A phone call to the NVC has verified that our petition was received by them yesterday, December 12. Just an FYI to those who like to keep track of such things! Good luck to all of those still waiting, and congratulations to everyone whose petition has already been processed by the NVC.

Strange we where approved around the same dates, but I just called them and was told not received yet blink.gif

I've given up trying to figure out exactly how the NVC 'manages' our petitions and information about them. I'm pretty sure dead chickens and tea leaves are involved (no offense to chickens, alive or dead, or to tea leaves for that matter). I called them on Tuesday and they had no information, and then Natasha received an email saying they had it so I called and they said they got it on Wednesday. It all seems so random as far as timing and sequencing goes. I'm sure yours will turn up any day - of course, whether or not the NVC will actually know they have it is an entirely separate matter!

every day? or, like, even every hour or so? no no no; who'd do a thing like that? *nervous laugh*

That's why I invented the USCIS drinking game. Here's how it works: Every time you check your status, take a shot. If you get a touch, take 2 shots. If you are approved, take 3 shots, declare yourself the winner, and go to bed. Wait until tomorrow to tell us all you are approved so that you're not too inebriated to scream and shout in gigantic purple letters. =P

Some observations based on my own experiences: The more I check my status, the longer it takes me to check my status. Eventually I am physically unable to check my status. Problem solved!!

Why, that's sheer brilliance, Mox! Simple, effective.

I blame it on frozen, concentrated orange juice, because that makes about as much sense and the policies.

Nick has been really ill for the last few days with flu like stuff...just had email from his mammy, he's developed pnuemonia and is really sick. All I want is to be there with him and for him but I can't be and it's killing me.

It's been kinda cold in Nebraska the last few days, and getting colder and snowy. I sure hope Nick gets to feeling better soon.

That's great news Chris! Doesn't it feel amazing knowing that we are all gradually getting there albeit some quicker than others!? biggrin.gif

You are right. Again, I wasn't thinking.

I think it's b/c Scott STILL has our freaking packet 3 and I am going to kill him. Jeraly, you said something about it seemed like Jeremy didn't care b/c he wouldn't make a call... I feel the same way. He's all "I'll get to it when I get to it".

I think I am going to lose my mind. Seriously. How do I keep from exploding at him? sad.gif

Yeah - it is really really annoying - I mean we aren't in a rush really because I am not moving until the end of June but I still want to get the process over with and I still want to know what is happening with my case even if I can't do anything about it - it makes me feel a little moer in control and a little more like I know what to expect and when. This whole process is so stressful because of the life changes we have to go through that any glimmer of control is better than nothing!! *hugs*

Yea, I signed up for email alerts too. I was surprised when that apparently means ALL tracking changes, including those in the past. I immediately got 10 or 12 text messages to my phone (as well as emails - you can do both) for all the past history on the package.

Oh no, not MONKEY WHATNOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm - any chance you could have a look for me? The tracking number I found is 8187283882 but I can't find e-mail alerts *anywhere*. I am opting for the "refreshing the page every 30 seconds" option laughing.gif it's moved a bit - it's in Ohio at the moment - woohoo!! This is so exciting!!

I plan on us arriving in San Francisco and hanging out a few days then maybe to the Redwood Forest then a big road trip to Zion & the Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon and Monument Valley on the way to plain ole' Kansas City.

I want her to really get a sense of America. We'll stay off the Interstates and just take Hwy's and back country roads all the way back.

I wanted to drive up the coast from San Fran to Portland & Seattle but that would add better than a week to the whole thing.

Oh that is an amazing trip!! I've done most of that but in two parts - up the 5 and down the 101/1 and then on the 17 to Vegas, through Zion, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Sedona etc smile.gif If you want to take back roads, once you have headed down from SF (presuming you will drive back through there following your trip to the Redwood Forest) head just south of Monterey I think it is and you will see a road (can't remember if it is off the 101 or the 1) called the G16 - it took us a couple hours to drive it as it is through the mountains - it is very beautiful but at times it is little more than a single carriageway track biggrin.gif But you drive through a place called Toquerville (as I recall) and through an oil field as well which is pretty cool - it takes you back to the 5 and I thought it was a short cut laughing.gif It's not but it is very pretty smile.gif

weeelllll it's offical....I have lost the plot. I have been sorting out interview stuff, yes I know I have over 3 weeks but i'm obsessive. I have filled file, emptied file, filled file, emptied file and at least twice more. I can't stop crying as I've convinced myself we are going to be declined due to finances or that I'll forget something really important.

