Philippinesexit interview from those who has CRBA
If you just get your child a PI passport, you dont need to get exit clearance bcoz that will make him dual citizen.
He is automatic dual citizen bcoz he is a native born of Philipines by Filipino mother and American father ..thats what BI told me.All you need to do is show his Philippine passport and US Passport at NAIA and thats it..no more exit clearance fee and penalty.

Anyway,in my daughter's case,i just found out about it too late already..i mean we dont have time anymore to get her a Phil.passport bcoz our flight was in 5days when I went to BI for her exit clearance so the BI told me that just bring her NSO BC with me here in the US and just apply a Phil.passport for her at the nearest Philippine Embassy/Consulate so next time we visit Philippines, she can stay longer when we want too w/o penalty and no limit.

Happy trip!!!

PhilippinesCheap place to stay during medical and interview in Manila
I would recommend City State Tower Hotel its so nice there and safe and cheap.Stayed there few times when hubby visited us,during my daughter's CRBA appointment at USEM and my medical and interview.
Close to Robinson's Place and restaurants and Manila Bay.

Its very close to St.Luke's and USEM and its a sis-com of Cherry Blossom..we stayed at Cherry Blossom too before.

Also,StoneHouse are nice and cheap 5 blocks from City State.

Does the magicjack good for cellphone also?or just landline?I google it and says it can be use for canada and USA only. You can use in PI also?
Thanks...

Yes its good for cellphone and landline. You can call PI for free using magicjack if the person u are calling in PI has magicjack too,if the person has no magicjack, there's a rate for that. But if you will use it to call within US and Canada its free and unlimited.Plus with magicjack, you will not have monthly bill. You will pay once and thats good for 1 year and you can renew it again.

Not a long way to travel, have fun! =) And goodluck with the pregnancy =)

Cant I set up magicjack here and call them? Or does that only work the other way? Cuz my sister's in-laws have magicjack and she called my cell here in the US once using it and she got thru fine

My main goal is to be able to call cellphones in the phils as economically as possible. If there really is no cheap way, I just want a reliable connection. No luck with that so far. wacko.gif

Yes you can set up ur magicjack here and you can start calling your family on their magicjack number for as long you want.

Rebtel is also good... They have decent rates -- .11 for landline, .13 for mobile phones. I have been using it for a year now and so far I have not experienced any glitch. Never had any luck with call cards... most of the time, a $5 card will only give you a 10-minute decent connection and then you'll get disconnected. If you will try to call again using the same card, it will tell you that you don't have sufficient funds on it. So there goes your balance down the drain.

good.gif

Im using Rebtel too..my husband used it too everytime he call when I was still in the Philippines. Its riable and fast..plus you dont need to dial a number and enter pin..all u need to do is add the person's number you want to call in ur rebtel account and they will give you local access number for each person..all u need to is save it to ur phone and just look in their name and press call..thats it!

PhilippinesThe name on your passport and green card
[quote name='Rocky_nBullwinkle' date='Jun 6 2009, 10:45 AM' post='2997121'

Yes, my passport has expired and I filled out all the forms in my married name. In your case, you can always get an amendment because your passport is good until 2013. But if you want to use your married name in your passport na, $25 for amendment and $50 for a new passport. Either one, but you still need to do a report of marriage and that's $25 too. Do the report of marriage, and the amendment or a new passport at the same time if I were you.
[/quote]

Thank you.Yes I will do it at the same time na.Report of Marriage and Amendment. Also I will apply a Philippine passport for my daughter as well because that will make her dual citizen.

Salamat uli.

PhilippinesThe name on your passport and green card
QUOTE (Rocky_nBullwinkle @ Jun 5 2009, 10:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi guys! Mr Bill and I went to San Francisco to the Philippine Consulate today to get my passport renewed and report our marriage. We got all the forms online from the Consulate website and filled those out. One copy of the application for renewal with 2 pictures we had done locally and copy of my ID. We also filled out 3 copies of the Report of Marriage document with three copies each of the marriage certficate, of my NSO birth certificate, and of both our passports data page. We also brought with us a USPS Express Mail stamp ($17.50). We got there by 10:30 am.

The first place we stopped was to see the Information Officer. He checked our stuff and he didn't think that the passport pictures we took were good enough. The quality was okay, but we took a blue bed sheet with us for the background and you could see creases and wrinkles on the sheet. So that didn't work.

So we went downstairs at the embassy and got the pictures redone for 12 bucks (2 copies). We went back upstairs and within 5 minutes it was our turn to go to the passport desk. They check all our stuff again and everything was okay. And then she made me sign the forms and took my fingers prints. She also looked at my original documents: Passports, NSO Birth Certificate and Marriage License (Certificate). The last thing she did was to give Mr. Bill a USPS Express Mail envelope to put the stamp we brought with us on the envelope and address it to ourselves because we opted for my passport to be mailed to us instead of driving back to San Francisco in 6 weeks to pick it up.

It was only about 11:30 and we could have left then, but I was still worried about the thing with my name and they suggested we get a One and the same document. So back to the information guy. We photocopied 2 copies of my green card and passport on the same sheet of paper and we got a new number to wait our turn again. About 20 minutes later, we went to the Legal/Visa counter and talked to the guy. He tells us we were bad and I should have put my given name as shown on my birth certificate on my green card. Oh well, so we requested a One And The Same document and head over to cashier and paid an additional $25 on top of the $50 we paid for the passport and $25 for the Report of Marriage.

