IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR1 Visa Received - Colombia

This is the first opportunity I've had to get on Visa Journey since the visa interview in Bogota, Colombia. We went to Orlando immediately after arriving in the States on our way from Miami to northwest Florida. She got her visa!!! I posted details of the interview in the "Foreign Embassy and Consulate General Discussion" forum. It is posted under the "CR1 Colombia Club." Thanks to everyone for all of their assistance during this process. The people I have met here on Visa Journey have been very helpful and I know things would not have gone so rapidly and successfully without the help I received from this community. Thanks again.

Mark

Mark:

Congratulations! I´m so happy for you guys!

I read about the problems you had after the approval, and thanks for sharing your story.

I´m in Bogota now as you may have read, having a lot of problems myself. Hopefully our situation will be resolved quickly as yours was.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresManila Interview scheduled!!!!
Congratulations Jazzy!!! I at least have a glimmer of hope that we just might have a March interview since we'll almost a month behind you. We're hoping and praying hard.

Did you receive the interview appointment letter at your US address? There are so few CR-1s here that I was not sure if either I or my asawa, or both, would receive it. As agent of choice, I was thinking that all correspondence would be sent to me.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresmarraige and tax/dependent ?'s
Jazzy,

Go to the IRS website and download the W-7 form and instructions. Fill up the blanks on the form and send it to your spouse for her signature. Don't date it just yet.

Next, she will need a CERTFIED copy of the biographic pages from her passport. It's the simplest way to satisfy the documentation requirements. Read the W-7 instructions. To get the certfication she will need to go to the Dept of Foreign Affairs Regional Consular Office in Cebu and request the certficate. The fee is P100. This is actually a legal size sheet that declares that her passport is legit and it includes essential bio info. This letter will have a raised seal on it and will be signed by an officer.

Have her send the signed W-7 and the DFA letter to you. Next year file married joint and include the signed and dated W-7 form, the DFA letter and a copy of her passport bio pages. She will be assigned the ITIN then. Use your US mailing address. The ITIN information will be mailed to her there. There are special requirements for mailing to follow. Expect a big delay if you are expecting a refund.

Hope this helps.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMissing Documents? DS-230
I sent a PM to you in answer to your PM to me. The Police Clearance is the Police Certificate. Like my friend Jazzy, we also sent an original Police Clearance certificate with the DS230 and had no problems. The rules seem to suggest that it's not needed if you've never lived outside the Phils, but....we just wanted to be sure. Of course we sent the NBI, too. If your spouse forget to include the "to" date in the list of places lived on the DS230, that is likely the problem. Since you left it open ended, they can't know for sure where she is now. That might be the problem. I filled up the blanks on the online form completely and had my spouse sign it. I filled in as "from" her month/year of birth and "to" the month/year when I mailed the DS230, since she had only one address her entire life. We had no problems at all.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMissing Document List - DS230
Yep, same happened here. Got that message on the auto-response system on a Friday. I was puzzled what documents were missing. When the I-864EZ had been approved, apparently the DS230 had not caught up yet, since we used the shortcuts. I called NVC the following Monday and learned that everything was fine and the case was completed within a week. The "missing documents" letter actually arrived after the case was completed!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresManila Medical Question
Randy,

All Manila CR-1s will show a midnite appoinment for medical same day as the interview. Ignore that. If you were the agent of choice, you'll receive the Packet 4 shortly. Make a copy of everything and send the original packet to your spouse ASAP. When she receives, send her to St. Luke's early, a month ahead would be good. Or, as frdmrk2 says, call the embassy and have them send the packet to St. Luke's. Your spouse can pick it up there. That will save you the time and expense of express mailing.

Good luck, you're almost there!!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about Lorna's SSN card
Yep, we received SS card about 2 weeks after her arrival. However, we've had quite a lot of trouble with correct spelling of her name, not only with Social Security, but also my bank and my health insurance. We've had to request a new SS card with the correct name and had to visit the local SS office to do that.

