Quick question as I cannot seem to find an answer and thought I would rely on those who have gone before. biggrin.gif

We have looked at the list of common questions for the K-1 benifiary, but could not find anything for the K-2. What kind of questions (if any) will be asked of her?

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusPolice Certificate for Embassy Interview in Kiev
QUOTE (Zip and Barbara @ Sep 27 2009, 10:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Greetings all.

We have all of our ducks in a row thus far. We are curious about where to obtain a police certificate and how long that may take to get. Can my fiance go to the closest major city to obtain the certificate or does she have to get one from each region she's lived in? For example, if she grew up in Sumy Region and has lived in Dnepropetrovsk Region.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers!

They should be able to get this information at oblast center in Departments of Information Technology at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It took my fiancee about 1 week to get the certificate.

Wow, thanks for all the information. I guess there are advantages to living in farm country and Oksana had concerns about fresh vegetables and their availability. I hope I have calmed her fears.

I will tell you all that after Gary's constant reminder of how to ensure Oksana is a true Ukraine woman, I am beginning to doubt that I am a true American Man. I rather enjoyed the stinky fish, and my fridge is not complete without a container of sour cream and mayo. biggrin.gif I just can't walk the streets there smile.gif

Can you two Skype? For Alla and I, especially in the beginning, our phone conversations were brutal. When we started Skyping, our vocal conversations as well as her English really took off.
Now we hardly email and call each other at least three or more times a day and every week have a few hours-long Skype sessions.

good.gif

I agree that if you can both use Skype on a regular basis it will help alot. When Oksana and I started talking our first few conversations were horrible as we had difficulty understanding each other, but using the call and instant message features has improved her English 200%. Plus it has the added bonus of being able to archive your message sessions

Also Lovey/Dovey is well and good in your conversations, but make sure that is not all you talk about. Talk about your everyday things and any problems that is going on in each other's lives. It makes for a better relationship than repeated romantic words.

secret7vf.gif Also if the consulate reads your message logs at the interview it will show a stronger relationship

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusKiev Interview Review
Oksana, says that they arrived early at the gate and entered easily for her 9 am interview. They took her documents and finger printed her and her daughter. They then sat until 11:30, but the time passed quickly as they were speaking with other fiancee's there including JimnLena's Lena.

They then were called up and interviewed by a friendly woman who spoke to them in Russian. The only questions they were asked was what state and city I live, and when Oksana told her Nebraska, the woman smiled and asked her if she knew it got cold here. She also asked if Oksana spoke english and Oksana told her that she was learning but was not fluent.

The woman then smiled and told them that they had passed and gave them their pink slips. She says it was a very quick and painless process other than the waiting.

I just tell people the cure to swine flu is to be immunized with a daily dose of salo in the morning. good.gif

That is a completely different swine affliction biggrin.gif

I originally posted this because I was a bit surprised that any politician in this day and age could be so transparent as Tymoshenko, and I was wondering the thoughts of our fellow RUBs who have more experience with the Ukraine government than I.

Personally I think that no matter who wins the Presidential elections, it will be the Ukraine people who lose. Tymoshenko is too much of an opportunist and Yanukovych is ready to get in bed with Moscow.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusUkraine Swine Flu Epidemic
KIEV, Ukraine – Urging its citizens not to panic, Ukraine on Monday closed the nation's schools for a week to avoid the spread of swine flu and suggested that nightclubs, cinemas and food markets in the west also shut down.

The World Health Organization said Monday there was no evidence that Ukraine had a bad outbreak of swine flu but at the government's request it had sent a health team there to help the country cope.

"But this is not an indication that the situation is severe," said WHO spokeswoman Liuba Negru. "The information we have gotten (from the government), we have to double-check it and make sure it is real, evidence-based information."

Ukraine's Health Ministry said Monday that 70 people in the nation of 40 million have died of flu, but did not say how many of those deaths were related to swine flu. Worldwide, outbreaks of regular seasonal flu claim 50,000 lives each year.

