The US embassy in Muslim countries really sends people out to interview your neighbors and friends about your religion?

Yikes.

Is the "yikes" directed at my ignorance of this process? I really hadn't heard about the home visits before. Do they take place before or after the interview? How far are they willing to go just to talk to your neighbors?

I've never heard of a home visit before either. I've heard of having several interviews, but that's it... It's definitely not a commonplace thing!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRecieved NOA2 but not approved anyways
Try calling USCIS and following the prompts for an RFE. I haven't heard people talking about it much anymore, so maybe it doesn't work, but last year it would put you through to the actual service center, who had correct information on you file. In our case, we were approved, but never got an online notice or NOA2 in the mail. I called the normal USCIS since everyone around us was getting approved and was told we weren't approved. I called using the RFE prompts and found out we had been approved 2 weeks prior and it was at NVC. It's worth a try, and hopefully you'll get someone a bit more informed than the normal USCIS "help" line

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUrgent help needed: after NOA2
1 and 2 are kinda country specific, so I don't want to try and answer. The NOA2 is basically a marker for being 1/2 way there. For most of us, the big steps are getting through Cali or Vermont, then getting through NVC, then getting through the embassy. Getting your NOA2 means that the first part is over and you aren't held in USCIS limbo anymore. There are lots of people who get held up for 6 months or more, so it does shorten the potential time you could have waited.

If you have received your NOA2, you can call the NVC (speak with a person) and find out if they have received it. Once they process it, it goes to the embassy who will then contact you (usually, again country specific). If you haven't gotten your NOA2, you just have to wait, there is no way of really knowing where you are at. THe reason for the time line differences in the 6 months put out by USCIS is sort of a CYA so tons of people don't call 2 months after sending their petition.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHELP! J1 Visa interfering with K1 visa??
Malek, it means you don't have the 2 year home residency requirement. SOme people on that visa must return to their home country for 2 years before they can apply for another visa to the US (other than visitors visa).

To the OP, file one. It seems like a waste of $$ and time to file 2 visas to get to the US, both of which you can transition to AOS. Since you have already started K1, I'd stay with it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplying for K1
http://www.visajourn...mp;page=k1guide

It also tells you in the instructions on I-129f under "what other documents do you need". I haven't heard most people having letters from friends and family unless they don't have any other evidence or they are from a high fraud consulate, which Canada is not. So basically unless you have NO evidence of a relationship, I wouldn't bother with it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I marry and stay while on a tourist visa?
Yes you can marry her when you are here, but its very risky to stay. Tourist visa's and VWP aren't to be used to move to the US. If you did marry when here, you would need to file a spousal visa, which a K1 is NOT. K1 is for FIANCE's, ie unmarried people. Being married would be automatic denial of the K1, a waste of time and money. To file the K1, you would have to wait until you were approved and moved to the US to marry

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe Abu Sayaff want to marry my fiance and put her in a Harem; any ideas on expediting this paperwork? Help please..
I'm from the Philippines, and I've never heard of such ARMM law. You really should get your facts straight and not just rely on second hand info. We do have different family laws for Muslims, but I don't think this situation is condoned by our shariah (forgot the spelling) courts.

She can always seek the help of "Gabriella" or some other Non-governement Organization who protect women's rights.

In no way am I implying fraud or any of that stuffs, BUT you really should investigate more on your fiance's claim. I don't want to get in between the two of you, and this is just a friendly advice. Check out details, facts, and not just traditions and hear says. I'm from the Philippines, I'm studying law right now, never heard of such thing.

Anyhoo, don't get mad at some of the comments here about you getting a preferential treatment or some sort, we're all waiting for our love ones. Some of us here are even married already. Your fiance's claim sounds a bit too... exaggerated and unbelievable. I live in the Philippines, even I can't wrap my head around it (i mean no disrespect here)

Good luck!

anyway, either way.. you still have to meet her first for you to get a k1 or k3 or cr1

it sounds suspicious to me that she and her mom never filed a petition to make her an American citizen.

i don't want to sound like i'm discouraging you, BUT nurses here cannot work in the US without at least 2 years experience... as far as i know.
this is also why hospitals here are exploiting RNs by making them pay the hospitals as interns for two years or sometimes they pay them little allowance.

MEET her first... this is a very good suggestion.

No, it does not need to be translated!!!! BUT have your fiance go to the person who baptised him and get a copy of his birth certificate in Danish and English. That's what we did. Translation will cost a lot of money and it's not needed. In package 3 from the Danish consulate it states that documentation can be in English OR Danish.