She also received her green card about 3 weeks after arrival.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDoes all of this waiting make since??
No one seems to have patience anymore. It is all about self satisfaction now.

o anyway, don't blame immigrations, blame those that went through the system before us and because of their actions you now have all the proceedures in place because ofthem. Of course, as time goes on and more people try to berat the system more procedures and further delays will b built in.

Well, some may choose wanting to be with your loved one self-satisfaction, and maybe it is. However, I don't see what is wrong with wanting to be with the person you are married to and for others it may be their fiance. I don't believe that to be self-satisfaction, what I see it as is what should be normal. And no I don't have patience in wanting to be with my husband however, there is nothing I can do about that at this point.

You are right in saying that alot of this process can be attributed to those who try to beat the system, however sending a fee bill first before sending the paperwork after the receipt of the money seem a complete waste of time. Why not kill two birds with one stone, send the fee bill and the paperwork together, that would shave off a few weeks for sure. Also, and oh by the way, I just found out that they won't be sending the paperwork but will have you download the forms yourself and then you send the paperwork that has the barcode back with the form you downloaded off the internet. So I do blame immigration for this portion of the wait. It's called barcode hostaging :o

I'm taking deep breaths and waiting to exhale over here. Let's just say I am not holding my breath for immigration to change. As you said in your post: " as time goes on and more people try to beat the system more procedures and further delays will be built in"

I hope my case will be complete before more procedures are added so I can get back to living a normal life which does not include waiting for word from immigration.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDoes all of this waiting make since??
:( I know I shouldn't complain and I know there are a number of people who have waited to be with their loved one longer then I have, but despite knowing all of this, I must say I am quite disgusted and depressed by this whole immigration process. I do believe the immigration process is a process to discourage people from marrying people from other countries and thereby stopping people from immigrating to the USA. Although I have read in other posts that the people at the NVC have been helpful, it makes me wonder who the heck were they talking too? I have gotten nothing but vague answers or downright lies. An example, that automatic voice response telling the lie that a fee bill has been mailed and three weeks later after talking to a customer service rep, I get a response that the fee bill was mailed yesterday and not three weeks ago. Or how about the amount of time it takes to process paperwork you overnighted but does not get processed 3 or 4 weeks later. My theory is...half the time this stuff sits on somebody's desk who doesn't give a rat's bottom that people are seperated from one another. Oh yeah and is it asking to much to include a fee bill with the paperwork that you need to fill out to keep the process moving? What is this pay a fee, we send you the paperwork and holding the barcode hostage until they receive the money? It's real simple, if the fee isn't paid, then don't process the paperwork. Oh but then again if the NVC should happen to do their job in a timely manner or equip applicants with the information they need to speed things along then some government workers would be out of a job.

Now I feel much better now that I have gotten that off of my chest!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresConfused about the DS-230

check this out and it will explain how different consulates process with the NVC. Hope this help answer what is an 'Alpha post'.

Department of State Designates New "Alpha" Posts for Immigrant Visa Processing
04/08/2002

April 8, 2002 – On April 5, 2002, the State Department announced that, effective May 1, 2002, several consular posts located in Asia, Australia, the Near East and South America will be added to the list of "alpha" posts for consular processing of immigrant visas. Alpha posts are those for which the State Department's National Visa Center (NVC) undertakes prescreening of immigrant visa applications. With this latest announcement, the State Department continues the trend towards greater involvement of the NVC in immigrant visa processing generally.

Background

In the past, processing of immigrant visa applications was undertaken by the consular posts directly, with consulate staff reviewing applications and supporting documentation, collecting fees, and scheduling and conducting applicant interviews. With the establishment of the National Visa Center in 1994, the State Department began to transfer administrative functions pertaining to immigrant visa applications to the NVC, thus relieving consulates of some of the burdens of visa processing. In September 2000, the State Department designated ten consular posts – called "alpha" posts – to participate in a pilot program that assigned immigrant visa fee processing and application prescreening to the NVC. Since that time, the State Department has repeatedly expanded the list of consulates adhering to alpha procedures. To date, some 40 consulates are designated as alpha posts and participate in some form of prescreening by the NVC. The remaining consulates are designated as "beta" consular posts, for which the NVC has minimal participation in immigrant visa processing.

