Yeah. Looking at your profile, I would put the feelings to the stresses of the process. My wife and I have a strong, STRONG relationship and we can feel the stress. In our case, we are extremely lucky that we talk and discuss everything (maybe that's not luck and just the way things should be). Y'all have been married for quite some time and have a child together; it would definitely appear that there is much more to your marriage than simply a visa opportunity. But I know nothing about the two of you really, so I am probably not the best judge. If this were my situation, though, I would find a way to talk to my wife about my feelings... of course this is an extremely delicate issue as gets right to the heart of your relationship: lack of trust. How and when you choose to approach your husband about this will make all the difference, but you two need to talk about how you are feeling. If you don't talk about it, the two of you will just continue to drift apart (this was theme of my failed 13 year first marriage, so I can at least talk about how lack of communication and sharing just perpetuates lack of trust and alienation).

Still this adds a kink I didn't necessarily need (especially when their own site says it is not necessary).

Question about the I-864s:

I have to do two (one for my wife, one for my stepson). My understanding is that I pay only once. How will that work when the rubber meets the road? Will I submit the two separately, with two separate copies of the cover sheet/payment receipt/whatever? Or do I submit them together? If together, one set of income verification documents, or two?

Well, I have the translation of this document (and the RENIEC registration, just to be safe), but my understanding was that no translations are necessary at this stage since all my docs are in English or Spanish and the interview will take place in Lima. DS-3032 Advice...

Okay here are my bone-headed DS-3032 questions:

First, note that I have two related cases (wife and stepson).

1. When I was down in Lima, I had my wife sign two forms, one for her and one for my stepson. I obtained the forms from State's website. The forms have the blank area to put the barcode. With the email notification, I received a blank form with the barcode. Which would you recommend: using the LingChe instructions and generating a barcode to put on the signed ones, or to fill out the blank ones?

2. In either case, am I correct in assuming that I then scan the document and attach it to an email that is then sent to NVC?

3. Assuming I use the signed one: Should I just snail mail the one with the affixed barcode? Photocopy okay or will the original with the pasted on barcode look funny? Can I attach the blank one with barcode and a cover letter of explanation or would this just confuse matters? (Please note that I plan to mail after emailing).

4. Assuming I use the blank one with the barcode already ready already, do I have my wife print a completed one, sign it and then scan it back in to me? Then print and mail?? (If I can do that, then I would assume the photocopy in #3 would be okay)

5. Since I have the two related cases, I was planning on putting each in its own labeled envelope and then putting both envelopes in the same FedEx mailer with a cover letter of explanation. Is this a good idea or a bad one?

This is exactly how I have done it. I am continuing to use the English-language naming convention, in the hopes of having her documents here be in the format expected. I have heard that they will process the paperwork this way okay and that they often change it at the consulate to match the passport. I hope I can get it through to being like I want it, but will deal with whatever comes my way when it comes down to it. You and I will probably have similar experiences in this regard.

Like christeen points out: as long as you have documentation. I am not too worried. They are going to know what I am trying to do... it's the way we do things here. Worse comes to worst, and we do some RFE something or other to provide paperwork with the passport name. I can't think of anything worse than that though (well maybe some red tape issues down the road, but nothing a little patience what sort out).

visa fee bill ( more many)

i pay 400 $ visa fee bill to NVC , then i send form DS 230 with all another requested document,.
Now we waiting for NVC to give us date of interview.
But , i have one question, did we have to pay any more many (to embassy) before we go to interview?
Cause ,i read on embassy web page , that there is fee for visa, so is that what i already pay to NVC , or is there something else to be pay?

Just the one fee. You don't need to pay again at the embassy. The embassy collects the fee for DCF (I believe, but someone will correct me, I'm sure, if I am wrong).

When I entered they confirmed my current US address so informing at POE should be sufficient. Your wife can reconfirm this when she is being processed. If you were to move after the POE then your wife would need to file an AR-11 and you would need to file I-865.

Yes, you will find it on the visa page of her passport. It is listed under the registration number. My "A" number is the registration number with a "0" added to the front. For example on my visa the number was listed as "12345678" and the A number on my green card is A 012-345-678.

Thanks for the info. To follow up, I called USCIS this morning and confirmed that you do inform POE. Then make sure to contact USCIS if you don't receive the welcome letter at that address and report the change to them at that time. They cannot take the change at this point, not until they are physically in country with their I-551.

Howdy all. My wife and stepson have their visas in hand (as of yesterday 01/15). We are in the process of working out travel details now. At the end of the month I will be moving to a larger apartment (to accommodate my growing family

so the address will change (just the apartment number, though). Who do I let know of this change at this point:

DS-230

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the form DS-230, I'm confused whether I should put my wife's last name or whether to put my last name as her Family Name and then where it asks for Other Names used put her maiden name. The I-130 application was filled out with her last name, the reason for this is that in Peru there is no name change for marriage. My spouse is going to get her passport for the first time, for what I'm informed NVC gives you the visa according to what name it states on the passport. But lets say that in Peru they don't want to change her last name in her passport, and she stays with her maiden name, can I still fill out the DS-230 with my last name as Family Name or should I go by what's printed on the passport. Our biggest concern is that we both want her visa to be issued with my last name, this way her green card also has her married name, this way we don't need to be doing any changes afterwards. So basically on her I-130 applicaiton she has her maiden name, on her DS-230 I would be putting my last name as Family Name, and hoping that her Peruvian passport they change her last name to her married name. I hope somebody can help me on this issue, and I hope I was clear enough. Thank you in advance.

Hey man. We just finished up in Lima. It doesn't really matter what you do on the DS-230. NVC will change it to match the passport. That's what they did in our case. I will just go through whatever I can to get her name changed on everything here. We tried really hard to get the name to be American-style, but RENIEC refused. And once they refused, it was all over but the shouting.

The good news is that I don't think you can mess it up. I used my last name as the family name the whole time, but NVC forwarded the case to the embassy with her name as it appears in her passport.

I am planning on getting fresh birth cert (certified copy from municipality - my wife was born in Ayabaca but it was registered in Siicha... luckily much of her family is still up in Sullana, so we will be able to get these) and fresh marriage cert (from Jesus Maria). Regardless of what the embassy is telling us, I will provide RENIEC certification of both (we spent all day in RENIEC registering the marriage cert, so might as well use it), especially since we will have to go and get the cert for her birth certificate anyway. My step-son's birth certificate (Miraflores) says RENIEC right on it, so I assume that it is good to go, but since we have to go wait all day at the RENIEC anyway, might as well take it along for the trip. I have plenty of "originals" (i.e. certified copies from the entity where they are registered), so if they don't give 'em back, no biggie. I have most of the stuff translated into English now, and can get fresh "originals" from the translator on short notice (agency is just up in Seattle), but I don't think I need translations for that stage (everything is either in Spanish or English).

Hey any Peruvians who have gone through this...

Did you send in the RENIEC registration with your I-130? The embassy website's page in Spanish says that you have to have RENIEC certification for all docs (even Lima), while the page in English states that this requirement is only for docs outside Lima. (I sent an email to the consulate asking them to clarify this on their website... probably never hear from them, but will be pleasantly surprised if I do.)

My stepson's birth certificate (from municipality of Miraflores (in Lima for you non-Peruvians playing along at home)) states that it is from RENIEC, but our marriage certificate (from the municipality of Jesus Maria (also in Lima)) does not state this. We did get the certificate registered at RENIEC (what a nightmare!!) and I have that document with me. When choosing which to send to USCIS (and before looking at the embassy website) I went with the certificate as it has our signatures on it. The RENIEC doc has places for signatures, but we were instructed by RENIEC not to sign... so it appeared to me that that one would appear fishier to the USCIS folks... now, of course, after having sent off my I-130 packet, I have begun to second guess myself.

I was having my wife's birth certificate translated to have for whatever comes up when she is here, so I sent the RENIEC doc off to be translated too. That way, if I get an RFE for this I can fire it right off.

I just thought I would throw this out to see if any others from Peru had gone through this and what your experiences were.

Okay back to worrying, second guessing and obsessing over my FedEx tracking number (I expect to hear fanfare tomorrow morning when it is delivered to the LockBox).

Just list her son on the I-129 form and then she will need to get a notarized letter from the childs father stating that it is OK for the child to leave the country and live with the mother in the United States. Once your file goes to the embassy in Lima they will send instructions for your fiance and her son as far as needed physical exams, etc.. At the interview, the child will need to be present and then when approved, they will issue a K-2 Visa for her son in his passport along with the K-1 visa for your fiancee. Make sure you make extra copies of the notarized form that the biological father signs because they will take a copy at the airport and you will need one at your POE as well as for enrolling him in school.