Nevertheless, all schools have been closed for a week across Ukraine, even in the capital, Kiev, where there have been no confirmed cases of swine flu.

In western Ukraine, local authorities advised people to travel only when necessary, a Health Ministry spokeswoman said.

All outdoor markets have been closed in the western region of Lviv, where the governor also urged cinemas, cafes, nightclubs and theaters to shut down until further notice.

Some observers, including the speaker of the parliament, Vladimir Litvin, suggested that these measures are the result of political wrangling ahead of the country's presidential election in January. The pivotal vote could overturn the 2004 Orange Revolution that swept a pro-Western government to power.

"We are seeing a political competition to see who will be the first to lead this process (of fighting swine flu)," Litvin said, according to the UNIAN news agency.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko met a Swiss shipment of anti-viral drugs at the Kiev airport on Monday.

"The government has declared the situation an epidemic, but there is absolutely no need to panic," she declared on national television.

Her main rival, President Viktor Yushchenko, said thousands of people were infected and called for assistance from NATO, the European Commission, the United States, Russia and other countries.

Konstantin Bondarenko, director of the Gorshenin Institute, a political consultancy, said that Tymoshenko has the most to lose from public sentiment over the outbreak, as state health officials answer to her.

"Right now all the candidates are weighing their political options, looking around for a theme, and this is a very hot topic right now. The panic is there, and they are acting on it," Bondarenko said.

After receiving the shipment of 300,000 doses of Tamiflu at Kiev's Borispol airport, Tymoshenko said her government plans to increase its hoard of the drug by another 300,000 to 950,000 doses.

"This is the supply that will reliably protect Ukraine," Tymoshenko said, ITAR-Tass news agency reported.

Viktor Yanukovych, the Regions' Party candidate for the presidency, has not commented on the swine flu uproar. Yanukovych, who was beaten in 2005 by Yushchenko, is leading in the polls with a platform that emphasizes closer ties with Russia.

During the past five years of Yushchenko's presidency, relations with Moscow reached historic lows. Yushchenko's approval ratings at home have fallen to single digits in the wake of the economic crisis, which hit Ukraine hard, and years of political gridlock with Tymoshenko.

I was very happy to find that about five seconds after we were married, she went from not caring much about money at all to carefully questioning every expense. Well, most expenses. Not much gets past her, and she is MUCH more frugal than me generally. She will absolutely pay top dollar for organic or natural stuff though, and I find using organic shampoo etc. isn't at all painful smile.gif

Yes, there seems to be a duality of man here somewhere. On the one hand, alla goes to Russia/Ukraine this summer and takes $300. A month later she has taken no other money with her ATM card? I ask about this and she says she "has enough" But the 3 days before coming back she goes crazy? She will be very careful about spedning, very frugal, yes, but then will suddenly and without warning, splurge all of a sudden. And she would not give back any cash if I told her it was for the Mall. laughing.gif But she wouldn't buy anything that wasn't 40% off (minimum) It is a quandry.

Wow. Hearing all these stories has made me realize how unique my fiancee is. I always knew she was special, I just never realized how special. She has no problem with having open windows or having a fan running to circulate air in a room. Has no problem with drinking cold drinks.

Though she did make the bed each morning at the hotel we stayed at, but that is something I had no problem with as I do it myself (force of habit) and my shoes are normally off as soon as I enter the apartment.

I don't think there will be a problem with washing and drying clothes in the tub, as she became very excited when she learned that we had a Washer and Dryer in the apartment here.

The only concern I have is using the balcony as a fridge. Hopefully that will not be too hard of a battle, though with 5 people in the apartment (one of them a teenage boy) I doubt there will be much leftovers after a meal biggrin.gif

Dave CAUTION

She could be one of those American women posing as Ukrainian to catch men. WARNING The tolerance of open windows is a red flag. Before you go any further I need you to do two tests

1. Give her 4" spike heels and if she falls off them while walking on cobblestones...she is an imposter! She should be able to do this for a least 3km if she is a true Ukrainian PASSED

2. When she is sleeping...wake her up and throw $300 on the bed. Tell her you are taking her to the mall. If she immediately gets up and goes to the make up table and takes 2 hours to get ready...She is Ukrainian. If she jumps up and is ready to go in her pajamas...she is an American imposter. Be careful PASSED

Fortunately or not, women just do not understand the way our minds work. Clothes are like wrapping on a present to us. No matter how nice, beautiful, colorful, or exciting the wrapper, and no matter how many nice things we say about it, the whole time we are just thinking about ripping it off and opening the box. Even if we have seen the contents of the box a million times. We're just hard-wired that way.

Hmmm, comments about "Mail Order Brides", "Fat, Old, Bald Men", and "Pie and Guns". Also a complete tangent from the original topic. It must be the RUB Forum biggrin.gif

Personally I also have nothing against American women and actually was looking for someone close to home, but most of the women my age were running to the woods as soon as the B & D words came up. Bankruptcy and Divorce. So I cast my net world wide and found the woman for me.

As for the term Mail Order Bride, whenever I hear someone use this term in regards to Oksana I am quick to tell them that she is a Made to Order Bride. And so that no one gets their back up from this comment, when I say this statement I mean that she is the perfect spouse for me. Russia, Ukraine and BelarusGot my ticket!
QUOTE (jake61 @ Oct 29 2009, 03:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It is set in stone now! I have talked to the travel agent and paid for my ticket. The total is 1,153 dollars round trip to Odessa. I paid a little more because I do not have more than 2 hours between flights (layovers) coming or going. And I am flying into Odessa where she wanted to meet me. It was only 50 dollars more for Odessa rather than Kiev. It is United out of Iowa and LOT to Poland and Odessa.

I am staying one month. Leaving Nov 7 and returning Dec 6. I have heard that the high taxes and fees are due to health insurance coverage, etc if anything happens to you in the country. Can anyone verify that?

I started off this ticket search with a local agent. I booked with a travel agent because I wanted to keep the busness local. The cheapest airfare was with cheaptickets.com. But it seems they bait and switch. last night I was once again playing with the flight search and noticed the difference between days. So I kept playing with it until I got the best fare. It was 963 dollars round trip to Odessa on the cheapest days. Then I called the agent back and she returned my call this afternoon with 100 dollars higher. I decided to go with cheaptickets.com but when I went to order the ticket I got that it was no longer available. It suggested another flight at 1,173 dollars. So I went back and started over and it gave me 1,483 dollars. It sounded like a scam so I ate another 100 dollars and booked with the agent. It is the exact same flights I was going to take on cheaptickets.com.

So much for online airline tickets.

Jake enjoy your trip. The taxes have nothing to do with insurance while you are there. If you check the embassy website they recommend getting traveler insurance for medical emergencies as the Ukraine hospitals are a cash and carry system and will only provide medical care. Food is your responsibility. The travelers insurance will also cover any cost if you need a medical evacuation. I used AIG when I went, but I am sure that there other's out there that can provide this service.

Cheaptickets is a strange beast and depending on the day and time you are looking for tickets will determine what they offer. Generally those rules are given by the carrier to the discount houses like Cheaptickets and Orbitz. Just an FYI for your future travels.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusMarriage after arrival on k-1

Okay, We live in Dallas Texas and my fiance has arrived in the US ( 3 weeks now ) do we need to apply for a SSN for her and her son to get married? I have read the site and if we apply first then get married and then turn around and and apply again with the name change. Is this correct?

Anyone know?

Chris,

You don't need the SSN to get married but it does come in handy when trying to add her name to Bank accounts and utilities. With her being here 3 weeks, you should still apply for her SSN so that you already have it when she gets her EAD from the AOS. Once her I-94 expires you will have to wait for that before she can start working.

Also some ESL programs require a valid SSN before you can register for the classes.

You cannot apply for a SSN for your son until he gets an EAD (If old enough to work) or his Green card, though you can apply for a Tax ID from the IRS for filing purposes.
