I am trying to make sure I head my letters correctly....now am wondering if the Nebraska Service Center is the one I'm going through? I'm in Nebraska- however, from everything I'm looking up, they're not processing the I29-F anymore? Based on my state, I thought that's where it was headed? Any help is appreciated!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust sent in my 1-129 F to Vermont

Thanks to all for the well wishes. I paid...$695 for the full boat and I believe it's well worth it. It took us about 6 weeks to submit our petition once I hired Fiancee Visa Services. I would also say, that I had talked to them late last year and they gave me some critical free advice on how to proceed at that point. They also have been doing this for so long, that they really know how to construct a compelling petition. I had called and talked to many attorneys and agencies before deciding on Fiancee Visa Services. I had also done a BBB check on them and they had Zero complaints, unlike some others.
I don't want to sound like a commercial for them, I just hope others find this information helpful.
Regards,
Bill

I 100% understand hiring someone if you have the resources to do so. Even if just for a little more peace of mind (if you don't feel confident in the process) while you wait for months on end. I've done a lot of research on hiring someone & it seems like you got a pretty good deal (relatively speaking) and you feel confident. Good news!

Haha, that's what I've noticed too after reading through this website so much...I'll be looking out for the check to be cashed & receiving the NOA1- I did include one of the forms that ask for text/email updates so we'll see when that happens. Thanks for all the support! And now....we wait....

Ah ok- thanks guys! When I say "writing out the date," I mean like, "September 10th, 2010." What I wrote was 9/10/10. The instructions said to be sure & write it out, and I missed that.

We are very excited to have FINALLY filed my petition yesterday, after waiting 6 weeks for my birth certificate to show up. However, after reading through the check instructions, I'm getting a little nervous. I didn't write out the date on the check, I just wrote 9/9/10. Is this going to be a problem? My biggest fear is reading through these threads & finding little things I did wrong, only to worry for the next few months. Ah!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresvisiting during k1 process
Hi...I'm new to this website but have found it extremely helpful so thanks to all!

I have a couple of things to add/ask, which might be stupid questions, but not sure...

1- With regards to visiting after filing the K1 petition; couldn't you easily book a two-week roundtrip ticket, have your itinerary with you & then change your flight back through the airline while you're visiting, thus extending your visit? As long as it's within the 3 months you're alloted, wouldn't it reduce extraneous questioning at your POE? You're not breaking any rules.

2- I'm wondering if the immigration officers already know you've filed for the K1 visa? Would they have that information readily available to them? I'm thinking if they see someone visiting a friend/girlfriend for 2 weeks, that's going to cause less questioning than someone who's coming for 3 months to visit their fiance. I just want to know what to be prepared for.

3- Do you have to be in your respective country's to file the K1 paperwork?

Thanks for any/all help!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTimeline

I really don't think it works like that...they don't all come in that order: if you look at timelines, some people who applied in August received it before the ones that applied in July: the California center is even more chaotic: some people who applied in September already got the NO2. I really don't think there's a rule, some get approved in no time and some take the full 5 months: it's a game of luck!

Based on what I can on Igor's list, I have only seen July NOA 2's (at the latest) processed? Where are you seeing August & September? Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance visit while waiting on NOA 2

London will not mail a packet. They will send a letter telling you they have your file and to follow the instructions on this webpage http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html You should note the forms are in the right column. Don't forget to follow each link such as the one in Step Two that says "assemble all documents..." That page gives details of what he needs to take to the interview.

I have read some recent indication that they won't schedule the interview until they have the forms from him (of course), but also the medical results. And he has to have his police certificate to show the medical people. (Something new that has just been reported and verified by a couple of people in that last week or so.)

For the visit, the length (3 months) might prompt questions as it's more than a Christmas holiday visit. Not saying it will be a problem, but has a higher chance of questioning vs. a two week visit. "How can you be off work 3 months?" "Do you have enough money for a 3 month vacation?"

Oh I see, so really the next step is just to confirm they have it & schedule the medical? I did not realize they'd have to have the results of the medical to schedule the interview. How long does it generally take to get a medical appt? And then once that's complete, to have the interview scheduled?

I am aware of the police certificate, thankfully he ordered his in August & got it in September because at first, we thought we needed to submit it with the I-129.

Yes, a little weary about POE questioning. The truth is that he lives with his parent's & works full-time. I have a good job here & can provide support, monetarily. So he has enough money to take the 3-month leave of absence. I hope with the letter & return flight, they will understand that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance visit while waiting on NOA 2
Thanks for the help.

I am wondering then, do they schedule your interview after receiving your packet and then assume you'll do your medical on your own before then? Or will they not even schedule your interview until you have completed the medical? Sorry, this is really confusing to me.

I understand what you're saying about residing here. Although a long one, it's just a visit & his mail will continue to go to his family's house in England. His mum will be forwarding the packet as soon as she gets it and we will have all necessary paperwork.

We have extensively looked at what's suggested for POE on his visit. He'll be taking a letter from his employer & a return ticket. As he lives with his parents, he does not have a lease agreement or anything to take. We're hoping he has enough. Considering it's right before the holidays, I'm thinking it'll be quite obvious why he's visiting. We'll see I guess.