Debz, we all get stressed out over this long and difficult road we have decided to travel, but if you have done your research and collected all the forms and you guys meet the minimum financial guidelines that are clearly documented, then you have done all that you can do. We just got our interview date on Friday (for February 26) so I've only just started the frantic final push, but I understand at least a little of what you feel. Give me another 3 weeks until I'm 3 weeks before the interview, and I'm sure I'll be a total basket case seeking your advice and the help and support of everyone here on VJ. It's what we DO here, particularly here on the July filers thread. Vent, rant, cry, stress - it's ok, we all understand (and most of us experience the exact same range of emotions you do).

I've always felt a special connection to you because you'll wind up here in Nebraska, where I live and where very few of us (I think) attempt what you do. It's a stupid, tenuous thing and completely artificial and one-sided, perhaps, but still it's there. If there's anything I can do to help you or your groom, just let me know.

Yikes, I don't think I'd be too concerned yet (12/4-now is only 2 weeks and 1 day). I thought CSC was filling crates & waiting to send them or something. Has that changed now? I hope so, that sure was crummy of them.

(Ok, I lie I'd be pacing and calling them too. But congressman may be a bit premature at this point.
Save their time for those who really need it.)

Yes, it has changed...now it is a shipping container, once filled they load it onto a converted steamship that is powered by four chinchilla and a billy goat. The captain is a retired circus chimpanzee and the navigator is a one eyed pigeon. They hold a world records from CSC to The Cape of Good Hope, but this fact has only even been recognized by the last remaining Dodo and we could not locate him to confirm or comment.

Sorry....just tired.

Actually, I don't think this is quite accurate. I'm pretty sure the pigeon has astigmatism.

I can't believe I am this happy over a stupid touch - I am shaking and in tears but then it is 1.30am - I literally checked the site as an aside while I wait for the flight tracker to stop saying scheduled and to say in air so I can get the map up - there was nothing at about 3 minutes past 5 (PST) but I thought I would check again anyway, as I do (obsessed) and the date changed and I think my heart might have just sat in my mouth for a full minute before it sank in!!

Like I said - even if it is an RFE, at least we know it is being worked on biggrin.gif And the one thing I kinda wanted was to pick Jeremy up tomorrow with an NOA2 - even if it is just a touch then that is something - what great news to bring him!! biggrin.gif

Hey! Looks like everyone seems to be getting good news - I just really hope that those who filed before me get their news or some kind of movement soon - it seems unfair that I should hear something and they don't. Now I feel guilty tongue.gif It's easier to be nice to people when you are in the same situation - now I will just sound patronising... Grr - anyone want my touch?! laughing.gif

Frustrating thing is they updated it just as it was time to go home - which means I bet I don't hear anything at the 2am updates!!! Grr!!!!!!!!! But ohhh - we should have something while Jeremy is here one way or another smile.gif

Oh poo - and now the flight tracker is saying call airline instead of scheduled - just what I don't want!!! Now I have to find another one before I can settle down and I am so excited I don't even know if that will happen!!!

Jeraly! I'm going to send all the positive energy I can your way, so that this TOUCH becomes an APPROVAL!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in agony. Went into work, got handed £100 and got told...."go get xmas tree decorations". We just got a new 8ft xmas tree yesterday. Now my office is at the bottom of the biggest hill in glasgow.....the shops are at the top. So up I go, buy enough lights, baubles and sparkly things for an 8ft tree (thats alot of shiny things). Almost roll back down hill to work. Then the guy that was supposed to be helping build the 8ft tree and decorate...well his job has been on the line for ages due to his bone idleness.....WELL they chose this morning to fire him and I had to do it all myself. I've not done that much physical labour in ages.....i've got muscles aching where I didn't know I had any!!!!

hang in there Jeraly!
the box with your petition will be on somebody's desk very soon! didn't they start approving july-filers like crazy?
it is all for the best and you will be the one using up all the dancing smileys very soon! smile.gif

what really gets me is the fact that all my friends and relatives are asking me on a daily basis if i have my visa yet. you just really can't explain the process and all its difficulties to somebody who doesn't experience it.

plus, i start to feel anxious because the visa will be there anytime within the next 3 months. meaning i will leave my family and friends within the next 3 months. i am waiting and praying for the day when i can be with Eric for the rest of our lives, but leaving my family and friends on a different continent really brings the tears to my eyes.

i know that i will get along well in the US and we already lived together in the last year, so i'm not scared of that. but i am scared of homesickness.
can anybody relate to that or am i crazy?

