Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionquestion about name on I-751
Use the name that shows on your drivier's license, passport etc.
If you changed your name when you got married the first time but did not change it after you got divorced, that would be the one to use...
I assume that's also the name you used when you filed for the K1 and AOS as well, right?

Congratulations to all the VSC approvals!

I will keep my fingers crossed for those who are still waiting.

@ sandy_cheeks:
All your questions have been answered (and I don't know if you'll check back in this thread) but I just wanted to say that I blacked out all very personal financial information on the papers I sent with my I-751 application... ie credit card numbers, bank account and routing numbers etc. I didn't black out anything on the tax info though (I felt like this was my strongest piece of evidence and I didn't want to mess with it).
I am sure you will be fine!

Got my biometrics done yesterday - and as I already expected: getting there through traffic was the hardest part...

I was chatting with the lady who took my fingerprints, turned out both our husbands are stationed in Ft. Lewis and both are getting ready to deploy... so she told me if I should be called in for an interview to just come by myself and bring my husbands military orders to deploy to Iraq and not to postpone the interview until he gets back. I am glad I found this out, I didn't know that and therefore would have cancelled and rescheduled a possible interview.

Hey there Liebi, glad the Seattle office was good to you. Was the gal doing the biometrics Filipino? Nice of her to give you some advice in case of interview, hopefully you won't need it though! Good luck! good.gif

Thanks ready4ONE. I am hoping the same (for all of us). star_smile.gif

Everybody at the office was real nice. I was just surprised that they processed everything/everyone in that one building. In Denver, where I did my AOS, they had a single office for everything. The biometrics office there wouldn't even let you in without the proper invitation letter for that exact date - so I always wondered how people manage to do an early-walk in-biometrics appointment. Now I know. whistling.gif

The lady who gave me the advice was a white gal, but there was a Filipino lady working at the computer right next to her.

That puzzles me, too - the business about CRI89. ?? I guess as long as you're in, that's all that matters but - does anyone else's read like that??

This is what my NOA says: Upon receipt of your ASC appointment notice , you can find the status of your case online at www.uscis.gov. To view the status of your case, enter the application number found at the top of the ASC appointment notice. NOTE: The I-751 form type will be listed as "CRI89" under the application type in our case status online tool.

Aha - now you mention it, mine says that too - thanks, Silke! smile.gif My NOA is in my desk at work, and I'm at home right now, so couldn't check and see what it said on there. The wording on the USCIS site is a bit garbled, though - it seems a CRI89 is a "PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED" which makes no sense at all. Yeah, I'm being pedantic and picky, I guess I know what they mean. wink.gif

Wow, thanks for mentioning that here - so I will not get an aneurysm once I receive my bio notice...

So true! wink.gif
My little firecracker really has no talent for paperwork whatsoever and every once in a while he manages to sneak something by me, meaning it lands on his big stack of papers or vanishes into thin air and then he gets all upset when I need it and he has to find it.
But I sent my package out Tuesday, so it's peaceful again at our house laughing.gif

I told the husband about my plan to delay filing until the 31st so we had a better chance that I would be here in SoCal when his biometrics happens, and he said, "Biometrics? I have to do something besides file papers? Are they going to interview me again? Why didn't you tell me about this? I don't want to do this, it's stupid. Forget it, I'll be illegal before I have to deal with those f*ckers again."

After I administered a chill pill, I explained it was fingerprints and photo, and no interview at biometrics. (I also mentioned the distant possibility of an interview at some stage.) He was slightly placated, but has said yes, I need to be there with him. I then explained the likely timings going forward, and what happens if his GC expires before the new one arrives. I even explained a little about naturalization, to which he said he was happy to jump through those hoops like a performing seal because he knows at the end of it he can give USCIS a great big F U, once he's holding his naturalization certificate.

Oh, he's just my little ray of sunshine. luv.gif

Ha, sounds exactly like my significant other... just in our case, he's the US citizen and I get stuck with all paperwork. When the moment comes where all he has to do is hand over the tax return papers for me to copy, sign the darn form and cover letter it's almost more than he can handle... I just raise my eyebrow when he asks why "we" have to do all this bs.
I hope I get my package on the way on Saturday wink.gif

I'm quite curious about that reminder letter now... we moved 3 times since I received my GC so I guess I better won't be waiting for one... wink.gif although I really don't get it - why do I file address changes for both my husband and me and then they send it out to my very first address???

elmcityhaven: I pretty much have the same documents you do and we also don't have a joint bank account (just credit cards), but I do have a bunch of military documents that show me as his dependant etc that's why I wanted to skip the affidavits... plus with all the moves we've done it's hard to find people that have known and lived at least kinda close to us for the whole 2 years...
I always regretted not to have gotten married in Germany and do DCF while we still had the chance, looking back I have to say going through USCIS wasn't that bad, in my case everything went smooth, you "just" need a bit of patience.