Then came the long agonizing wait. Two and a half hours laters and both our butts were sore. I guess there's only one guy in the whole consulate that could sign all those documents and he finally showed up. We got out there about 3pm.

We're done. Now we just have to wait. But what's new?

Did you filled out the application form for renewal of passport in your married name or maiden name?Is your passport about to expire or not?Coz my passport (maroon) will expire in 2013 but I want to change it to my married name so when we go to PI for vacation,my passport will be on my married name already. Also I want to report my marriage and do it both at the same time, coz we live far from Phil.Consulate in Fort Lauderdale,FL.We are in Florida too but its 7hours drive to go there.

PhilippinesThe name on your passport and green card
As I know, once you got married, your middle name will be your last name (Father's lastname/surname) .

Mine is:

Dawn D. Asuncion - single
Dawn A.Smith - now, this is what I'm using on all of the paperworks,ID's,EAD and GC.Bcoz that's how I thought the Philippine way is.

thank you all...

Yes you should but what i did was I applied for my SSn after we got married to have my married name on my SS card. Then I went back to the SS office as soon as I received my green card for them to replace my SS card that authorized me to work.
Your Card will be marked "NOT AUTHORIZED " for work pa till u get ur green card..correct me if am wrong ppl.

I applied for my SSN after 1 week of my entry. Then went back to SSA after we got married to changed it to married name..on my ssn card it says "Valid for Work Only with DHS Authorization".

Once I receive my greencard..I will go to SSA again to inform them about my status from temporary resident (K1) to permanent resident so they will update it to their records and have them remove the restriction on my ssn card.

P.S.

You need to change your SSN to married name before your I-94 expires. At least 3weeks before it expires,or else they will tell you to come back when you have your EAD or GC already.

If your immigration status changed or you became a U.S. citizen, you should tell Social Security so your records can be updated. To get your immigration status or citizenship corrected, you need to show documents that prove your new status or citizenship. Only certain documents can be accepted as proof of citizenship for new and replacement cards. These include your U.S. passport, a Certificate of Naturalization or a Certificate of Citizenship. If you are not a U.S. citizen, Social Security will ask to see your current immigration documents.

So my daughter's friend who was born here in the US is already a dual citizen.(US and Philippines). While my daughter born in the Philippines and she had her CRBA at US Embassy, all I need to do is get her a Philippine passport and that's makes her dual-citizen.That's the Bureau of Immigration in the Philippines told me before we left.

About my Mother Inlaw, she is the best mom-inlaw,akala ko masungit sya kc she is German and lives in Germany.Naghiwalay kc ang parents ng asawa ko and he is the only child of his parents.Back in PI,me and mom-inlaw always talked on emails and txt and sometimes we called each other. Then before we got here, she said that she is planning her trip to go here to attend our court wedding and at the same time to see her only grand-daughter and her son because they didn't see each other for 12years..I was so happy when I finally met her and her husband now, they are so nice and sweet. They had something for me and for my daughter.Pag nasa work hubby ko,pinupuntahan nila kmi ng anak ko tpos isasama nila kmi gumala, magpunta sa park, garden then kain sa labas, tulungan pa ako mag-alaga sa anak ko pra nman daw mkpag-relax ako.Sobrang bait wala ako masabi.Pinatikim ko sila ng Filipino Food and I'm glad kasi nagustuhan nila at di sila pihikan.Sana magkita-kita uli kmi, kasi nman layo nila.

I've got to ask, because some one has to do it, why are the Philippines so apparently overrepresented on VJ in terms of K-1 beneficiaries? I understand that the country makes up somewhere around 1.37% of the world population, but my sense is that somewhere around 75% of the k-1 beneficiaries on this site are from the Philippines. What gives?

Shhhh, itz a well-kept secret: Filipinas make the best wives. They KNOW how to properly care for their man!

PhilippinesGetting SSN before or after marriage?
good.gif

Yes,better get SSN now before u get married then just change it to ur married name after you get married..You need SSN to get State ID and also for opening a bank account, you never know if they will ask you for ssn or not.Maganda na ang ready.

PhilippinesGetting SSN before or after marriage?
Hi,K1 visa is good for 6months,while your I-94 is 90days for marriage.
I had my K1 visa October and I got here in the US January 18.After my 1week entry here..I went to SSA applied ssn with my maiden name then after we got married last February,I went back to SSA again to changed my ssn to married name..didn't encounter problems as long that your I-94 is still valid atleast 1month.When I went back to SSA to changed to married name,my K1 visa was expired already but my I-94 was still valid...

I-94 which is valid for 90days and you have to get married before it expires while K1 visa allows you to enter US before it expires.K1 visa is 6months validity.

So If I were you,I will get SSN now before my I-94 expires.Nung nag-open ako ng bank account, applied for state ID,they asked for my ssn.You might need ssn to open an account.Mas maganda na ang ready. Also sa mga paperwork, lagi ini-ask ang ssn.

I saw your timeline. You got ur visa May 20,so the expiration of ur visa is 6months from the date you had your medical,if its still like that...not July like you said

Then you arrived here June 5,so your I-94 expiration is on September 5 pa.May time ka pa mag-apply ng ssn mo using your maiden name then change it to married name after you got married.Make sure to change it to married name atleast a month before your I-94 expires.

Btw,best wishes to your upcoming wedding star_smile.gif
