CanadaMontreal consulate

Yeah, I would love to know how they do it. I was really surprised how quick the first step was, and its been fast since then, relatively. I wonder if anyone keeps any stats here with anything more than what service centre, country of origin etc that we normally see. I would be interested to see if level of education or profession, ethnic profiling, anything really has to do with the length of time it takes. Or something besides it was on the desk and got accidentally knocked into the out basket.

Yes that would be very interesting statistics.

CanadaJust got my Interview date !!

Wow that was very quick!

I wonder if faxing in the checklist speeds things up.

Congratulations!

Actually that is how Vancouver wants you to correspond with them. They say all correspondance with this office is either by fax and by email. Sounds like Vancouver has figured things out.

Its good to know that end of the process moves rather quickly.

CanadaQuestion on which consulate
Many people have asked the question which consulate will they being going through. I was on Consulate of Vancouver's website and found this information. I thought it would help anybody that wasn't sure. I also included the website address as to where I found this.

Applicants must also be residing in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Yukon or the Northwest Territories. All other applicants in Canada are processed at the U.S. Consulate in Montreal.

CanadaI got arrested
This reminds of me of an incident last year with my fiance. It was the night before I was to fly into Winnipeg. He calls me and tells me he is being arrested. Of course, I am flipping out. I was calling his roommate trying to figure out what was going on. He was arrested and taken to the police station. He was interrogated for 6 hours. A few hours before my flight is scheduled to leave. He calls me and tells me that he was arrested because they thought he was somebody else. Mistaken identity. Unbelievable! Another guy in the apartment complex he lived in was breaking into the laundry facilities and taking the loonies out. It wasn't my fiance but he said on the tape that they had it looked just like him with the exception that the real robber had a scar on his left cheek. While they interrogated him at the station, they came and ransacked his apartment. They interrogated his roommate too. They assured him that this would not show up on his RCMP report.

He is ordering this as soon he gets back to Canada next week. What a nightmare!

CanadaMoving to US

One can get a quote for U-haul on their web site. Expect around 10 mpg for fuel costs!!
I booked my truck well in a months advance, but they couldn't gaurentee me a truck until like 3 days prior!! Truck was filthy inside!! U-haul doenst have the greatest positive feedback!! Would I rent from them again, if I had to do the trip ove? Ya probably, I rather drive it down myself to ensure it arrives safely and I enjoy driving. But if u do go with them, book well in advance and touch base with them periodically to ensure u have a truck.

We were told we had to book a month in advance with U-Haul. This was from Winnipeg. We have been calling around for quotes and haven't found anything cheaper.

would it be closer to go to Calgary? You don't use your provincial medical card so going to another province is o.k.

I didn't realize he could go to a different province. Hmmm! I like the romantic getaway idea! ;)

This part irritates me. I can't believe there is only 1 doctor in British Columbia. Of course, my fiance lives on the other side of the province. Grrrrr!

Welcome aboard! I will be right with you there soon as we haven't filed yet either. I have been here a long time but been waiting on my fiance's divorce papers to be finalized. (Finally done March 17th after 1 1/2 years of waiting)

Good Luck!

According to Zyggy who is a USA Customs dude, they do see your application in their system!! But can a trust a guy with a nick "Zyggy?" lol

I would have to say that it probably does come up but all you have to do is be honest and you will be fine.

CanadaWe made it across

I'm crossing the border tomorrow for the first time since applying. I don't expect any problems, though I wonder if they can see the K1 application when they scan my passport.... I don't call him my fiance and I don't have a ring. I will just stick with "visiting my boyfriend" and see what happens.

and Yay!! A visit!!

You will be fine. In fact, I was asked less questions this time coming and going than I ever have before.

Now I drive him back to Hamilton, ON Sunday. BUMMER!!! :(

CanadaWe made it across
As most of you know, I went Friday to pick up Darcy in Hamilton, ON. I was a nervous wreck after having my car searched the last time up there. Well it was a piece of cake. Going into Canada the agent didn't even ask for my driver's license. The agent was joking with me and having a good ole time. As we were entering the US, we were just asked the basic questions. Only thing out of the ordinary he asked was if we were planning on getting married while he was here. We said no that the visa was in process. He handed back his passport and my driver's license and told us to have a great trip.

I will now be scarce on the board for the next 13 days. :P

I guess my fiance too will have to think about that question. He is a long-haul truck driver and used to cross the border on a weekly basis. Hmmm!

I don't think that will work. I think you will have to wait for the actual RFE form. We are all frustrated with California.

personally, I think it is kinda pointless to try and guess the timelines of the forms, the RFEs, and the processing. The point is they have announced an actual plan - RFEs for those who have applied. Eventually, we will get one. From that point on it is processing as usual - i.e., some fast, some slow, some with further RFEs, etc.

I just want to be off perma-hold.

I have kept up with this thread from the very beginning since we are affected by this too. I am more confused than ever on this.

It makes you just want to scream. If I wasn't sharing an office with somebody, I would probably do that just to let off some steam! :crying:
