CanadaEasier for Canadians?
Due to IMBRA the beginning part seems to be the longest part especially if you are going through California. California was slow to begin with.

Vancouver is quicker than Montreal in getting interviews scheduled as the timelines have shown in the past.

CanadaDenied entry at Rainbow Bridge

Ahhh, you guys give me hope! My boyfriend is still feeling very dejected and hopeless about the whole thing, but I'm anxious to have him try again and see what happens so we can go to plan B if necessary.

Much thanks!

Jen & Darcy - A question for you...how long did Darcy stay during the visits once allowed entry and also how long was stated when the denial was issued? We're concerned that the closer to the 90 day deadline for a visitor visa, the more likely he is to be denied again. He was initally planning a 6-8 week stay.......Thanks again!

When he came in June, he stayed for 6 weeks. In December 2005, he stayed for 3 1/2 weeks. In May 2006, he stayed for 16 days. He was denied in May 2005 because he couldn't show ties back to Canada.

Its never a guarantee when crossing the border if you will get across or not. Just be honest and answer only what is asked of you.

CanadaDenied entry at Rainbow Bridge
I can relate to this posting as well. Darcy was denied at a land border last May. He was photographed and fingerprinted. He was also given a list of items to bring the next time he tried to cross. In June, he was able to get on a plane with no questions asked. He has since been back in December 2005 by plane and May 2006 by land border with no questions asked. I guess its hard to say what might happen if your boyfriend tries the plane route.

Nope... If you live Ontario east, you go to Montreal Manitoba west goes to Vancouver. You do not get a choice.

CanadaMedical Scheduled

They needed my Ref # when I went for the medical- don't you get that at the packet 3? They requested it on the phone when I booked the appt date.

I don't think they have packet 3 yet as their I-129F has not been approved yet.

This is true we are not yet approved but should be coming soon. We are trying to save a step because he isn't exactly close to any of the doctors that are on the list. He will already be in Calgary awaiting a flight to come to the states. He phoned and asked if it was possible to get his medical before getting the case # and they scheduled him. Time will tell!
jen&darcyNot TellingCanada2006-07-27 23:23:00
CanadaMedical Scheduled
Darcy contacted the doctor in Calgary. They were willing to schedule his medical without having his case #. We think we will have the NOA2 before that point in time. They said they would just hold onto his paperwork until he received the case number. He is scheduled for September 5th. He asked them because on the 8th he is then traveling down here to go on a family vacation to Disney World.

I hope we have our NOA2 by then and it is processed through NVC.

Disregard this post. I couldn't find the answer before when I searched prior to posting. I searched by using a person's screenname and found what I was looking for.

Thanks anyways!

CanadaTraveling to states after visa is approved
The reason I ask is there is a good possibility (slim but possible) that Darcy could get his interview before he comes here in September for our family vacation to Walt Disney World. However, he wouldn't have enough time to go to Winnipeg to get his stuff packed in U-pack before crossing. He thought if he could get the interview done and overwith, then come down on the vacation and then go back to Winnipeg and get his stuff packed in U-pack before activating his K-1. I am just not sure if that is possible or not. Maybe I should have him contact customs or the Consulate.

CanadaTraveling to states after visa is approved
Can you come to the states after receiving the k-1 visa but not activating it at that time? Then return to Canada to finish things up and then come to the border to activate visa.

Does that make sense?

CanadaDo any Canada/US land crossings issue stamp enabling to work?
Just an FYI - I just called US Customs and Border control. The lady suggested contacting any of the US/Canada POE's prior to getting there to see if they issue the EAD stamp. She did confirm that the Ambassador bridge does. She thought the ones in Buffalo did also. I thought I would suggest this in case anybody else was thinking of getting an EAD stamp while activating their K-1.

CanadaDo any Canada/US land crossings issue stamp enabling to work?

One of the Detroit ones did and maybe still do, check for posts from VJ user: Bobo
He/she went through there and got it.

Thank you! I found it! We will go through the Ambassador bridge then. It will be a little hike from Hamilton but that's ok.

CanadaDo any Canada/US land crossings issue stamp enabling to work?
Are there any Canada/US crossings that issue the stamp authorizing work? I know it expires when the K-1 one does but I have a part-time business that he could work if he had authorization. Somebody had said that the Ambassador does but I don't know for sure.

Do you know how I could find out what crossings do, if any?

Thanks for your help!

CanadaCashing a CDN Check

I just did this yesterday. i recieved a pittance of the child support owed to me in form of a cheque from Family responsibility office, they wont direct deposit to foreign accounts. i just took it to my bank, asked if i could deposit it, explained it was canadian funds from a canadian bank, they said no problem, no fees were mentioned so they better not frikkin charge me any. The teller just suggested I not spend it for a few days until they had time to figure out the exchange rate and adjust my account to reflect the exchanged money. Good to know! This was Charter One

I use Charter One also. A branch where I work (Lakewood) will exchange the check into US funds on the spot. Other branches deposit but then goes through their foreign exchange department who then converts and deposits the money into my account (takes a few days usually).

Just make sure to let them know its a Canadian dollar check. I think most banks will either convert right away or deposit and have their foreign exchange department convert and then deposit.

CanadaVancouver vs Montreal
It also says on your NOA2 which consulate but you should be at Vancouver based on living in Manitoba.

CanadaVancouver Consulate
We are also going to ask for an interview for the last week of September. He is already scheduled to come here on September 8th for a family vacation to Disney World. His medical is in Calgary before he leaves to come here. I wish we could get the interview before he is scheduled to come down but I really don't think its possible.

Do they interview Monday through Friday or are the interviews only on specific days of the week?

CanadaK-1, Vancouver Consulate, and I-134
I have another question regarding this topic. On the new I-134, it doesn't state that you need 3 years of tax returns. Is this still needed in Vancouver? I was going to get tax transcripts from the IRS just in case.

Thanks,
Jen
jen&darcyNot TellingCanada2006-08-15 12:17:00
CanadaK-1, Vancouver Consulate, and I-134
The DS-230 is the only thing you have to fax back to Vancouver along with the checklist, right?
jen&darcyNot TellingCanada2006-08-01 20:11:00
CanadaI-134
I had posted on another thread my questioning of if I still needed to supply 3 years of tax returns because on the new I-134 it doesn't talk about needing any tax returns. I assume that is where it was stated before. I did confirm however with the Vancouver Consulate that 3 years are still necessary.

I thought I would post in case anybody else had any doubt.

CanadaRealistic processing times
Mine will probably be about 5 months once its finished. We are just waiting for packet 3 now and we are going through Vancouver. We should have our interview date at the end of September sometime. As others has said, there are alot of variables that could sway the timeframe one way or the other.

I was really good about gathering the stuff for the I-129F but he is now waiting for me on the I-134 and supporting evidence.

CanadaMoving Question
Darcy and I are still trying to figure out how to get him here. :P With all the flights he will have to take, hotels, and the shipping of his stuff is equaling to be alot of money. Darcy had a thought and I just wondering if it would work. I was wondering if anybody could shed some light on this. Currently Darcy's stuff is in storage in Winnipeg (he lives in Kelowna now). We thought about leaving it there and just pay monthly storage fees until he can get advanced parole and we can then drive up and get it. Do you think there would be an issue with that? I am not sure how that would go over with coming back through customs. I told him to contact customs and ask because I really don't have any knowledge of this.

Thanks for any help you can give us on this!