Currently, there are two levels of alpha prescreening, depending upon the consular post at which the applicant will undergo processing. At standard alpha posts, the NVC distributes the basic immigrant visa application forms in the Instruction Package for Immigrant Visa Applicants (formerly known as "Packet III"). The Center collects and reviews the completed immigrant visa application form (Form DS-230) and the affidavit of support (Form I-864) for completeness, and also collects and processes the relevant application fees. Once the NVC has determined that the forms are complete and the fees have been paid, the applicant's case is forwarded to the consular post, where it is reviewed in depth. The consular post is responsible for scheduling an immigrant visa interview and sending the applicant the remaining application materials, contained in the Appointment Package for Immigrant Visa Applicants (formerly known as "Packet IV"). The applicant brings his or her original supporting documentation – such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, and the like – to the interview. This procedure is currently in place in Bogota, Colombia; Chennai, India; Ciudad Juarez, Mexico; Georgetown, Guyana; Guangzhou, China; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Manila, Philippines; Mumbai, India; New Delhi, India; Port au Prince, Haiti; and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

For the remaining alpha posts, the NVC performs a larger role in the review of immigrant visa cases. After the NVC has forwarded the Instruction Package, the applicant or attorney completes all forms and collects supporting documentation. The fees, forms and original documents are sent to the NVC, which reviews the submission to make sure that the correct documents have been provided. If the NVC determines that the applicant is "documentarily qualified" – i.e., the applicant possesses all of the required supporting documentation – the NVC obtains a visa allocation number, schedules an immigrant visa appointment, and mails the Appointment Package. The NVC then forwards the applicant's file to the consular post. The applicant appears for the interview, where his or her original documentation is returned. This procedure is in place at the following alpha posts: Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire; Accra, Ghana; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Algiers, Algeria; Antananarivo, Madagascar; Cairo, Eqypt; Casablanca, Morocco; Cotonou, Benin; Dakar, Senegal; Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania; Djibouti, Djibouti; Freetown, Sierra Leone; Harare, Zimbabwe; Johannesburg, South Africa; Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo; Lagos, Nigeria; Libreville, Gabon; Lilongwe, Malawi; Lome, Togo; Lusaka, Zambia; Monrovia, Liberia; Montreal, Canada; Nairobi, Kenya; Niamey, Niger; Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; Praia, Cape Verde Islands; Tirana, Albania; Tunis, Tunisia; and Yaounde, Cameroon.

At "beta" posts (comprising all consulates other than alpha posts), the NVC simply sends the Instruction Package to the applicant or agent, instructing him or her to forward the completed forms directly to the consular post for processing. The consulate takes responsibility for all ensuing phases of the application process, including document review, interview scheduling and fee collection.

The New Alpha Posts

Effective May 1, 2002, the following consulates have been designated as alpha posts: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Ankara, Turkey; Amman, Jordan; Asmara, Eritrea; Auckland, New Zealand; Caracas, Venezuela; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Damascus, Syria; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Doha, Qatar; Hong Kong; Islamabad, Pakistan; Jakarta, Indonesia; Jerusalem; Kathmandu, Nepal; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Kuwait, Kuwait; Manama, Bahrain; Montevideo, Uruguay; Muscat, Oman; Naha, Japan; Nicosia, Cyprus; Perth, Australia; Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea; Rangoon, Burma; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Sanaa, Yemen; Seoul, Korea; Singapore, Singapore; Suva, Fiji; Sydney, Australia; Taipei, Taiwan; Tel Aviv, Israel; Tokyo, Japan; Valletta, Malta; and Vientiane, Laos.

It has not yet been determined whether these posts will follow the standard alpha procedures or will subscribe to the NVC's enhanced screening and appointment services.

