I was looking at Melannie's and John's links from the other day and it looks like they're B&B's. That might work out for you Hannah....There aren't that many in Chicago.....everything is so expensive here wacko.gif I emailed a suburban park district to see about their beach. If not, then it may be my friend's back yard. but I'm still going down there to get pics taken of me and my hunny in our wedding clothes. permit or not! devil.gif

The one we rented is a B&B without the second B for breakfast. I think they put out some stuff, but nobody lives on site so staying there, they'll pretty much be on their own.

The other one is just a weekend/vacation retreat that is just around the corner from our house.

I wish I could say we found them in some special way, but they are just places I have known about for years. I did think of the one we rented when I searched "weddings in paw paw mich" and saw the name.

I would say this is all just small town stuff, you'd probably have to get out of the city a ways before you'd find places like this. As Carmen says, everything is so expensive in Chicago or any other city for that matter I would think.

I am sure it is costing someone. I have said that I have only so much funds and all and was told to not worry about it. Ok then. huh.gif I am sure they are just going to pay the fees and stuff but still it would be good to know now instead of later they need me to write a check. This being left in the dark and all is maybe even more nerve racking then being let on to the details. I do plan on having a sit down when I go back home next week and try to find out more.

We have tried to figure out what everything costs then added 20% That created the budget. Now I am trying to get everything under that cost.

Scratch that idea.

Although honey you have to admit the biggest costs to our wedding are the accommodation and the night reception you want.

Agreed the food is costing the most. more than a ceremony for one hundred and my dress combined

My case it's the venue. I can cook food and so can family. Even my fiance wants to, since he's a chef. But, finding a nice location to hold it, then they tack on additional fees for this and that, and most require that you go with their own caterer. I just need someone with a big house. That's all whistling.gif

Dunno....courthouse and then Disney World is winning so far tongue.gif

We rented a big house for everyone to stay in, plus to have a lunch reception at for a week for $1000.

http://www.innatpawpaw.com/

We also are looking at renting this for a day or two if we have too many people from overseas come.

http://www.onwillowpond.com/index.html

Perhaps you could do something similiar, have a reception at a place like this? Its much more affordable than renting a more traditional hall. My good friends paid something like $2000 for just one night for their wedding hall rental, which is out of the question for us.

My estimated budget is to keep it under $7,000, (£5,075) but that includes supplementing 1 airfare from Australia and paying for accommodation for all the international visitors.

I can't believe how the cost creeps up!

For myself, I'd just like to go to the courthouse with 2 friends, and maybe dinner out with a few more, but Melannie really wants the bigger wedding, and still, its not going to be that big in the grand scope of things. But its bad how quickly a little wedding adds up to ALOT of money.

John posted the comment about the boots. He can look at the civil dress, he can look at either of them but he said he didn't want to look at the 'big day' one. He's sweet like that.

What is a civil ceremony and please do not say anything to my fiancee about needing a seperate dress for anything?

Cause we can't give exact dates to get my family to Michigan within 90 days, they are spread all over the world. And as far as I am concerned it is too cold a time a year to make people come to Michigan for a wedding, we have decided to have a courthouse (civil ceremony) as soon as I enter the country, then we will have the works later on this year.

I never thought I would be a 2 dress girl, but these will both be special days, so I end up being lucky. But cost wise I won't spend more than $500 total, if it makes it any better.