Again just to be safe incase things have changed, have your fiance' go to the person who baptised him and get the birth certificate that is in both langauges. If you want to I can scan my husbands so you can see what it looks like.

The person needing the birth certificate is not Danish and may or may not have been baptized, since they may or may not be Christian.

That's what you get in Denmark- you don't get a standard birth certificate- your birth is registered at a church, therefore you need to get it from a clergyman. However I just saw that they weren't Danish, so yes it needs to be translated to English( if and only if it's in any other langauge than Danish or English)- Thanks for catching my slip up smile.gif

Trying to navigate this maze and could use some help, encouragement, advice, etc. wacko.gif

I submitted our application to Texas in late June and received canceled check in July. Some questions...

1. I never received a hard copy (is that the NOA1?), but called the customer service folks and they told me how to find the receipt number on the canceled check, which I did. Shows it was received JULY 2nd and sent to CSC for processing. I still never have received hard copies of anything in the mail -- will I need anything or is the ability to track progress online enough?

2. Is there anything we should be doing while we wait for notification of approval of the application?

3. Beginning with the end in mind ... with a JULY 2nd receipt date and clean records for both myself and my fiancee (we met July 2006 and I've been there 7 times) when would you guess she'll finally receive her Visa?

Thanks from this Texas rookie.

Good luck to all.

The hard copy NOA1 isnt really that necessary. The hard/paper copy of the NOA2 is something you'll desperately need. If you don't receive it, then call customer service and have them mail you a new one...youll need it for AOS.

While you're waiting...i'd request tax transcripts from the IRS for the past 3-4 years. You can do this via their website. This will help in proving your financial status to the consulate. Also, get records for any of your phone calls, internet chat logs, 30+ pictures, immigration stamp photocopies, etc.

Also, take her or have her go to the hospital in BKK for her health check-up, and request her police records in BKK also. From what I'm told, it takes about 3 weeks to get them. This will save you some time to get them now.

I wish you the best of luck in this journey my friend. Take care.

Just wanted to check in with everyone and introduce myself here. I'm happy to see there is a whole Thailand thread. I'll be counting on you guys to help me out with ridiculous questions sometimes...haha headbonk.gif helpsmilie.gif

Welcome JCochranUSN...glad to see another family military member here. I was in the military. I had just retired two months ago from 21 yrs, 9 mons, & 9 days from the USAF. I'm a new Thai thread member as well. You should get your approval soon. Best of luck. good.gif

Thanks for the welcoming:) I'm also happy to see another military member here. I sure hope you are right that I get the approval soon. I was SOOOOOOOO happy to get the email from the Officer at CSC saying I only had 30 more days to wait until action. I think this email is a little more reliable than calling the "misinformation line."

I've been so paranoid the last two weeks. I'm so worried they will deny me for stupid things. Like I was charged with an "open container" violation 3 years ago. I was late on a couple payments for my internet service and my Sirius satellite radio (will they think im financially unstable)??.

It's ridiculous how much I've been stressing and how much I've been thinking into this.

Will I need the Tax data for the last 3 years as well? (I've worked at the same company for the last 8 years).

Just something to consider - by the time your petition is approved and your finace(e) had their interview date, the letters you have now may be too old to submit. It probably depends on the consulate, but I'd guess that a good rule-of-thumb would be current up to 6 months.

Yes, I thought about that, as long as there is no drastic changes, then it would only take a bit to retype the letters with the current dates.

I have few questions, knowing that our interview is coming at the BKK embassy.

For the Thai citizen's birth

certificate:--Is it suppose to be

translated into english for the

interview, or not?

On the I-134- The 'Oath or Affirmation of

Sponsor' says: "I swear (affirm) that I

know the contents of this affidavit

signed by me and that the statements are

true and correct." Is only the 2 paged

I-134 form to be notarized or, is all

supporting evidence accompaning the I-134

Such as: tax returns, W2's, statement

from employer, statement from financial

institutions required to be notarized as

well? As I see it, the I-134 form signed

and notarized affirms that any and all

supporting evidence attached to it will

be true and correct as well. Chai mai?

G-325A form fiancee--I originally filled

in --/--/1939 for her Father' birthdate,

actually it should be --/--/1936. What do

you think? Should I send some appendice

along with all the other info for the

interview explaining this screw-up, or

should I let it slide?

Oiy, I wonder if I posted this in the correct string, thread, or sweater. but thanks if you guys answer.

Does anyone know if it's possible to download a DS-156 in .pdf format?

