Canadainterview I-134 or i-864 tomorrow
K...I'm digging in the archives....cuz I need to know....what is needed for the K1 interview in Montreal.

For my interview (September 2012) do I have the I-134 completed with documentation OR do I have the I-864 completed????

Thanks!

I did some archiving and found this post....Poncheros replied....and has been through the Canadian process recently and has given very good advise in her posts. I see that your from Brazil and worked with other consulates....maybe this is where it differs. Here's the link http://www.visajourn...&st=0#msg690163

Last night I checked all my correspondence from MTL and although it is inconsistent (sometimes asking for both I-134 and I-864) I will proceed with having the I-134 completed until I hear otherwise. This is not the first time information on their websites differ from email correspondence or other print material.

Thanks for your help.

Canadaletter of employment

bonuses are difficult to prove as current income as they are not guaranteed income.
In Canada, the K1 obviously fills out the I-864 versus I-134. There have been several threads on that and it is on Canada's consulate website.
His contract should suffice for employment, not sure about it though. Would not hurt to get a current official letter of employment, paystubs, and tax returns. It will only strengthen the affidavit of support. Just meet all the requirements within the instructions of I-864.
Also, I might point out that there have been others from Canada that took both the I-134 and the I-864 to ensure they have exactly what is needed as there has been confusion regarding which affidavit of support to fill out for K1ers.

Thinking I need clarification on this one.....any takers???

I understand that Montreal is happy with I-134 and proof.....not I-864. Later, during the AOS process I submit the I-864....right???

Can someone clarify this for me please.

Thanks

my fiance's work contract stipulates income and bonuses.....will this suffice for proof of employment and income or does he need to contact his employer and ask for an official letter of employment?

thanks

CanadaCrossing border as a teacher during summer
I am a teacher too. I've been doing this border crossing gig for 8 years now and not once have I been questioned at the border. I have always flown but return tickets have never been asked for. And since starting the process with the K1 visa I have carried the necessary papers and still have not been questioned. I usually spend close to 5-6 weeks with my man. I travel both via YYZ and through BUF. You should have a problem.

CanadaEnhanced driver's license after receiving K! before POE
I was in the same boat...had pending trips to the US after visa potentially was issued but after research and confirmation from MTL I cancelled my interview (without problems). Confirmation from MTL stated it was entirely up to the border patrol agent processing my entry to the states and could not guarantee that I had a choice in activating k1 visa or not. Knowing this I chose to reschedule my interview in MTL even though I would be using nexus to enter the states at YYZ. To me, its not worth the hassle, expense and disappointment to be denied. I chose to postpone the interview and wait. I've waited eight years now...I can wait a little longer.

CanadaWhat Are You Reading?
I just finished the Fifty Shades trilogy....they were good and not as 'sexually intimidating' as media presents.

Also just finished Bared to You which was on the same line as the 50 series.....and looks like it will be part of a series too.

Friends have recommended the following for my summer reads:

-A Thousand Splendid Suns ......and.....The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini

-The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo

-The White Tiger by Adiga Aravinal

-The Book Thief by Marcus Zuzak

-One Night @ the Call Center by Chetan Bhagat

I went to the library tonight to investigate these titles and sure enough....holds were on them....so I know they'll be good.

Born in and raised Welland.....can't believe there are so many of us with previous ties to Welland.....is this world really that small?

Moved to Hamilton in my 20's and been here since.....once this is finalized I'll be making roots in Reno NV!!!! Yahoo.

I'm very happy to leave the clouds, humidity and grey days behind.....Reno is reported to have 360 days of sunshine each year and there is always a breeze thanks to the Sierras.

CanadaDepartment of State says : no 160 if 156 is done

thank you rob and monika... are you using Montreal or vancouver? I have all my stuff ready but the NVC still has not processed there part yet. I may have an opportunity to change to Vancouver as I live in Winnipeg. I hear it is so much faster and I know the area considering I lived in Abby for a while.
thanks.

i had a few problems with ds 156 but none with ds 160. i uploaded the photo first too and had no problems getting the confirmation page which is what you send in with your completed package. if you continue to stay with mtl you may need to show confirmation page at the interview as well. so if you stay with mtl, i'd suggest making multiple copies of the confirmation page and print out the completed form.

if vancouver is closer...i'd be going there instead. could be quite expense heading off to mtl for an interview. don't forget you need a medical too...is there a location nearby for this? if you have to go out of town for this...you may want to stay a few days, piggybacking it with the interview.

hope this helps.