According to what I just read we are under the new Alpha Posts and that it has not yet been determined which process we will follow. Although my husband is from Kenya he lives and works in Saudi Arabia where he will be given his interview. Also, Riblet posted a link which I have read that had instructions for what country my husband will be interviewing in and it says what is required is a copy of the biographical page of his passport and that part one of the DS-230 be filled out. I will call the NVC to verify this information on tomorrow when they are open and post what I find out. Thanks for the info (F)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresConfused about the DS-230

Unfortunately YES. He will have to fly all the way back to get a police certificate.
We already had a police certificate but it was over one year old and we had to fly back to Canada from Florida just so we could get a new police certificate and mail it in with the DS-230. What a pain in the ####### and what a waste of money. We could have taken it direcxtly to the consulate with us as we have to do that with the medical anyway...But they INSISTED that they MUST get the poilce certificate at the NVC or they will NOT forward the case for interview to Montreal Consulate.

I would not waste time if I were you! I would hurry up in sending him to get his police certificate NOW. You never know what delays there might be inthem issuing it.

The answer to this as far as I can tell is that it depends on what country the beneficiary is from. Some countries (such as Canada) you do have to submit them all... whereas with other countries you submit them at the consulate. Try checking in the regional forums :)

 I've confused myself further. After reading Aussie Wench's shortcuts, she mentioned having the beneficiary fill out the DS-230 while you are waiting for the forms to be generated and once I receive the DS-230 from the NVC then submit the form that has already been filled out by the beneficiary along with the cover letter with the barcode back to the NVC. Am I correct in that my husband should gather all of his documentation i.e. birth certificate, police certificates, marriage certificate etc. and send them to me now, and that all of this information should be sent in with Part I of the DS-230? If so, then I suppose that my husband will need to fly back to his home country to pick up his police certificate so that I can send it in with part I?

I hope my question is clear because at this point I am not quite sure on this portion of the process.

Thanks!

yes, since your consulate is part of the alpha group, you have to submit the police report, birth certificate, marriage certificate, ds 230 part 1, to the NVC. If you have not received them, you should start working on those now..

What do you mean since I am part of the alpha group?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIn Uk Waiting For Visa Interview Date, Found Out My Wife In The Us Is Pregnant!!!

Hi

I am afraid that all you can do at this stage is wait for the interview date, you may be able to e-mail the Embassy and explain that you have just found out your wife is pregnant, it may speed your interview date but do not bank on it. Good luck.

Janice

I agree with you on this. I had a surgery scheduled and I asked NVC about speeding my paperwork up and was told to fax the information (i.e. surgery, reason husband needed to be here early rather then later and a letter from the doctor stating exactly the problem) over to the NVC supervisor and they provided me with a name. They did stipulate that once the fax is received it will take approximately 2 weeks to get back to me with a decision and then I would also have to notify the consulate of the situation and then they would have to approve it from there end as well. At the end of this conversation they said it is no guarantee it will be approved. Luckily for me, my situation cleared up on it's own and if I have to have surgery I might be able to hold out until the summer and I am hoping my hubby will be here by then.

You might be better off waiting, and since your wife is at the beginning of her pregnancy it's not as though she is ready to have the baby anyday unless she is in a situation where she has to be on complete bed rest which some women do .

Good luck! (F)

you can still send in prior editions, I did. I do get a RFE, great! I am ready will give them anything, IMs, emails, wedding pics and all the affidavits they want. It would be nice to have them see all this before the interview.

I'm like you, I sent in my paperwork before this new addition. I didn't send any photos, emails or phone bills. I don't have my husband on my lease because he is not living here in the USA and we don't have a joint bank account either. However, that said, at the time I filled out my I-130 they weren't asking for all of this. I did get a RFE and it wasn't for proof of my marital relationship, what it asked for was my husband's birth certificate. We are now further along in the process meaning I am waiting for my I-864 paperwork to arrive and I just paid my IV fee bill.

We will be prepared for the interview with emails, photos, and affidavits from friends, co-workers and family concerning the knowledge of our marriage and that is about it. Because I can't have him on the lease until he arrives, the bank joint account I don't have him on since he is overseas and he needs to be present to sign on the account from what I understand. That's about it.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow do you cope with the seperation and worry?

Hi there,

This is James Wife, Angie. We started all of this a long time ago it seems. I have been here in the States waiting for James to join me from the UK. We have been apart for nearly 4 months. I came here to set up domicile. It seems I just wait every day for him to get the letter for an interview date.