For my K1 interview in Croatia I need the mentioned form, filled in by hand - they specifically said I shouldn't fill it in ONLINE and submit it electronically, but instead bring the copies with me to the interview. Apparently, they can't process this type of visa electronically. I can't seem to find the form ANYWHERE on the internet. The only way I can get a copy is to hit the continue here and print out a blank form with a barcode on it.

Has anyone else done it this way? Or any other way that DID NOT include the electronic way of filling in the DS-156?

The Embassy sent me a copy of DS-156, but it's in Croatian and it expired 5 years ago so I did not intend to use that particular one.

Just so you know - when you complete the electronic version of the DS-156, it does not submit your information (electronically) - it simply inserts all the data you entered into the bar code - anyone completing the DS-156 online still needs to print it out and submit it via traditional methods (most bring to the interview). If that helps. good.gif

Thanks for your reply.

So I should just fill it in electronically, print it out the same way I did every time for a visitor visa and then bring the forms with me, just like I did for the visitor visa, too? The barcode on it, I assume, won't matter?

I am not sure those forms are on the USCIS website, I believe they are discussed at travel.state.gov the State department Website...go figure....

My attorney had all those forms filled out for me and sent them to me in an email so my fiancee could just sign them, then they sent the whole package off to the embassy..

The USCIS forwards the petition after the 2nd NOA (Approval). The first NOA is only a receipt. The affidavit and supporting documents are not needed by the NVC. They are required at the Embassy / Consulate level for final visa approval.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSetting a Wedding Date
Our K-1 visa was approved back on 21 May. We have not made any plans for a wedding date and will not until she crosses the POE. There are just too many variables in this process. We both agree that until she has officially walked over that line and told "Welcome to the US" a productive discussion about our wedding is premature. We have only stated in all paperwork that we fully understand and accept the condition that we must marry prior to 90 days from her officially entry.

I'm one to believe in "supply and demand", though I also believe in being fair. In this case, I think it should be avaliable for K-1's to be made to go faster for more money. After all, we already do this with so many other services!
And besides, think of as a test of "is it worth it to ya" vs. "can you afford it"

The same thing is done with passports, they have an expedited version of that, is that fair to have it faster if you can afford the more money?

It's the only way they could regulate something of a fast and slow line. If they had a free fast lane, everyone would pile into that.

Look at wal-mart. They have a 20 items or less lane. Is it fair to the people who CAN'T buy less than 20 items to wait in line? Maybe... But then there would be no fast lanes.

I guess all I'm saying is, it's a system of regulating the people who are willing, not the people who are able. I'm sure if there was a legit way of measuring who needed or wanted something, they'd use that instead. /end rant

Hey, I'm poor. But I still understand the system, even if it does end up corrupt sometimes. XD

But either way... there is no expedited version of the K-1. lol Damn...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs the K-1 an IMMIGRANT or NON-IMMIGRANT Visa?
Look like this has been well covered! I laughed too when I first saw the Embassy juggle with it. She is a non-immigrant but when you marry and go to adjust status she will be now immigrating. So they are saying, treat the K visa like an immigrant visa without the official title.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHas anyone used usavisanow.com? Any experience?
Give yourself true peace of mind and save your money! Unless your have serious issues, lawyers do nothing to help this process or expedite service. They stand in the same line as the general public. Filing a for a K-1 is simple and straight forward. Just follow the instructions and you will be fine. If you get confused, come to these forums. There are tons of folks that have been through this with answers.

Stop feeding the lawyers! If we do, they should weaken enough to stop breeding. Over time we might be able to drive them into extinction. The world will be a far better place!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI want to know something
Speaking from experience our K1 took almost 10 months. It is correct that everybody is different as to the amount of time. My husband did get the EAD stamp upon arrival at JFK but wasn't even aware they gave it to him because of where it was placed. Most jobs require a social security number to apply and you have to wait about two weeks after arrival to apply for the social. It took us another two weeks to get it so that is one month off of the 90 day work permit. I agree it would be hard to convince an employer to hire you and then you will have to possibly quiet in a few months.

Weigh the pros and cons....best wishes to you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp me !
Here's a good link to follow to file K1. If you choose to wait to marry they seem to be moving faster in Cairo...read read read and save everything from her trip. Take pictures, save emails, phone bills anything you can.
The initial fee is made out to the Department of Homeland Security but read the directions and it will help you to originally file. Like others said there are additional fees at the interview that you will pay and for the medical. Let us know if we can help. Best wishes!

I just want to let you know that I have heard where a lot of people do not receive letters in Egypt. My husband never received any of mine and I have two friends that never received their letters either. Do not send anything in important in the envelope. Good luck!