Thanks again!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance visit while waiting on NOA 2
As I was just looking through some details of the entire process, I just noticed that the London consulate won't schedule your k1 interview prior to receiving the results of your medical exam?? I did not realize this. My fiance is due to arrive here (USA) on December 21st, for a three month stay while we wait. As CSC is operating around the 5 month mark, we thought it would be nice to wait together. He has the paperwork needed on the checklist but I'm not exactly sure how it all works after the NOA2 and what the expected wait times are. How far apart do they usually schedule the medical & the interview? Help is really appreciated.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting
Just thought I'd let everyone know that Nick arrived in Omaha last night from Heathrow (miraculously, no delays or cancellations!) The CBP officer was extremely friendly passing through immigration in Minneapolis & he was only asked if he'd met my family before & to see his return ticket. Otherwise he was wished a Merry Christmas. Nick is staying until March 18th. We were so nervous beforehand but any sort of evidence was never asked to be produced this time.

I scoured this page looking for other's experiences with visiting so I thought I'd add my own. I wish everyone a happy holiday. Although I'm lucky to be with my Nick for now, your time is coming soon! Keep the faith.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMemorandum of conviction
My fiance has two previous minor crimes on his police report, neither of which included jailtime. I am told we need the "Memorandum of conviction" records, which is what I believe to be the disposition for each case. My question is do these have to be the official ones that cost 60 pounds each or is it ok to order the 5 pound version? I'm not exactly sure of the difference & what is necessary. The last thing we need is to get to the interview, have them ask for a certain type of document and not have it. It would be helpful to hear from anyone who has gone through something similar in London. Thanks so much!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical interview questions

The intention of the medical is to determine if there are any health related inadmissibility issues. They don't care about the criminal history - that's up to the consular officer to evaluate. Having a drinking or drug problem would be a health related inadmissibility, and having a criminal history that included alcohol or drug related crimes would be a pretty solid indicator that the applicant has a problem. This is why the medical examiner focused on this. It sounds like your fiance's answers were fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks very much for your response!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical interview questions
Thanks for the reply! That makes me feel better, although not sure how it could be listed on his police report as "alcohol-related" and he wasn't questioned on it?? Lucky I guess! Nick's truly wasn't alcohol-related and we don't supposed he will have any issues at the interview, just wanted to check around I guess. 5 beers in a week to a Englishman is nothing, but the same can't always be said for Americans!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical interview questions
My fiance had his medical interview in London last week, where I attended as well. Nick has two minor past crimes on his record, one involving simple assault. The medical interviewer was questioning him heavily on if this was an alcohol-related offence of not. He answered truthfully that it was not. His court records do not have toxicology reports on them, but he wasn't drunk at the time and the court records do not mention anything regarding that. The interviewer asked about how often he drinks now and he answered about 5 beers a week, which is truthful. He has never had an alcohol-related problem. 5 beers a week is clearly not a drinking problem, but he wanted to be honest instead of saying he never drinks, which would have been a lie. My question is if anyone has had experience with this? The interviewer seemed satisfied that he had answered all questions in the positive. We aren't expecting any problems, but I wanted to see what everyone thought. Thank you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview date
Just wanted to let everyone know that I called the DOS this morning, they said our packet 4 was sent out this morning and our interview date was on April 26th at 9am. Packet 3 was signed for in London on Monday afternoon, the interview was paid for Monday evening and the medical appointment was 3/29 (will update timeline soon.) I just thought it would help people to know where the London embassy is sitting as far as time goes.

On a different note, the court records for my fiance's crime (certified) do not detail what actually happened, just the punishment imposed and dates. Is this ok? We asked for every document they had relating to the simple assault charge (including the memorandum of conviction) and all we got back was a signed paper with the disposition, but no circumstances surrounding the crime. My worry is that "assault on a constable" has such varying degrees and with nothing explaining the events that occured, how will they know whether this was a crime of moral turpitude or not? There was no weapon or depraved motive, it was a brush-off and he got in trouble for it. I suppose the sentence of 8 weeks probation might be an indicator? Just want to make sure we have our ducks in a row.

Thanks for any help offered!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

Crossed again at the Fort Erie POE and had no issues. This is the second time we've crossed there. One time the Officer didn't even ask how long I was staying. Second time (just this past weekend) the officer asked and let me through no problems. At the buffalo (Queeston Lewiston POE) I've had to go in to the immigration offices both times we crossed and be issued a I94.

Thanks for the update!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

I am in the K1 process at the moment (between NOA1 and NOA2 - filed in June) and will be flying into Chicago to see my fiance this Monday. Since I've had some bad experiences with the O'Hare officers I am quite nervous... On top of that, I don't have a lease or letter from my employer to show them. But nothing ventured, nothing gained, and three months apart have taken their toll on me! So here is a list of the copies I'm taking along in case they get stroppy with me:

NOA1
Our letters of intent
I-129F form
Copy of my fiance's passport
Confirmation emails from a school in London I will be attending upon my return to Europe (a week after the date of my return flight)
Correspondence between my aunt and myself showing we have an agreement I will be staying with her in October and November

I know that last one is a little weak, but I'm hoping all of that together will sway the officer to let me through. I'll report back next week to let everyone know how it went. Wish me luck!

xxx
Vera

Good luck Vera, can't wait to hear how everything goes!!

I think I will get a RFE b/c of nit picky stuff: I printed my photos on regular paper instead of photo paper, I translated my own documents (although several people on here have done that), one of my photocopied documents is front and back and the other is 2 pages instead of one page just front and back, and I didn't use a felt tip pen to write our names on the back of our passport sized photos. I think that was it. I was surprised it wasn't rejected b/c I had made the money order to USCIS and not DHS (also a common thing among people here). I will be happily surprised if I don't get an RFE. I know those things seems a little nit picky but depending on your caseworker.... I also "know" (from reading on here) that NVC is sooooo much pickier than USCIS with forms and having all of your items "just so".
