Good advice so far but I hope you really don't have "firearms laying about the place". I'm a gun owner too and always keep them locked up. Too many criminals can easily steal guns they find laying around.

PhilippinesWedding Favors (Giveaways)
Just a couple tips:

I would avoid things made of wood or bamboo because the humidity in the US is generally lower than in the Philippines and the items will crack (personal experience).

Also make sure nothing has seeds from plant materials or US Customs will confiscate. I tried to bring in a couple of those short brooms with woven handles and they were taken away because they found seeds on them.

Now if you are a 50 year old man and your target audience is 18-20 year old women I would seriously question your intentions. Granted there are always exceptions but generally speaking this situation does & should raise some red flags.

And vice versa. I was 58 when I was on Cherry Blossoms and had specified a minimum age of 30 but was overwhelmed with responses from 18 year olds.

PhilippinesHong Kong Police certificate
My wife worked in Hong Kong for a couple years so I understand she'll need a police clearance from them. I think they only send them direct to the embassy when requested. So we got our NOA2 and I'm assembling documents to send to NVC. My question is will NVC hold up getting her an interview date because lack of HK police clearance?

I'd appreciate the experience of others who had to get HK police clearance.

PhilippinesWhere's your hometown?
My wife is from Baguio which has already been described here. She is a Genuine Igorota, her parents both from the mountain provinces. Her native dialect is Ilocano but she speaks a little and understands even more, Kan-kan-ni and Ibaloi. Of course she is also fluent in Tagalog and she teaches English in high school.

I spent some of my formative years in Baguio: I was stationed at John Hay Air Base (formerly and now again Camp John Hay) in the late 60's. I met Ferdinand Marcos when he played golf there. I also was invited to a reception at the US Ambassador's summer residence and met G. Mennen Williams, the heir to the Mennen toiletries fortune and ambassador at the time. I had my first real girlfriend in Baguio and to this day San Miguel beer is the only beer that tastes like beer should to me.

My wife and I were married in St Stephen's Lutheran church by a pastor from the mountain provinces. The wedding was a combination of American, Spanish, and Igorot traditions. The wedding party wore ethnic themed gowns and dresses.

I am from Seattle Washington but currently live in Olympia, which is the state capital of Washington. We live on the shores of Puget Sound just across a bay from The Evergreen State College.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIV Fee Bill gave the online payment option
I just waited for my IV fee bill to come by mail because my wife doesn't have her passport yet. The interesting thing is that it gave the online payment option (as the first option) and included my IIN. I immediately went online and paid it.

So if a NVC operator tells you it's not an option tell him/her you know better yes.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAppointment Letter
Hi jimcat,
Our case was complete 9-23-08, NVC made the appointment on 10-03-08, and I (agent/petitioner) got my copy of the appointment letter 10-11-08.

I just mailed a packet of documents to my wife in the Philippines by Express Mail International and the postal clerk said it would take 6 days. So 2 weeks may be reasonable for a normal letter mailed by NVC I'm guessing.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresafriad you will not be a familiy with the current economic situation
Yes, these are scary times and will likely get worse before it gets better. Just remember, however, that even during the worst of the Great Depression of the 1930's the unemployment rate was 25%. Yeah, that's high but it also means that 75% of people were employed. Do your best everyday and try to be in that top 75% of employable individuals.

The military member should get a DD form 1278 from their unit commander. This form is then submitted to the near USCIS office to get expedited citizenship processing for the alien spouse.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresThai Passport Question
QUOTE (AmericanSoldier @ Jun 10 2008, 11:32 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello all,

Just as simple question. Maybe someone on here knows.

Can my wife renew her thai passport early in the United States, as opposed to doing it upon expiration.

I would like to get this knocked out state side as opposed to waiting for it to expire and doing it when I get stationed in Germany.

We are going to do it there at the Embassy in person on my leave. I dont want to mail it and risk it getting lost.

Tried contacting the Thai Embassy in Washington D.C. by email. No follow up from them and I dont get an answer on the phone.

I will keep trying.

For anyone that has had experience with this as well.....what documents do we need to bring with us to the Embassy to get the renewal done.

I am tracking a copy of her Thai househod registration or Thai Identification card, a $50 fee, and her current passport.

Thanks ahead of time for any inputs.

V/r

Adam

You should be able to. In fact, international flights won't allow her to board unless her passport is good for a certain number of months (6 typically).
