I have been stressin' a bit girlwerewolf2xn.gif over money for my trip, but I have left it in God's hands because I know He is MORE than capable to supply all my needs. One thing I did was send out an email to all my customers telling them I was selling all my tool inventory at HUGE discounts and the discount would progressively become even more as time went on. Well I had only made 7 sales for a total of less than $75 so I was quite disappointed. BUT today one of my collegues sent me a list of things she wants so she can resell them at big holiday shows and so far the total way over exceeds what I need for my trip and she is only 1/2 done with the inventory list, she's basically buying me out of everything!!! Now granted I am losing a whole lot of money on them as I am only getting about 1/2 of what I paid, BUT it's ok because now I don't need to worry about money while I'm gone AND I'll even have enough to file our paperwork when I get back kicking.gif GOD IS GOOD

The only down side of today is that I received notice that I failed the polygraph test I took to become a corrections officer. I didn't lie on it but I can't argue with the results. I'm disappointed because the jobs were great jobs with great pay and benefits, but again, God is good so He has something better in mind for me.

I am so happy for you. As far as the poly test goes, don't worry about it, they are not 100%, they are just a measuring stick, its nothing personal. And yes, God is mmm-mmm Good, taste and see that the Lord is Good. His ways are higher than your ways, so trust and continue to lean on him for guidance, strenghth, security and opening doors when windows are shut.

That was OUTSTANDING!

Vermont is rockin'

I especially enjoyed seeing all the different races/cultures of people all together, dancing, enjoying, and really getting into the meaning of the dances.

Why can't the WORLD be this way? Can you imagine a world where everyone celebrated each others cultures so openly and freely? I have faith and hope that we will oneday see that day.

It also looks like a workout that burns thousands of calories. I would love to join a class around here now. But I don't know if my old bones could do some of those moves. This seems more strenuous than my Tae Bo, Step Aerobics and Walk Aerobics by far!

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed the video WanTaNara.....which lady were you? smile.gif

Ah Stevi I'm so happy you enjoyed it! We are definately blessed here in Burlington, Vermont. Everybody seems to get along just fine and it makes the winters well worth it. I just wish my fiance had been able to come this summer to have a little time to adjust, have a feeling he's going to be arriving in the dead of winter! And yes, dancing like this burns a zillion calories. I always come home exhausted after class. Here is a link that lists classes by state, maybe there is something in your area.

African Dance Teachers by State

Here is another little ditty about our conference last year. In this one you can see two of our Guinean artists up close and personal and some really cute little girls with attitude!

As far as which lady I am, you'll have to come to Vermont to see! Hee hee... really, the only spot you can see my face clearly is in the first video in one of the still shots under the classes section. We're all in class in the studio and I'm wearing a brown and ivory lappa w/ an ivory top. Dark brown hair, all slicked back from sweat! kicking.gif

I've been so sad the last few weeks waiting for our AP to be over and sharing this has perked me right up, so I thank you for your interest!

Hey Lady,
I make baked/whipped sweet potatos

start with large sweet potatos, not yams
wash/rinse thoroughly
wrap in foil
bake until they get done, soft (not mushy) and start weeping
scoop out into a large mixing bowl
add butter (not margerine) 1 stick = 2 large potatos
add a couple of eye fulls of vanilla flavoring (not imitation)
add 1/2 can of pet milk (more or less)<<<<<<<(USE DESCRETION RIGHT HERE)
add 1/4 cup o brown sugar
add white sugar to make YOUR taste buds happy
LASTLY add 1 egg (small)
whip all ingredients until you get happy
put in a baking ban (appropriate size for amount)
and bake for 30 minutes @350 degrees
(top with cinnamon/powder sugar/or cool whip)
Enjoy
p.s. be careful when adding the pet milk.
not suppose to be soupy, not suppose to be battery.
SHOULD BE SOFT AND SEMI FIRM AFTER WHIPPING
(fork should be able to stand up in mixture when done)
remember, you are whipping, not mixing, puree'ing or blending.

I make that instead of making a sweet potato pie just to switch it up abit.
caution, may suddenly disappear without notice

hello WG,
if you need some shawls, lemme know. I can send you two maybe 3 (colors are white, gold and black).
I have no need for them and 2 of them never worn. as far as toiletries, I took along flushable baby wipes. I divided them nightly for the next morning and carried them in ziplocks, works just fine. also, for shirts, check out some of the "anchor" stores at the malls in the mens dept. and look for t-shirts on clearance. I found some that were 3/4 length in multiple colors and very breathable. if possible, get some leggings in addition to cargo pants for comfort. good luck on your trip.

p.s. the shawls can also be used as a sarong in use with the leggings.