Apart from the pain of being apart all this time, I also worry that he will not get approved for some reason. I am working part time, and we have over $100,000 in my bank account over here. My husband is well educated and has no criminal record. Can you see any reason we would get denied? I am looking for some reassurance and some tips to get through the seperation. I am finding it very difficult right now. If only we had a date for the interview.

Angie

I wish my timeline looked like yours. :crying: I haven't seen my husband since June. I thought to myself after reading your post what is the difference between your country and mine...Europe I suppose, and the fact that my husband lives and works in Saudi Arabia. Well I certainly can empathize with you concerning the seperation and not knowing whether you will indeed be together when all is said and done. Cheer up, don't let the negative thoughts get you down, think positive. Hopefully, the interview date will come soon. If you start getting depressed just pull up my timeline and be thankful that you are further along in the process then I or many others are  All the best to you (F)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-864 – what to do if I claimed immigrant as dependant in tax returns?

Hi everybody! I have a question about the Affidavit of Support (Form I-864).
I am confusing with the questions in Part 4, Number C. Sponsor's Household Size.
The thing is that I claimed my wife and my daughter as dependents in my tax form.
My wife lived with me in USA and have SSN, my daughter was born abroad an she doesn’t have SSN.
They live abroad now, and I started IR-1/2 process and our petitions I-130 were approved.
But I really don`t know what to do with the questions about household size.

]2. Number of immigrants being sponsored in this affidavit (Include all persons in Part 3. ) - my wife
4. Number of persons who are otherwise dependent on you, as claimed in your tax return for the most recent tax year. - my wife again and my daughter ???? [/color]

I don't know about the SSN, but I do know that the instructions says to count anyone that you claimed on your taxes as a dependent (if you look at 21 e on the instruction sheet it verifies this). Also, the instructions refer to any minor child being claimed (21 d in the instructions). Please remember when you count your dependents you need only to count your wife once. So the count would be your wife, daughter and yourself for a total of 3 people according to what you wrote. Also if you go to the USCIS website and look under forms the instruction sheets are there to help you with filling out the form. I hope this helps (F) :)

Hi there :) I know I've seen people with other advice, but the one that I remember is that you can actually just print off the barcode and glue it on! I know it sounds too simple to be true, but other people have said it works :) I hope the rest of the process goes by quickly. I can't wait until ours is getting close to complete too :) We have everything ready to go.

Riblet,
You are not using James's shortcuts? I remember reading that post as well about cutting and pasting the barcode on the paper. The only problem I have with that is that now that I am getting close to everything being completed I didn't want to take a chance of having anything sent back to me. I thought if I could generate the barcode and put the barcode in place by computer then it would work fine. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked for me yet...this may be an omen to tell me that I just have to sit and wait it out like a lot of other people :( I don't have to like it though (F)

 I am so frustrated, I want to use James's shortcut but can't. When I try to use it from my computer it says I don't have enough memory so I went to the library and I could download the barcode but could not paste it on the form letter. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am still waiting on my I-864 to come from the NVC and they told me they sent it about 3 weeks ago and last week when I called to check on it they told me they just sent it out and it can take 2-4 weeks to reach me(somebody lied to me 3 weeks ago). Also, I just paid my IV fee bill the other day and it would be nice to use James's shortcut if possible for that as well to generate the barcode for the DS-230. If anybody has any suggestions on what to do please let me know because it is going pretty slow now.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresRec'vd my I-864 & DS-230 mailed
I thought I would update everyone about my progress. I finally received the instructions to download my I-864EZ from the NVC. I would like to mention that with the instructions came the barcode of course but there was no tax authorization release form that James's shortcut has a link for. Also, I made a mistake and for some reason overlooked the fact that I was supposed to put my case number on each document that I return back to the NVC. I became ill when I was going over my paperwork and saw that little bit of information that I neglected to do, and of course I had already sent my form back to the NVC. Needless to say I called the NVC and asked them if they are going to send me a RFE on my I-864 or if in fact processing on my paperwork would be delayed because of my oversight. I was told no that it should be fine as long as I returned the barcode sheet. Now, I am hoping and praying that the information the NVC gave me is correct. If anyone out there has had this happen let me know what your outcome was please?