My Natasha feels exactly as you do. It's exciting to be starting a new life with someone you love, but she has to give up so much too. Her parents, her aunts and uncles and cousins and nieces and nephews, and ESPECIALLY her sister with whom she is very very close. It's a scary leap into the great unknown, and as the other half all I can do is prepare to make the transition as comfortable and reassuring as possible, by providing all the love and care and support (physical and emotional) that I possibly can.

Good luck!

In any case, at least in my experieince this is a very simple process. Whenever I need something notarized, I run down to the local bank branch and they do it for me in a few minutes at zero cost.

Too bad they don't issue visas also. laughing.gif

Definatly alot of UK-ers here. Seem to be a fair number of Nebraskans too. I feel a nebraska meet up in Omaha sometime coming on. I'm actually going to be starting my american life in Grand Island. I'm a country lass, born and brought up in the kind of villages where everyone knows everyone. I lived in Glasgow city for 2 years and hated it. Not a big fan of the city at all so Grand Island kinda suits me. ALOT bigger than I'm used too but still laid back and surrounded by fields. We are considering heading to Lincoln or Omaha in the future though as bigger scope for me running my own business as I have done here in scotland.

I'm really hoping some of us UK-ers get same day interviews! We can go for a wee drink afterwards.

If a meeting ever gets going for Omaha, you can count me in!

StillthePrettiest,

I actually started tracking them myself on paper. I know that sounds boring and time consuming but actually it only takes a few minutes a day. I wanted to do this to help pass the time till my approval date. smile.gif

Debz,

If you will fly between Omaha and UK, you should try Northwest connecting in Minneapolis. Or United to either Chicago or Denver. Lucky you will live right in the middle of our country so you can go explore the whole thing. Omaha is getting nice too, still cheap to buy a nice home, friendly people, a good place to raise a family, you should be excited!

Being a resident of Omaha, I'll have to agree with your assessment of Omaha! It is nice.

Here's a random question which will probably add to the wedding discussion: How many of you ladies will change your last names when you marry? I'm still debating whether to do this since I'm still in school. Everything is under my maiden name, and when I take the boards (in 2-years Lord willing) it'll have the info my school gives them, therefore my Pharmacy Lic will have my maiden name and so will my PharmD degree.. My fiance says that I don't have to change it because he knows it will be a hassle changing everything.

I like his last name but at the same time i keep thinking: "i will graduate as a Dr and that is something that I accomplished, me, no one else"......it sounds selfish i know but think of it.......I've sacrficed approx 6 yrs of my life so I can get a degree, don't i owe it to myself to use my last name with a prefix before it? and my fiance also understands my point of view, which is why he says there's no need to change my last name b/c he knows it's a huge accomplishment in my life (what can i say he understands me at all levels smile.gif) but at the same time, i want to show that I'm happy and proud that I'm married to him by using his last name. (so you all see my dilemma here) wacko.gif

Anyways I can always hyphenate it but my name will be too dang long, my first name is 8 letters, my last name is 10 and I use my middle initial, imagine adding 8 more letters to my last name!!

So the qestion still stands: how many of you will change or hyphenate your last names? huh.gif

My Natasha plans on taking my name. I told her the decision was hers, but as she still has the name of her former husband (a name she does not like) she was very quick to say she would be pleased to have my name!

I wrote a letter to my angel tonight, as we wait for NOA-2. I think all of us waiting for NOA-2 feel the slow and torturous passage of time as we are (most of us, anyway) apart from those we love. For the most part, I like how this letter came out, so I thought I'd post it here for whatever it is worth. As Spider Robinson (I believe) said, a pain shared is a pain lessened.

I'll Not Count The Days

We have been apart for many months. There's no denying that. But I'll not count the days since last I held you in my arms. Counting the days is like counting the grains of sand on the beach - it has no purpose since the tide will come and rearrange them. And I'll not count the days since last I felt your lips against mine. The days which have passed cannot erase from my memory the soft feel of you against me, my angel. And I'll not count the days since last my face was pressed against your neck, and I could smell your sweet fragrance. When I close my eyes I can still smell your aroma, for the passing of time cannot dull my remembered senses of you.

We will not be together again for some more months, that is also true. But I'll not count the days up until we can yet be together again. Should I add up the kisses we shared together during our all too brief 23 days together? The number of kisses that we shared during that time will always outnumber the days we are apart, no matter how many they may number. Counting the days we are apart is equivalent to torturing myself, and there is nothing torturous about the feel of your love in my heart.

Soon we will know the date of our next meeting. On the day we know this date, we will know precisely how much longer our separation will last. I will have much to do to prepare for your arrival here, and for the arrival of my little angel Vika. There will be so much to do, and all the days we have been apart will then seem too few, and it will be as if I do not have time to make all the preparations I would like. But no matter how many preparations I complete, and no matter how many preparations I do not complete, none of it will matter. Because the day will come when we are at last again together, and whatever tasks lay before us will lay before us both, and we will accomplish them together.

