June/early July and people who sent theirs in the first week of October all got booked for November and December interviews.

Getting in line for my interview.. :clock: I sent my packet 3 last week. How do I know when they've got it? I'm scared to read the 100+ pages of posts on this thread.

You call DOS at 1-202-663-1225 and press 1 then 0. They can tell you if your packet has been logged and they will also inform you if you have an interview date.

The way my k1 process has been going with all the delays mistakes etc. we have not set an exact date. Other than to say 2 days after i use the visa lol. Just going to have a quickie wedding at his parents house, his dad will officiate, and we'll have a "proper" wedding next year on our anniversary. i'm to scared to actually plan anything and then have to cancel it all if we have any more visa issues. :(

I hear ya. At this point we are just planning a quickie wedding and be done with it. We've waited SO long we just want to be married and move on with our lives!

CanadaK-1 people waiting for interviews at Montreal

I just made my daily call, hoping to hear something different, especially since all the CR1/IR1 February interview scheduled (congrats to you all!), but no. I was told that I was the fifth person that's been eligible since the end of November from MTL that called today. She said MTL is in such bad shape they've gone and asked Washington for help. Then she included, not with the visas of course, but with other things. She still told me to call everyday and good luck that we hear something soon. Who knows what to believe when it comes to MTL. They're in bad shape, they're really trying to get through the backlog (told to a number of November interviewees), they've hired staff, they've asked Washington for help... This is ridiculous! I am particularly frustrated that the fee increased at the consulate by so much...right in the middle of our petition. I'm sorry that I'm not all that optimistic today. Maybe tomorrow. Hopefully some of us K1ers will hear something soon.

The fee hasn't went up yet. Hard to say if we'll make it through before it does or not. Doesn't impress me much either considering I'm paying for 4 of them.

yeah I noticed Vermont sped up after I went through...yours took 28 days...mine took 156. Even if I was done in 28 days back then it wouldn't have mattered....I still would have waited till November for an interview. People waited from June/July till October to hear about their interview date.

i have another question smile.gif i was looking at what all is needed for my interview and it says i need to bring my birth certificate but it has to have my parents names? mine does not have this and i asked my mom about it and none of my other siblings have their names on theirs either. i'm from Ontario and i just have the little blue one with the picture of Ontario on the back. Does anyone know what they mean by having the parents names on the birth certificate? do i need to order a new one?
Thanks!

You need a certified copy of birth registration which you can order here

I changed my address when it was still at USCIS. Called twice and sent in a letter. They even sent me a letter stated that my address was updated in their system. We called yet AGAIN to confirm this. They apparently were full of sh!t.
Montreal STILL sent it to the wrong address. Calling NVC only confirmed that it was never updated and my packet 3 was indeed sent to my old address. Emailing Montreal is your only option unfortunately.

My P3 took almost 2 weeks, so don't fret yet.

I'm still wondering why my P4 is taking more than a week though.
I mean... where in the world is it coming from?

I just hope my visa doesn't take this long.

hey good luck in your interview

what you mean by Packet4 ? is it the medical examination ?
we already send packet 3 included the medical examination , i looked to u timeline and i saw that u medical examination was after u send the packet 3 !
the medical examination was in my checklist as the forms and other documents in my packet 3 !

The checklist is a list of things you have to have when you go to your interview, you don't have to actually send it all in with the packet 3. Lots of people don't actually have the medical until after the checklist is sent back in. I won't be having mine until just before my interview. Packet 4 is a letter that informs you of your interview date.

Every ten unless we naturalize, yes? Haha.

Yeah, you certainly don't need the whole packet. Just make sure you have access to a printer when filling out all of the forms, and make extra copies.

I'm naturalizing ASAP and so are the kids. No way am I going to go through this forever and ever....I NEED a light at the end of the tunnel!! Dual citizenship and be done with it forever. I can't wait! lol

That reminds me....a gf of mine who moved to the US with her mother who married an American just told me she JUST got her citizenship a few weeks ago. She's been here since she was around 14....maybe longer. Over 20 years anyways...I found it odd that she waited so long.

Yeah I figure a good scan will probably be fine as well. I just exerted a little more effort and found a copy of the page that tells you what forms etc to fill out. I was just going to have her overnight me the whole package but it seems a tad pointless if all I need is the checklist. Guess I'll get to work on all these forms....ugh....I'm so sick of all the paperwork. How many more years of this do we have left? lol

So I'm waiting on my packet 3. I know this has been gone over 8 billion times but what exactly comes in this thing? I've seen the check list that is included (thx Sam) but what else is in it? What all gets sent back besides the checklist? Apparently there is some form that you submit online....someone help me out here lol. Right now I am in Florida so my packet 3 is going to be sent to my home in Canada and my sister is going to forward it to me so I can fill it out and send it back. If the only thing in it that has to be sent back to them is the check list I can get her to email me a copy or something that I can print off and sign and send back. Would that work? Help anyone?