QUOTE (Kanyiri @ Oct 11 2008, 04:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Yes they do look at white people like they have a lot of money, but their definition of white is different from ours. If you are African American you are still white in their eyes. We walk different from Africans. I know that sounds odd, but after a Ghanaian pointed this out to me, I started paying attention and it's true. Anyway, that's just to say they can look at anyone and know they are not from that country - even a Nigerian in Ghana in many cases.

As for the money thing, I'd say to budget about $20 a day (if you are staying with him and don't have to pay for lodging). Another thing, if you are going to a store where they barter or getting into a taxi where the fee is negotiable, sit back and watch to see what a local person pays. When you know what they paid go and barter for less. If they won't give it to you then walk away. They'll likely call you back. Many foreigners decide that they have money so they want to give more and help the seller out, but this just reinforces the view that all whites are rich (and makes it very hard on Peace Corps Volunteers who do NOT get paid more than a local teacher salary). Never take the first price they give you when you are in the market. If you trust your fiance then he can do all the bartering when you are out of sight, but I found that I could barter for less than my husband in many cases. If you really feel like you have to give more for any reason, then barter for the lowest price, agree to it, and then give extra as a favor. Or just buy more goods from them.

More than likely though, you'll be hob-nobbing around in the richer area of the country and the stores with roofs, walls, and windows do typically have set prices so they couldn't cheat you even if they wanted to.

Good luck!

Man, Kanyiri, you hit it dead on. That's what was told to me. Another thing to be cautious of is don't let him be in control of your finances. Find the exchange rates and know them well. Some african men get "proud" when their foreign SO is coming to visit and develop a "show boat" attitude. Just be wise, watchful and do not allow your punanny to do the thinking for you.
Good Luck and have fun

Drury hotel in the above link may be the closest Uno, not sure.
Type in 5860 Delmar Blvd for directions to the Nubia. It is a short taxi ride, too long to walk.
Or stay at the airport Drury and take the metro from the airport to Delmar Blvd and walk or call a cab from there. I would not advice to walk back when it is dark by yourself, even though the station is in walking distance.

Hope that helped.

Room sharing will cut down on the cost for those who don't want to spend too much. Some may have airline credit cards that have partner hotels with good discounts. I would prefer everyone google and do their own reservations, preference of hotels and room sharing.

I have a 2 guest peeps capacity and that has been filled as of yesterday, there is no more room at the inn. cray5ol.gif I am remodeling, otherwise there would be room for three, but everything is stuffed in every guest room right now. Newbie that has not yet posted may have room, not sure.

y'all forgive me for my earlier post. that was my carnality speaking.
I got an email from that man (not going to post his lava spewing ignorant statements).
but this was/is my email response to him.

everytime you open your mouth, you keep proving yourself to be a... (fill in the blank!!)
you have the audacity to judge me, and you are not in a position to do so.
you continue to worry about yasmin and not worry about XXXX.
you are full of questions, why dont you ask yourself,
"why did xxxxx fail as a husband ??"
"why wont xxxxx pay for a divorce from Yasmin since she is such a horrid person??"
"why does xxxxx lie about being in communication with Yasmin??"
"why does xxxxx continue to think about Yasmin??"
"why can't xxxxx tell the truth to those that ask about Yasmin??"
thanks to jehovah-tsidkenu and jehovah-hashopet,
Yasmin doesn't worry about xxxxx' judgements against her.
as long as Yasmin is right with God, she doesn't have to be right or perfect in xxxxx' eyesight.
Jesus died on the cross and paid it all for YASMIN'S sins and that includes my marrying you.
Yasmin NEVER STATED that Yasmin WAS PERFECT OR A GOD.
that is the ignorance that runs through xxxxx' mind and then proceeds from xxxxx mouth.
and since when did going to church faithfully make one a "christian??"
show Yasmin in the bible where it says any of what xxxxx continues to rant about.
Then show Yasmin where it says (in the bible) "xxxxx, you have the right to judge, insult and dehumanize Yasmin!!
I want the book name, chapter and verse number!!!
if anything, xxxxx' actions and heart conditioning make him a hypocrite (thats in the bible).
you go more frequently than I do and still know nothing about God or his ordinances.
If you did, you would not continue with your foolish pride, judgemental attitude, hatred, ignorance, lack of humbleness, and indescretions towards me.
God judges the actions and conditions of the heart.
Regardless of what xxxxx says or does,
jehovah-hoshe'ah has saved Yasmin and sanctified Yasmin.
Yasmin is always victorious for I am a child of God most high.
Yasmin doesn't have to watch her back, because jehovah-jireh always provides,
jehova-rapha has healed all of Yasmin's sorrows,
jehovah-ra-ah is Yasmins shepherd,
jehovah-shammad is always present and makes sure that Yasmin is not lonely,
jehovah-shalom makes sure that Yasmin has perfect peace,
jehovah-gador has already fought Yasmin's battles and in closing just know that Yasmin serves
jehovah-adonai my creator, jehovah-el elyon God most high.
and incase xxxxx did not get the memo, there is only one Alpha and Omega and xxxxx and his judgements concerning Yasmin are not sitting at Jehovah-Gods right hand.