I also asked about my DS-230 and was told it would be mailed out this week and of course the usual line of it should reach me within a few weeks. At this point I am happy to know that things are moving along

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDetailed Review????????????

I posted here a week ago and no one answered me. Am I the only one going through a detailed review on my I130 application? I'm worried, I have no clue what detailed review means and why there is an investigation. My husband is here on the K3!

I thought the USCIS always did a detailed review on any I-130 being filed (meaning a close review of the papers you filed). I really can't say if that is what is meant in your case. Did you call the USCIS to ask them what was meant by the term "detailed review"? I would think that would be a good place to start.

Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting for RFE

Mu husband is the service member (O-2). I do not have a green card but I do have a dependents card which entitles me to all the military benefits.

It took less than 10mins to be given a dependants card and the enlisted girl even gave me a dummy SSN (maybe this is wrong, we haven't had any problems yet) that was needed on the card. Also we are at a base where the guard at the gates scan the cards now. I have never been stopped with my card.

I am sure I am allowed space A travel but I'm concerned that the DoD person checking passports will forget to remove the little green piece of paper or issue me a new one when I return. From my experience some of the DoD personnel and Border Patrol are not that smart or well trained. I don't know how they can deny me entry into the US after getting off a military plane where would I go?!

Hollywood,
Wow, that is the first time I have heard of the issuance of a dummy SSN by base personnel. Since they gave you an ID card with no problem then it is like you say you can travel, but you are right, in that you are taking a chance. Perhaps your husband being an active duty member might be an advantage for you but you are still taking a chance.

If they deny you entry where will you go??? Not out of the airport for sure and more then likely you will be back on the next flight heading back to your departure point. You both have a difficult decision to make. If I remember correctly didn't you say each time you travel it gets more difficult? I know that intuition is not considered scientific and therefore not reliable but I am a big believer in intuition. I believe that if a person feels uneasy about a situation it is a sign to take notice of it and go with your gut instinct. That's my opinion only and of course you have to do what is right for you. I hope all the best for you whatever decision you take (F)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting for RFE

Hey all,

I am still waiting on a RFE as my husband left out his g-325a. We sent out our application to California at the beginning of Nov and have only had 1 NOA since. I am currently in the US right now but my VWP expires early Feb. So we are hoping to receive an RFE before I leave. Is anyone else concerned about CSC's lack of notification?

Also, has anyone had experience with military space A travel? My husband and I think this may be an option of leaving the US and returning again. I have spent 9 out of the past 12 months here in the US. Each time I have entered is a little more difficult than the last. So we are worried the next time I try they will send me home.

I can try to help you with military space A travel. I will need more information though. Who in the marriage is the American military service member. Also, has the spouse been classified with the government as a dependent? Please note that usually in order for any foreign national to have military benefits he or she must be a green card holder. I don't know what your circumstance is from the little information in the email.

Concerning your RFE I received one, and it took about a week and a half once I was notified through the email. It's not very clear to me from your post as to whether you received notification from the USCIS yet or if you know a RFE is coming because you realized your husband's G-325a was not included in the papers you returned. As for USCIS lack of notification, for me it has been up and down, sometimes they respond quickly and sometimes it is the waiting game.

I hope this helps (F)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIV Bill - money order from a non-US Bank

Hi all,

I received the IV Bill today at my UK address, and it says "Please send a cashier's check or money order in US Dollars, drawn on a US Bank, made payable to the department of state with the case number written on the front of the check (do not send cash, a personal or attorney/firm check)".

I was able to pay the I-130 bill for the CSC using an International money order from my UK bank (Barclays), and was wondering if it was possible to do this for this bill? If not, no biggie, I'll just send the forms to Mom-in-law who's happy do send the money order from her bank, and I'll pay her back.

Thanks for any help given!