Canadamedical: report states....vaccine history incomplete

Mine said that too :) No worries. It just means that you aren't eligible for those vaccines (due to not being of age or not being flu season).

so i should have no hicups at the interview wrt the medical.....correct?

thx

Canadamedical: report states....vaccine history incomplete
got my medical package back today....attached to the sealed envelope was the cd of xrays and a paper stating....

results....vaccine history incomplete...applicant may be eligible for blanket waiver because vaccination not medically appropriate....

looking at the chart which is also on this paper everything is accounted for by dates or by stating not age appropriate or not flu season

am I okay? interview is tuesday in mtl.

is this notation something to worry about?????

Canadawahh... just venting
hang in there....this process tests more than nerves.....i've had my fair share of problems too and my interview is just around the corner. remain optimistic. i've learned over the years the squeaky wheel gets the oil....so be that squeaky wheel and voice your concerns. i know that emailing the consulate is slow but they do reply and do give personalized answers.....I've also called and spoke with 'live' people who have helped give me solutions. be proactive and as the others have suggested...get your fiance to contact their congressman. good luck!

Canadaat interview....did you need to submit additional passport photos?
i'm about to complete my interview review and curious in knowing if other recent vj'ers have had to submit passport photos at MTL interview for the k-1 visa. we had our interview on tues sept 11 and no passport photos were requested. others have posted the same info. wondering if mtl has changed their practice since they ask for ds160 to be submitted with a photo electronically.

this would cut the photos required to 5 from 7....

does anyone have inside info on this topic...would be good info for the newbies!

CanadaSept 11th Interview in Montreal
did they ask you for additional photos?

curious...as others have posted no additional passport photos were asked for...and neither were mine....yet I had them as it was stated on packet 3 and 4. thinking MTL is no longer requiring additional photos since they use ds160 electronically and have you send in 2 photos with packet 3.

Oh I had the same interviewer. She looked overly skeptical about pretty much every answer I gave her to the questions. It was very unnerving. I'm not sure it was just because of the day. I think she just tries to look like she's very involved in what you're saying. In retrospect, I read her expression as "and then"?

Best of luck on the return of your passport!

CanadaSept 11th Interview in Montreal
i had my interview on tuesday....and was approved!. i'm a k-1 and TJChu was a IR 1/CR 1 so maybe that makes the difference. I do not have my visa yet and don't really expect it from DHL till early next week.

the actual interview was simple...where does he live? how did you meet? how did you get engaged? I had the girl with the dreadlocks...a really sweet person but she seemed really upset or preoccupied....which made me nervous ....but being 9-11 and 9 am (right after the workers paused from work to attend a brief ceremony and minute of silence for those who lost their lives) it could have been this that made her appear the way she did.

I will write more in my MTL interview review....which will be posted soon

CanadaDelaying interview with the consulate?

Hi there,
I have an interview with Montreal on November 5th for a CR1 visa.
I am thinking about requesting a later date. I'm currently at my wife's place in the US, since we just had a newborn baby. It is hard for me to schedule two trips back to Montreal in the next month, one for the medical and one for the interview, given that i don't want to leave my wife alone with the baby for too long. So I am thinking of contacting the Montreal consulate to see if they will give me a later date(ideally a month later).
Is this a good idea? Any idea if they would be receptive to this request? Has anyone here done this? My biggest concern is that requesting a later interview may delay it much more than 1 month.

I'm sure the process of booking interviews for K1 and CR1 are similar. I had to cancel my original interview as well. I tried to do this online but ran into problems, so I called the number on my confirmation email from them. I had no troubles at all. The lady was helpful in switching dates and within seconds I got another date and email confirmation.

Not a problem for me. Happens all the time....heck, things happen!

Good luck with it and the newborn!

CanadaMontreal Consulate Question
HI...I had my interview in Mtl in Sept. Yes, they turned away people with bags, briefcases, etc that were too large. They did hold cell phones and car keys but its still not recommended you bring these for obvious reasons. They gave you a ticket and held them. Upon exit, you handed the guard the ticket and he gave you your belongings. They do not hold large items....as, I'm sure, a safety issue. The people that were turned away, returned and were let in. Most hotels are withing walking distance so it would take you no time at all to return to fetch a paper or two.

CanadaInterview Question- Help!
If you filed an electronic 260, you will not have a 230. Bring the electronic confirmation. Everything else you need to know & need to bring is listed on the email they sent informing you of your interview date.

Hi All-

I have my interview scheduled for November 5th and am organizing all required documentation and I have a question-

I did electronic processing, so have a copy of my DS-260. I read somewhere that this is not enough for the interview, and you need to also have the DS-230 part 1 & 2. Is this true?

Is there anything else I should know before I go? Always so thankful for any tips and shared experience...