p.s. I am never pretending to be something that I am not, concerning your "bishop" statement. you are the self proclaimed
"wisdom man, oracle, mega star, super star."
IF YOU ARE REFERING TO MY SIGNATURE STATEMENT THAT APPEARS AFTER THE 2 DASHES, THAT IS AN AUTOMATED RESPONSE. I DO NOT HAVE TO TYPE THAT IN. I CHOSE THAT STATEMENT WHEN SETTING UP MY ACCOUNT AND THEN PRESET IT.
it is included with each and every email I send out, even blank emails.
p.p.s. I don't care about you being alive or kicking. You serve me better being dead that way a divorce is not necessary.
so good riddance.

Hey ya'll!

We_Destiny, I couldn't stay up as long as you. Sorry for the restlessness..........I hope you settle in soon.

You are a goddess for doing all of that. I'm so through with "wedding" stuff, I'm thinking about a BBQ in the back yard! I'm serious! I can't wait to see everyone in your wedding party, I just know it's going to be beautiful!

Uno, by the time Zee and I get to Ghana, poor Chris will be in hiding wondering if all the VJ ladies are on their way across the ocean! As my girlfriend says, Don't make me go Brooklyn on you!

For sure ph34r.gif

OMG, I want this wedding to be done with already. So many things to do with so little time. I have people half way around the world planning things, buying things, coordinating things. This is not good for my health.

Someone wakke me up when it is all over.

Hey y'all, good tuesday morning star_smile.gif .

As always thanks UNO your words and humor always brightens VJ.

Girl you being a recent graduate you know how taking these bleeping classes will keep you busy. I am always snooping around lurking for updates of everyone bizness.

I really put toooo much on my plate and should have reduced my course load. But as they say "a hard head makes a soft behind", and I am taking a big time whooping. But only one more semester to go and I get some new initials behind my name biggrin.gif ; well atleast on my business cards good.gif .

You know I am a fellow Chicago girl and I know how to give a real beat down... so, you just point me in his direction.
I will get one of those minature White Sox bats (uuu, kno!! headbonk.gif ) and give him a whooping he won't soon forget (shouting this is for UNO all the way through the beating).(ROFLMMFAO)
I will give him an old fashioned "Pumpkin Head" (classic!!!)West Side style.
You just point me in the right direction good.gif !!!!!

That wedding seems like a dream come true....congratulations on that. I am looking forward to seeing pictures too. My guy is from Nigeria, but I laughed when I read about the hot fanta and malta, and especially the cola nuts. I experienced them ALL on a regular basis during my trips. Oh how I wanted the soft drinks to be really COLD. But I loved it all. God bless you during your current trip and I pray that you have a spectacular wedding event.

Thanks Stevi1123 I am trying to hang in there and not go crazy over this event, now...as in last week... my husband is really getting excited about the wedding....so... he has recently begun to help with some of the preparations (its about time yes.gif ).

just wanted to add this prayer/poem.

Marriage Takes Three

I once thought marriage took
Just two to make a go,

But now I am convinced
It takes the Lord also.
And not one marriage fails
Where Christ is asked to enter,

As lovers come together
With Jesus at the center.
But marriage seldom thrives,
And homes are incomplete,

Till He is welcomed there
To help avoid defeat.

In homes where Christ is first,
It's obvious to see,
Those unions really work,

For marriage still takes three.