I am a bit behind all of you with my immigration timeline. I just called to see if my packet 3 had been sent out. She informed me it had (yeah!) and that I did not have an interview scheduled as of yet....lol They must be anticipating that question today!!

With all the K1 interviews being scheduled yesterday, I am wondering now if it would still be beneficial to try to move it to the Van consulate (I could 'move' to my parents in Alberta so that would be possible) or wait it out at Montreal. I am being laid off from my job at the end of Nov, so I was hoping to not have to wait too long for the interview....and as of last week going to Van seemed like the best choice! Now I am torn sad.gif

Tough call....I am also waiting on my packet 3 and last week was thinking the vancouver thing as well. I guess I'm just gonna send it back to Montreal and pray they don't screw the next batch of us over and make us wait till April and then schedule everyone who sent back their packet 3's from october to march at once. Who knows what they are going to do. All we can do I guess is pray they've caught up now and CONTINUE to KEEP caught up....

How many people are still waiting for interviews?? I seen a couple here and there but its so hard to keep up they've scheduled so many here lately.....can we start a list of still waiting for Montreal interviews? I'll be on that list probably next week. We called today and apparently my case was sent to Montreal on the 15th and packet 3 was to be sent out either today or tomorrow.

I just called and we have an appointment date too- November 20th at 8:00am.

I called me fiance and you would think he'd be excited but he wants me to post-pone the interview because we changed our wedding date to April 29th, and so obviously he can't activate his VISA until February 1st. He says he doesn't want to go that long without seeing me so he'd rather put off the interview.

I am crying right now . . .

If you do that, you could actually lose about 3 or 4 months for your interview. You very well could go back to the bottom. In fact, I believe that in order to change your date you need a "valid" reason, not just "I don't like the date."

As for seeing him, the USC can still go to Canada. . . . . . . unsure.gif

I don't know what to do. I told him I couldn't talk to him anymore and hung up the phone. Since March we had been planning a New Year's Day wedding, and then we went with April 29th because it seemed like we wouldn't get an interview until 2010.

I don't even know who to call to try and re-schedule.

After the visa is issued you have a 6 month time frame to use it so getting it in November and not using it till February is still an option unless there is some other reason he doesn't want to go to the interview in November that I missed.

I think it was more of the "they didn't want to be apart that long" deal. Cause after the interview, she can't cross into the US without activating the K1 visa.

This sh!t is all just too complicated isn't it? Nothing like trying to plan a wedding when you have no idea when you going to be "allowed" to get married. Unless the invites have been sent out I'd be switching it all back to January 1st and telling him to get his a$$ to that interview. Sorry he's being so difficult .......this process is crazy and stressful enough without having the SO adding to it. I'm sure when you both take a deep breath you'll be able to talk and figure it out.

LOL!!!! I made poutine for my very American in-laws and they thought that I had gone completely bonkers!! Oh well,... more for me!!!

As for your POE it will be at pearson... be nice, smile and say thank you lots. Or you could be like my 3 year old and look the officer in the eye and say "can we just get to the states already!". It was cute coming from her... not sure they would take it well coming from an adult though.

I'm a polite gal as it is, so I'm not worried about losing my temper or anything with anyone - especially at that point. If I've waited since 2007 to live with him, plus the wait time for the entire Visa process, I'll definitely be able to handle an extra couple hours. It'll suck if I'm taking a morning flight though to be there so early

Mostly a lot of sitting and waiting.

I figured as much, good to know my bio gets done at the airport though. I wasn't sure where they'd do it.

CanadaPOE Question
I usually fly with a connection to the states out of Pearson International in Ontario. I usually end up in Washington Dulles, Charlotte, or Reagan.

What would my POE be? Maybe a dumb question, but I want to be clear.

I always speak with American customs at Pearson (before dropping off my luggage, carry-on screening, etc).

So where would I be getting my stamps done at the very end of CR1? The way I interpreted POE was it's the point of entry in the U.S. - when I land in Jacksonville for example, it's straight from gate to waiting area to find my boyfriend - no customs. When I land in the U.S. do I have to go somewhere specific to get my stamps?

A little confused