Thanks for your help-
E

CanadaApproved !!!
My Visa Application was approved yesterday (Wed Nov 21) in Montreal. I had the very attractive young lady with long braided hair interview me. Everything was complete in about 10 minutes - after having been in the consulate for approx 2 hours.

We stayed at Square Phillip, just around the corner. Very nice hotel - just over $200 with parking.

Note to others - bring originals of any and all documents submitted by you or your sponsor during any part of the process. The lady did ask for the original of one document that was not part of my Visa application or AOS, but was submitted with my sponsors original petition (I130). When I said that I did not have it with me she said 'no problem, I'll bring it up electronically'

CanadaMarrying in the US
Thanks...I definetly don't want to stay yet. I won't even be telling friends and family that we got married because our cerimony and reception is in Canada on Sept 22 / 12. It is merley a matter of convenience.
I just don't want to do it if it will jeopardize me being able to come or getting a visa...it is the same as him coming to Canada and us getting married I suppose, just the opposite side of things.

CanadaMarrying in the US
I figured I'd make this it's own topic as it's sort of separate from my other one.

So we (my fiance and I) were looking at what getting married in Ontario is going to entail...always read the fine print (ugh). To be married in Ontario, because my fiance was divorced before, we need to get a letter of opinion from a Lawyer, and then apply for the marriage license. They are only valid for 3 months and he needs to go with me with his passport and birth certificate. He is coming to see me in early June, and the the wedding is Sept 22nd so that's obviously not going to work out....it will be very expensive for the letter of opinion, time consuming, and there's not going to be an approrpiate time that he can go with me to get the marriage lisence. I can obviously go without him as long as I have his passport to file...but he kind of needs that to get back into the US.
Now we are considering getting married here first and having the reception / renewal of vows etc in Ontario.

my question is - if we get married in the US and I don't have a K1 Visa and tell the POE officer that I'm just visiting, is it considered fraud? I would be returning to Ontario and waiting until after our wedding to file, it would just save us a LOT of money and headache to be married here first.
Will it affect my ability to travel if I'm married here vs. Ontario and filing, or is it all the same in the wash?

Thanks

CanadaDid you do your medical in Toronto?
If you did yours in Toronto how did it go? Interested in wait times, questions you were asked, overall experiences etc. Fees and other requirements are all on the website so those are no brainers.

Did they ask you about drug use? Being a 21 year old Canadian girl, pot has always been around and I'd be lying if I said I never partook, but its been MONTHS since the last time, and I won't be touching any before my medical. I've heard some scary things about even admitting you've touched any drugs... mind you the differences between crack/meth/heroin/coke and pot are huge but Americans seem to regard them all on the same level.

This is the place: http://www.panelphysicians.com/

CanadaFolks from Ontario (or Toronto): Police Check Question
Hey guys, I'm preparing for my NOA2 (CR-1), which I will hopefully be getting by the end of this month.

I haven't had the time to get my police check done.. work, school.. blargh, anyway, I need to get on it asap :bonk:

Where did you guys go to have yours done? I ask because I'd like the most up-to-date information as all my search results were ancient threads.

I'm assuming in Toronto I can go to the main TPS building at Yonge & College and request it. I just have to make sure they check CPIC/Canada wide search and they know it's for a U.S. Visa application, right? How much have you guys paid for yours?

I don't think the RCMP has an office here, since when I checked their website they asked for prints to be done at a police station, we toss in some of our information then mail it off to Ottawa. No bueno.

Most importantly, how long does it take to get your results back? I had to do the really basic name search ($22) for my current job, and that took exactly a week which was good, so I'm hoping the full CPIC check isn't much longer.

Thanks everyone :)

CanadaCan we have a consolidated "What to do pre/post POE" thread?
Reading the recent thread about the GST cheques added another thing to remember. Would anyone else want to see a detailed, easy to understand stickied list of items (with any useful links to sources/screenshots/forms) which need to be taken care of? All the Canadian related loose ends. Things like details about what happens to OHIP/Health Insurance, GST cheques, bank accounts, and so on. There's probably much more I'm not aware of. If anyone else is like me, we like to have things laid out for us as a good starting point for our own research.

Just an idea to consider :star:

CanadaPolice Certificate in Canada?
I had them check my maiden name. I know that the main name they check should be the one going onto your immigration documents, which should also match your passport. She entered my name in like this: Jane Middlename Doe nee (Johnson)

I imagine you're in the clear though. I had to get a name check done for my current job and I pretty much had to talk the guy into checking my maiden name - maybe it isn't very common? We might just be products of the "better safe than sorry" VJ code of ethics :P