I am in the USA and I had questions about this same thing myself. I went to the post office to get a MO to pay the IV bill and then I asked the clerk behind the counter if the MO was drawn off of a USA bank and she couldn't give me a firm yes to that answer so I went with a cashier's check which I knew met the requirement. I would have your mother-in-law get the MO for you. Better safe then sorry.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion concerning DS-230
:help: Would anyone happen to know what the meaning of this message left on the NVC voice response concerning our case mean?
"The NVC is awaiting the return of the biographic forms from the petitioner, once this packet is received allow 6 to 8 weeks for the reviewing for all of your documentation and you will be notified of the outcome of the review."

The IV fee bill was recently paid and I am now wondering if they are refering to the return of the DS-230 since those are the only forms left to complete. I was confused by the fact that the voice response said they are awaiting the biographic forms from the PETITIONER. Does the NVC actually mean the beneficiary? Does the beneficiary become the petitioner once you are this far along in the process? Or are they saying they are awaiting the forms from me (the petitioner ) because I am the agent of choice?

I hope I haven't confused anyone with the question and hope that someone can figure this out for me and answer the question. Oh and one more thing does it really take 6 - 8 weeks to process the DS-230? Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230

Hi,

The other thing you want to make sure of is that you send the appropriate documents with the DS230.. depending on which consulate the DS230 will be going, they may require additional paper work to be submited with the DS230.. along with the bar code cover sheet

good luck

You are so right on this one. Our case is pretty much like what you described, we had to send in the barcode and additional paperwork along with part 1 and part 2 of the DS-230 to the NVC.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTo go to the interview or not go?
The DS-230 finally came and I am thinking ahead a bit. I was wondering if it would be good to attend the interview with my husband or not when the time comes? Keep in mind that I don't know for sure if I can be in there with him but I was wondering if it is an advantage to have your spouse there during the interview? Any suggestions, thoughts, etc would be appreciated. Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230 help please
I sent my I-864 to the NVC about a month ago and a couple of weeks ago I received a letter from the NVC saying they were missing the DS-230. My husband sent the DS-230 and they received it on yesterday. I checked the voice recording today and it says they have received the missing information and expect 6-8 weeks for the processing to be complete. Does anyone know if in fact it takes 6-8 weeks for them to review the DS-230 and send the information to the consulate? Does anyone also know how long it takes to get an interview? The thought of having to wait another 2 months is quite depressing, we have already been apart for 8 months. If anyone knows anything pleeeeeeeeeeeeease let me know :crying:

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCase Reviewed... RFEhttp://www.visajourney.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif

According to the VRU at NVC, my case was reviewed this week and additional evidence is being requested. A letter was sent Friday with a list of the documents needed. I will be calling on Monday to find out what documents my case is missing. Does anyone knows if the operator will be able to tell me this information?. I don´t want to wait for their letter in the S N A I L M A I L, ( I still haven´t received the DS-230 package).
I´m assuming my AOS (I-864EZ) has issues with my income tax/employment situation. If this is the case, I have already put in gear plan B, which is to resubmit I-864EZ with a co-sponsor. I hope I´m wrong and get a RFE on my DS-230 instead. I´ll keep you posted.
On the positive side, I feel good about my case been reviewed relatevely fast. I was expecting between two or three weeks for a decision. So, probably my case should´ve been closed last Friday had they not requested for additional evidence. That´s why I need to find ASAP what documents or information they are asking from me.

Any tips, suggestions?

I can only speak from my experience, the automated voice messaging said my case was incomplete (this was in reference to my DS-230), I telephoned the NVC and was told I was missing documentation. My husband did not mail his original birth certificate or a certified copy. Men gotta love them!!! I hope this helps :luv:

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCASE COMPLETE!!!

I have never been superticious, but our case was completed on a Tuesday 13th. I´m a now a believer. Exactly six months after sending I-130.
It was strange how I find out on my case from the NVC. I´ve been calling them every other day for about two weeks to check on our status, and I´ve spent ( as many of you already know) about 10 minutes on average to be assisted by an operator. Well, today it was different. It was 8 am EDT when I called, but instead of being prompted by the recorded voice message, I got a live voice... very rare indeed. And that´s the way my phone crusade with NVC came to a close. Ten more days for the case to arrive at Managua. I inmediately called my wife and woke her up to share the news.
My next update will be after my wife receives Instruction Packet.