Good luck! I remember you from the AOS May filers thread. We submitted our I-751 a couple of days ago.

Curious, opinions seem divided on adding two sworn affidavits along with the packet. I am inclined to not include them as I believe our evidence is pretty strong as is.

I am thinking the exact same thing ready4ONE!

I will submit my I-751 package in about 3 weeks and so far I am convinced that I don't need the affidavits since I have pretty strong evidence of a bonafide marriage, just like you. Plus I am lazy and really don't want to to the notary thing wink.gif

Everything you added to your package looks great (thanks for posting that, we live in the same area I think, my husband and me have Costco cards as well, totally forgot about them though).
I will also add copies of insurance policies for our cars that have both our names on it to my package. And, like Silke said already, actual copies of joint credit cards and account statements.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPolice record - Germany
If he lived in any other country besides Germany after he turned 16 (for example to study or work), yes, then he will need a police certificate from that country. And better apply for those early - a friend of mine spent time in Canada studying and had to wait quite a bit till they finally sent it to her.
If he spent a year travelling for example, without giving up his German residency, then the German police certificate will be the only one he needs.
If your question refers to a couple of different places he lived within Germany - the German state issues one certificate that's valid for all places a person lived within the country.

QUOTE (NickandChristine @ Jan 3 2008, 08:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So would you recommend doing it right after the wedding and before filing AOS? How complicated is it?

Hi, according to your timeline you can do the name change along with the AOS application. Meaning: when you come to the US on a K1 you can change your name simply when you get married (Just sign the marriage certificate with your new name, that's it) and then file the AOS paperwork in your new name as well. That is no problem (and yes, highly recommended if you change your name upon marriage) and not complicated at all. You will receive all documents (EAD, GC) with your new name.
As far as the German authorities are concerned: once the AOS is done and you have your GC you can file an application with the German embassy in the US to have your name changed and your marriage registered in Germany as well (Standesamt 1 in Berlin). The embassy can also change the name in your passport, if you wish.

In sophyie's case it's a little different because she decided to change her name after marriage and after her AOS was approved, that's why she has to file a separate application (I-90).

That would be form I-90 (Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card) to get the name changed, filing fee is $ 370.

What about a International Drivers License. Has any one gotten one and what does it allow?

You have to check with your local DMV on when your wife will have to obtain a US drivers license. She probably can drive with both, her regular and international license from Japan on hand for a while but will be required to obtain a US license at some point.
Just google it!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-94 question?
Hi there,

that is point 12 on the I-129F form, right?
It says there: 'if your fiancée is currently in the US, complete the following'... but since she is not with you right now, you do not have to fill in any information, just put n/a. They do not want old arrival/departure numbers.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresReturn tickets when traveling on a K1
As long as the dates on your K1 Visa are not expired you will be fine.
The Immigration Officer should not be interested in a return ticket anyway, because the visa states that you will stay in the US. When I entered on K1 I had a return flight as well (cause it was cheaper to book a roundtrip ticket) but nobody even asked about it. They only do that when you enter on a tourist visa.
Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan a Fiance make a visit while waiting?
I was thinking about travelling to the US while waiting for the K1 on Visa Waiver as well, but checked with the US Consulate in my home country and they advised me not to do it or, if I really wanted to go on with it, talk to a lawyer first. So I had my fiance come to me instead... maybe that will work for you?
Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG 325 pic reqirment and job history question
G-325a does not require pics[/quote]

But filing I-129F for K1 does require passport style pics - one of the petitioner and one of the fiance(é), and I guess that's what she meant with her question.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG 325 pic reqirment and job history question
hi there,

i see you are from germany like i am. here is how i did it when we filed for k1:

go to a real photographer (don't use this passport machines) and tell them you need a pic us-passport-style, they will do the right size. about the hair etc - check out the posted links. i took my earrings off and put my hair behind my ears (no need for a ponytail) and did not smile and they took all my pics without problems. when i arrived in the us and had my biometrics taken they did not care about the earrings though. hm.

as for g-325 / the employers, my husband is in the armed forces as well, i simply listed it like this:
for street and number i put for example"stationed in giessen, germany", for city the cmr number, for state i wrote apo ae and for country the apo number. for the time he spend in iraq i filled in his company name and the apo address he had down there.
the addresses: us armed forces, giessen depot, hessen, germany and put active duty in the field that asks for occupation. i did this with all his duty stations. had no problem at all, went through without ever being questioned!

if you have other questions - just let me know.