On the day we are again together, I will begin my counting. I will count the seconds that pass in our first minute together, so that I never forget how lucky I am to be with you again. I will count the minutes that we share during our first hour together, so that I do not waste any of this precious time. I will count the hours which see you by my side during our first day together, during all those moments when I pull you close to me and kiss you, just because I can. I will count the days we spend together in Russia during our first week, as we wear our rings for the first time - we will wear them on our right hands while we are in Russia, and then on our left when we are in the USA so that we honor the customs of both our countries. I will count the weeks in the first month we are together here in our home in Omaha, and I know that they will pass so quickly and blissfully for us. I will count the months we spend together during our first year as husband and wife, as we experience all of the mundane things of normal life - going to the store, preparing meals, seeing the children off to school, cleaning up the house. But what I will treasure most of all, I think, is counting the years that pass as we watch the seasons change in our new and shared world. Together always, in love always, we will grow old together. Our hair will grow gray, our eyes may grow dim, and our steps may grow less strong, but always will our love burn youthful and bright because we will be together and we will always have the other to love and to love us in return.

And as I count these seconds, and minutes, and hours, and days, and weeks, and months, and years, with my sweet angel Natasha always near to me, I will treasure my life and thank the God above that he thought me worthy to receive such a wonderful gift as I have in you, Natasha.

So I'll not count the days that we must be apart, and instead I will look to the countless days of our future together, and I will save my counting for them.

I love you, now and always.

Kevin

I have no idea where I actually entered the following originally, but here in this thread was my intention!

I don't know if anyone would be interested in the information, but I've been working on some tools to 'mine' the data on the USCIS site. It's all public information, after all, and I've been curious how many petitions get filed each day, and how many are I129F petitions.

I have the code all done but the USCIS has thrown me a curve - they have monitors in place that check how many requests are coming from a given IP (or possibly gateway), and they 'shut off' access for 2 or 3 days if you exceed whatever the limit is. There is a flood check for a short duration, and after I slowed my requests down (one lookup every 15 seconds) I hit a longer duration monitor that also shut me down.

So my next try will be to slow my code WAY down (maybe one lookup every 2 to 5 minutes), but I have already determined that the average number of petitions received by the California Service Center is around 4000 (or more) (my code has a binary search component that can determine the number of petitions in about 14 searches). To determine which are I129F petitions (or any other type) I have to query each individual petition. Once I know which ones are I129F, I log the numbers so that I can watch for status changes on subsequent days.

So if I query 1 case every 2 minutes, it will take 8000 minutes, or 134 hours, or nearly 6 full days. And that's just to locate the receipt numbers for a single day. To scan all of July (our filing month) will take about 117 days (21 fiscal days in July, or so)! I would eventually like to give this code to VJ so they don't have to rely on users to input timelines, and they would gain access to a ton of more petitions. I have already contacted VJ and they are interested - if I can get it to work.

Why do all of this? Because I can, and I want to. It's an interesting technical challenge. Would there be anyone out there reading this who would like to donate some of their computer time? I could provide you the code (it's written in python) along with the instructions, and we could split up the days in July of 2007, in order to locate the petitions we're interested in.

I've also requested of the USCIS that this data be made available in an off-line form so I don't have to query it online so slowly. If they agree, and I'm not holding my breath, then this would all be moot, but I thought I'd see if there is any interest, other than my own!

The internet is full of information, some good and some bad, but for me personally this site has been the most helpful. The visa process is very stressful for us all, I think, and full of so many unknowns and intangibles, that it is WONDERFUL to have a place to go where you can find guides and FAQs and forums chock full of information from people who have been through the very process we are now experiencing. Simply a tremendous resource!

So, now that we July filers are waiting around for NOA-2, how exactly do we resist the overwhelming urge to check our petition status online several times per day, even though we have signed up for email notification and haven't received any email? It's a completely illogical thing to do, and yet it is also completely compulsive. Or am I the only one???

I have my entire petition posted on my site, with all the sensitive information redacted of course. Not only does it keep me busy but I like feeling 'connected' to the entire process! It was also a good way for Natasha to be able to see everything. It's difficult to believe you have not made an error someplace, though, no matter how much research (like here on VJ) you've done and how many pieces of evidence to prove your relationship you provide. At some point we all just believe we have done all that we can, and checked over all the information enough, and send in our petition and hope we receive no RFEs!
